He learns to be a spirit guide helping his son, Matt, live and die through one of the world's worst disasters - the destruction of the World Trade Center. Arming his son with a copy of The Earth Guide Book - the manual for spirit guides - Jonathan works alongside Matt to unravel the universal questions of life and death. This seems to be one of those books that you love or hate...but I'm in the middle! On the plus side I was surprised at how moving I found it at times....I had tears in my eyes when Rowena founds Matt's note. I was really glad that Matt was able to "talk" to his family at the end. On the downside I found some aspects a bit daft (an angel called Doris for some reason struck me as silly!) & sometimes it was a bit preachy. Whether you believe in angels or not, if we all lived our lives by some of the words in the "The Earth Guide Book" the world would be a better place. I liked the quote "Make sure everyone you love knows you love them just in case you don't have time to tell them before you or they die"...& "live today like you might not be here tomorrow" isn't a bad message either. Life is short....

What a fantastic book for someone to read who has lost a family member or close friend in this horrific disaster.Matt's father died many years before 7/11 and his spirit has been looking after and trying to guide his son. The book deals with the days before 7/11 and shows how the spirit guides of Matt and his wife try to veer them away from the twin towers that day. Matt is a broker in the twin towers who works to hard and puts his job before all else. Matt is a broker in the twin towers who works to hard and puts his job before all else. This story goes through the whole disaster from the view of someone in the twin towers, but it is a feel good book - there is a life after death. The spirit existed before its trip to earth and continues on afterwards. This is not a religious book and is certainly not trying to convert anyone - just a guardian angel's point of view.

(1.5 stars) This was not at all what I was expecting. And I know I'm going to be in the minority here, after reading various other reviews of this book. This seemed almost science fiction to me, very new age-ish. I found the Earth Guide Book rather hokey. Actually, I found a lot of things kind of hokey.... I think the premise of the book isn't bad -- I'm sure that people affected by the tragedy of 9/11 do need to find comfort, and if this does it for them, then kudos to the author, but I fear th (1.5 stars) This was not at all what I was expecting. I guess all in all, it's just a little too "out there" for me.

I'm afraid I didn't like this book at all. Well, this isn't the type of book that I usually read or that usually appeals to me, which might explain why I didn't manage to get into it at all and ended up skimming through it.
