I grew up watching the wonderful tales of Snow White, Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella. But there is something very rich about reading the different versions of the princesses. Going to the library I picked out a book called The Worlds Best Fairy Tales. In this book there is a story called The Princess on the Glass Hill. I flipped through the few pages and what snagged my eye was the picture where there is a beautiful princess on the top of a very large and slick glass hill with a prince galloping I grew up watching the wonderful tales of Snow White, Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella. I flipped through the few pages and what snagged my eye was the picture where there is a beautiful princess on the top of a very large and slick glass hill with a prince galloping up it on his nobble steed. How did she get there? Who was this young Prince? What was truly crazy is that this story happens to be much like a Cinderella story but with and interesting twist where the young boy is the one with two older brothers who don’t think him capable of anything but farming. Till one night the two older brothers are shaken with fear and what they were so afraid of happened to be the key so saving the princess on the glass hill. I don’t want to go into too much detail and spoil the ending but the patience and valiance of they youngest farm boy, his fearless manner of approaching danger and his wanting heart is beautifully captured in this story. Bringing back memories of when I would play at the park as a child and be “stuck” on the highest slide waiting for a knight so strong and brave. This fairy tale brings out the valor in the soul. I can only imagine that is exactly what the writer wanted from this story to write in the readers heart the true values of a man. Just like many fairy tales do with morals. Fairy tales awaken the longing hearts of the princesses and the courageous hearts of the princes, drawing out the strengths of both! Reading tale such as these with embedded morals and values are good for the heart and the imagination of the children. This story does a wonderful job at doing just that.
