In these letters, Wilberforce spoke about such practical matters as finances, friends, education, careers, the uncertainty of life, and their relationship with God. The principles he taught ring as true today as they did then. By “looking in” on this correspondence, we can see the kinds of values to instill in our own kids. Not the most riveting read, but amazingly challenging in the way that this 'Abolisher of Slavery in Britain' wrote to his children and encouraged them in their faith. I saw a side of a man that devoted his whole life to abolishing slavery that I did not expect to see. Not unusual to see someone so focused on a goal achieve it at the expense of his family.
