This book can definitely help those recently diagnosed, it has lots of information about the drugs, diets, life style changes and personal experiences. In my opinion the chapters about drugs, especially interferon, were very harsh and may cause some readers and those newly diagnosed to turn away from them all together, which I do not think to be a good choice. The book gave me have a realistic view about different aspects of managing the disease, how new drugs are found and approved, new medicine and clinical trials and life style changes. It also made me to actually start doing something for my self instead of sitting and waiting for something to happen or some drug to have a sudden magical effect.

I really enjoyed reading this book. Dr. Jelinek bases the book on us his own personal experience with MS as well as providing us with an excellent medical resource on this debilitating auto immune disease that strikes so many people of all ages. He gives us a very personal and up close view of that struggle, which motivated him to write this book. He was diagnosed shortly after she died, while completing his medical residency. I am glad he found the courage to include the mind/body aspect of patient care and healing. So much of modern medicine overlooks the patient. It's a controversial subject but it is very important for healing. He also goes into detail about evidenced based research and explains how research is formulated and published. He doesn't leave out the relationship between drug companies and profits, which is critical in our understanding of how treatment regimes are supported and funded. The idea diet plays a large role in preventing MS from progressing is interesting, although it does contradicts some of my own beliefs about the role of fat in our diet. The results of these studies speak for themselves. I would recommend this book for anyone who has MS.

I don’t have MS but was reading because I had/have guillain barre syndrome, which is too rare to have much known about it, and MS is the closest “match” to a better-understood condition. I also know it’s been transformative for others with MS and I appreciate the transparency summary of evidence for how to reduce the risk of relapses.

This book provides great information. My grandmother has MS that's why I decided to read it. Actually, it's possible to improve well-being, it's essential to eat more fatty fish, nuts, and seeds. Also, taking vitamins is important. Except for this, my grandmother takes Tecfidera, read the description here https://www.canadapharmacy.com/produc... This book provides great information. I strongly recommend it to people who are newly diagnosed or have already MS, or to anyone who has a close one with MS. It's evidence-based with a lot of charts, results from studies etc. Very motivating and encouraging. This book is really good for people who know nothing about MS, diet and Yoga... However totally not for me, having Crohns as well makes it more complicated, and already being a Yoga/Mindfulness teacher it was everything I’m trained for.. also a lot of science..

Prof Jelinek has written a very thorough book on both natural and medical recommendations for controlling the progressive disease, multiple sclerosis. He has taken charge, however, and has not faced any further debilitation. The books discusses diet very thoroughly. He was inspired by the MS diet put into place by Dr. Roy Swank. His version, however, is a bit more restricted. He recommends a low-fat, vegan diet that is supplemented with fish. He also says that sunlight (vitamin D) and meditation are key components in overcoming the disease. Besides these methods, Jelinek also touches upon other remedies and his view of them. These include amalgam fillings, bee stings and the disease modifying drugs. Overall, this book is very simple to read and comprehend. There are many statistics given, which help prove his viewpoints. Any person suffering from MS would benefit from adding this to their personal library.

Very interesting and informative read on MS. This I liked and it is great life advice for anyone not just MS people. Feeling motivated to get healthy!!

This should be compulsory reading for anyone newly diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. I have finished reading it from cover to cover for the second time and have dipped into it many times in between. Professor Jelinek makes a well constructed and thoroughly researched case for his ideas that MS is predominantly a 'lifestyle' disease and that a radical overhaul of your lifestyle can make a big difference to its progression and effect on your life. This is a fantastic book! It helped me understand MS and all of my treatment options. There is much that can be done with lifestyle and other choices. I'm looking forward to the new and updated version of this book (Overcoming Multiple Sclerosis: The Evidence-Based 7 Step Recovery Program) when it comes out later this year. A good overview of current conventional and alternative therapies for multiple sclerosis. The author, a physician and MS patient himself, advocates an extreme Vegan diet for control of MS relapses but he also discusses all the options currently available and the research behind them.
