You are drawn in to read and can’t stop this book is that good. When you are a police officer life is seen in only the black and white that is worn with straight lines drawn and rules followed. Very little mystic is involved or faith for that matter. But when you step out of the box to see the full color palate the one color that stands out is gray and even that can wash out into a White Witch. Willow Tarata is such a woman that colors the entire world with her beauty and the magic she creates. As You are drawn in to read and can’t stop this book is that good. But when you step out of the box to see the full color palate the one color that stands out is gray and even that can wash out into a White Witch. Willow Tarata is such a woman that colors the entire world with her beauty and the magic she creates. As a Guardian she has known that it is her duty to protect The Book of Wood part of the Scrolls of Destiny and she takes this job seriously as the parchment controls destinies and impact lives. What Willow also knows is the Bad Man is coming to get her and has been in pursuit she he murdered her mother. Willow does not know who he is or why he wants to harm her but everything in her life has surrounded staying one step ahead of him. She has done a good job of it until the Bad Man sets her up for one murder after another and while on the run she stumbles and falls right into the arms of Homicide Detective Rick Ramirez. Rick is an all business police officer for some reason has decided to use a new interrogation method and he intends to kiss the truth right out of Willow. He doesn’t know why he is protecting her or even why he believes she is innocent but it is all physical not mystical that is drawing him to her, or is it? Things go from complicated to intense with a side order of high drama as Willow and Rick become more entangled emotionally and physically. Willow and Rick call in friends, co-workers and even a few potential criminals to help them solve the crimes, figure out who the Bad Man is and protect the scrolls. Rick never thought despite his grandmother’s predictions to the contrary that he could trust his emotions to run an investigation but who can argue with your grandma they always know best. This book continues the series fresh, interesting and with a mystery that is as creepy as it is scary. The characters are fun, diverse and just sassy enough to make you wish you knew them so you could watch this interaction play out in real life. You don’t need to read them in order but I always feel you are missing some piece that helps everything make sense if you don’t so buy all three.

4.5 stars - Tempted by Fate the third book in Kate Perry's Guardian series was mind candy, not a story that's going to stick with me forever, but it was really enjoyable while I was gobbling it down. Willow - the Guardian of the mystical scroll of wood and endowed with all the powers that brings - is closing in on the man she has sought for years, the 'bad man' who murdered her mother. But even as she seems close to finally gaining her revenge, the man throws obstacles in her way - or rather dead bodies. As a suspect in the murders, the mysterious blond haired beauty is now on Homicide Detective Ricardo Ramirez's radar, and suddenly Rick and his black and white wordview is going to have to make room for shades of gray - because the even though Willow is not as tough as she plays it with Rick, she's definitely no angel. I really liked both of the leads. The by-the-book Rick who has appeared throughout the series, now takes over as leading man. It is interesting to see how Rick deviates from the straight and narrow and how his ethics are tested by the woman he should arrest, but who he can't seem to resist. And the fascination is mutual for Willow even though her attraction to Rick threatens her well being as well as offering a very real potential of a life in prison. Rick and Willow have great chemistry together and 'who they are' means that they both seem so wrong for each other, so it is satisfying to watch them try to unsuccessfully to fight their visceral attraction to each other. Even though the story would work pretty well as a stand-alone it was fun to see the other Guardians (and significant others) from the previous books in supporting roles, and I also really like several of the new side characters as well - Rick's wise and somewhat magical grandmother is great as is Willow's tech savvy business partner. So if you are looking for a steamy read with a hot cop falling for a bad girl - who is understatedly more kick butt than many a urban fantasy leading lady, and in no way as bad as she pretends to be - Tempted by Fate may appeal to you too.

I really enjoy the concept behind the Guardians in this series, each controlling an element as dictated in ancient Chinese scrolls that have been hidden away for centuries to keep their powers out of the wrong hands. This time it’s the Guardian of the Book of Wood who is the recipient of Ms. Perry’s awesome imagination. Willow has been after the Bad Man for twenty years, ever since he murdered her mother. They’ve played cat and mouse with each other over the years and Willow is ready to end the game. But the Bad Man is also stepping up his part. Trying to frame Willow for murder is his latest scheme. Using her powers, she’s also staying a step ahead of Detective Ricardo Ramirez, who’s investigating the murders. Though he’s a practical man, having been raised by his grandmother, who has a few powers of her own, has given Ramirez a different perspective on what he experiences when near Willow. It doesn’t, however, help with the lust that runs through him when he interacts with the woman. He doesn’t need any help, though. Ramirez is all man, as Willow finds out. It takes a bit for Willow to open up to trust Ramirez. Her mother had warned not to trust anyone, due to her experience with the Bad Man. But Willow reacts to Ramirez in the same he reacts to her. They’re cautious around each other, but when they share a few initial kisses, you can’t help but know the pages will smolder and burn in your hands when these two get around to making love. This Bad Man is one of those truly evil villains you just love to hate. Cold and calculating, all he wants is power. He’ll do anything to get it, as we see early on in the story, but we hope he might have a modicum of decency when it comes to Willow. I like the conflict Ramirez has to go through - arrest Willow or trust her. He’s a by-the-book, black-and-white man and Willow is all shades of gray. Willow has to decide what to do with her trust issues too, of course. When they meet in the middle, so to speak, and team up with previous Guardians and their mates, it’s just a matter of time before the Bad Man goes down. Secrets have to be revealed, however, and hearts and minds have to deal with the fallout. This is turning out to be quite a fascinating series by Ms. Perry. The Guardians know one another just by being near each other, their powers reaching out, identifying who each is. And when the end comes in the series, it’s going to be awesome. All of the Guardians are being herded to San Francisco for a reason. Now we just have to be patient to find out what that reason is.

Willow Tarata is one of the Guardians over the mystical Scrolls of Destiny, complete with the powers to do so. Though she hunts those that prey on the weak and vulnerable, she trusts no one, as her sordid past had never allowed her to take that step. Her whole life she's been driven by one goal-- to find the man who murdered her mother and make him pay. But three bizarre murders have brought Inspector Rick Ramirez to her door, and worse yet, he thinks she's involved. And someone wants her powers, someone willing to do anything to gain them. Now San Francisco's hottest detective and a determined Guardian must work together to protect one another from a relentless evil capable of claiming unimaginable powers and killing them all. But believing in each other and trusting each other's instincts may be the toughest challenge yet, especially when a heated passion threatens their professional cool and makes for some interesting setbacks. I was privileged to review the first two books in this "Guardians of Destiny" series, "Marked by Passion" and "Chosen by Desire." The first book was told in first-person, the second in third-person, and this book followed suit in third-person. These books gained momentum and steam, making this third book the best of them all. I'm not sure if there are more books coming, but judging by the closure this book gave, I'd say not. Readers who have followed this series will be happy to see Rhys, Gabe, Carrie, and Max from previous books. And did I mention how exciting it is that detective Rick Ramirez is the hero for this book? I adored him in the other books. Though listed as a paranormal romance, this series also has an urban fantasy edge to it. I love Kate Perry's writing style. Sexy humor, well-crafted characters, and fast-paced plots make for a thoroughly enjoyable read. Favorite moment: Rick reading Willow the Miranda rights while trying not to kiss her. Hot! Recommended! When the Bad Man murdered her mother 20 years ago-the heroine vowed to get her revenge in away way she could. This goal has made her an introverted loner who never trusts anyone and relies on her ability to fake emotions to avoid human contact. Her life has been hard-once an assassin killing the scumbags of the world-the heroine has finally quit that job to zone in on her main target. But he's zoning in on her as well. There she meets the hero. He's a black and white, right or wrong detective with just slightly more humor than the heroine though not by much. In fact they are strikingly similar in personality. They have limited people skills and live their lives separate from everyone around them. The hero is shocked by his reaction to the heroine. He finds himself breaking the rules he's vowed to uphold. He can't stop himself from being drawn to the strong femme fatale female with the legs of a goddess. He kisses her at every meeting, he takes her home to meet his grandmother. He harbors a fugitive, the woman his fellow cops are looking for in connection to a murder. He steals her mothers flute from evidence just to make her happy. But he never lost his sense of right and wrong. He has a very hard time coming to terms with her previous employment and though he falls in love with her, he is disgusted and disappointment over the secrets she still keeps from him. I enjoyed this book because I really loved both the hero and heroine. Though I felt that they fell in love far too fast and that the hero made such a sharp turn from his no nonsense direction to suddenly groping the chick he KNOWS is involved in murder. It was rather unbelievable. And the heroine is played up to be this evil creature as every states that she's not a dark as she think she is. But I didn't see it. You could so tell that she's putting on an act when she gets into the sassy seductress mode and just because she killed people for a living didn't make her evil by any means. Hey, she killed bad people. I loved her argument with the hero about how it makes it ok for him to kill because he has a badge. It was valid point. I though this was a nice book. A little slow at times but I really liked the characters individually as well as their chemistry together.

This book was an impulse purchase, having not read the author before and not reading any reviews of her books. It turned out to be a very good purchase! I enjoyed it so much that despite just buying two books I've been waiting months for, I kept reading this one. I was late getting dressed today 'cause I was so busy reading. I haven't done the housework I had planned because I was too busy reading. Gotta love when that happens. I adored the heroine in this book. Willow is one tough cookie. She's had to be since her mother was murdered when she was only ten. As soon as she was old enough, she made it her life's goal to track down and wreck vengeance on the man who killed her mother even though Willow only knows him as The Bad Man. After tracking him for years, she finally hopes to corner him in San Francisco, even as she is aware that The Bad Man has probably lured her there. She is on her way to a meet with a private detective she hired when she comes across two dead bodies, the detectives and another man. Also at the scene is a police Inspector, Rick Ramirez. He senses Willow's presence, but because she has some pretty awesome superpowers, he's unable to find her; either that night or at other times when she seems to be at the same scene as other crimes. He suspects her, but doesn't really want to as their attraction to each other is overwhelming. I really enjoyed Rick's character too. He's a rules kind of guy. He lives buy the book and his world is one of black and white until he's confronted by Willow who is all kinds of gray. Their opposite personalities really made for some great and spicy scenes between them. It was rather fun watching Rick having his carefully ordered world rocked. The secondary characters were also very interesting - from his rather mysterious herself grandmother, to Morgan, Willow's computer geek best friend and partner. This is the third book in a series about Guardians, a select group of people who have inherited supernatural powers, but even though I haven't read the first two, it was no problem following this story at all.

This was a really good story. I'd kind of gotten burn out on historical romance so I'd left romance alone altogether for a little while. I used the model on the cover as a basis for what Ramirez looked like, and he is very nice :-) But my favorite character was Morgan and Lita was a close second. But Morgan is a computer genius. While I'm far from a computer genius I am a bit of a nerd so I was able to connect with her. She also plays as Willow's better judgment, as Willow doesn't always use her own good judgment... And Lita was such a sweet character. She was so knowing (beyond just the knowing the comes with being a grandmother) and was able to see what the future was going to hold for Ramirez and Willow. I haven't read the first two in this series and I didn't feel lost in this one. While I do want to go back and read the first two I didn't feel like I was missing a piece of the puzzle. The story itself was a good one. Willow, a guardian of the wood scroll, is trying to find the bad man who killed her mother when she was a young girl. The search has lead her to San Fransisco where she meets Ramirez. The chemistry between them is great, even though they both try to fight it. I liked the story and I loved the characters. I really do want to get the first two in the series and get the background of the guardians and then I want to see where the next book is going to go, as this one set the stage for something really big. I can't wait to see what it is! A review copy of this book was provided by Hachette Book Group.

Two wounded hearts are brought together is such a way as to seem real. This is a definite keeper. I will be impatiently waiting for the next installment in this series. These stories keep getting better and better.

How exactly did he think to get her to use her power for his benefit if he captured her? She's pretty much alone, so it's not like he could have blackmailed her into helping him by torturing a friend, etc. I also didn't like the "telling instead of showing" of how alone and angst-ridden the heroine felt. Basically, I think I just didn't like the heroine - just never really connected with her. I didn't feel that the heroine deserved the hero. The relationship felt lopsided to me.

By receiving a complimentary copy and a giveaway opportunity, it in no way obligates me to write a good or bad review. I am an honest reviewer and my reviews are based on my own opinion and only written by me.*

I have been waiting for a book like this! It has that urban fantasy/paranormal feel mixed with suspense and romance. This one is really a page turner. I know that is a giant cliche, but I stayed up late just to finish this one and even after taking a muscle relaxant for my back. I just couldn't go to sleep without finding out the ending. Willow is such a kick ass character and if you are looking for someone like Jaz Parks (Jennifer Rardin), she will carry you between those books. I have been waiting for a book like this! I love stories with magical realism. I love stories with groups of friends or characters who are connected because you know there are probably other stories with the same group. I love hunky heroes and smart, strong heroines who have to overcome big hurdles (both external and internal) to find their way together. And I love love stories. I love this book! I haven't read the others in the series, but they're going in my TBR pile now. I love stories with magical realism. Kate has done it once again! I was in a Guardian trance and couldn't put this book down. I love that Willow is a do-it-yourself woman who can stand on her own two feet but also knows how important it can be to allow someone to have your back. Tempted by Fate is every romance lovers dream book. It's fun, fresh and most of all, it's hot! Kate has done it once again! I was in a Guardian trance and couldn't put this book down. This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. I really enjoyed this series. At the end of book 3, a Messiah/Chosen One was mentioned to bring all the Guardians together. My question is, when is the 4th book coming out so we can find out what happens next??

I really liked this book. I'm not a big reader of romance, but the plot won me over. I enjoyed Willow's story, and Rick's grandmother the most! I really liked the plot about the scrolls, so I will defiantly be seeking more books written by Kate Perry! I really liked this book. I'm not a big reader of romance, but the plot won me over. Awesome read....was surprised to find out that this book is the end of the series. I would have thought there be one more left but who knows?

It was Ok. I didn't love Willow. Felt a bit disconnected to her. I liked aspects, and the world was cool. I might find the other books to read It was Ok. I didn't love Willow. Felt a bit disconnected to her. I liked aspects, and the world was cool. I might find the other books to read
