This was a great book full of in-depth information that really is not available elsewhere. This book isn't a 101 on how to sew costumes or an overview of different looks for various time periods, but rather a 101 class on the business and professional side of a costume department. It goes into the nuts and bolts of how to setup your department, how to find the clothes you need, how to prep, how to work with the other crew and navigate politics, how to issue and keep track of your costumes, what This was a great book full of in-depth information that really is not available elsewhere. It goes into the nuts and bolts of how to setup your department, how to find the clothes you need, how to prep, how to work with the other crew and navigate politics, how to issue and keep track of your costumes, what you'll need to do daily to maintain your department, and how to wrap and return everything as well. There are also fun bits of information on things like how to age costumes appropriately. While some of the information was more than I'd ever need while working on much smaller indie features and commercial productions, it was really interesting to find out just how much work goes into the costume department that most people never think about. I learned plenty of useful information I am taking to heart and using on my much smaller productions but know I can come back to this book for bigger ones if I need it.

I really enjoyed getting a look at the process of costuming a film production (quite different from stage shows). It's a well-written and clear picture of what goes into the process and the responsibilities of the costume director.
