Even though I didn’t read the first book, Werewolves Be Damned, I had no problem following the plot and was sucked in right from the start! Blurb… In Stacey Kennedy’s steamy paranormal romance novel, a rookie guardian sworn to combat the undead risks life and love in a world of violence, witchcraft, and seduction. Nexi Jones has lost her family, she’s been stripped of her guardian duties, and she’s still learning the ins and outs of white magic. At least she has Kyden, the smoldering hot elite guardian who’s been there for her every step of the way. But just as Nexi completes her training, tragedy strikes the Otherworld when a fellow guardian is murdered by a group of rogue vampires. Ready or not, she and Kyden trek into the Earthworld to hunt down a killer—and Nexi alone will be put to the ultimate test. Although Kyden knows that Nexi must fight her own battles, his guardian instincts are raging as he struggles to keep her close. The ruthlessness of these vampires is like nothing he’s ever seen. And at their helm is the Black Witch Astoria, a demon with one burning desire: to shed Nexi’s blood in the name of vengeance. What troubles Kyden even more, though, is the warlock who covets Nexi’s heart. Let the devil do his worst . . . all Kyden can do is love and protect Nexi until his last breath. My thoughts… Anyone who knows me knows that the Fantasy genre isn’t one of my favorites, but these books are more than just Fantasy. Yes, there’s magic. Yes, there are witches. But there are also vampires, werewolves, guardians, territories, councils… and all of these combined make this an amazing Paranormal Romance series. Witches Be Burned picks up 4 months after Werewolves Be Damned ends, and we’re given a prologue which tells about the important things that transpired in WBD, and I'm glad for that because this is a complex world. With the different beings fighting for peace, there’s never a dull moment, and the ‘Good vs. Evil’ power-struggle kept me on the edge of my seat. To say the universe Ms. Kennedy has created is exciting and unique would be putting it mildly. The Magic and Mayhem world is filled with page turning intrigue. There’s also a fantastic supporting cast of characters, and a hero and heroine who are made for each other. Nexi is a strong leading lady and Kyden is an alpha male who loves her enough to let her be who she’s meant to be - though he often reminds her that he’s still the boss - and she loves him enough to let him go on believing it. And their sexual chemistry? Yeah, it burns hot and wild! See? A perfect match! The bottom line… To the point… If you’re like me and not a huge fantasy fan, you really ought to give this series a go. I’m so excited to have read this story, and am looking forward to finding out what’s to come for Nexi and Kyden! My thanks to Random House Publishing Group - Loveswept for providing me with a copy of this book. In appreciation I’m giving them an honest review!

The imagination used throughout this read was spectacular. The world building and the characters made it hard for me to put down. In this read we had guardians, witches, vampires and werewolves all trying to keep piece throughout the worlds. But something evil has taken place and two guardians have been killed. The race is on to find the evil culprit’s and stop the murders that have taken place. The heroine Nexi was a kick-ass guardian who also has the ability of magic. She was small but mighty and would run head first into danger to protect a loved one. Her character was wonderfully portrayed and she was my favorite character of this book. Kyden, the hero was also a guardian. He was mighty with his sword strapped to his back and would stop at nothing to keep Nexi safe. Another favorite character for me was Nexi’s familiar Willow. Willow was a black cat with an orange tipped tail. Willow could be quite testy at times leaving me chuckling with the things she said and done. I especially liked when Willow was in the heat of action, she turned into a large panther like creature who just tore through the bad guys. There were many of secondary characters that bound together to keep evil at bay. Every one of them added so much to my overall enjoyment of this read. The action scenes were very well done, I could easily envision these scenes as they played out. They were a bit violent with heads being torn off and blood flying every which way. I have to say that I LOVED every bloody moment. In the end, good wins over evil but I can easily see there being a book three in the future. Special note, This is book two in a series, I have not read book one but I read this easily as a standalone. *ARC kindly provide by Random House Publishing Group – Loveswept via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.*

That said, Stacey Kennedy’s got the power to create a magical tale of intrigue, danger and the eternal battle of good vs evil. Yet, there is more in her black hat and she whips out some heated romantic tension that causes her cauldron of creativity to boil and steam! Nexi’s family is gone, she has lost her guardian duty privileges and her mastery of white magic is still shaky. When the murder of a guardian by vampires is committed, she and her mentor/hot guardian/heartthrob are sent to the Earthworld to find the killers, who are brutal, ruthless and vile in their acts of depravity. Is it true their leader is a black witch bent on ending Nexi’s life for revenge? Who is the warlock who has an attraction to Nexi? What is her reaction to him? Will it threaten the relationship forged between Kyden and Nexi? Nexi will be called upon to go beyond what she thinks is possible, is it love that will stand as her ally and inner strength? Witches Be Burned by Stacey Kennedy is a wonderful showcase of her thoughts, ideas and imagination as supernatural creatures are practically coming out of the walls to battle on either the side of good or the side of evil. Will this be the time that ends the constant warring? Nonstop from start to finish, there is high voltage tension and intrigue. Incredible scenes are built and amazing characters play off against the hero and heroine, two equally strong people who are capable of letting go when necessary and trust in each other and their (in Nexi’s case) potential powers. Think you have the stamina for all that happens? If so, you are going to be enthralled from page one. I received an ARC edition from Loveswept in exchange for my honest review. In this book we catch up with characters previously introduced in Werewolves Be Damned which was the first book in Ms Kennedy's Magic and Mayhem series. I've previously read the authors more erotic Club Sin series so was very pleased to discover a paranormal series by this author . The journey Nexi and Kyden take began in the previous book and the focus is mainly on Nexi and her mixed heritage. She is now part of the Guardians and as a witch who was raised by humans still has a lot to learn. The trouble is Kyden is just so darned protective and refuses to see just what Nexi is really capable of. When fellow Guardans start getting slaughtered by rogue vampires it's time to get real but realising Kydens ex might be involved leads Nexi and Kyden into a right royal pickle! Add in a powerful Black Witch who keeps turning up and then of course a mysterious Warlock and life's about to get very interesting indeed oh and don't forget Nexi has a new cat ! Yes life as a Guardian is far from dull! Well if you enjoy steamy stories about Immortals then this series might just be for you. There's quite a large list of supporting characters but the author does a fine job of explaining how they all fit in. Obviously as part of a series the world building continues and I particularly enjoyed learning more about the Vampire courts and the politics within. There is also a huge reveal about the Underworld that will surely be continued in the next book. I enjoy the chase when I read romance and kind of missed that here. The relationship between Kyden and Nexi began in the last book and they do have chemistry but for this reader this book lacked a little something. It's well written, has great pace and an interesting plot plus of course the Underworld tease . I guess if you enjoy reading about Witches, magic and all manner of mayhem then this will be a book to capture your attention. I loved the cover , chuckled at the cat and was surprised by the twists so I am intrigued to find out what just might happen next. I was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review

First off, I really enjoyed the fact the author thought to add a character guide which described who was who and who they were with. Very nice touch. This is definitely one of those books that has a deeper focus on the story and getting it right. With that being said, I did have trouble with the romance in this book. I just felt like it didn't completely work for me. Kyden and Nexi's relationship felt unequal in a lot of ways. It was a bit to me like Kyden was the giver and the protector while Nexi just kinda bobbed along with him. I didn't feel that passion. There are also a few paragraphs that I just had to skip because they were just too much. I didn't feel like it should have taken that much time to say something. Altogether, I think if you read this as more of a fantasy with a dash of romance your gonna like it. If your reading it with the sole expectation of getting a romance, you may possibly be a tad disappointed. However, I'd still recommend it because I did like the general story and the ideas tossed around in it. ARC provided by the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I didn't love it quite as much as Werewolves Be Damned, but it was utterly captivating nonetheless. Having read these before they were re-released, I was very excited to see what Stacey did with the rewrites. I think things turned out beautifully, and I am so excited that new readers get a chance to enjoy her PNR. Still learning about her birthright, Nexi is coming to terms with her new life and her new relationship with the ever-sexy Kyden. Being a Guardian's mate isn't easy, however, since Kyden's protective instincts are off the chart and she's finding it a bit difficult to do her job. When another rash of murders happens in the human realm, Nexi is thrown into the world of the vampires once again as she investigates, as well as the darker side of her witch heritage. Oh, and did I mention that she finally discovers that the Underworld exists, meets someone who would desperately love to lure her away from her job and her love, and gets a new, er, um, pet. Definitely not a dull time for Nexi. :) If you like sexy, action-packed stories, Stacey knows how to do them right. While Witches Be Burned is the second of the series, it stands well on its own, though I would suggest reading from Werewolves Be Damned to get the best grasp of the world building and cast of characters. There are some amazing ones outside of Nexi and Kyden and you don't want to miss out. Not to mention, WBD was an incredible read! If you like a little mayhem with your magic and romance, then I highly suggest Witches Be Burned and the entire Magic & Mayhem series!

The general plot is kind of like a police procedural amped up with vampires, witches, and shifters as the potential bad guys. I enjoyed the political maneuverings they had to do in interacting with the vampires who are supposedly at the center of the murders. Unfortunately I found myself checking to see how many pages I had left to read as they plot seemed to just hand around for a bit before any action happened. Kyden and Nexie are already an established couple although they are working through their own personal boundaries aka Kyden being cool with Nexie going out to fight bad guys. Their relationship is sweet and they work well together. I was a bit annoyed at Kyden's overprotectiveness at every instance of possible danger to Nexie's life but it's understandable and he tended to back off and compromise with Nexie pretty easily which I liked. WITCHES BE BURNED is a pretty satisfying, suspenseful paranormal romance. I enjoyed the ways magic is used in this world and how the worldbuilding is set up. I admire any author who can create such a vast and intricate world of magic and mayhem.

I loved learning about the characters, their powers, their weaknesses and their love. I also have a renewed faith in third-person POV. My interest was piqued from the very first page, and even if I felt confused as to who was whom at first, it didn’t take long to catch on and fall in love with the worlds Kennedy depicts in her stories. Kyden and Nexi are the perfect opposites. And yet, they are so much the same…I can’t wait to see how their relationship evolves or dissolves…because whoa… Magnus. That’s all I’m going to say about that. The fighting, the lovemaking, the connections…I loved them all. “Protect your soul.” I cannot wait to see what happens in the next book…and I may just go back and read book one to see how everything started. **4 Untapped Power, Stars**

Luckily, Ms. Kennedy does a great job of reminding readers about the key events needed to understand and enjoy Witches Be Burned. I feel that a reader could easily pick up the book without having read the first one. Nexi, who grew up not knowing about supernatural beings, is both a witch and a guardian, making her unique and coveted among the supernaturals. In the previous book, Nexi was almost destroyed by a vampire who wanted to drain her of her blood and take her powers. And although new to her powers, Nexi was able to not only kill him, but destroy him using some amazing powers. Fast forward three months, and we learn that her insta-mate, fellow guardian Kyden, is being a bit over protective and trying to keep Nexi out of harm’s way. However, when some of their own are ruthlessly murdered, nothing will stop Nexi from joining those who seek vengeance. Witches Be Burned is a cross between a paranormal romance and urban fantasy. The story is shared from the alternating POVs of both Nexi and Kyden. Although the pair are a couple from the start of the book, there is a lot of page time spent focused on the couple’s relationship. It isn’t until the last quarter or so of the book that I feel the story shifts more to the action than the romance. And while their chemistry is off the charts, I found that both characters annoyed me too much at times. Nexi is fairly new to the supernatural world, and I have to take that with a grain of salt. She’s very powerful and seems to have her act together, but she’s also naive and headstrong, making her seem immature at times, especially at the front end of the book. I felt that she didn’t take her role as a guardian seriously and whined when she couldn’t get her way. This also comes across in her jealousy - again, it feels immature how she reacts, putting her personal wants before her role as guardian. Yet by the end of the story, I feel that she did a better job standing up for herself without coming across as childish. Kyden is an alpha male, but his “over protectiveness” is too much and comes across like he’s not even really seeing Nexi for who she is. The fact that he constantly has to remind himself that she’s powerful and strong makes me think he doesn’t truly think of Nexi as an equal. He spends too much time reminding himself that she can handle “life," and the rest of the time he's trying to order her around. I just don't feel the love. The primary story is broken into chunks and fit around the interactions between Kyden and Nexi. First, there is the mystery of why Earthworld vampires are joining together and murdering guardians. I was intrigued, and although I wasn’t pleased with the ultimate answer as to why, I found the story interesting. Then there is the peculiar man that Nexi sees in the Otherworld gardens. I have mixed feelings and am a bit apprehensive about his potential role in future books. I will reserve judgment for now, but I am happy that Ms. Kennedy didn’t take the book to places that would have left readers with a “cliffhanger” ending. Unfortunately, for the bulk of the book, I found that there was just too much going on, and it didn’t seem to come together in a smooth and succinct story. (until nearly the end). Additionally, the book has a conflicting feel to it which makes it come across choppy when maybe it really isn't. On one hand, it's hitting a lot of the PNR stereotypes, especially with respect to the H/H and romance. But on the other hand, the book is trying to carve out its own unique mythology within the hard PNR stereotypes. Unfortunately, this clash isn’t always successful and the results feel silly at times (like a vampire “saving” someone by licking her wounds in battle - yuck!) Overall, I liked the story behind Witches Be Burned and feel that there is promise with the direction the story seems to be heading. And while I feel both Kyden and Nexi experienced positive character development and growth by the end of the book, I didn’t really like them together for much of the story. I’m hoping that each will not slide backwards in the next book, but rather act like adults and work on their issues so they can move forward. My Rating: C+ Liked It, but I had issues Review copy provided by NetGalley

My hopes for this sequel were very high following Werewolves Be Damned. I am a big fan of Stacey Kennedy's writing, world building, and strong characters. And, while I enjoyed Witches Be Burned , I felt Kayden's constant struggle over wanting to keep Nexi safe and knowing he has to let her fight her own battles took away from the story. It felt like every other paragraph he was battling against the desire to sequester her away forever. The mysterious warlock and Nexi's growing abilities left me wondering about what's to come in book 3, Warlocks Be Hexed. There is a plethora of supernatural creatures and the author kindly added a character guide which helped me keep everyone's roles and powers straight. I enjoy this type of paranormal romance/Urban Fantasy because it's not silly, but it's not super dark either. It's fun to escape into another realm for awhile and cheer for the good guys as they battle against the bad guys. The characters were well defined, but left plenty of room to grow if they appear in future installments. I think Nexi will settle some now, and Kyden might relax a little, but they still have some things to work out. It will be interesting to seem what Ms, Kennedy has in store for us with the next book in the series. 4 stars

I love fun added with an exciting adventure and magic on top of that, needless to say I really enjoyed this book, This book is more about Nexi learning who to control and make her element work and she finds some new surprise’s that she can do that no one else can. So expect the first half of the book to be about her learning and growing into her powers. Then things change when an evil comes in. As Nexi is battling the evil witch Astoria she learns someone else wants her that is Magus the supreme leader of the underworld. Magus wants her to take the roll of the Siren within his guard. Can Nexi pass up so much power with this offer? You have to read and see;) There is one added roll in here that I just loved. Her name is Briar. She helps Nexi control her fire and when Nexi accidentally sets Briar on fire, I didn’t think I would ever stop laughing, I have never read a scene like it before…. Now with all the fun, I found just as much action, so I got enough fun and fighting to make everything equal out. The only problem I have is that Nexi is full of power, its like she is too perfect and for some reason it just wasn’t settling in with me.

This is A Magic & Mayhem novel and is the second book in this series. I haven’t read the first book, but I had no trouble catching up. Nexi is fighting Kyden’s need to protect her while growing into the role of guardian. They are both strong characters and it was fascinating to see the push-pull within their relationship. Nexi is determined to undertake all her guardian duties even if this places her in danger. Kyden struggles with the thought of losing Nexi and his desire to keep her safe. The cast of characters is quite large, but we spend most of our time with Nexi and Kyden. I found the start a little slow, but the plot soon unfolds at a fast rate while the Guardians attempt to discover what or who is behind the influx of vampires. The clues come together and Nexi must face danger and temptation in order to beat the villain. The love scenes between Nexi and Kyden are hot and spicy. A few of the story threads are left unanswered, and I presume they will come to a conclusion in the next book in the series. This is the perfect story for a paranormal romance lover who enjoys a fast-paced plot full of danger and excitement. I enjoyed this story. 4 stars Copy received from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I have not read the first book of the series Werewolves Be Damned, which was one of the reasons why it took me so long to finally pick Witches Be Burned up. Another reason was that I’m not a big fan of books that include witches. Never been, never will. That said I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Witches Be Burned was entertaining and the action scenes were pretty vivid. Also I really liked the little prologue in the beginning, without it I would probably have been a lot more lost. It helped to give me a grip of what happened in the previous book. Though I liked the action and the way Witches Be Burned was written, it couldn’t completely convince me. Why you ask? Well, Kayden and Nexi had no chemistry. I liked both of them individual, but they didn’t convince me of their love for each other. Also I expected there to be a bit more romance, but this book was more action with only a touch romance. The end fight was quite interesting though and I would like to read the next book in the series. Also don’t be fooled like I was, Witches Be Burned can be read as a stand-alone without any problems. Had I known that, I would have read this book a long time ago. Recommened to urban fantasy lovers, that don’t want an in-debth love story. Rating: 3,5 stars For more review, check out Bookgatherer.

I received this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review Though this is the second book of the series, I hadn't read the first and had no problem jumping right into the story (there's an informative prologue at the beginning explaining book one). The best part of the novel was the supernatural world created by Ms. Kennedy-- I loved the myriad of supernatural creatures. It made for a complex world that really pulled me in. I liked the characters, not just the main characters, but all of the interesting secondary characters that made this an intriguing read. Down side-- I thought the story started a tad slow, my mind wandered a few times. But about a third of the way through things picked up, leading to lots of action and suspense. I recommend this title to ages 18+ due to the graphic nature of some steamy love scenes. Main characters Nexi and Kyden were both strong, kickass characters with some strong chemistry between them-- just what I like in an urban fantasy. If you like paranormal romance/urban fantasy, Witches Be Burned is definitely one to check out.

I gave it 3.5 stars I liked both Nexi and Kyden from the beginning of WEREWOLVES BE DAMNED and their relationship being so strong at the end of the book made me excited to see where their relationship would go next. After finishing WITCHES BE BURNED I'm just not sure what I feel. I enjoyed the story, but I'm not to crazy about the introduction of another possible love interest for Nexi. I see a lot of struggle in her future and I am hoping that she is able to pull herself through it. I've read quite a few books from Stacey Kennedy. Actually she had me as a fan after I read Supernaturally Kissed (LOVED that story!). I liked the story line and there was some awesome action, and hot love scenes, but I found my self rushing through the book as it did tend to drag a little at times. I loved Kyden's character but Nexi seemed to annoy me a little, she wasn't a very strong character at all. Sorry, I was hoping for more. It was so wonderful to return to Nexi and Kydon. While we thought that the course of true love was running smoothly and Nexi and Kydon were off having their HEA.. I know I secretly hoped for a little more mayhem and a little less magic. That way we get to see this awesome kick ass couple again. And Stacey being the wonderful author that she is, delivered. Nexi has been focusing more on her witches powers and less on her guardian ones. She is after all half of each, she has become a spectacular guardian, now it's time she learned how to focus her powers. This should be a time of learning for her but instead she is thrust once more into war. A guardian has been killed, murdered really, and Kydon and Next must head to earth to help discover what is going on. Kydon loves Nexi with a passion that almost undoes him. He has served faithfully and loyally for his entire life. But now he has a mate, a woman he adores and he has to struggle what I am sure all mates of warrior women do. He has to watch her go to war. It was interesting to watch this big strong man falter. To watch him have to step back and let the woman he would sacrifice all for be willing to sacrifice herself. I absolutely adored this book! It would be easy to think this book just another ho hum PNR book because the magic isn't in the blurb or the concept, the magic is in the story itself. Stacey has a gift! This book is like the mist, it gently weaves and whispers around you until you are so immersed in the story that you are lost without it. It was a gift to us readers. The dynamics between Kydon and Nexi remain rock solid, two strong, charismatic individuals who have had to not only learn to accept each other for who they are but for who they aren't. And once again Ms. Kennedy's secondary characters just shine through. I can't say enough about this book.. True Magic. I enjoyed Witches Be Burned and absolutely loved many of the characters, Kyden especially. I liked Nexi, but honestly felt like she was a bit too whiny at times and sadly this happened way too often during Witches Be Burned. I loved the chemistry between Kyden and Nexi and they totally work as a couple for me, even when Kyden is acting super over protective of Nexi. It was almost endearing to see this huge warrior have the ability to be tender with Nexi when needed. I did have issues that Kyden didn't seem to respect the power Nexi had as both a witch and a guardian. I loved all the guardians, witches and vampires coming together for the battle. I will say felt completely chaotic as I tried to keep up with all the main players in the battle. As I'm still learning about the various worlds within the series, I will attribute my confusion to that rather than any fault of the author. I find myself having a hard time distinguishing this book as either a paranormal romance or an urban fantasy book. There were elements of both within the story, and the multiple point-of-views for the story read a bit more like an urban fantasy story for me. I did feel that by the end of the book, Kyden saw Nexi as not only his lover, but as a capable warrior who can handle herself in difficult situations. I felt like Kyden and Nexi's characters both matured a bit and hope they continue to grow and progress in the next book in the series. Witches Be Burned was really did read well as a stand-alone story. However, as I'm a fan of reading all the books in a series, I've already added book 1 to my kindle and my ever-growing To Be Read list. I look forward to reading the 3rd book in this series to see where Ms. Kennedy takes the characters in the future.

I'm honestly not sure where to begin with this one. I've tired to really dig my heals into it and read, but I don't like pushing myself to read a book. I think a book should either hold my attention, or I should move on. So that is where I am at this point. I'm stopping at 30% because I don't feel I should have to trudge through it. Why I feel that way? I rarely start a series on the second book, but wanting to please the publisher, I thought I would give it a shot. Which was a mistake. I've felt lost and totally detached from the book from the beginning. I don't really understand what is going on, how each power works, what the Otherworld really consist of other than a realm for witches and guardians or the purpose of the other paranormal is. ( Other than the werewolf nose, which is obvious) The only time I really felt any interest/connection was when the cat showed up, when they fought the rogue vampire and well when Nexi returns to the castle to find Kyden in the tub. But I still don't understand their relationship. I feel like there is more behind the story on how Nexi came into power, why Kyden is so protective as well as the foundation of their relationship. Not to mention her connection or lack of one with the other witches and guardians or the purpose of the familiar, which I'm sure was intentional but confused me even more. While I think this book has potential to be on my radar, I just can not move forward without reading the first book. The prologue was just not enough for me and I don't think this book was meant to read as a stand alone. Thank you for offering me the chance to read this book. I am truly grateful you asked me. **I received a digital copy of this book, in exchange of my honest review **

She has been guardian duties but at least she is still a witch. She still has to learn the betters of white magic. Thank Goddess she has her sexy boyfriend, Kyden, to show her the way and to be there for her . Also, it helps because he also is a hot elite guardian. BUT just as Nexi has completed her training, horrible tragedy strikes the Otherworld when a fellow guardian is murdered by a group of nasty rogue vampires. Now there is no time left and Nexi and Kyden need to go into the Earthworld to hunt down a killer—and Nexi alone will be put to the extreme- and- final test. Kyden knows that Nexi has to fight this battle on her own, he wants to keep her safe. There are so many ups and downs, twists and turns, and in the end, there is a warlock who covets Nexi’s heart. Kyden fights with himself to allow Nexi to grow even though he wants to keep her safe. Will Nexi come out alive and will the villain be defeated? This book has it all. You have the paranormal; you have the sexy hot love scenes, and OMG, the hot Alpha, dominant male, Kyden with the independent, smart but sassy heroine Nexi. I love the supporting cast of characters-this makes this a terrific book to read. There are still some answers that are needed but I am sure the next book will provide those questions left behind. Overall this is a great book that gives total satisfaction on every level. I completely enjoyed myself with book 2 in the Magic & Mayhem series. The author has a great hit on her hands and hope book 3 isnt too far behind. My rating: 4.7 stars ****

The atrocities in the world have been conducted by rogue vampires, werewolves and demons, or so says Stacey Kennedy. Witches Be Burned is the second installment of the Magic and Mayhem series, but can be read as a stand-alone. Though the intense physical relationship between Kyden and Nexi is developed in the first installment, the give and take of their verbal sparring makes you feel as if you haven’t missed anything at all. I’m not sure how I felt about the cast of characters, Nexi and Kyden included. We are introduced to many Otherworldly beings including Alastar, Zade, Haven, Finn, Astoria, Zia, the Mistress of Witches and of course Mistress Vampires Thalia and Ellery. I really think I like the Mistress Vampires the best. Ruthlessly intelligent they ruled with manicured nails and a tendency to kill whomever they were threatened by. In the beginning we learn that in book one, Nexi kills the evil vampire Lazarus using fire magic that almost killed her in the process. Now, in book two, revenge is sweet according to Astoria good witch gone for cookies on the darkside. Only well, things don’t turn out exactly as she had planned thanks to a dark, mysterious stranger. Magnus, the bad boy Lord of the Underworld, rules the demon infested moon, aka where demons run free wanting to get out and feed on the human population. Turning down the very convincing proposal, Nexi has set herself up to fight a sexual onslaught as well as a magical one from Magnus, but that will all be in the next installment of the Mayhem & Magic series.

It appeared as though all of the bonds they had created a stronger unit and although it can be rough when there are feelings of loss, it can helped to make them stronger. I must admit that because I am reading it out of order it kind of threw me off that I didn't get to see Kyden and Nexi build their relationship from the beginning; but Stacey Kennedy did a great job showing that yes they are together but also they have a lot to work on. Also if you are like me and reading the series out of order it will still be a great read because Kennedy did a great transition between the books. The way she set it up gave a good flash back to what happened and slid right into the new story so there will be no confusion. Overall this book was sexy, fun, and action packed.

I didn't read the first book in the series but had no trouble following this book from the very beginning. Just loved Nexi. Her love for Kyden, her friends, and her willingness to put others before herself made her a wonderful character. The love between Nexi and Kyden is never more apparent than when she admits she is jealous or when he tries to protect her. Being half guardian and half witch she is more than capable of taking care of herself. But he takes his guardian role even more seriously when it comes to her. They are trying to find out who is killing guardians and why. They both have a feeling it is connected to the death of bad guy Lazarus at the hands of Nexi. This turns out to be correct when the black witch Astoria tricks Lexi and manages to get her by herself. She reveals that she was Lazarus's mate. But luckily Lexi is aided by a the same warlock she had seen briefly before and was confused by how attractive she found him. The only thing I couldn't get my head around was Nexi's feelings towards others when she's not with Kyden. The Vampire Mistress, Ellery, I sort of understand with the glamour and whatnot. But the Lord of the Underworld? What's going on there? I guess it's a prelude to a story that will unfold further down the line but it made me feel sorry for Kyden as Nexi is saying one thing and then feeling something else. The pace is steady and the plot is well-written. This was an enjoyable book with a good cast of characters. Recommended for all fans of Paranormal Romance and Stacey Kennedy.

I count that as a con because I felt that I had missed something while I shouldn't have. Some of the parts are explained, but I still felt left out. You can fault me for that, but a few things could have been further explained for both a new reader and someone who hasn't read the first book in a while. For me the scenes and the romance between Nexi and Kyden wasn't enough. I could see the bond between them, but not feel it. And with that Magnus situation, I can say that I am disappointed by the romance and that plot twist. I would like to see more of the secondary characters, if I decide to read the next books. They have good potential. I really hoped that this series would be more like the club sin series. I think that I might give the series a second chance, but I am sure yet. If I do, it will be only because I liked 6 other books by Stacey Kennedy.
