Although the last half of the book is basically recipes for potatoes and puddings and could use more variety, the first half has a great selection of interesting vegetarian stuff, and not all of it is for the crockpot, despite the title. However, the 2 recipes I made (Kashmiri vegetables and 3 veggie kugel) didn't turn out to be as flavor-packed as I had hoped. They weren't terrible-tasting. In fact, I'm eating them for lunch and dinner this week. But the kugel turned out too oily and not crispy Although the last half of the book is basically recipes for potatoes and puddings and could use more variety, the first half has a great selection of interesting vegetarian stuff, and not all of it is for the crockpot, despite the title. In fact, I'm eating them for lunch and dinner this week. But the kugel turned out too oily and not crispy enough, and the vegetables needed more spices and the sauce was not as creamy as I would like. It's not to say I couldn't fiddle with the recipes and get them to where I'd like, or use other recipes from the book and get great results. Much of my disappointment is definitely a personal preference thing. I think I'm giving up on the crockpot as a cooking option because I never like what happens in there (with the exception of apple butter. a recipe not found in this book.) You can find me over at the stove with my dutch oven, thanks very much.

Lots of good sounding eats, but a misleading title. The book has a lot of recipes that aren't slow cooker, just slow to cook. I was specifically looking for slow cooker recipes. I did find it a bit clutter-y to read, as it is a British book and all the measurements are given in Metric/US/Australian, so it it felt a bit jumbled up. Again, lots of good sounding, but slow to cook food. I don't have 3 or 4 hours to cook dinner. I'd call them special occasion recipes, just due to the time they would Lots of good sounding eats, but a misleading title. The book has a lot of recipes that aren't slow cooker, just slow to cook. This was a pretty average cookbook with some really great recipes, but the majority are very basic. My one complaint about the book is the misleading title. A more accurate title would be 175 Slow COOKED Vegetarian Recipes. This is definitely not a slow cooker recipe book as I've come to expect them to be, approximately 50% of the recipes are to be cooked in a slow cooker while the others utilize slow cooking in the oven or on the stove top. Maybe I am just a dum-dum, but almost all of these recipes required an oven and some skillet timez, which is why I am looking for a book using a slow cooker. It promised to use a slow cooker sometimes, but all the recipes I was interested in were all "preheat your oven". Pass.
