This was a very funny book, but perhaps not quite as funny as the rest of the series. Don't get me wrong! The Ugly Truth has plenty of laugh-out-loud moments. But, while the first four books had me roaring with laughter, erupting in guffaws, and frequently demanding to read aloud portions of the inspired insanity to anyone within earshot while gasping and trying to catch my breath, this latest offering only had me chuckling ruefully, or perhaps breaking out in a broad grin from time to time. I think part of the reason why this book didn't tickle my funnybone as much is because Greg Heffley is growing up. He's always been conscious of being a middle-school boy and a bit of late-bloomer, but this volume has him much more worried about when he's going to catch up with a lot of the guys in his class. There's less random hilarity in this volume, and more of a connected storyline, as Greg ruminates on his still strained friendship with Rowley, his uncle's upcoming wedding, his health class and school slumber party. Greg's obsession with getting more popular, and winning over girls in particular, continues to be charming. I was surprised however, by how much he really didn't get it, in terms of Rowley. Greg has been a selfish friend over the years, but he doesn't see that at all. He just wants things to go back to the way they were, when Rowley put up with all of his abuse. Greg's bored demeanor with everything having to do with his family, and his disappointment at being treated like a little kid at his uncle's wedding (he was hoping to be a full-fledged groomsman, rather than an assistant flower boy) was pretty silly, and the highlight of the book, for me, was the school sponsored sleepover. Convinced he's going to be able to mingle with cute girls all evening, Greg eagerly signs up, but is sorely disappointed when it's mostly guys and their over-earnest teachers take away all of the kids cell phones and electronic devices when they refuse to socialize with each other. Predictably, the helicopter parents arrive to pick up their kids early, fearing the worst when they don't answer their text messages. The blend of humor, and stick figure-like cartoons which convey so much emotion which are the hallmarks of this series are still here and Wimpy Kid fans won't be disappointed in this latest addition.

You just can't get enough of it. I have been introduced to these lately and I find it surprisingly addictive. This one brought in little surprises of Greg's mom leaving the house to the men and the resulting dilapidation of the daily routines, the short and thankful introduction of the domestic help and her witty circumventions around the works. I guess the reason we all find this so intriguing and compelling is that there's that kid inside each one of us. The stupid beliefs that we all had about You just can't get enough of it. Things that we keep to ourselves. Those troll incidents that we want to laugh out loud to but do not want to be associated to our adult images. This book brought many such incidents and packed them into one for me. You might think that you maybe a Tony Stark or something but you sure had some funny mishaps in the world of adults. Or as we call it, 'there's this funny thing that happened to my friend in childhood'. A whooping five star from a 22 year old. :)

This was a very funny book. I loved all the parts of the book but I especially loved the part where Greg overheard his parents in thinking that he was going to be the GROOMSMEN because they were getting him a tux. He thinks he gets to join in on the party that's held for the to-be married man. But turned out he was the assistant flower boy. I was laughing so hard because he had to hold the flowers for Manny. i recommend this book to all who loves humor books. This was a very funny book. Greg's family also wants him to be more responsible now as he is getting older and he is also awaiting 'the Talk' from his Gammie as he is getting older. When the men of the family couldn't do all the chores, Greg's mum gets domestic help, in other words a maid. But Greg doesn't like the maid as she doesn't do anything and eats all their junk food. When Greg tells his mum, she doesn't believe him. Greg continues his school and he finds out that Rowley got his first zit and he is becoming a man. Greg also wants to hurry up the growth process but his parents tell him that they were both late bloomers so Greg's hopes vanish. Greg and Rowley get invited to a middle-school party but that same weekend Greg has to attend his uncle's wedding. He tries to get out of it but can't as he is in the wedding party. He misses out going to the party but later on finds out that the party wasn't all it cracked up to be for his classmates. His mum also finds the domestic help actually not doing anything when she gets home early one day. This was also a funny addition to the series. As usual, I love the sketches and Greg's way to manhood and his continuous approach to shirk his responsibilities. 4 stars

I loved this book more than any of the other Wimpy kids for two reasons. First being that it was awesome and funny. Second, this being the last book in my box set I was savoring every page because I knew I have come to the end of the fun journey. I found this book funnier than the others because now Greg has started to have some real issue related to puberty and relations. He is having a tough time dealing and ignoring his one time best friend Rowley and things got worse when Rowley got a pimple I loved this book more than any of the other Wimpy kids for two reasons. He is having a tough time dealing and ignoring his one time best friend Rowley and things got worse when Rowley got a pimple and started considering himself one among the adults. In this book Greg has to keep on dealing with his problems with Rodrick but not too much space is spent on that. Rather this time the book starts with a lock-out which Greg presumed to be a girl-guys night out and how terribly wrong he turns out to be. The events in this lock-out reminded me of the picnics to the same worn out places my public school used to arrange for us. This time Greg also has to attend one of this uncles fifth wedding and the whole family is going to gather at grammy's house for this event. The description of the family members is legen (wait for it !!) dary :) I just can't contain my smile while writing this review. Can't write anymore because I don't want to take the fun out for the other who are still left to read it. Go for it !! As for me, Cabin Fever is my definite next purchase !!

More of the same great formula of simple drawing and funny line continues to rock. I think I will use same review for all the Wimpy Kid books. I don't approve how Greg treats his best-friend Rowley but after all what happened, at least they back as being friends in the end. I like how Greg's Gammie advised him not to hurry growing up and just enjoy his time as a teen now. Young readers of this series also must remember the lessons hidden behind the funny stories in this series because they are written especially for them. Everyone out there seems to be having more fun then Greg. He feels left out. Everything is pretty normal at school but Rowley and Greg are trying their best to try to avoid each other. His uncle Gary was having his third wedding which was a complete dag to go to and the entire family had to stay at Gammie's house which he wasn't looking forward to. Gammie's house isn't the most child friendly place and it was also his turn to get "the talk" from Gammie which he wasn't looking forward to. But then something miraculous happened. Jordan Jury one of the most popular kids in the school invited him and Rowley to a huge party. Greg wants to go but his uncle Gary's wedding is on that day so he couldn't go, but Rowley ended up going. Greg finds out that he was going to get a tuxedo, at the wedding only the groomsmen get wear tuxedos. Maybe this going to his uncle's wedding would be a better thing to do instead of going to the party. From a scale of 1 to 10 I would give this an 8 which goes for every other diary of the wimpy kid book. There were some parts that I really liked but there were some parts that were completely irrelevant to the book. I liked the part about Rowley and him becoming friends.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid is written in third person and Jeff Kinney’s point is to tell the life an unpopular kid in middle school who tries to be the coolest in school. Yes, I would recommend this book to someone. Not just anyone thought, I would only recommend it to young fifth graders who would like to know the life of a middle school student.

This is the worst book of this series in my opinion. The book is like the awkward middle part of the series (Much like Greg). It feels empty without Rowley, and it didn't really feel like it had a main plot. I just wasn't immersed into this book like the other ones in the series, but being a regular reader of the series, I had to read it. This is the worst book of this series in my opinion. Greg and Rowley are on the outs. The trouble is, Greg doesn't have anyone to replace him with. He's also dealing with growing up. It's not all fun and games. And there are also boy and girl parties coming up. Times are changing. My favorite part was when the Heffley's got a maid. All I can say is, if being a maid means watching TV all day, eating snacks, and taking naps in my bed, then I guess I've finally found a career I can get excited about. This a is a fantastic series.
