A great educational book for your children of all ages. My 6 yr old loved it as well as my 3 yr old twins. Lots of good information with beautiful pictures that will help keep children engaged. Not anything higher than a level 1 reader, but still a great introduction to Christopher Columbus. A great addition to any children's library. A great educational book for your children of all ages. This is a cute book I would say is made for little children. This would be a great book to keep in your classroom if you have the babies. This book basically shows Christopher Columbus growing up and how he was finally able to travel the world how he wanted to after begging repeatedly for boats to adventure off with. This book only to shows important milestones in his, life leaving out unnecessary things. The illustrations were very colorful and seem like they would keep a child engaged as well. This biography would be appropriate to read to children of pre-school age, kindergarteners as well as children who are begininning to read. The book was very brief, and even though it took place hundreds of years ago, children will delight in the story and relate to Christopher. The book starts of stating "Christopher Columbus was a dreamer when he was a boy." Columbus wanted to reach the Indies by sailing around the world. He was seeking funding and the King of Portugal said "NO." He asked the King and Queen of Spain and they said no as well. He asked them for many years and the answer was always no, but eventually they agreed. Columbus and the Nina, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria set sail and the book's illustrations depict the journey in a wonderful way. Eventually he lands in what he believes is the West Indies and he discovers the native people and calls them Indians. He did not yet realize that he had discovered a new country. This is the type of book that children will enjoy when learning about historical figures. It was concise and the illustrations were entertaining.

This is a very simple book for younger children to read. It talks about how Christopher Columbus dreamed of sailing and had to ask the king and queen of Spain several times to fund his voyage. This is a good book to get children started on reading about historical people. It also doesn't get too in depth about his life. The illustrations match the text perfectly, therefore a child could look at the pictures for clues as to what the text is saying. This is a good beginner book. This is a great story to help my kindergarten students understand who Christopher Columbus was and what he did. I always read this around Columbus Day and the students really are able to connect with it. This is usually one of the first biographies that I share with my students.
