Cascade 220 is an inexpensive good quality wool in hundreds of colors. However, any yarn of the same weight (or even a different weight if you want to get creative and do something funky) can be substituted if needed. 60 Quick Knits is a fantastic book! The patterns are beautiful and inspiring, each one is unique and holds potential for a million variations of decor, color, stitch patterning etc. There are patterns for kids, like bunny mittens, a lion scarf, a cupcake hat, and more sophisticated patterns like textured tam, hugs and kisses mittens, and even some patterns for the guys like a pocket scarf and tweed mittens. Here is a preview of some of the patterns photographs I mentioned. (http://lh6.ggpht.com/_-sER6e5xCaQ/S7f...) Each pattern tells the level of experience needed to complete it, has one or two high quality good photographs, very good clear instructions, and graphs with keys. In the front of the book is a list of abbreviations, and a conversion table from US needle sizes to Metric needle sizes. The book doesn’t attempting to teach someone to knit, so you’ll need a good knitting teaching book, or a teacher, or some foreknowledge before you can use it. I find this a good thing, since the book is focusing on patterns rather than instruction. When I got this one in the mail, I swear I drooled. My mom and I flipped through the pages oooh-ing and aahhh-ing. I’m going to have trouble picking which one to make first! Recommendation: Knitters at any level 60 Quick Knits is released by Sixth&Springs books on April 6th. **review copy provided by publisher**

There is something for everyone here, regardless of skill level. I'm partial to hats, and I was thrilled to see the easy-level Ribbed Pillbox (would look good on my husband) and the intermediate-level Starfish Hat (which will challenge me to finally learn how to make bobbles). The experienced-level items are not terribly complicated, thanks to the use of clearly written instructions. Charts are included only when it is appropriate (cables, lace, intricate textures). The only drawback to this boo There is something for everyone here, regardless of skill level. 60 Quick Knits Hats, Scarves, and MIttens. I have on my "To-Learn" list - mittens. I love looking at the patterns for hats and scarves as they can have so many different looks and be fun and colorful and they are fast. I have been cold-sheeping (no new yarn until a large amount of the old yarn is used up storage for the newer, prettier yarns coming out) and I decided that I would make a bunch of hats and scarves for homeless and kids who would go without (give to the schools and IHN). It isn't much, but this gave me some patterns to consider using while I make these hats and scarves, and patterns for the mittens so that I might get that skill accomplished, too.

Some wonderful patterns to inspire you, plus with Cascade's incredibly versatile pallette, lots of inspiration in the color combination department. There are patterns for every skill level here, and while some things I would have chosen different colors for (that's the nice thing about knitting - I can!) there's lots of diversity here. The instructions are pretty good, with a nice mix of charts anf written out. I was so impressed with this book. Usually a book only has one or two patterns in it that'd I'd actually use, but this book I'm seriously considering purchasing, because there are enough patterns I like to make it worthwhile. My one dislike of the book is that there is only one photo per project. I suppose the did that to cut down on publishing costs, but it would have been nice to see other angles of the projects. This is another of my favorite knitting books. I have both of the Cascade 220. This is the one for the worsted weight and I've made several of the projects. I especially like the pattern for Mock Cabled Wristers. There are a lot of great patterns here for mitts, hats and scarves and all of them are great patterns. Of the 60 patterns there are only few that I can't see myself doing. Highly recommended. This is another of my favorite knitting books. I have both of the Cascade 220. Checked this out from the library but will probably buy it as there are several patterns I'd like to try. Patterns are for varying skills so it will allow me to re-use old skills as well as develop new techniques. Getting ready for my first attempt at using double pt needles on a project from this book. Several fun projects -- also want to try the lion's head scarf. Checked this out from the library but will probably buy it as there are several patterns I'd like to try. A great collection of quick, stash busting projects in a variety of difficulty - all are in worsted weight yarn, so they should knit up quickly. Can't wait to try some of them, especially the mittens! Borrowed this from the library, but it is now on my Christmas wish-list - so many cool and interesting things that I am just itching to knit. I find myself even wanting to knit mittens, which I have never had the slightest desire to knit before!

I got this book from the library, but will probably have to purchase it to keep using the patterns. The book does a great job of highlighting the best features of Cascade 220, especially it's loftiness and depth of color. Any number of great patterns for many skill levels. I like this one. However, we don't really have a need for mittens but I likes the hats and scarves. I like doing one skein projects and there are lot of hats to choose from for men and women. This is a well written instructional book, with easy-to-follow patterns. The colour pictures are great, too. There's something for everyone in this book. Wonderful patterns. It is one of the few knitting books that I've come across recently that has more than one or two items that I'd like to knit. Wonderful patterns. It is one of the few knitting books that I've come across recently that has more than one or two items that I'd like to knit.
