The book is 208 pages long and I would say about 50 of them have great check-lists, ideas, worksheets, brainstorming tactics, etc. It's a super quick read and you can skim through parts that may not pertain to you (I sat down and read it in one night...took me about two hours). There are some nice sample contracts, business models, etc. I wasn't necessarily reading it to become a public speaker, but more for the PR of pitching/representing speakers as well as building my business. The examples are easy to shift into any business model. A few pieces do get redundant and I skipped most of the "flashpoints" from other speakers. There's a bunch of name-dropping in the book, but if you're not in the speaker circuit, you have no idea who those people are.

This was such a great book I wish I knew about it sooner. I would have saved a lot of time and thousands of dollars had I just known some of these great insights. If you are starting any business this is great advice. If you are staring a business as a professional speaker you need to read this book immediately. Jane does a great job of showing you step by step how to build a business and get things moving in the right sequence. I made a lot of changes to my strategy, and even my marketing materials as I read the book. Put this one on your "Must read this before any other" list...unless you are looking for a book on leadership in which case I recommend my own book ; o) The Attitude Check: Lessons In Leadership

If you want to become a paid, professional speaker, then you need to read this book. In it you'll learn a lot about the business of speaking as well as how to market yourself as a professional speaker. Most importantly you'll learn that what makes a speaker successful isn't just create content or even a great marketing plan, it's lot of practice and willingness to become the best possible speaker while developing great content and great marketing. Jane's perspectives helped me to narrow the focus of my business, which has led to a measurable increase in business. Now that I've picked my lane, I own my subject and niche. It has made life much easier to be clear about what I do and more importantly, what I don't do as a speaker, trainer, author. If you are in the speaking business, Jane's book is a must-read. In addition, her coaching services help any speaker move their business ahead. Thanks Jane! This is the best book for developing a speaking business. Loaded with practical information and tons of real life examples, Jane's latest offering is worth every penny (and more!). I especially liked her ready, aim, fire approach to the business, super helpful for speaker types with ten new ideas a day! This is the best book for developing a speaking business. Since I wrote this book, I don't think I can be objective. I will say that The Wealthy Speaker 2.0 (2012) is really amazing. We worked very hard to get it to be totally current, and up-to-date with all of the technology and economic changes that have happened in the past 5-10 years. This was a good start to getting me thinking about developing my speaking platform and marketing it. She broke it down in steps and included stories from other speakers that I really enjoyed. So, it wasn't just her "talking" in the book. This was a good start to getting me thinking about developing my speaking platform and marketing it. The style is clunky and the stories too much like fables. Use this book for the good checklists it provides (if you're thinking of becoming a wealthy public speaker) not for the reading experience. The style is clunky and the stories too much like fables. Good for skimming and incorporating some ideas into any type of business as speaking always relates to perceived expert In a field. Jane shares a lot of her personal stories of working with clients. Although she did a great job telling stories, I felt like it lacked the pratical strategies and tools that I was looking for in a speaking book.
