The Water Seven / Enies Lobby arc has definitely been my favourite so far. Rob Lucci is a fantastic villain and it's the first arc where I've felt that the stakes are truly high! This is just to help me remember what things happened in which volume. Gods. The war begins. - Firstly, though, as usual, I enjoy the chapter covers. So far, the last few covers and then-some have detailed the adventures of Baroque Works and where the numbered agents have gone. I love the showing of Crocodile, since, to date, he's still one of my favorite villains. - The Puffing Tom smashes into the Tower of Law, and the Mugiwaras all make their way in, meeting up with a freed Franky (who burns the Pluton blueprints a volume before). - Fukuro unravels to the pirates that Robin's powers are suppressed by kairouseki handcuffs, which can only be opened by one of the keys a CP9 member is holding. So the Mugiwaras all split to look for these five keys. - Hilarity abounds when Zoro and Usopp manage to handcuff each other with kairouseki, thereby screwing themselves over, considering they now have to face both Kaku and Jabra and their Devil's Fruit abilities. Zoro's ideas and reactions always make me laugh. And Usopp is no better (the bit with the rooster almost made me bust a gullet). - Sanji clearly is screwed over by the fact that he manages to make it to Kalifa first. Yeah, that wasn't going to end well. - Nami manages to steal the key from Kumadori with minimal harm--thanks to Chopper, who manages to strike a few hits on Kumadori as the two escape. After encountering a defeated Sanji, however, it's clear who the person fighting Kalifa is. - That said, Kalifa and Nami is just going to end up being one heck of a fan service fight. Just saying. - Franky's fight against Fukuro is one of the first to finish, with the help of Chopper and three bottles of cola. Yasai punch is still one of my favorite Franky attacks. - Chopper's fight with Kumadori wasn't going too well until Chopper decided to overdose on Rumble Balls. Yeah, three times is not the charm, but it got the job done. - Now, the problem is how to stop a rampaging, drugged up Chopper. But that's something to solve for next volume. - Meanwhile, Luffy barrels through to look for Robin. The problem is that this man tries to sail toward the Gates of Justice. Which is clearly dumb. Thankfully, Chimney leads Luffy in the right direction, and we see a bit of Gear Third. - Spandam starts to soil his britches. And Luffy encounters Lucci.

The fights in this arcs are so good. Super fun to read. And the tension runs HIGH

After the high-tension ending of the previous volume, I wasn’t expecting a comic relief volume to follow it up. The Straw Hats take on CP-9 in order to get the key to Robin’s handcuffs, with the crew splitting up so one of them can take each of the CP-9 members. Since each each crewmember needs their time to shine it does mean that after a whole volume we’re not really any closer to seeing the final showdown and Robin’s rescue, but the fights are entertaining at least. There’s all sorts of bizarre powers on show and things go hilariously wrong for the Straw Hats at times, making for entertaining hijinx. Something drastic happens towards the end that raises the stakes and means the crew are going to have to double-time it to save Robin ASAP.

For me, One Piece is best Manga ever written. The story always touch my heart, it is a combination of faithful friendship, laughter, loyalty and action. Some people might find this manga as silly and pointless (I’ve heard this before) but they never truly read the Manga and therefore judging it simply from the cover. I’ve been in that position too…and thank God I finally looked beyond the cover and found the greatest adventure any Mangaka ever written. Alright, let me just say it: The characters in OP are such idiots *facepalms* I cannot believe they get themselves in such ridiculous and troublesome situations like they do!! This entire vol is the fight against the members of the CP9. Oda maintains the vol interesting enough with many odd twists and turns. There is quite an amount of humor here. Though that really takes away an amount of tension, which I did not like. Some things were just way too beyond silly. It's good to have some humor, so things won't be too tense, but as I said, some scenes were just plain silly. Overall, was just an alright volume.

The battles pairings were a bit surprising...these guys really need to start learning to judge their opponents better. The book got the last star largely for Kaku's devil fruit power. Giraffe form, another Zoan fruit in the bad guy team; the Bubble Bubble fruit was...less awesome. The whole key thing was lame and just in there to make everyone fight...which they would have anyway. Coward Spanda. I can't believe he was dumb enough to call a Buster Call on himself...okay, yeah I can. This stretch of One Piece has hit a terrific roll - Volume 42 splits the crew up for their individual fights against CP9 (Oda very much taking the path of least resistance re. how to arrange this) and the mood tilts back to broad comedy after the high melodrama of the last few volumes. This volume resolves a few of the undercard fights and provides very entertaining set up for the bigger ones. No wonder that I became more fond of Rubin learning about her back story in the last couple of volumes. This one preparing the setting of the next volume. Two members of CP9 gained new devil fruit powers, you know which one against which, nearly everyone is being beat up and that fool triggered a buster call by mistake. The end of the volume leaves you on edge but I guess volume 43 will be even more intense.

Luffy & gang finally get their direct confrontation with CP9 and it's entertaining. The CP9's newly acquired devil-fruit powers are revealed with amusing results and Eiichiro Oda makes some intriguing twists on his face-off formula to keep it surprising. In short, another fun volume in a very fun series. Luffy & gang finally get their direct confrontation with CP9 and it's entertaining.
