This is the first graphic novel in the Geronimo Stilton Graphic Novel series published by Papercutz. I read this to my daughters and they totally fell in love with it! I love how the book is a story of the mouse Geronimo Stilton and his family and friends going into time in history through a time machine and along the way young readers will also learn about history. I really like that as a parent! In this volume we read and see the adventures of Geronimo Stilton and his friend and relative going back into time during the era of Christopher Columbus’ voyage in discovering America. The reason why they went to this time period is because one of Geronimo’s friend, Professor Von Volt discovered that the Pirate Cats were going back into that time period and the Pirate Cats are up to no good. Geronimo and company has to not only search for the Pirate Cats which is not easy since they are disguised as mouse but also to uncover their secret plot to change history and stop their attempt. It is a pretty fun read and I enjoyed how along the way in the book there’s also fact box about real history of what happened. This is a great reinforcement for my kids of what they learn about history of what I taught them. Yet it is also fun for the kids. Overall this work was clean for kids though at times it was a bit slapstick and silly with how Geronimo’s cousin Trap accidently hurt Geronimo. I recommend it.

Notions of time travel in this book are absolutely ridiculous. The heroes have to "catch up" to the cat pirates and get to medieval Spain a day later than them. What? Why not go back in time to before the cats get there and kick their asses? There's a lot of silliness that I suppose kids would like, but that doesn't really add to the plot. I was hoping that the graphic novels would improve on the books (as the Goosebumps graphics novels do), but it's the same mass-marketed, cheap thrills kind of Notions of time travel in this book are absolutely ridiculous. Ridiculous book. Geronimo and friends travel back in time to stop the Pirate Cats from going back in time and changing history. This story focuses on Christopher Columbus' 1492 voyage. Aside from the fact that I think there are plenty of people who WOULD like to change that bit of history, this story makes the whole voyage look really easy (other than the pirate cats' plots to cause mutiny, of course). And when they get to the Bahamas, they and the natives throw a dance party on the beach! Yeah r Ridiculous book. And he announced it wasn't as good as the G.S. chapter books.

#1. This book is meant for elementary school aged children...adults who read this and all other children's books should probably remember who the target audience is while reading it and reviewing it. #2. It is a fantasy based story that is primarily meant to entertain the child reader. #3. This tiny book is a great little aid in the social studies department. We read it after reading a real book on Christopher Columbus and the discovery of America. Absolutely wonderful and memorable. #4. My child- #1. This presents a very shiny happy version of Columbus's first voyage to the Americas. Fans of Geronimo's books might like this, but I missed the cute humor you find in the chapter books. The art style is the same, but the font is more consistent here than in the chapter books. This book would be OK for fans of the series, or for very young kids looking for historical fiction.

We've read most of the Geronimo Stilton Graphic Novels and our girls really like them. I thought they were very hard to read aloud at first, but I've gotten used to them. And I love that they include bits of history into the stories and we get to know a little more about life during those times. While the tale is not overly accurate, the small blurbs that accompany many of the pages are good sources of information. I think this book is really good, just like the fiction kinds, but this is in graphic novel. I recommend people to read this story, if they like Geronimo Stilton books, try reading the graphic novels. In graphic novels, there is always a mystery. Very, very, good stories!! :) There are the same characters in the graphic novel, same as the fiction books. So it won't be too confusing if you read Geronimo Stilton's fiction, not graphic novel. This book was pretty good. I liked that the topic was educational, so are all the other books in the series. I also thought the book had good vocabulary in it and could be a new challenge for some kids. Geronimo Stilton was one of my favorite series when I was a child. I saw this graphic novel at the library, and couldn't resist the urge to pick it up. Even though it's meant for a much younger audience, I still enjoyed it. I found that it brought back a lot of nostalgia. It was a cute graphic novel. If I can find more, I might continue the series.

Read aloud to Emma and Will in two sittings. This graphic novel wasn't high literature, but it fit perfectly with our study of Columbus. It's silly, but filled with little historical tidbits along the way. I'll be looking for more of these to read aloud.

Read this in digital format, which I don't recommend, at least not on a regular computer monitor--the text is too tiny and the usual screen enlargement function doesn't work. Otherwise, it was a cute cartoonish, obviously somewhat distorted, version of Columbus' trip to America.

I'm rounding up to three stars because the art is fun, but this book wasn't for me. (Even aside from the whole "makes Christopher Columbus seem like a cool guy who didn't do a bunch of bad stuff" angle.) I know lots of kids love this series - it's popular at our library - and it's neat that the books include so much historical detail. (Even if, again, some of it might be a bit whitewashed.) I have never very comfortable reading Geronimo Stilton for its funny font and odd page format, but the Geronimo Stilton graphic novels are far better. This particular one was a quick read, had a ridiculous plot and a fun recollection of Columbus and his epic voyage. Not much to reflect, not much to recollect - all in all, I was a 10 years old for about one hour.
