I read this book for my English subject and we were required to write a review about it. Here's my general opinion about the novel: I think, it’s a great story. It’s realistic enough to keep a reader going. Though there are some parts where you will be confused as to what’s happening and clueless about the purpose of some scenes, the way the story was told covers it up. So, if I am to rank the book, I’ll give it three stars. Here's the link to my full review if you're interested. Anyways, enjoy reading the book. :D

Had to read this for Filipino Lit class and I didn't enjoy it so much. The story meanders along a weird theme about the Filipino identity and the Filipino family, but I cannot grasp it well. It takes a couple of reads to really understand. NVM Gonzales, however, succeeds in painting landscapes. He does so with amazing attention to detail. Still, this quality is overshadowed by the flatness of most of the characters in this novel, with the exception of the fiery Sabel. I did not understand the plot. Seriously. But it was well-written.
