Summary: This is a compilation of poems by American youth in the year 2000; writer information accompanying each poem gives name and age. Over 150 poems are featured on vast array of subjects using many poetic forms. Audience: grades 4-8 Uses: Study of poetry in its many different forms. Independent reading would likely be for transitional readers, but poems vary from early to fluent. Poems could be pulled out for purpose of style and form samples. Additional notes: This book is not well organized Summary: This is a compilation of poems by American youth in the year 2000; writer information accompanying each poem gives name and age. Additional notes: This book is not well organized in topic or separated by form. Poems appear randomly and there are no headings, illustrations, or divisions of any kind. The poems seem to be written predominantly without reference to culture outside of white, middle class American.

I have this anthology, and I LOVE it. Mostly because I have a poem published in it (under Sara Almquist)...as do many of my childhood friends...but it's really cute reading through elementary school kids' poetry. If you love kids and the adorable things they say, you should probably own one of the editions at least. They're precious. I have this anthology, and I LOVE it. This book consists of many poems. Children write these short poems about whatever they like from dogs and horses to historical events and family.
