I received an ARC from the author and this is my honest review. There are many many things that I loved about this book. I was charmed by a lot of it and it was very enjoyable. He’s young and acts like it. He’s snarky and adorably insecure. He beautiful but doesn’t know it, out proud and a genuine good person. Connor is the all-American football player who is supposedly straight… he’s always been nice to Emory, always felt a connection to him… and then Emory grows up and turns into someone Connor salivates over, stars at and generally lusts over. Too bad Emory can’t really see it…until he does. #EyesWideOpen -The plot: Snarky, sweet, funny and a bit graphically frightening at times. There is something is lurking in The Outpost, the abandoned resort, and Emory is determined to find out what it is and solve the mystery… It’s his expertise after all. #StephenKingVibes -The Romance: Innocent ad cute. These boys have been gradually falling for each other apart, and then come together and pick up from there. -Steam-o-meter: No steam… its YA-NA so it makes sense. #PG13 -Angst-o-meter: No angst! Our boys are in love and don’t want anything to keep them apart. #NoDrama -The HEA: They are young and their life is just beginning but they have plans to be together and exclusive. #ThisIsJustTheBeginning Niggles: The story needed tightening in some places and needs some minor changes and attention to details.

A summer romance drenched in horror references, humor, and violent murders? Yes. A thousand times, YES! Bauer mixes rom-com and horror perfectly. I was bouncing back and forth between laughing and screaming. THIS IS NOT A HORROR MOVIE was such a fun read. I couldn’t put it down. I don’t think I’ve enjoyed a romance this much since Bauer’s BITE SOMEBODY. It’s dark and still so sweet at times. Because I need that too.

Beautifully written, I found This is Not a Horror Movie to be sweet, sexy and funny! Add in a dash of mystery, suspense and a touch of darkness with a supernatural baddie. This story is told from Emery’s POV, he’s always been the small kid with his nose in a book, a long time horror movie buff. He’s smart and funny but was often bullied in school for being gay. He’s just turned 18, graduated high school and shot up quite a few inches in the last year. Emery is not the nerdy kid anymore, he’s now Beautifully written, I found This is Not a Horror Movie to be sweet, sexy and funny! He’s just turned 18, graduated high school and shot up quite a few inches in the last year. Emery is not the nerdy kid anymore, he’s now the hot guy, though not quite aware of it himself yet. Conner is his long time crush and they meet up every summer for 2 weeks when their parents rent a beach house in Florida. Conner is the slightly older handsome jock Emery never thought he could have, assuming he was straight. Turns out Conner is bi and Emery’s ‘glow-up’ leaves him stunned when they meet again that summer. Emery has a twin sister named Liz. Before they can get too comfortable someone goes missing and a mangled body washes up on shore. The three of them end up getting involved in trying to find a missing friend and creepy happenings ensue. Although the story takes a darker turn it does not lose it’s humor and the MC’s relationship continues to progress. Conner was wonderful, a younger protective alpha in the making. They had great chemistry and sexy interactions without fully crossing over into adult story territory. Sex takes place but in a fade to black type way. I received an early copy of this book after winning it in a contest, before this I had read just one other book by this author, Handsome Death, a favorite I re-read often.

Never in my life have I encountered a more romantic, thrilling story that had me hooked from the first word to the last. The relationship between Emory and Connor is comical and oh-so beautiful. The way Liz, Connor, and Emory communicate with each other had me laughing all the way. The shock of learning that Connor had feelings for Emory for years had me gasping for the next page! And I have never related more to a character than I related to Emory. Incredible. Beautiful. Laugh-out-loud reading. Sara has outdone herself with this masterpiece and this book will live on to be a reread and a favorite among many. And I can't forget about the steamy romance between Emory and Connor. They way they talked, exchanged glances, and touched was beautiful and charming and ever-so sexy. Each page had my full attention span and I never wanted to stop reading. All I can say is "PUT DOWN WHATEVER BOOK YOU ARE CURRENTLY READING AND START READING THIS BOOK IMMEDIATELY!!!!!" You won't regret picking up this book and giving it a gander; once you set foot within the pages of this book, you will be starstruck for all eternity, that is until virgins spill their blood all over the ground... Read this book at once people!!! The fate of the Outpost depends on it......( And I know you wouldn't want to miss a charming gay romance novel with a thrill for survival mixed in)...

Sara Dobie Bauer has a way of writing conversation and speech in a way that is so smooth and believable, it sucks me in immediately. The characters are all dynamic and real in a way that makes you feel like you know them and share inside jokes with them. The plot of this book was right up my alley, and I enjoyed every moment of suspense and tension. It also helped get me in the mood for the upcoming summer with the well detailed setting, which made me feel like I was standing with the characters Sara Dobie Bauer has a way of writing conversation and speech in a way that is so smooth and believable, it sucks me in immediately.
