Jessie is learning how to become her new self and learning magic isn't easy while constantly being attacked by mages and various magical people. She is learning and building her power base with Austin her romantic interest, who is the most powerful shifter ever. Elliot Graves a mage who has been after her for a long time. But he won't find her such an easy target anymore. A fun series and enjoyable!

Let it never end If I can only have one wish, it would be for Leveling Up never to end. This latest book answered many questions left pending with the previous books, set the stage for even more magical action, shed light on some important characters and some less important ones (like finding out what Ivy House really thinks of Edgar), and if there wasn't as much laughter as in the previous books, it was only because the stage was different. Although laughter there was! Those blasted dolls!!!! And Let it never end If I can only have one wish, it would be for Leveling Up never to end. Magical Midlife Meeting is the 5th book in Breene’s Leveling Up series about 40-something, recently divorced former stay at home wife and mother Jacinta or Jessie (now called Ironheart because of her strong and caring heart) starting her life over again after her only child Jimmy goes off to college and she ends her unfulfilling, stagnant 20-year marriage. She travels to a small California town where she accepts the job of caretaker of Ivy House, unbeknownst to her a house imbued with great magi Magical Midlife Meeting is the 5th book in Breene’s Leveling Up series about 40-something, recently divorced former stay at home wife and mother Jacinta or Jessie (now called Ironheart because of her strong and caring heart) starting her life over again after her only child Jimmy goes off to college and she ends her unfulfilling, stagnant 20-year marriage. She travels to a small California town where she accepts the job of caretaker of Ivy House, unbeknownst to her a house imbued with great magic by its original owner a rare female gargoyle. She becomes the Heir to Ivy House, a female gargoyle herself. potentially the most powerful creature in the magical world she hadn’t even known existed a year ago when she was just a Jane (non-magical human woman). While this book can be read as a standalone, I would encourage you to at least read the first book in this series, Magical Midlife Madness to get a better understanding of the main characters and plot. In the first three books in the series we meet all the main characters, Ivy House’s small group of quirky defenders, Austin Steele the town’s alpha shifter who introduces Jessie to the magical world, becomes Jessie’s friend, and protector and Elliot Graves her nemesis who will try to charm, kidnap and attack her. In those books Jessie attempts to grow into her immense powers while building a team around her to help fend off magical challenges from Graves and others to her and Ivy House. The author also plays the “Will they or won’t they” game with readers as Jessie and Austin dance around and attempt to ignore the powerful attraction between them. In the 4th previous book, Magical Midlife Love they do finally give into that attraction adding a romantic and sexual element to the stories. Jessie also finds a powerful mage Sebastian, willing to teach her how to use her magical powers for creating spells. Unfortunately, at the end of that book Sebastian meets an untimely end leaving Jessie grieving the loss of her friend and mentor and more determined than ever to rid the magical world of the powerful mage and crime boss Elliott Graves who claims responsibility for Sebastian's death. In this book Jessie and her powerful team of magical creatures prepare to enter the lion’s den that is Grave’s mountain sanctuary, answering his invitation to attend a summit with him and other powerful mages. Jessie as usual may lack the confidence she needs to take on the challenge, but she is not lacking in courage and determination. She agrees to attend the conference with the sole intention of killing Graves to end his constant threats to her and avenge Sebastian’s murder. Graves is fully aware of Jessie’s intentions but he is a master manipulator with plans of his own for Jessie. Complicating matters is the fact that Jessie is well into the mating slide with Austin. She can hardly focus on anything beyond her need for him, her desire to claim him and fend off and destroy anyone who threatens him or challenges her for his affection. In this story we also are introduced to a couple of new characters, Nessa, Grave’s only friend and assistant and Broken Sue, a powerful former alpha shifter who has joined Austin’s pack. Seeing as I couldn’t put this highly entertaining book down until reading it from cover to cover in one day’s time, giving it 5 stars was a no-brainer for me. (view spoiler)[ It was wonderful to see Jessie finally come into her own fully accepting her female gargoyle side, owning her rightful place in the magical world hierarchy and her love for Austin completing the mating bond. While her gargoyle side makes her a little blood thirsty, she manages to hold on to her humanity that keeps her balanced. (hide spoiler)] The good news is this is not the last book in the Leveling Up series as Jessie and Austin will attempt to build a powerful army of magical allies to challenge the evil crime lord Momar and the corrupt Mage’s Guild he controls. The bad news is Breene gives us no clue (not even a working title) as to when the next book will be published. Although knowing the last book in her long running DDVM World series where our heroine Regan will finally stop hiding who she is and confront her powerful father and the Elves is in the offing, is no small consolation prize while I wait for the next and likely final book in this series.

The epic battle between Elliot Graves and Jessie’s crew FINALLY comes to a head! I feel like it’s uncommon for Breene to drag out such a battle, but I’m glad she did. As torturous as it’s been, it’s oh so worth it. It’s truly difficult to write this without spoilers, but after the revelation about Sebastian in book 4, his motives and actions become so much clearer. This is truly the book in the series where Breene showcases her storytelling. It’s nothing shy of pure brilliance. So much is explained, and though there’s PLENTY of conflict, she continue to builds the suspense by shifting the focus to an even greater threat than Graves. In true Breene fashion, now that Jessie has found her mate, she unabashedly adds quite a bit more sexy-time; though it’s with a purpose. I think she would have done the series a disservice if she would have followed the footsteps of many other PWF authors to fade to black instead of including their intimacies. By now, Jessie’s almost fully accepted herself with all her strengths and flaws which is what makes her so enjoyable to read. She has the passion, love, and strength of a mother which I like so many connect with. She becomes even tougher than before, which makes this one of my favorite books so far in the series. My only criticism is it centers around a situation similar to the end of her Demigods series in that Jessie and her team must travel to Grave’s mountain and compete against other teams in both formal battles, and skirmishes that can happen when moving around the public areas. Thankfully the final battle sets this series apart from the other, but it’s enough of a similarity that it did grate my nerves. It does make sense, and much is revealed, but I wish she didn’t use the same themes in successful series. In all, I devoured this book in an inhuman amount of time, and though there isn’t a cliffhanger or even much of a hook, I still need the next books in the series NOW so I can discover what will happen to Jessie and everyone that surrounds her.

This is quite possibly my favorite book in the series. Each book up until now, had its quirks and funny moments, but book #5 is what really clinched the series for me. Some of the timing of events was perfectly planned, so I found myself flipping page after page because I needed to know if everyone made it out unscathed. And Edgar. My dear Edgar becomes my favorite character just a little bit more each time. Sure, Mr. Tom is there for the perfect comic relief, but Edgar is just so endearing I can't help but want to befriend him in real life. One of my favorite quotes from this book is actually about him: "You are the only reason why I allow that sort of madness near my home, I hope you know that," Austin said... "If you eve wonder how much you mean to me, look no further than Edgar hanging out in my yard with a spray bottle." I also found it really neat how, now that we have seen another side of Elliot Graves from book 4, I was really rotting for both sides. It didn't feel so much like good vs. evil, but rather a spark of hope that the characters I'd come to love made it out ok. One thing I've come to appreciate about KF Breene, is that even though some scenes are emotional, it's rare that she'll ever rip my heart out and stomp on it. She always has a plan, and for that reason, I know that I will continue to love her books.

If I could enjoy it, I'd read this series over, and over.. But my photographic memory doesn't work that way.... I luv K. F. Breenes books, but this series is closest to my heart. With having a partial photographic memory, and a high IQ, I bore easily while reading. She can make the possibilities for somethings endless by the way she, as a writer, sets the stage. I immerse myself in her worlds, and don't want to leave....I do have some other favorite authors, because they are capable of the same awesum writing, but they're not K. F. Breene. Her characters have whit, sarcasm, sex, or sexiness, and I can (in my little mind) feel, taste, touch, smell, and hear her world while inside her tale. But Jessie speaks to me, in a way not many characters could...11 years ago I walked away from my abusive husband, a 21 year marriage, and all we had built. I burned everything but my professional world to the ground to leave. Then, 2 years later, I was in a huge car accident, had brain surgery, and lost my financial stability. I had 2 disabled children of the family that I had since birth and had just adopted, and I couldn't see a way forward. Obviously, I found my way, and so has Jessie, Huzzahhhh!!! Thank you for making life more interesting, by sharing the world's you've created in your mind with me.

Loved this!!! The battle this has all been building up to!!! Elliot Graves vs Jessie and her team, talk about anticipation, I was beside myself to see how this would play out!! Elliot has issued a formal invitation to Jessie and the meeting is on his home turf inside a mountain!! Austin and Jessie are smack bang in the middle of mating, but it seems that Jessie's gargoyle is holding back off completing the mating with Austin, it seem she is waiting for something in particular?! I tell ya, this series, it's just the best!! I seriously can't get enough of it!! The wit and banter, the magic and the fights, the steamy scenes with Austin and Jessie!! I love how the whole of Jessie's crew interact so well together, how Jessie's actions are just so down to earth, she has no idea just how powerful she is along with her motley crew! I devoured this, unable to read quick enough yet thoroughly engrossed in the story, laughing away to myself at the latest antics the crew were up to, enjoying the building passion between Austin and Jessie as they slid towards being fully mated. This has got to be one of my all time favourite series reads, I just don't want it to end!! I eagerly await the next book! Not to be missed!

Kiss the cook I'm just going to come out and say it, Austin Steele cooking shirtless is a thing. I need a cooking show like that in my life. And a DVR. My goodness, can you imagine? Luckily for us, KF Breene did, and we wholeheartedly thank her for it. The insanity of these characters had me laughing outloud right from the outset. Jessie has grown throughout this series. No longer a fish out of water, she's ready to claim her mantle. Breene specializes in women claiming their power. The rite of passage is never handed out, it's hard earned and hard learned. We all can relate to that. And honestly, these hunky men - Austin Steele has to be, hands down, the sexist hero Breene has written. And certainly the smoothest. And of course he has that whole shirtless cooking thing going on. Give me strength. Decisions are made here that will effect the Ivy House gang going forward. There's a big storm brewing on the horizon, and it's going to take everyone, and their brother, to face what's coming and win. Great fun and craziness, and it's solid in the feels department. Someone alert the Food Network that KF Breene has a great idea for a new show called Sexy Men Make Dinner. I'll watch it.

This is my favorite book of the series. Breene played a long game with this series, keeping us wondering if and when Jessie and the fabulous Mr Steele would get together. In book 4 they began their mating dance, teasing us with their attraction and respect for each other, even though they were dealing with a challenge from a mage strong enough for them to ask Austin’s brother to help. She’s received an invitation from Elliot Graves to join other mages in his mountain retreat for a series of events. She hates Graves, thinking he killed her friend Sebastian, and wants retribution. After training and adding strong characters to her Ivy House circle, Austin and three shifters joined them to journey into the mountain. The crew is strong and confident, more so actually than Jessie. They respect her and know she’s going to do her best to protect them. They faced their summons with strength and teamwork. This book is laugh out loud funny in places, extremely sexy without being raunchy in others, and exciting as Jessie and the crew meet and excellent in the challenges inside Elliot’s mountain. I was thrilled with events involving Jessie and Austin. Also hope that Austin’s man Sue might get a second chance out of this event. Someone seems Interested in making that happen.

I LOVE THIS SERIES! This was another winner in a wonderful and hilarious series. Just when I thought that this was going to be the final book in the series - the climax and resolution - boy was I wrong. Yes, we finally have the "battle", but it ends up being only the beginning. I alternated between listening and reading this book and while I usually say that I had no problems with the narration, this is one of those rare books where I would completely suggest that you listen to the audio version. Nicole Poole is a fantastic narrator and for some reason, her portrayal of this series just completely brings it to life. The voices that she uses for the various crazy characters are spot on and make a great book even better. Seriously...she is fantastic. This is NOT a stand alone, there are 4 books prior to this one. You really need to start at the beginning and just enjoy the ride. One of the great things about this book is that we get to see what a phenomenal job that Jessie did building her team. Her team is strong and loyal and ready to head into battle for Jessie. I especially LOVED what was happening between Jessie and Austin Stone (it's about time, even though the timing was kind of hilarious) and the dialogue between all of these crazy characters left my stomach hurting because of my laughing. With no spoilers, let me just say that I LOVED EVERY minute of this book and am ready and waiting to see what is going to happen next.

I swear this series just gets better and better. I'm not going to lie, so far I've loved every K.F. Breene book/series I've read. She's an amazing writer, she adds comedy and quirky characters, they are always a wild ride and a great read. However, there is something special about Jessie and her team of misfit bad***es. It happened in just the right way and left me wanting more more more. I am always careful not to give away any plot points when I leave a review so they can come out vague, however, You must read this series. It has everything. Love, comedy, bad*** characters, villain's you will have a serious love hate relationship and with and a crazy freaking house with killer dolls. I know at some point this series will have to end but I honestly hope it's not soon. I'm hoping for at least a couple more books before I have to say goodbye to these characters. They bring me such joy I can't imagine not having more stories to read about them all.

Ugh Disappointed I love love love this series. I love the humor and the characters. I love that Jessie is middle aged and using her wisdom to get through all of these changes coming her way. I love this genre of books but not all the characters read middle age even though they are supposed to be in their 40s. Jessie reads 40s and it makes the books even better. I don’t know Jessie and Austin’s relationship has been this sultry building burn and I was disappointed in their consumption in the last book and now disappointed in the mating in this book. I know K.F.Breene has it in her to write amazing love and sex scenes I just felt disappointed they seemed rushed. I’ll keep reading but I want the fun and excitement of books 1-2! Also the “battles” in this book, Snooze fest!

There are so many things that make this series unique. To me, the biggest draw is the 40 year old MC. Jess is relatable in a way that other protagonists are not. Which makes her journey into the magical realm that much more enjoyable. 4.75 ⭐

I want a mid-life this cool. If you’re a fan of K.F. Breene, and you should be, you know the one thing she excels at is writing super-powered but amazingly chill characters who don’t run amok trying to prove how big and tough they are. True storytelling with no ego. And zaniness. She definitely gets a plus for that. And she spreads that quirk with most of the characters in the book so you never know when a good one liner is gonna jump out at you. Or a doll. Always with the dolls in this series. We are treated to a new powerful shifter for this adventure, a little bit of arson, Mr. Tom failing miserably *snort* and a couple of really good doozies. To even hint at them would be tragic. This series is wrapped for a while but it’s not over yet. The author is taking a short break to finish another series so have no fear, we’ll see more mayhem of the Magical Mid-Life variety before you know it.

One mage who was drawn to her, Sebastian, had the skills to teach her and they had a great rapport but she lost him. Now she has to face the bogeyman of mages Elliot Graves, and a number of other mages, none of whom realise how strong she is. Seeing how Jessie and her ragtag of followers confront the battle keeps you on your toes. A really great story!

This series is getting better with each book. Here, Jessie is nervously training and preparing to meet Elliot Graves, angry and guilty about Sebastian, and fairly wound up over Austin as their relationship heats up (I don't blame her, I'd take him in a hot minute!) No spoilers here, but darn, it was hard to resist peeking ahead to see how it turned out. I love Jessie, love how she thinks, and the supporting cast - OMG, 'Broken Sue'? I don't know how Ms. Breene comes up with these characters, but they add so much to the story. I alternated between laughing and holding my breath. If you like fantasy with imaginative and quirky characters, a terrific and exciting story line, with plenty of heat between the main characters, you'll love this book!

BLEW ME AWAY!!! LOVE the characters!! it's WONDERFUL to read a series where the characters are so diverse, funny, warm, caring, CRAZY. Each one is so unique. And their interactions with one another are so realistic and the older ones are so INSANELY FUNNY!!!!! You never really know what that group is gonna do next!!! It's scary but I can actually relate to some of them!! This book is totally awesome with just the characters and their interactions alone. But then there's the action!!! Suspense!!! BLEW ME AWAY!!! OH and then, the new characters and what's going on with them!!!??? Actually, the entire series has been building to THIS BOOK!!!! and it does NOT disappoint!!! I couldn't put it down!! I did try so I could get some rest and start afresh so I wouldn't miss a single thing, BUT, then I couldn't sleep !! b/c I was so wound up and couldn't get it out of my mind. SO, I finished it. NOW, I'm REREADING it slower, I hope.

Just awesome! I'm so glad there's going to be at least one more book in this series. I would love for there to be so many more. I've loved these books from the first one I read back when. The characters are all so loveable in their own ways. Of course Jessie and Austin who finally are mates. Jessie has been the main character since book one. Ivy House is certainly a character as well and added to the list. Mr. Tom, Edgar and Niamh are simply too good and also there since the beginning. The addit Just awesome! The additional gargoyles, shifters, thunderbird, phoenix and basajaun make for the most incredible mix. And the mage Sebastián is the icing on the cake. These quirky individuals add so much fun to these stories. What can you say about an old vampire who crochets the worst doilies and loves his flower gardens beyond reason? Or a bigfoot (oops, basajaun) who loves to eat flowers? The eccentricities of Mr. Tom and Niamh are too numerous to mention, but they all make for a good chuckle now and then when reading the stories. I highly recommend these books.

Absolutely LOVED this book! I absolutely love this book. K.F. Breene is an amazing author and she did it again with this book. All the previous books in this series was very good and I didn’t know how she was able to top off the last one but this one is even better, if that’s even possible. There were so many funny moments that I literally laughed out loud. Her writing is so good that even the secondary characters are endearing and makes you want to know more about them. I love Jesse and Austin as a couple together. There is something to be said about a couple meeting each other when they are older and more confident & aware of themselves. This book is full of action that is exciting, interspersed with humor. I can’t wait for more books to come. There are definitely lots of plot opportunities for several more books in the series and I really hope she continues this further. I highly recommend this book, including the series. This is so good, I plan to read it at least once a year. A must read. 10 stars!

Doesn't disappoint I read the first book due to curiosity. I read the rest of the series because the writing and storytelling was so good. There they face intrigue, danger, mages, and more battling for their very lives. And yes if you have read the previous books Jessie and Austin FINALLY give in and finish the mating slide. I am ready for the next book now. This series is best reading in order though they could be read as a stand alone. There are new characters and facts added with each book that continue on to the next book.

Love a good showing off I made the mistake of looking at the number of pages before reading this and I saw how much less there was... and I tried not to let it influence my experience of reading. It didn’t, for the most part, as I ultimately agreed that the number of pages were perfect for the point that needed to be said. Mainly that they were going to meet with Elliot Graves and be done with it. A small part of me will always feel like this could’ve been added to the last installment, but I kno Love a good showing off I made the mistake of looking at the number of pages before reading this and I saw how much less there was... and I tried not to let it influence my experience of reading. A small part of me will always feel like this could’ve been added to the last installment, but I know it would’ve made it the biggest of the series and, in part, would’ve given Elliot the spotlight more than whatever the spotlight was for the last book. I did think the last book ended a little weirdly, though, so I don’t know. Long review short, I liked this. It was entertaining, didn’t linger (unless people kept TALKING AND TALKING) and it was hot, action-packed and attention-holding. I loved the trials and watching Jessie show up all the players and it’s a recommended read.

Loooooved it. Only issue: mating claim finally happened after the “damsel-in-distress” girl-needs-rescuing moment. Hate that shit. You wanna show that Jacinta’a gargoyle needed ironclad proof of her potential mate’s commitment, do it in another fucking way. Jessie is so strong, and that was super annoying and rather degrading, not to mention goes against everything we’ve been told to believe about her power. She couldn’t get out of rope? Yeah right. The melt-down insecurity before getting on the airplane the first time was also pretty out of character. Scared/nervous/uncertain, sure. But the level it went to felt very weak-fmc moment, a la Reese Witherspoon’s line in her speech where the fmc turns to the big strong man and says “Oh no, what do we do now?!” Fuck that shit. Sure, it was a vehicle for Austin to show his love and commitment to her but again, do it another fucking way. Those two things really frustrated me but the overall story was so well done, it still hits a 4.5.

I adore this series! I'm usually not a fan of more than three books in a series as they usually lose my interest or the plot is so diluted the story becomes dull and acts as filler and fluff. Those flames are getting hotter in each book and I'm here for it! I cannot wait to see how this story ends eventually... doesn't need to be anytime soon though! I'm eagerly awaiting the next book!

Hilarious! This book was as good if not better than the first book. There were some really funny situations and very witty dialogue. I love that the basajuan has a flatulence problem. I was glad that some of the problems I had with Elliot Graves/Sebastion's perceived previous actions and choices were addressed and cleared up. It helped clarify Elliot Grave's morality and ethics from Sebastion's. This will go a long way in helping me (the reader) understand, start to trust and eventually bond with Sebastion. 4.5

I hadn't actually planned to read the entire book in one sitting, but here we are the following morning gulping massive amounts of coffee to stay awake. That said...oh my god! This series gets better with each book in it! Meeting was just so full of magic! It was entrancing, and I just couldn't have asked for a better story. The power they hold in their differences is incredibly satisfying, especially as they're underestimated. It's a bold next step in Jessie's story and I am 100% here for it!

Hells Bells that was amazing! I was so happy when she finally claimed her mate, and made everyone uncomfortable (i literally laughed out loud and the pacing and tension) Niamh will always be my spirit animal that women cracks me up, and I don’t know how I would feel if she became a sappy mess (I would probably cry in my whisky and ask the Queen why)! I do hope she gets some shifter action ha!

Magical Midlife Meeting feels like a real treat. After 4 books of a deliciously slow build up, we get to reap the rewards of our patience. Personal growth, story arc and romantic development make significant progress in this installment and will alter the game play for the next books to come. As always, KF Breene tells the story with plenty of humour and heart. The personalities of the characters, their relationships and interactions never fail to make me smile.
