My hatred for Tatiana has increased tenfold🙂🔪 Other people might go through the world uncertain and alone, but not Matthew: now wherever he wandered, whenever he called out, there would be an answer. He would never walk anywhere alone. Im crying -- please Cassie, DONT. KILL. MATTHEW. This was perfect. Beautiful. Heartbreaking. I'm totally fine. I want Chain of Iron even moree ahhhhh also, tell me this isnt just adorable🥺 My hatred for Tatiana has increased tenfold🙂🔪 Other people might go through the world uncertain and alone, but not Matthew: now wherever he wandered, whenever he called out, there would be an answer. For a moment, Alastair looked lost, hesitant. It had been a long time since Cordelia had seen an expression so open on his face. Then he slammed shut like an iron gate. “We’re all of us alone,” he said. “In the end.” ⇢Ragnor’s Letter to Magnus This was cute and fun! I love how Ragnor described all of the TLH crew, particularly Christopher! ⇢A Lightwood Christmas Carol Gideon and Will’s friendship was the absolute best! I love how Ragnor described all of the TLH crew, particularly Christopher! ⇢A Lightwood Christmas Carol Gideon and Will’s friendship was the absolute best! It was sweet to see Gideon so concerned about Thomas’ health, and I definitely hate Tatiana more after all she said about Sophie. ⇢Lucie and Ghosts A sweet and short story! I love all of Jessamine and Lucie’s interactions and this one was no different. I also liked that little Jesse reference at the end ;) ⇢Lucie and Cordelia I LOVE LUCIE AND CORDELIA’S FRIENDSHIP SO MUCH. I also love the nickname Daisy for Cordelia, and it was cute to see how that name originated! ⇢Cordelia and Alastair Cordelia and Alastair’s relationship is everything. There are so many great sibling friendships in TSC, and theirs is definitely one I want to see more of. And of course, hearing Alastair recount his experiences at the Academy was as sad as it was to hear in Chain of Gold :( ⇢The Anniversary Party I loved this! It was cool to see Cordelia meet some of the main TLH characters for the first time and to see James interact with Alastair before attending the Academy with him. ⇢The Devil Tavern I had always wondered how James got the Merry Thieves’ meeting spot at The Devil Tavern and this story answered that question! Of course, loved the Merry Thieves content. ⇢The City of Bones This was so cute, but also bittersweet, just like all the stories that take place before the incident that changed Matthew. It was nice to see him so happy, but sad when you think of how his life would change soon… ⇢Christopher THIS WAS TOO CUTE. We all know that Christopher loves his experiments and inventions, and it was so interesting to see how that came about! ICON: “Who do you think is the Shadowhunter who has saved the most lives, boy?” “I suppose you think it’s your papa.” “No,” said Christopher after a moment’s thought. “I would say my Uncle Henry.” The Inquisitor appeared thunderstruck. “I performed an analysis,” Christopher said peacefully. “If Uncle Henry had not invented the Portal, there is a strong possibility that our numbers would be less by a third. I believe you yourself would have died nine years ago, during the Dantalion attack on the York Institute. Since Portals will exist long after uncle Henry is dead, I expect he will end up having saved more lives than any other Shadowhunter, including Jonathan Shadowhunter. Unless I can invent something which will be as useful. Which naturally I aspire to do.” ⇢Overall This was such a cute collection of stories! There are always so many small details and scenes that can’t make it into the main books that you wish you could see, and these short stories answered so many of those questions! . ⋅ ˚̣- : ✧ : – ⭒ ❦ ⭒ – : ✧ : -˚̣⋅ . A very nice introduction to the characters of Chain of Gold! It's best to read it before that book so that you get to know exactly who is who, that will prevent any confusion. A free collection that was available via Cassandra Clare's newsletter. A collection of snippets set before the events of 'Chain of Iron', it was a fun and quick read. You aren't really missing out on anything if you don't read this, but I liked it. A free collection that was available via Cassandra Clare's newsletter. I‘m a little emotional and very soft right now, so I‘m just randomly listing reasons why this was amazing and has added ten years to my life, instead of writing an actual review: ✅ little James sitting on Will‘s shoulders ✅ ’christmas miracles’ ✅ the TID squad being good old friends ✅ James being a softie ✅ Cordelia Carstair‘s being a queen ✅ seeing Cordelia‘s and Lucie‘s friendship grow ✅ a great insight on Lucie‘s relationship with ghosts ✅ Matthew Fairchild being the love of my life ✅ the origin of The Merry Thieves ✅ absolute gorgeous illustrations ... and literally so much more, but part of my brain is busy anxiously worrying about the well-being of my baby Matthew because if something happens to him, I will RIOT (and cry ... like ... a lot) 𝘐 𝘥𝘰 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘸𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘓𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘸𝘰𝘰𝘥𝘴, 𝘊𝘢𝘳𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘳𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘏𝘦𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘢𝘭𝘦𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘣𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘢𝘮𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘳 𝘴𝘢𝘭𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘤𝘭𝘢𝘷𝘦, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘭𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘣𝘦 𝘢 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘦. So it's nice to finally have all of the bonus stories for The Last Hours all in one place, with some even more bonus content added to the mix. Ragnor's Letter to Magnus I have to say that I love how crazy and ridiculous Ragnor and Magnus' friendship is and is honestly one of my favorites. I love how he continues to complain about the shenanigans of the Shadowhunters - especially the ones at the academy. "There is also the question of the Lightwoods. Do not ask me which Lightwoods belong to which branch of the family, for I do not know and have little interest in finding out. I find London to be overly blessed with Lightwoods." Ragnor with the Lightwoods in TLH is me with the Blackthorns in TDA because there's just too many and I don't care A Lightwood Christmas Carol, Part 1 I must say I can't help but wonder if Benedict was emotional abusive and manipulative towards Tatiana as a kid after reading this. I don't know, but has to be something there for her to be like this. Also, I still don't really care about Will. A Lightwood Christmas Carol, Part 2 Alright, so Will finally treating Gideon like family is something very dear to me but at the same time, I don't give a shit about Will. It does hurt my soul seeing Gideon so distraught about Thomas being sick Lucie and Ghosts It was a cute little addition to see how Lucie came to see and interact with ghosts. Lucie and Cordelia I would die for these two. Cordelia and Alastair Honestly Alastair was a dick to Cordelia after the Academy for like no reason. The Anniversary Party Of course James would be hiding in the library reading during a party and of course Cordelia would be the one to find him. The Devil Tavern It was nice to get the little backstory on how the Merry Thieves came to have their room about the Devil's Tavern. The City of Bones, 1900 Don't mind me, I'm just bawling reading about James and Matthew's Parabatai ceremony. London, Grosvenor Place, 1901 Who the fuck is the golden haired, green eyed prince???? Christopher Christopher my favorite boy and Henry, my favorite man. I need more of these two and more insight to their experiments because I love them so much. Lucie's letter to Cordelia I'm sorry but there's no way Lucie is straight and no way she doesn't have some feelings for Cordelia.

They were careful; they were Shadowhunters; but they were still children who could easily set a foot wrong, and eventually, Lucie did. Laughing at something Cordelia had said, she stepped back into open air and, overbalancing, began to tumble from the edge of a high cliff This was a fun set of stories to read and discusses some of the intimate relationships between some of the protagonists of the Last Hours series. The one with Will and Gideon was among my favourites, as it shows that Tatiana Blackthorn was still scarred from the loss of her father, husband and now her son. My favourite was the one discussing the friendship between Cordelia and Lucie—and how they first discussed becoming parabatai. One of these stories was there within Chain of Gold, which I didn't enjoy as much as I would've like to, to be honest. But it did reveal a bit on Alastair's character—how he was going through a sort of 'phase' teenage boys went through. This was an interesting read, and got me all hyped up for Chain of Iron's release! I read these as individual stories last week, but Cassie just sent them in a pdf format with extra letters for the characters, so I will read those now! The Devil Tavern : I love the Merry Thieves so much and this was such a wholesome story about how they found the Devil Tavern. I'm gonna read all the little Chain of Gold extras because I can't wait for Chain of Iron. Days Past 1 : That was so sweet! Daisy and Lucie have such a cute friendship, I love it! I actually feel so bad for him, he's made some really awful decisions but he deserves so much better. The City of Bones : “But I must point out that I’m not marrying James. Though I would be a vision in bridal lace.” I love Matthew so much holy fuck. Lucie and Ghosts : I'm so curious about ghosts in the shadow world. I can't wait to learn more about Jessie! Christmas Carol part 1 : Ooooo more Tatiana and Jesse backstory, I love that! Christmas Carol part 2 : I am flying through these extra shadowhunters stories today! But Will is so funny, I had missed him so much. Anniversary party part 1 : Lucie has such a fun energy in this book, I loved seeing her introduce Cordelia to all the characters we know and love! Her father's illness is very strange... I wonder if we'll learn more about it soon! Anniversary party part 2 : James was so hopeful at the end of this story... Oh boy was he wrong :( Oh my godd, the letter Ragnor wrote to Magnus was so fun to read! Does this mean Mangus will be in Chain of Iron... :)

I'm so very glad Cassie publishes these little novellas. I really appreciated We Jace you a Clary Xmas , but I much prefer The Last Hours over The Mortal Instruments, so I'm even happier about The Penultimate Hours. I was not in fact all that interested in reading Chain of Gold prior to its release, which is why I did not keep up with the extra content Cassie published before it came out. Therefore, this was my very first time reading most of these short stories. You see, like Chain of Go I'm so very glad Cassie publishes these little novellas. Therefore, this was my very first time reading most of these short stories. You see, like Chain of Gold itself, they are more character- than plot-driven. Personally, I'm absolutely in love with the cast of The Last Hours, so I was happy to get more background information about them. I get that this might not be everyone's cup of tea, but it's certainly mine. I'm often hesitant to give short stories very high ratings, as they are inherently unable to provide the depth I personally need to consider something an excellent read. However, I love these characters a lot and had a great time reading all the snippets. Plus, Cassie literally sent this to her newsletter subscribers for free, so I'm just going to go ahead and give it five stars. Sue me.

I loved all the Cordelia and Lucie moments! And the Alstair ant Thomas moments moments made me very sad. Tatania...that shit....but Will still convinced her with all his charm! He was awesome as usual. Cant say the same about his son James though...I don't seem to like him that much, dk why. I THINK I JUST FOUND OUT MATTHEWS SECRET! I'm pretty sure i have it right, but I can't understand why it was in a novella type of thing, and not in the actual books...perhaps this is just a hint...idk. This was a really nice, heartwarming collection of short stories.. A glimpse into the precious lives of the younger people of the Herondale, Castairs, Lightwood and Fairchild families... I can't decide who is my favorite yet from this younger lot but I definitely know who I hate the most --- Tatiana is the worst and I wouldn't mind if she died. 😡 This was a really nice, heartwarming collection of short stories..
