Advanced Reader Review. Let me start off by saying I loved this book! As a mum of 2 in current homeschooling lockdown madness, I managed to whizz through Of blood and Fire because I couldn't put it down. I laughed and cried with the characters, felt every moment with them. I won't give anything away as I don't want to spoil anything for you. For me, Cahill is definitely an author I will look out for. I would say he could sit comfortably on the shelf with Gemmell, Feist, Sanderson and Jordan. The Advanced Reader Review. Let me start off by saying I loved this book! If you're a fan of LOTR or WOT that you will enjoy Of Blood And Fire. Small-town boy and his friends gets entangled in something they had not expected and have to leave home and take a journey. The world they live in feel fully thought out and realised in this first installment. The action and progression of the story feel just right for most of the book. There are one or two scenes that I felt could have moved a little faster, but this is more than likely just me. The action is good too and there is no shortage of it either, if that is your thing. There are two standout things for me in this book: 1) The magic system I loved the magic system, although its potential is not fully explored within this book, but I love the fact that it is not a strict hard system or a "handwavium" soft system but sits somewhere between the two. Closer to the hard side but with enough wiggle room to allow for very skilled individuals to do some seemingly impossible things. 2) The relationship between the three principal charactersCalen, Rist and Dann are all different but good friends none the less. Their journey through this story shows how much they care for one another and how they are each the crutch that the others need at different times. Last thing I will say is that the ending really landed for me. Often books like this have a climax that could be seen as an ending but is really just the middle of a larger book. This first book felt like it had a solid ending and it really worked well.

This was intense! Cahill is a world-building master, a story weaver of magical proportions. Of Blood and Fire has such intriguing concepts, and a plot that snakes its way into your soul. There was so much to love in the pages of this book that its hard to pick out just one thing to talk about here. I mean, between fascinating characters, epic adventure, and beautifully detailed landscapes and places, how can a reader gush excitedly over one more than the other? I don't want to write an essay on h This was intense! Cahill is a world-building master, a story weaver of magical proportions. I don't want to write an essay on how much fun I had getting lost in Cahill's world, but I will say that if you are a fan of fantasy and adventure, give this one a go for yourself.

I dont think I can describe how much I loved this story and got lost in the world that Cahill has created. The world was described brilliantly I was able to imagine being there with Calen and the other characters. I got invested in Calens story and was always suprised with what happened on the next page. I also thought the magic is very interesting the fact it takes your strength which is very much shown when Calen starts using it. I can't wait for future books in this story I want to know what h I dont think I can describe how much I loved this story and got lost in the world that Cahill has created.
