This one turned out so good. I really loved and got into it. I have no idea which fairytale this is a retelling of though. If anyone knows please let me know cause it's driving me crazy. She's immature and makes lots of mistakes. But I love that about her. Even her darker side, and compared to the books about the sisters before her, she has a much darker side. It makes her so real and kinda relatable. I truly love Maeve. How I choose my rating: 1* Didn't like it at all. These are rare as I usually just don't finish any book I dislike this much. 2** Didn't like it. Again usually DNF if I dislike it this much, but occasionally I feel it still has potential and I try to stick with it to the end. 3*** I liked it. It wasn't great but it was enjoyable enough. It is unlikely I'll ever reread it but I'll probably finish the series if it is a part of one. 4**** I really liked this book. Maybe not a work of genius, but highly entertaining. I might reread this at some point, and I will finish the series if part of one. 5***** I loved this book. I found little to no issues with it at all. I will probably reread this and possibly more than once. I will finish the series if it's part of one.

I am beside myself with how this book went. There was so much emotion. Maeve has to overcome so much. I am not sure if she will ever recover. She puts up a hard fight. You are going to love this book. Just like the other ones. Each sister has to over come their flaws. There are some strong life lessons in here. I hope everyone likes this book as much as I did.

I loved this book and finished it in a day I couldn't put it down. I really liked Maeve and learning more about her shifter self. I also loved that this book had lots of past characters and we got to see more of them. My favorite is Rosalie familiar. I loved seeing him again and hope to see him again in future books.. I also loved Violet. I even enjoyed Aspen more in this book which I didn't think would be possible. I love when a book changes my mind on characters and you grow to love them. Maeve’s story is a incredible journey of love and forgiveness. I don’t know how the author continues to pull these stories from. Each installment gets better and better. Maeve is such a strong character. Her temper sometimes gets the best of her, but without that there would be just a ordinary character. What we get is a extraordinary main character who fights for what she believes in and those she loves. We see Allemar in this installment and it was a incredible show. This book was a fun and exhilarating ride. The fifth installment doesn’t disappoint and I binged it less than 24 hours. It was so good and unputdownable!!

I bow to the queen! Chanda Hahn has done it again. I was so excited for Maeve’s story and Hahn did not disappoint. I highly recommend it and it’s definitely become a favorite of mine. Pitted against the Eville sisters as a pawn in Allemar’s fight for power and revenge. Lost and broken with no hope, we learn the reason for his downfall and only Hahn can make you love the villain. If ever there was a redemption arc, it’s Aspen’s.

This book is incredible and a must read in my opinion. I loved being back in this world. Chanda Hahn did an outstanding job with this story from beginning to end. His face red, he raised his hand as if he were going to strike me. um, seriously? I can understand being angry when she poured hot soup on him. But he was mocking her like an asshole. And anyway, raising hand on her? Problematic. Big turn off. “I’m sure there is a reason for you to have come into my room half-naked.” “I’m clothed,” I argued. “Half-clothed. And a lesser man would have already taught you a lesson for barging in wearing next to nothing.” Excuse me? What's up with this??? So she was in her night clothes and he thinks her dressing would make men take liberates and make assumptions?? Yes, knocking is important but this dialogue oh god! TAUGHT her a lesson?! How?? Hit her? Kiss her? Rape her? I mean that would vary man to man I suppose then? Like her clothing allows them to do anything they like? I hate to point out but this what rape apologists say. I can't believe I read this shit in a book. I'm appalled at the thinking. Then this dialogue: Was he going to kiss me? I held my breath as he leaned down and whispered into my ear. “Maeve, not every man has as strong as a resolve as I do. Don’t come into my room again, or else I can’t guarantee the outcome . . . or your safety.” Nope. Consent, bro? I agree she should've knocked but ugh this dialogue implying somehow he can't control himself over her clothing? You SHOULD guarantee her safety no matter what state of dress she is in! I get it they have attraction going on and this dialogue might seem sexy (I guess to our heroine) but nope, this is seriously problematic and giving men's desires "excuses". Plus, not every man has resolve as he does? Like how the hell is this shit sensible? What is being promoted? They are supposed to have resolve! Will he justify another man not being able to control his "resolve" and making sexual advances just bcs of her clothing? Ugh.

Fantastic and an amazing next book in this fairy tale series As the fifth book in the series and picking up where the last left off, the story started off fast and hard. Impulsive, insolent, and rash, Maeve creates trouble from beginning to end. Even with good intentions, it always seems to lead to more hurt and heartache for those around her. But what she doesn't know is she is being used to control the waning shifter clans who have been hunted and hated for decades. And only she, with the help of a few friends, her sisters, and the gorgeous but confusing Aspen, can hope to defeat the mighty sorcerer. But possibly at the expense of her heart. This book started off fast-paced. By the middle, I was slightly confused about how everything was connected and what all of the events were moving us toward. However, the twists at the end were satisfying and had me realizing the signs I missed as I read. This one was a little darker than the others and had me crying in the end as Maeve had to face her self-hatred and past mistakes. Beautifully woven, witty, and heartbreaking, this was one of my favorites in the series. And I think everyone can relate to making rash decisions and having to see the unexpected consequences of them, as well as the struggle of forgiving yourself when all you see is bad in yourself. So good, so worth it, and a fantastic continuation to this story.

The fifth in this series picks up right where the fourth ended. While her family thinks her dead, Maeve is in a far worse state. Maeve has been trapped in her raven form by evil sorcerer Allemar. He holds her hostage this way, hoping to wear her down and force her to accept an apprenticeship, binding her to him and his dark magic. Finally her survival instincts force her to accept his bond, but Maeve is powerful in her own right and will surely be an unexpected match for him. Finally her survival instincts force her to accept his bond, but Maeve is powerful in her own right and will surely be an unexpected match for him. Left alone with Aspen, Allemar’s other apprentice, fallen Prince of Florin, and Rosalie’s brother, as well as Velora, the mermaid who can never return to the sea, they form a family of sorts. He works to train her, using their bond to stop her from leaving, while they travel across the lands together. When they end up back in Florin, just in time for a tournament put her by Rosalie and her husband, Maeve knows it’s no coincidence. Among shifters like herself for the first time, Maeve begins to learn more about herself and more about Aspen. When the shifters become victims of someone’s evil spells, Maeve knows she must work to find the murderer before it’s too late. But while her feelings for him have changed, she can’t help but wonder if Aspen is somehow involved. I really enjoyed this book. Maeve is a relatable character, who has flaws and is working to be better. It was also great to see the other side of Aspen, and hear his story.

I loved this one! It was a pleasant surprise. I have loved most of Chanda Hahn's books. My favourite series being The Unfortunate Fairy Tales. Throughout these stories of the Daughter's of Eville up until this, Rosalie's was my favourite. Some of the others just didn't quite entrap me like some of Hahn's other stories but I was sure pulled into Maeve's story. Maeve has always been the daughter that did what she wanted regardless of the consequences. She is opinionated and headstrong but when she I loved this one! It was a pleasant surprise. I was surprised at Aspen most of all. After reading this story that had so much focus on him I want to re-read the others to see his parts. I remember a moment in Of Thorn and Thread where I kind of liked him even knowing he was the bad guy. And yes who doesn't love a bad guy with a tragic backstory and a good heart. Also this story gave me "The Cruel Prince" feels by Holly Black another favourite. With all the "I hate you" which grows to mean something else ;) I loved seeing Rosalie and Xander as well. We get a glimpse of Rhea which means she'll have the next story I'm sure. And since it sounds like a King Midas or Rumpelstiltskin I'm all in!

I’m not sure that this is a retelling, well the Wild Swans do make an appearance but it’s a side character, but it does go on to continue the story of the next Eville sister, Maeve after she dies/gets kidnapped in the last book. She travels with Aspen, Valora, and Marco, who work for Allemar, to Florin kingdom to do Allemar’s bidding, and Maeve gets tricked into doing blood magic and having to kill for him. We get to know more of Aspen and how he came to be under Allemar, and how Maeve and Aspen’s banter among other things as they slowly fell for each other. I was left wondering about Maeve’s family since it wasn’t really explored, other than that King Adler was her great uncle which would somehow make her related to Aspen and Rosalie? (Maybe I read that wrong) Either way, with Allemar gone, it makes me wonder what the next book Of Gold and Greed is going to be about. Of course with Rosalie, Eden, Meri, Aura, and Maeve already having their stories, we know just need Rhea and Honor to have their HEAs which I am looking forward to.

Mauve’s story was the one I looked forward to the most from this series. Her character is very bold and strong willed. She doesn’t fit in a mold and can often be looked at as selfish but in this book you see incredible growth. I love that these books really tackle bullying and embracing your difference. Sister Maeve an extremely stubborn, resilient young lady. Easily one of the strongest and most protective of the sisters. Refuses to give up and do what it takes to make things right. With each book in this series, I find myself drawn in further to the lives of the Eville sisters. Although this could be read as a standalone book, it is much easier to understand the context if read in order in the series. In this book, I found a lot of parallels between real life and this fictional world. Quotes like they fear you because they don't understand you make me think of a lot of what is going on in the world with gender and race stereotypes and discrimination. There were unexpected twists and turns, especially toward the end of the book that inspired and amazed me. It is fun to not know what to expect when an author so carefully crafts a book of this type, especially when it ties into the others in the series and discusses one of the most mysterious characters introduced in the Daughters of Eville world. I think the author is particularly great at helping us get to know her characters and connecting them as she builds her worlds. I think the author is particularly great at helping us get to know her characters and connecting them as she builds her worlds. An awesome read that I would highly recommend!

Wow! What a ride. This one is a story of redemption. Those kind of stories just might be my favorite. I love cheering for characters who have clearly made mistakes and are trying to overcome their dark fate. I was so anxious to find out what happened to Maeve from Of Thorn and Thread and I was not disappointed. I don't want to give any spoilers but I was glad to see some characters return from earlier stories. You'll have to read to find out who! Wow! What a ride. This one is a story of redemption. I can’t believe I spent so long waiting for this book only to finish it in one night! I love love lovedd Maeve’s story so much and my opinion of Aspen changed so much in this book. I love how headstrong Maeve is and I think I relate to herself most out of all the sisters so far. I was so invested in this story I couldn’t put it down. It’s going to be really hard to wait for the next book but I can’t wait to see how the story will progress further.

After the last books ending, you are not going to want to hesitate on starting this one and you won’t be disappointed. Another excellent book like all the others in the series. Maeve is quite a different character from the others and it’s fun to see how that plays out in her decisions. Also really neat to get Aspen’s story and dig into his character. Fast paced, full of adventure, far creatures, murder, and mystery - you will not want to put it down!

An exciting installment in the Eville sister’s story. If you read the last book you know Maeve finds herself in an extremely difficult predicament. It is an interesting ride trying to figure out what side Maeve is truly on. She is definitely loyal to her family but she makes questionable decisions that will leave you wondering “what? why?!?” I also loved seeing some of the other sisters and their new families. This is a must read and can be read as a stand alone book. I highly recommend it!

I say this every time, but until it gets fixed, I will keep saying it: SOMEONE EDIT THESE BOOKS. Anyway, I love this series, but this wasn’t my favorite. It wasn’t the worst, but i also felt like it had the least amount of adventure and romance, as well as the most anticlimactic ending. But it was fun and I loved the nods to the fairytales as always. I think Rapunzel is up next and I’ve never been more excited for anything in my damn life. To be continued!

I feel like each book I've read in the series is the best one so far when it's released and somehow with each one that comes out, the new one takes on the title of "best." I liked Maeve for her sassiness. She has no problem giving Aspen lip, despite being under his control. It's nice to see her growth throughout the book. In the other books, you really hate Aspen, but I like that this book gives the reader a chance to get to know him and see who he really is.
