Under is the new guy in town, and proved to be someone to be reckoned with! A renegade outlaw and his crew are formidable foes for this young Deputy Sheriff to try and take out! Definitely another five star masterpiece by Mr. Slade, as he pulls no punches in his descriptive renditions of how I perceived our old American West was finally conquered! There are no slow downs throughout this compelling western masterpiece as a young Deputy Sheriff, Herschel Unger, motivated the townspeople to band together against this outlaw gang in an attempt to bring peace to their beloved hometown! Outstanding storylines throughout this compelling western folklore extravaganza and the Author's successful selection of characters were unsurpassed in their commanding assignments from beginning to end. There were a few series of nerve wracking episodes to maintain anyone's undivided attention. Most definitely recommend this compassionately motivated story to everyone, but especially to you died in the wool western folklore enthusiasts as I can assure you that you will find yourselves completely engrossed from beginning to end. Herschel will be your new western folklore hero, with all of his heartwarming episodes of unending excitement! Too you non-western enthusiasts will find yourselves completely satisfied within the first few pages of this compassionately motivated success story of a new hero on the old western frontier!!!

Reminded me why I dislike westerns Too many grammar, spelling and punctuation errors (not the intentional ones) to be enjoyable. Yes I know that seems nit-picky but that’s the way I am. The story was only so so. Only picked this book because it was short, had decent reviews and fulfilled the “western” category in my annual reading challenge. Definitely reminded me why I dislike westerns.

I like Orris Slade's books. The Cully series was great and I like this Herschel character as well. Slade's style is to show that a character can be a bad actor for the right reasons. Rather refreshing I think. I like Orris Slade's books. The Cully series was great and I like this Herschel character as well. Can an easy going gunslinger save Prescott from the likes of Buford Dobson? Dobson is buying up properties all around town, and not in a legal way. The entire town is afraid of him and his gang. When Herschel Unger bests one of his henchmen in a shoot out, he becomes a target. He also becomes Deputy Sheriff. Bringing Dobson to justice could cost Unger his life.

A yawner I never really got into this book. The characters didn't seem real, their thinking was off. I'm not sure a real person like the main character would make it to puberty.
