Before I start this review, please know that I didn't realize I was starting with Book 2 and that is on me. That being said, I am not sure reading Book 1 would have made it any easier to follow. The story revolves around Mary Nikodemski, a woman born in Ireland (please don't call her English!) who was brought to Poland by her husband Nikoda to his little farm in Lida located in the western portion of the Russian Empire. The story revolves around Mary Nikodemski, a woman born in Ireland (please don't call her English!) who was brought to Poland by her husband Nikoda to his little farm in Lida located in the western portion of the Russian Empire. The time period is the early days of the 20th century. To top it off, the people see her as cursed because of her strange language. I found that as I read this book, I needed to take notes to keep the characters straight and what they stood for/didn't stand for and whose side they were on. Again, that may be on me, since I hadn't read book 1. I found the style of writing a bit choppy and disconnected. The story just didn't flow for me.

Interesting & good historical read Very much enjoyed the historical aspects of this book. Initially surprised by the seemingly disjointed sentences. By 3rd chapter was into the rhythm of this authors writing style. Looked forward to each new chapter to see what would be happening next. Waiting for next book in this series.
