SHE TOLD A LIE is the eighth book in the ZACHARY GOLDMAN MYSTERIES series and the first one I've read which sometimes makes it hard to get into the flow of a series or story. While I don't know all the background regarding Zachary, who's a private investigator, there was enough information given to at least give me an inkling and start piecing together some of his history. While I don't know all the background regarding Zachary, who's a private investigator, there was enough information given to at least give me an inkling and start piecing together some of his history. His girlfriend, Kenzie, and he are just getting back together and it was interesting to see how they approached the relationship from different angles. While they don't seem like they would fit, she was good for him. Zachary grew up in foster care and has a lot of demons. He has to quiet his mind in order to grasp things especially those with nuances. He tries hard and has various people by his side to help keep him grounded and to talk things through with. The story has a plot about sex trafficking and their targets and my heart was racing or in my mouth throughout a good part of it. Zachary is willing to help the teen involved in the situation when others aren't. There were a lot of twists and turns with characters who have a depth to them. His friend Rhys is multifaceted and adds another layer to the story. The story had a nice pace and there were a lot of actions and reactions. The story was well written and there was intrigue, criminal acts, bad guys, a mystery to solve and people to interview and interact with. There was a preview of HE NEVER FORGOT, the next book in the series, that is a nice continuation of SHE TOLD A LIE which promises to answer a lot of questions where this book left off since even with the epilogue the book ended abruptly. Ms. Workman is an author whose books I'm enjoying in a variety of series but haven't yet started with a first book in any of them. I look forward to reading more of her books since I've enjoyed all the ones I've read so far. I rated the book 4.5 stars but rounded to 5 stars on Goodreads.

Zac is back! Zachary Goldman is many things. He is dysfunctional, traumatized, often depressed, and a bit neurotic, but he is also a brilliant and tenacious private investigator whose dogged determination to resolve his client’s issues guarantee that his exploits are always a pleasure to read. This book finds our diffident and unassuming protagonist thrust into the path of a dangerous human trafficking ring when, as a favor for a friend, he investigates the disappearance of a young girl. This book finds our diffident and unassuming protagonist thrust into the path of a dangerous human trafficking ring when, as a favor for a friend, he investigates the disappearance of a young girl. The police prove to be of little help in the case, in fact, Zachary determines that some of them may actually be complicit with the traffickers. Bullets will fly, blood will be shed, and lives will be changed. This is a great read filled with suspense and tension. It showcases the tragic and compelling truth about an undeniably shameful practice that too few people recognize as a current issue. The story is rife with exceptional and diverse characters who each contribute their own unique voice to the narrative. I can’t wait to see what the author has in store for Zachary next. I was provided with an advance copy of this book but I am voluntarily offering my honest and unbiased review.

I received a review copy from the author at my request and this is my honest opinion. PD Workman has another winner on her hands!! I love all of the Zachary Goldman stories, but I think this is my favorite because I got to spend more time with Rhys, one of my favorite characters in the series. To me, Rhys is the perfect example of how well Ms. Workman understands human nature and the effects of tragedy on the human psyche. Yet, with all of her apparent experience with the worst side of the human experience, she continues to create characters who are hopeful, caring, and resilient. It is difficult to feel sorry for oneself after reading one of Ms. Workman's books because her characters face all types of challenges in their lives with a determination to do the very best they can. If you haven't read any of the Zachary Goldman books you need to correct that omission as soon as possible. They are all terrific!

Scary crazy good I think 4 stars because it could have been more polished up in the proof reading, but I did really enjoy reading it. I’m really pleased to say that although this was a hard hitting, often hard reading topic, it is completely clean of swearing and other bad language that I find some authours use to make characters sound tough or bad or whatever. This story is so good, the plot so well thought out and written, no bad language is needed to make this seem serious or dangerous, just go Scary crazy good I think 4 stars because it could have been more polished up in the proof reading, but I did really enjoy reading it. The characters are very engaging, once I started I couldn’t stop reading till I finished. It does have a good very positive ending in many of the areas and characters involved in the story. I recommend everyone read PD Workman’s writing, it’s good.

A popular high school girl. A sudden disappearance. A case of puppy love. Zachary Goldman takes on a case for his friend that leads him away from the sweet innocence of a crush into the harsh reality of a teenage runaway. This story is not for the faint of heart; while the absolute gritty details are mostly kept from the reader, Zachary Goldman takes us into a world that no one should ever inhabit. P.D. Workman has crafted an excellent story, but it is extremely uncomfortable to read.

Zachary’s young friend asks for his help locating a missing friend. Finding her is just the tip of the iceberg. This novel is brilliantly powerful. The writing is skillful, with a wonderfully complex plot and well-developed characters. Highly recommended! I received this book free and chose to make a voluntary, unbiased review.

This was a different kind of PI story. It took a little for me to get into it because I hadn't read any of the previous books in the series so I didn't really understand some of it. But it picked up and now I want to go back and start from the beginning. This was a different kind of PI story. A very well written story, easy to read with a clear timeline and fantastic characters. It isn't the most extensive plot, but more than makes up for that in dealing with several human problems in an excellent manner.
