Lauren opened the card, expecting to see a congratulatory message about her upcoming wedding. But, inside was a photograph of a doll in a torn wedding dress, her neck cut. The strange things that happen to Lauren are intriguing, though over the top but they do make you want to gallop on to see if your ideas are correct. There’s betrayal, plenty of suspects as a number of protagonists are being very devious and covering things up. There is some suspense but I would have liked more! I like the Thailand setting for part of the story which adds colour and warmth (!) to the proceedings. However, the second half doesn’t work as well for me as the first as it’s easy to work out the perpetrator so there are no huge surprises. The plot twists become predictable and clear to see. The end is overdone, overly dramatic and feels like the cliche end of a bad soap opera! Adam is not likeable and I can’t understand why he’s regarded as such a ladies man and a catch as he’s such a coward! The characters are a bit one dimensional and none of them are conveyed particularly strongly. The style of writing is a bit flat and impersonal and it might have been more dramatic and tense if written in the first person. However, overall, despite having a number of reservations I did enjoy it despite its predictability. It’s escapist reading so perfect for lockdown and on the plus side you can vicariously enjoy a trip to Thailand! With thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the arc for an honest review.

Because nothing, absolutely nothing is as it seems. I had a lot of fun reading it, it was full of unreliable narrators and twists and red herrings and, and ... After a very dramatic prologue which foreshadows danger ahead we go back a little while to get the full story. Lauren Haywood (35, an A&E doctor) is due to get married to Dr Adam Glenister, a GP. But strange and unsettling things start to happen. She gets a card with the same picture she has chosen for the invites. Inside, the stark message “he doesn’t love you” screams at her! That’s just the start. Things escalate and get darker and soon she is wondering if Adam is having an affair. The loving couple is due to get married in a church that had special significance to Lauren’s parents who died 18 years ago in a white water rafting jolly in Thailand. But that, too, comes undone. She is also about to meet her sister, Tracey, for the first time since the funeral. She and Tracey have been estranged since then and Lauren is keen to set things right and reconcile with her sister. At the same time it is clear that Adam has not been entirely honest with her about his past among other things. It is fun watching Adam tie himself in knots trying to wriggle out of fessing up to a number of things. How will this end? The wedding is moved to Thailand where her sister owns a luxury resort hotel. And that is when things start to get seriously twisted. Reading my notes back I can see where I jumped from one conclusion to another. All I can say is - don’t count your chickens! This was a sometimes light and frothy read but it had plenty of darker moments. The pace was fast and consistent throughout. The characters were a little cliched but served the purpose for the story they were written into. It got a little far fetched as it went on but I think that’s the nature of the genre. You are never meant to take this sort of story seriously! All in all I thoroughly enjoyed it and will be keen to see what this author comes up with next. This book will appeal to thriller lovers and those who enjoy a psychological drama. Thanks to, Netgalley, Bookouture and Ruth Heald for providing a copy for review. My opinions are my own. I give this one 4 solid stars.

The plot kept me engaged until the end and the writing style flowed really effortlessly. If I didn't have so much going on this week, I think I could've easily devoured this book in a day or two. Lauren is a relatable character and you can't help but empathize with her and root for her. The tension build-up was great and I enjoyed watching the mystery unravel. The culprit wasn't a surprise but overall it didn't take away my enjoyment of the story. I do have to say though, I have no idea what Lauren saw in Adam. He was a liar and a coward and I think she deserved better. I would have been just as happy if she had left him in the end. All in all, this was an entertaining and gripping thriller. I definitely recommend it. Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Lauren & Adam are both horrible characters. I prefer my MC's to be strong, capable people, sprinkled with secrets. I just couldn't take their naivety seriously; way too over the top. The plot itself is pretty good, but I had trouble getting past their ignorance. Thanks to NetGalley & Bookouture for my DRC. Lauren & Adam are both horrible characters. I would suggest you do not read this book if you’re in the middle of planning your wedding. Talk about a wedding gone wrong. Anyways Lauren is happily planning her wedding when she receives a card with the words “he does not love you“ written on it. There is also a creepy doll that resembles Lauren with a slashed up wedding dress. This is followed up by missing phones, miscommunications, doubts, and secrets. Not only was I questioning if Lauren and Adam would ever say “I do“, I was questioning if they should. This was an addictive fast paced story. The narrative bounced between past and present. Lauren is a very likable character and you really want her to have her big day. Adam on the other hand, I still am not quite sure about him. There was a large cast of secondary characters and I was seriously suspicious of all of them at one point or another. But I do have to say at about 75% I was pretty certain of the culprit. Even though I knew the who I wasn’t quite sure why until it was revealed. I’m still not sure how I feel about the end it was slightly over the top. A fun read with some pretty wild twists. It gets to the point without a lot of extra baggage (i.e., long, detailed descriptions, long winded narrative, etc.). The plot is engaging and they storyline is interesting. I do not usually mind this if I am having fun with the book. This read like a tv movie for me. It was dramatic, had some danger, some suspense, some over the top moments, and was enjoyable and entertaining. I enjoyed this fast delightful read that I did not want to put down. The premise was intriguing and I was also attracted to the book because of its cover. The plot starts off very well, there is a suspense in the air as to what is happening and who is responsible for trying to scare Lauren. Every character comes across as unreliable and as a suspect with a ulterior motive, the most unlikable of all being Adam. But as the plot progresses, even though there are constant events and twists to keep up the suspense, there was a lack of a surprise element. I found it too predictable and easy to figure out who was the culprit. Nevertheless, it's a good book to choose for a quick and fun weekend read! Thank You NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC!

With just a few weeks left for the wedding, disturbing events begin to take place making them realise that someone is out to sabotage their wedding. As the D-day draws closer, Lauren, no longer able to trust Adam, is at a crossroads - whether to go ahead with the marriage or not. But the more important question is whether she would live long enough to even have a wedding. I devoured this story in a single sitting - it was that unputdownable. I liked that the author started the story with the climax, throwing the reader head first into the plot, that there was no way to surface without completing the entire book. The suspense build-up was simply awesome. I think I may have developed a case of paranoia while reading, as I was intensely scrutinising every single word, action, and twitch of each character - even Adam's mum - to figure out who the stalker was. The plot was so well-written; I swear I could feel Lauren's unease and fear as my own. While I sympathised with Lauren, I didn't care much for Adam. By the end of the book, I was rooting for Lauren to cut her losses and walk away from the mess that was Adam. The Wedding by Ruth Heald was an intense and compelling page-turner. The pace was perfect; the alternate POVs and the flashbacks kept me hooked and the end reveal was jaw-dropping. I loved the book and I highly recommend it. Under normal circumstances, all this would be appealing, but with the disasters leading up to the wedding, these factors intensify an already stressful situation. The cast of characters is diverse and well-crafted. Heald has spent time stepping into the shoes of each character so that her writing evokes empathy for each member of the bridal party. When each guest in turn is suspect, I wanted to grab the protagonist and tell her why it couldn’t be that guest and provide the reasons why. When the villain was finally revealed, I was more shocked at why they did it than who they were. In retrospect, the author had set up the villain so that there was an understandable reason for the behaviour. She’d also foreshadowed the desperate need for the villain to remove anyone in the path to success. Heald’s twists and turns jolted me and shocked me when I least expected it. She has deftly explored the psychology behind what drives people to violence, destruction and revenge. It’s because of her well-honed writing skill that, although this is my first of her novels, I will be eagerly searching for her other books. This is definitely worth keeping on your radar come publication date, March 03, 2021. Thank you to Ruth Heald, Bookouture and NetGalley for this superb advance copy in exchange for my honest review.

Loved the writing - predictable plot. Lauren and Adam have known each other since childhood- family friends with vacations. Including the tragic death of Lauren's parents. Lauren is getting married to Adam who she has known all her life. Just weeks before the wedding she receives a disturbing card saying "he doesn't love you". More strange things begin to happen after that. Who exactly doesn't want them to get married? I liked the characters even if I didn't like their choices. There were so many possible suspects, each with their own motives. Keeps you guessing until the end. I really enjoyed this. Main character Lauren was so believable and I could really empathise with her when it became clear that someone was targeting her and her wedding. I'm not quite sure what she saw in Adam as although he was a well written character, he was also spineless and kept a lot of secrets from someone he was supposed to love. My only issue with the book was that to me it was very obvious who the perpetrator was, and why. I'm not sure if this was because it was too easy to guess or whether I've just read too many books in this genre! I would recommend this as a good thriller with well-written characters, but don't expect to be overly surprised if you read a lot of thrillers.

Lauren is not sure where these threats are coming from which causes her to begin to question everyone around her including her husband-to-be Adam! This book had a lot of twist and turns! The narrators were not reliable, which made this story fun to read! The author did a great job building up possible realistic suspects before the big reveal. Adam was my least favorite character! If he would have been honest with Lauren, it would have helped them stand together when the strange things started to happen. I liked how realistic Lauren's character was and I thought she could have found a better man than Adam! The writing made this book an easily one sitting read! If you are a fan of mystery and suspense, this book is a great one to pick up over a cozy weekend in or while traveling.

Then we go back in time 3 months. I’m all in. However, Adam, the fiancee, and a doctor turns out to be a bit dim-witted and easily attracted to other women with a very raunchy past. Lauren, his fiancée, also a doctor works the night shift while he is on an opposite schedule. The bride is pining for her parents who died in the Thailand ocean 18 years ago while on vacation with the groom and his family and she’s having a hard time planning the wedding without having a nervous breakdown because she feels responsible for their death by drowning. Still with me? Then Lauren receives a card with a picture of their engagement photo but on the inside is a threatening message that states “He doesn’t love you.” Sh*t starts to get real. Add to this is the sudden appearance of Adam’s female best friend who moves in with the couple (he doesn’t check first with Lauren) because she gets kicked out by her girlfriend and the BFF chick takes over their home, then the bride’s sister returns with a snippy daughter, and all sorts of mysterious things start to happen which foretell gloom and doom. Shockingly they return to Thailand to sort things out but everything goes to hell in a hand-basket. I was dizzy with the multiple plot twist, multiple storylines, multiple characters, and we’re all supposed to be guessing who did it, who is the bad person? This one was a little bit overdone and reminiscent of a Dynasty-type soap opera. I expected the sisters to be in the ocean bitch-slapping each other silly by the end of the book. I’m sure this is going to be a very popular novel and I have liked other books that I read by the author. This won’t be one of them. Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC but my opinion and review are my own without bias. #twisty #weddingjitters #crazy #sisters #wedding #givingmyownhubsthesideeye @netgalley #theWedding #crazytown

Once again, Ruth has written an unputdownable psychological thriller. Soon into the book, poor Lauren, the bride-to-be, starts to receive sinister gifts. Then came the scary happenings which absolutely set me on edge while reading. Cue the tension. I loved how the mystery then deepened. I have to mention the Thailand location. It really made me feel as though I was there, making lockdown that little bit better. So I got a healthy dose of escapism too. Lauren was a likeable character, someone you can properly root for. The two main perspectives used in the book were Lauren and Adam, her fiancé. I found his chapters gave me further insight into what was happening and I enjoyed those just as much. I particularly loved the flashback chapters. The book starts with a deadly bang that had me turning the pages fast, and the revelations were shocking. Just when I thought I had it all sewn up, my theories unravelled which totally kept me on my toes. If you love a fabulous twisty turny read, then this is it!

Lauren and Adam are getting married and things are starting to happen. First is a card that Lauren receives saying "Adam doesn't love you". Wow!! I absolutely loved this book and read it in under 24 hours! It is gripping, has a quick pace and has so many twists and turns! The suspension builds and I really liked the main characters but I didn’t quite believe their reactions to the twists and revelations at the end of the book- so many shocking things happen and I feel the characters didn’t react realistically. However, this book kept me hooked until the end and I would definitely recommend it to fans of a quick paced thriller!

This is a great read with an ending I didn’t see coming. The book begins with the wedding day and someone is attacking the bride. It ends quickly so you don’t know how bad it is. They started right after her parents were killed in an accident on a trip to Thailand with Adam and his parents. Lauren starts receiving disturbing dolls that resemble her all cut up and bloody as well as disturbing notes telling her that Adam doesn't love her and threatening her life. Basically her perfect day turns out to be a NIGHTMARE. I quite enjoyed what this author was portraying and how she mixed in both Adam and Lauren's POV to establish her story. How the author went back to what happened in Thailand to the present-day wedding really helped me piece together what had actually taken place. The characterization of some of the antagonists made me really dislike them from the start of the book and every note, everything that happened to Lauren throughout the book made me question who was doing this till the very end. It is why this thriller is probably one of those books that will stay with me for some time. Those are always the best books when I'm in a slump. All in all, I quite enjoyed this author's writing and I hope when I decide to marry, it does not have this many issues.
