Melissa Mitchell is going to be alone at the holidays, at least until her new friend Terri Coleman takes pity and invites her to the family home in rural North Carolina for an old-fashioned family Christmas. It sounds wonderful, and to top it all off, Terri has a single and very eligible brother, Richmond police detective Joe Coleman. Then Terri drops her bomb shell: the Melissa Mitchell is going to be alone at the holidays, at least until her new friend Terri Coleman takes pity and invites her to the family home in rural North Carolina for an old-fashioned family Christmas. It sounds wonderful, and to top it all off, Terri has a single and very eligible brother, Richmond police detective Joe Coleman. Then Terri drops her bomb shell: the Coleman family is old-fashioned in more ways that one, and Terri has recently fallen afoul of her brother, who took care of the situation in the time-honored way. Could it happen again? There are issues unresolved between Terri and her brother, and Terri feels she needs to warn Melissa that no-nonsense Joe just might resort to spanking if he thought the situation warranted it. And that's not all: Terri's other brother and his wife are in a domestic discipline relationship, and are very open about it. As irritated as Melissa is that Terri has dragged her into family drama, Melissa also has a secret of her own: she's been fascinated with tales of old-fashioned over-the-knee-discipline forever, and the idea that that could occur in real life seems too much to believe. At first, the holiday celebration couldn't be better. Melissa and Joe feel an instant attraction, fueled by the fact that Joe quickly figures out that Melissa's interest in what had recently happened to Terri goes beyond mere concern for her friend. But Melissa has another secret, a dark terrifying reality from her past. Just when she feels the most safe, through an innocent mistake, the secret is revealed endangering everyone in the family. And Joe will do anything to protect his family…. Publisher's note: "An Old-Fashioned Christmas" is an erotic romantic adventure featuring the spanking of adult women. It is intended for adults only.

First of all, let me say that this book has gotten many good reviews here and on Amazon. If what I'm about to say doesn't bother you, I suggest you look at those. I thought this was a loathsome book and didn't finish it for three reasons: 1) Incest: Authors often try to, but really can't have it both ways. I thought this was a loathsome book and didn't finish it for three reasons: 1) Incest: Authors often try to, but really can't have it both ways. Spanking is presented as a kink in ALL these generic books; thus, when you depict a male family member spanking an adult female relative, you may as well be writing incest. In fact, I'm just going to come right out and say it: you are. In this case, Joe spanks his adult sister: "he yanked my sweats down, and put me over his knee." There's also the implication that their father would do the same. In what world is a brother or father touching the bare bottom of an adult female relative not incest? The fact that even though the boys also got spanked as children, the girls are the only ones to be so as adults only strengthens my argument (as well as paints the author as a gender-essentialist, because the male sex, of course, NEVER does anything wrong!). 2) Child Abuse: All the reviewers who loved this book seem just fine with this: "we're talking pants down, bare ass, no foolin' around...paddle...got used on me...my dad had a strap in the garage for my brothers." So, this description details the spankings these characters got as children; thus, this is child abuse. I am not okay with glorifying such vicious corporal punishment of children (not to mention that every single statistic shows that this is emotionally harmful to children). 3) Domestic Violence: When neighbors hear Terri screaming when Joe brutally whips her (with hand, spoon, and belt, no less), they call the police. When the police come, Joe just shows them his badge, claims he was just "disciplining his sister," and they leave -- without even checking to make sure Teri is okay. Uhm, really? In a book set in the 21st century United States, there isn't enough suspension of disbelief in the world to think this would happen. While I get that these are fantasies, in books that are fairly realistic, a certain amount of credibility is expected. As I said, I didn't finish this; other reviewers note that this ends in a cliffhanger. Though this volume was released several years ago, the sequel is only now being published this year. I suppose the author will find out whether or not the original readers are still interested in or remember the story. Finally, as of Feb. 5, 2020, many of the reviews here and on Amazon are from fellow writers in this genre -- not all of whom identify themselves as such. They do, of course, have every right to leave reviews and I get that they are fans of this genre and want to support other writers. However, I personally feel that they owe it to readers to disclose their conflict of interest since they often host each other on their blogs (free advertising) and the 5 stars they leave simply add to the book's average. These reviews encourage potential readers to spend money and, quite frankly, no reader can be sure these reviews aren't biased. Overall, between the always glowing reviews from fellow authors and those from ARC members, I, personally, only trust the readers who are neither since, statistically, it's impossible that every single one of these books is really 5- or 4-star worthy.

A fast paced holiday romance set in western North Carolina at a home with traditional ideas about domestic bliss. There is also a thriller element to the story that keeps the reader on the edge of her seat. Great spanking banter and lots of heated action. Loved it!!!

What relationships will survive the revelation of the secrets? I took an interest in this novel after reading the blurb about a modern-day domestic discipline romance. I have been reading novels on historical domestic discipline, so a modern-day take on that theme piqued my interest. The novel is just shy of 300 pages at 291 on my e-reader. I found the first portion of the story interesting and intriguing. There was a bit of criminal activity with a promise of adventure and action later in the story. Terri seemed sweet and sociable. Melissa, due to her secret, seemed to fit in perfectly. The Coleman family presented as all-American. After Terri told Melissa what had happened with her brother Joe, I was a little creeped out by that behavior. As things progressed with Joe and Melissa, it was somewhat titillating and heated. Near the end of the story, I felt it was overwhelming. The domestic discipline seemed to be more about what Joe wanted to do versus what Melissa and Joe had agreed upon. Towards the end of the story, I was tired of Joe’s veiled threats toward Terri. Even during an emotionally distressing time, Joe can use profanity and be out of sorts, but Terri needs to act like some hopeless and helpless miss that needs men to tell him what to do? She is not allowed to lose her stuff and be hysterical? How can she learn to be an adult if she is constantly living in fear of every action or behavior is going to be met with corporal punishment? I found the story concept engaging, but Joe was a class A jerk in my opinion. I wanted to punch him in his pretty face at times. Don’t get me wrong, I love a commanding Alpha, but I don’t like characters that utilize lose-lose situations or double standards to control other characters. Maybe in the next book, Melissa will use the Attitude Adjuster on Joe! The story does contain an epilogue but still ends on a cliffhanger.

Melissa was going to be alone for the holidays until her friend invites her to spend it with her. Terri tells Melissa that her family is a bit old fashioned especially when it comes to punishments. Will she end up over someone’s knee? Fast-paced read with loads of drama and suspense. Great characters and a sizzling story. I liked it.

Terri has shared that one of her brothers, Joe, has taken the role as her disciplinarian and spanked her when he felt her behavior was out of line. Melissa has had fantasies of spankings and had done research on the subject, but this brought it closer to home. This Christmas might be a highlight or it might take her life. Can Joe keep his family and this witness safe when Melissa’s location is discovered? This is one thrilling, suspense filled drama! One situation complicates the next. The family of characters are pleasant and surprising and most of them are very down to earth and relatable. The setting (the outskirts of Asheville, North Carolina) gives readers a look into country living, albeit with an edge - bad guys coming where they are not welcome. Unfortunately the ending was very abrupt and left many loose ends. The reader is left hanging, wondering where the romance will lead and if Melissa gets away safely. Although the book is part of a series, the major cliffhanger is still frustrating. Here’s hoping the next in the series, “Old Fashion Valentine’s Day” will wrap it up nicely!

What a great story! This story had it all! Mystery, action, romance, sex, family, drama, fun, and lots of spankings! I loved all the characters! Melissa is in the Witness Protection Program. She goes "home" with her friend, Terri, for the holidays. We are introduced to a wonderfully old fashioned family- old fashioned as in males who lead the household, and who spank their wives. YUM! Older brother, Joe, takes his sister in hand, in a wonderful, non sexual scene that I felt was done, perfectly! After Me What a great story! This story had it all! Loved the characters. They are strong people who care for each other. Melissa's friend Terri is fun even if a bit of a brat. Joe is a no nonsense guy. I loved the story development and the humor. But I went with 4 stars instead of 5 because I hated the cliff-hanger ending. I can't wait to see what happens next. Loved the characters. They are strong people who care for each other. I literally could not put this book down from the moment I picked it up. The plot, the writing, the characters were all spot on for me. There was great action, loving family discipline, & a hot & steamy budding romance. I cannot wait to see what the next installment has in store for me.

I will be honest. When I first read the synopsis of this book I thought it would be a fluffy spanky book. It is no such thing. Melissa is not who she seems to be, in more ways than one. She has hidden her interest in spanking and she must hide that she is in the Witness protection program, to keep not only herself, but those around her safe. Her new friend Terri has hidden a few things from Melissa too, and Melissa doesn't begin to find out what they are until Terri is driving home for Christmas I will be honest. Her new friend Terri has hidden a few things from Melissa too, and Melissa doesn't begin to find out what they are until Terri is driving home for Christmas with Melissa as an invited guest. Terri confesses she is from a spanking family, and Melissa is of course intrigued. She is welcomed into the family, and on the outside it looks like Melissa will be treated to a traditional old fashioned Christmas, with a loving family gathered for the season. But it is not a picture perfect family. Other family members are keeping secrets too which cause friction among Terri's parents, her 2 older brothers who are married and her unmarried brother. And of course, the only really predictable part of the story is the connection between Melissa and her unmarried brother, Joe. But it is hot, hot, hot. And it is a bit spanky too, allowing Melissa to finally "feel" what her fantasy is all about. Besides being a strict dominant man, Joe is also determined to find out what Melissa is hiding and he is just as determined to keep her safe. Melissa is even more determined to keep Joe and all his family safe from her dangerous predicament. Sadly, the story ends unresolved. This is Ms. Flynn's first book, and she knocks it out of the park. As a reader, I cannot wait for the sequel. There better be a sequel, or the readers will send Joe looking for her! I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I don't think it was fair that Terri held back and did not warn Melissa that her family believed in good old fashioned discipline. Terri had a knack of finding herself on the wrong side of her brother Joe. Something that Melissa had only fantasized about. Joe had become the man of Melissa’s dreams in a very short period of time until one slip of the tongue set off a chain reaction of epic proportions that no one could of predicted. I must say that this story will be marked as one of my must-reads of the year. It was a fast-moving, action-packed book that will have you searching for other books by this author. A great story that left me wanting more from these characters.

I read this book when it initially came out in 2013. I thought it may have changed a little with this new release, but wasn't really disappointed that it hadn't. It's definitely worthy of a second read. The story is pretty clearly divided between romance and drama. The romance was very sweet, and I really liked the two characters. The drama side of the story was very well written, with lots of suspense. I've read hundreds of books since the original release of this book. Great storyline that's intriguing and suspenseful. Loved the chemistry between Joe and Melissa. They have lots of hot steamy sex, action, drama, spankings, DD action and an old fashioned charm. Loved the flow of the story nothing felt rushed or too sudden. Very believable. Will read more from this author. Book ends in a cliff hanger. Was disappointed this wasn’t pointed out in the description as I would not have read this now and would have waited for the next book to be released. The story was well written, characters well developed and can’t wait to see what happens next. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Different High excitement in a fall for your friend’s big brother at Xmas story. Ends on a cliffhanger. Spanking story with some hot sexy times...although the brother spanks the sister on her bare butt a couple of times which was kinda not something I wanted described....maybe just fade to black on that.

Attempted murder, fleeing from the mob, hot sex.... Exciting read keeps you wondering what will happen next. A friend asks Melissa home for Christmas, neglects to tell her that her family believe in spanking, and then proceeds to provoke her brother. Melissa is majorly attracted to Joe Coleman and very interested in spanking.
