Do you feel lost? Disconnected? Like you’re just going through the motions? When you don’t know the next step to take, God’s grace empowers you with a way forward. His hope offers an anchor for the soul and a way to get back on track. His faithfulness declares that wherever you are now, he is always ready to bring you home. As a respected Bible teacher, author, and activist, Do you feel lost? Disconnected? Like you’re just going through the motions? When you don’t know the next step to take, God’s grace empowers you with a way forward. His hope offers an anchor for the soul and a way to get back on track. His faithfulness declares that wherever you are now, he is always ready to bring you home. As a respected Bible teacher, author, and activist, Christine Caine knew that Jesus was her only anchor. But after an especially difficult season, she found herself drifting, unsure if she wanted to keep going the way she always had and asking, “How did I get here?” as she struggled to return to the steadiness of God’s purpose for her. Where she once wanted to take ground, she now just wanted to take cover. It was a bewildering and disorienting place to be—one you may also have found yourself in before. With refreshing candor and relatable humor, Christine offers biblical insights helping you identify nine signs you are drifting off course and realign with God’s purpose; ask the right questions about your relationships with God, others, and your own heart so you can stay anchored in truth despite the world’s shifting currents; move from a what-if faith to an even-if faith as you discover how to trust God more deeply; and wrestle honestly with your soul’s longings so we can respond to all the ways God answers—even when it feels like he doesn’t. Writing for all who feel empty of the spiritual passion they once knew, Christine vulnerably shares her journey of turning her eyes back to Jesus in her thoughts, prayers, actions, and the hard questions she asked along the way.

This book took a little bit..not because it wasn’t wonderful, but because I kept stopping to highlight passages. This book is so very needed right now in this world, and I am so thankful to have read it. I can’t recommend it enough if you ever have days where the stress and anxiety just get to be (almost) too much.

This book was clearly written during 2020 during lockdowns, social distancing and stay at home orders. I think many books now coming out written during this time have a similar theme because many were challenged to see what they were really grounding themselves in and that theme is throughout this book. So many of us found ourselves asking the question of “How did I get here?” In this book Caine gently and firmly reminds believers how easy it really is to drift away from God and His purpose for you. With scripture, practical tips, stories both humorous and serious, Caine guides people to confront their passivity in areas of their walk with Christ, to be honest we ourselves and each other and leads the reader back to Christ Himself. I deeply appreciated the chance to review this title and I would recommend it to many.

Since Goodreads recommended this book, I'm giving it one star as a "fuck you." Don't recommend Goddess-rejecting monotheist books to me if you want me to refrain from doing this, Goodreads. I didn't escape smug and self-righteous Goddess-rejecting monotheist hypocrites in the Midwest so Goodreads could continue their harrassment tradition. I loved this book. The drift of believers that I follow on social media is real and disconcerting. Christine Caine speaks gracious truth, orienting us to Christ and the foundations of an anchored life. I felt like a big sister was giving me straight talk, and offering me the good path of prayer, endurance, righteousness, trust, community, healing, mission. If you feel a bit tossed and turned by the last year and the barrage of mixed-messaging by influencers, let this book make clearer the Way.

I heard Christine speak at the IF Gathering and what she said had really moved something inside of me. I knew that when she announced her new book, that I really wanted to hear what God was putting on her heart to share. I was not disappointed. I have had a lot of uncertainties and questions in the last couple of months. The stories and the scripture she shared in this book helped me to reflect on how I've been living out my faith. I was encouraged by this authors’ transparent approach in her writing style. The author shows readers that they are not the only one drifting, trying to get anchored again, she offers help in re-setting their markers after everything shifted in a big way in 2020. I like how this author addresses the fact that we all experienced something historic this past year and with its many challenges in make sense out of everyday life. It is like we have come up for air and are trying to see clearly the way to go in order to get connected to our anchor Jesus, again. The author begins by sharing where she is at and how Navy SEALs go through horrific training and can ring a bell at any time to stop the process, and the pain. No questions asked. The author says that she has felt like ringing the bell in her personal life, saying Father I’ve had enough. It is in times like these He asks us to press into Him for our courage, strength, and wisdom. She says, “If Jesus could endure his entire race, then I know that we can, too, and not just because he became fully man and demonstrated it for us – but because we are filled with the Holy Spirit!. We are filled with the power to press on!” I liked all the examples the author shows (through personal experience and other examples from the bible with scripture references) The author shows that it is all the little things we do that make us drift off course and lose sight of keeping the main thing the main thing. This is the first book I have read by this author it will not be the last. This book is a keeper and one I look forward to reading again as I look up all the bible references and soak all of it in. I was able to be given an advanced readers copy of this book. And honestly, it has been such a blessing in a hard season of my life. This didn’t feel like most books. It felt like I was sitting down and having coffee with Christine Caine and we were chatting about life and all the ups and downs. If you feeling stuck, tired, weary, or downtrodden. You need to read this book. It is full of wonderful words that were definitely needed for my own journey and is perfect for you as well.

As part of Christine Caine's launch team, I was given a digital copy of the book before it is released June 8th. It's the perfect book for the day and age we live in. Christine talks about how there were times recently when she felt like quitting and just giving up. She compared that to the time she threw the boat's anchor overboard but didn't wait to see if it caught and the boat drifted. Without Jesus as our anchor, we can begin drifting. "As Solomon wrote, it's the little foxes that undermine our relationship with God--the things we might not notice, that seem small, invisible, undetected." "If we don't look up and check our markers, we will be taken places we never wanted to go--emotionally, physically, relationally, or spiritually." The book is rich of full of truths and beautifully transparent as with all Christine's writings. Here are a few more of my favorite quotes from the book. "We can't control everything that happens to us or around us. We can't control the decisions others make that deeply affect us." "If we neglect paying attention to our thoughts, then we will be hostage to untruth." "It was obvious what had spread faster than any virus ever could was fear--and all that fear brings. Worry. Doubt. Anxiety. Panic. Dread. Even stockpiling. FEAR WANTED TO CONTROL ME." "Imagine the difference we could make in people's lives if we actually realized that we are a love letter sent from God to them" There are SO many other passages like these that will make you think, make you squirm, and sometimes make you either shout in praise or cry with repentance. Put this book in the hand of everyone you can. Let's show the world how much God loves them.

The new book by author Christine Caine, How Did I Get Here, is a timely look at how we drift in our spiritual lives and relationship with God. The year 2020 set us adrift, no doubt about that and this book is a tool to help the reader, get to know there is an anchor that will hold their lives secure, no matter what the circumstances are around them. And not only be introduced to the anchor that holds, but also gives insights on how to check the links in the chain their anchor is attached to, and how to set that anchor firmly so you will not drift. This book is a user-friendly read, but packed with nourishing protein to build your spiritual bones. Everyone can relate to the author saying, we drift because our trust gets shaken but paying attention is the antidote to drifting. This book will guide the reader to what they need to pay attention to and how to pay attention to it. I was given an advance copy by the publisher for a fair review.

I have appreciated Christine Caine's speaking and books immensely over the years. When I heard about this new book I jumped at the chance to read it. This book was simply amazing! Feeling like I’m not alone in the question I ask most frequently, felt empowering. I listen to Christine Caine's podcasts and I was excited to read an early digital copy of the book from NetGalley. Christine Caine uses the analogy of an anchor and how to be anchored in Christ. I think what stood out to me the most was how there are parts of the link that holds the anchor and we have to make sure the parts of the link are strong so our anchor doesn't drift away from Jesus. It was encouraging how Christine Caine wrote how to be anchored in our faith but that we will drift within our faith and how to press on. When we surrender everything to Jesus, anchor ourselves in Him, we can better fight the currents and will be a brighter light to others.

I really loved this book! Chris gets at the heart of each chapter of how we can drift away from God so easily and not even know it. The only thing that I didn’t like as much was the multiple amount of bible verses she quoted. Don’t get me wrong, I love bible verses. But when there are too many, it’s hard to remember all of them for one chapter. Also, she tends to add a lot repetition to her stories. I could do without them, but I could see where it drives the points home. Overall, a good read.

I really enjoyed reading this book and learning how God enabled Christine to overcome a very difficult childhood to become an agent of change and a positive example for many in today’s world. Christine very openly discusses her faith, the various signs that the reader may be drifting, even those that are successful Christians like herself where all appears to be well on the outside, and how to reposition themselves in a steadfast and immovable manner. I highly recommend this book to all Christians who may find themselves at one point or another asking, “How did I get here?”

Human beings crave consistency, stability, and reliability. We are made to flourish when purposefully planted on solid ground and in good soil. We are designed to be rooted deep, watered daily, and producing fruit. When we have a healthy foundation, we grow, are pruned, enhance in quality, and expand, not just our reach, but also our supply. We are made to flourish when purposefully planted on solid ground and in good soil. We are designed to be rooted deep, watered daily, and producing fruit. When we have a healthy foundation, we grow, are pruned, enhance in quality, and expand, not just our reach, but also our supply. These attributes were threatened during the Covid-19 pandemic. For some, they were carried away in the storm of 2020 and dragged into a murky mess where black muddles shades of gray. For others, the unsteady wind of a wild year gradually pushed them in a direction they never intended to go. Yet, those anchored in Christ who endured and persevered had their faith tried, tested, and strengthened. If there is one lesson that comes from the Covid-19 pandemic, it should be the realization that God is the only constant in an ever-changing and unpredictable world. He is, was, and will forever be the Sovereign Authority of all (Revelation 1:8). As a Type-A recovering perfectionist, I clung to the Truth and promise that God is in control despite living in a world that very much felt like it was spinning out of control. I drew close to Him and sought Him, daily, because He was the only consistent, stable and reliable thing in my life. I could have tuned out, but instead chose to tune in(to) Him because He has proven faithful to me over years of trials, tribulations, confusions, and heartaches. Time and time again. But that wasn’t always the case. Even during my (almost 15) years of being a Christian, I have found myself being led astray by the current of the world and my own fleshly desires. Sometimes I was misguided unwittingly and other times I had drifted intentionally. In those regretful moments, complacency, contentment, weariness, frustration, and devastation drove the ship away from the shore. It wasn’t until I had looked back at where I had been, that I had realized just how far I had gone. This is the concept behind Christine Caine’s latest book, How Did I Get Here: Finding Your Way Back to God When Everything is Pulling You Away. Caine draws on her personal experience of finding herself drifting during a difficult season in her life. She describes how easy it is to drift away from Jesus and the foundation of your faith when you are not attentive, proactive, and intentional. Drifting, or coasting (moving without power) happens gradually and often when you are not paying close attention. Using the imagery of the natural current of a body of water, Caine explains how an individual can be guided further and further away from where he or she originally began. The elements of wind and waves can take a person off course or make their condition unstable and/or uncertain. This is a compelling illustration that is very relatable, especially when considering today’s culture and the political climate in the United States. “For this reason, we must pay attention all the more to what we have heard, so that we will not drift away.” Hebrews 2:1 In her signature style, Caine vulnerably, honestly, humbly, and humorously shares her journey of wrestling with questions that deeply challenged her faith. By refocusing her eyes back on Jesus and the steadiness of God’s purpose for her life, Caine was able to redirect herself from a what-if consideration to an even-if position of an unwavering faith. Additionally, How Did I Get Here identifies nine signs that suggest you may be drifting: 1.) Are you shifting with the world’s current or are you anchored to the Rock? 2.) Are you trusting in God or are you trying to control your life? 3.) Are you working towards healing and restoration or are the wounds of your past seeping into your present? 4.) Are you asking questions amidst struggles in your faith or are you wandering away from your faith? 5.) Are you seeking prayer or are you seeking advice? 6.) Are you gathering in community [for support, courage, and accountability] or are you isolating yourself? 7.) Are you hungry for the Spirit or are you bingeing on worldly things? 8.) Are you living in a protective and comfortable bubble or are you living out the Great Commission to go and make disciples? 9.) Are you enduring, persevering, and pressing into Jesus or are you steadily coasting away? If you are feeling empty or are longing for the spiritual fullness you once knew, then you need to read this book! It asks hard questions and encourages the reader to personally examine their faith and the condition of their heart. It is practical, applicable, and packed with wisdom, biblical insight, relatable humor, and reminders that you are never too far gone to be brought back home.

"How Did I Get Here" provides good comparisons and contrasts to help Christians identify where they may have strayed away from Jesus Christ being the anchor of their souls. Using examples from her own life, Christine Caine, explains how we have to be resolute in our daily living and thinking to keep Christ the focus. She explains how easily it is to start drifting away and that no one is immune from drifting in any aspect of their life. Familiarity with God and religious traditions or activities "How Did I Get Here" provides good comparisons and contrasts to help Christians identify where they may have strayed away from Jesus Christ being the anchor of their souls. Using examples from her own life, Christine Caine, explains how we have to be resolute in our daily living and thinking to keep Christ the focus. She explains how easily it is to start drifting away and that no one is immune from drifting in any aspect of their life. Familiarity with God and religious traditions or activities, can cause believers to lose their pursuit of God and subtly begin the process of moving away from His Presence and will. We can get caught up in religious activities and find ourselves unsatisfied, disappointed, weary, disobedient, at the point of giving up, and/or just where God was and not where He is. There were practical explanations, which were familiar to the author, but a little repetitive and unrelatable since many focused on her Greek upbringing or being acquainted with her testimony or other books. Though that wasn't the case for every example, it was alluded to several times. I would've liked other examples for each drifting topic but the ones provided were fine to get the points across. Overall, I think this book was an easy read and an essential matter that Christians should examine and address. It's also important to make sure that believers have sound doctrine about what salvation and being Christian is all about: you must be born-again of the water through baptism in Jesus Name and of the Spirit, by being filled with the Holy Ghost evidenced by speaking in other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance. If people are misled to believe salvation is a "sinners prayer," which is not Biblical, then, without the power given by God through the Holy Spirit, there would be no real anchor, no supernatural to do anything but be double-minded, unstable, operating in the flesh, only being a good person by worldly standards, and found unrepentant and not regenerated because repentance along with water baptism, and Holy Ghost filling hasn't taken place or, if they have, a person is grieving and quenching the Holy Ghost by walking in the flesh and ignoring the Word of God. When TRUE CONVERSION occurs, the proper anchor is secured and we are to press on with diligence and discipline, come what may, keeping the faith and being obedient to the Lord. As Christine Caine penned, “A dropped anchor gives the appearance of stability, while a set anchor actually grants stability.” May we be careful to make sure we're set-anchored in the Lord Jesus, so, we are counted among His sheep and not deceived.

Though I have all her books, I’ve only read her first, Undaunted, years ago, until receiving this one recently. The title is self-explanatory and Christine reminds us that changes in our lives that get us to the point of asking this question are subtle. They are small and just build upon one another. She reminds us that we need to truly anchor ourselves fully so we don’t stray. She addresses signs that we are drifting: we stop trusting God and try taking control, we stop healing and start seeping, we wander, we talk rather than pray, we isolate, etc. She also talks about our spiritual wounds and spiritual “diet”, neglecting prioritizing God and spending time in His Word, righteousness, living in bubbles and in fear, losing focus, etc. I really loved this one and knew when I first saw news of it that it would be timely for me as I have wondered for a long time “how did I get here?” My only critique is why doesn’t she capitalize any pronouns when referring to God? For someone who clearly has such reverence for Him, sometimes her writing doesn’t reflect it as strongly. I give it 4.5 out of 5!! I've asked myself this question before but especially lately...How Did I Get Here? I was burned out, exhausted and studying to be a licensed minister. I was burned out, exhausted and studying to be a licensed minister. I was asking myself why I was working so hard to take these courses and wondering if I was going to even continue. Little did I know that when I signed up to be on the launch team for this book that my life would change so dramatically and quickly.  A series of personal situations peaked with suddenly becoming the sole  caregiver for my frail, disabled elderly mother. I'm single so I work a full time job. Even though I questioned it I longed to finish my courses. I found myself relating entirely as I digitally turned each page.   Christine pours her heart out with such transparency and candor.  She captains the ship with grace and empathy.  She  expertly navigates through the choppy and often times harrowing waters as only someone who has been there can do.   She doesn't let you chart those waters alone. She understands and warns of the danger zones that can lead to life altering decisions to throw in the towel. She offers hope and provides steps to set our anchors correctly. I learned that there is no shame in drifting. The key is getting back on course. Especially helpful is how she teaches to identify our markers. We can't know if we've drifted if we don't know where our "homebase" is. We have the option to "ring the bell" but is that what we want? I don't! I don't want to quit. I want to finish my race for the glory of God. You may or may not be struggling right now. Chances are you know someone who is. You never know what people are hiding behind their smiles. Get this book, read it, absorb it and share it! It's a mega dose of vitamins for your spirit and soul. The words of wisdom in this book have the potential to get you back on track, change your life and affect the destiny of those around you. It depends on you putting it into action.

This is one of the best books I have ever read! Christine Caine is so good at using stories to illustrate a truth and teach Biblical principles. Every chapter was filled with wow moments! She even mentions her spiritual daughters in this book, and I am one of them. I’ve often wished I could just sit down with Christine Caine, and she could teach me all these things because she is passionate about Jesus, the Word of God, and people — and it’s contagious. Reading this book felt like sitting down with her one-on-one. She is especially vulnerable in this book, and her authenticity and courage to share brings a depth to the message that is personal, real, intimate, and relatable. I’m thankful Christine Caine chose to share this hard season in her life and what God showed her so that people all over the world could be helped. God used it to answer questions I’ve had lately and even one I’ve had for nearly 25 years. I learned that I’m not alone in my experiences or in needing the solution and that Jesus will not let us go! No matter where you are spiritually, there is something for you in this book! How Did I Get Here?: Finding Your Way Back to God When Everything is Pulling You Away

It's been awhile since a book has convicted me like How Did I Get Here?, leaving me thinking about my own spiritual walk and if I am currently drifting. I have been feeling stagnant in my faith for awhile, almost to the point that I'm starting to not even go through the motions anymore, but reading this book lit something inside me, and I felt a spark I haven't felt in a long time...hope. While I know that change isn't going to happen overnight, my heart is again full of hope, and I have to thank God for using this amazingly deep and raw resource to start to move the stagnant waters of my heart, and help me learn how to once again drop my anchor. Christine Caine also found herself in uncharted waters, and in one moment, after much soul searching, she realized that she had unknowingly drifted, and this is where me, and many I've spoken to, especially since the pandemic, have also found themselves. How Did I Get Here? is Christine's personal story, and an invitation for the reader to join her on her journey as she checks each spiritual "link" one by one, prompting the reader to do the same, each link leading to the anchor of Jesus. Filled with both heart and gospel, and chock full of Biblical references, and real talk, this resource not only gives sound doctrine to each point that is made, but it also urges you to dive deeper in study on your own, something I very much appreciated. How Did I Get Here? is such a rich reference that I am already going back and doing a deeper study on my own. I can see that God is using this resource to reach me, and I can see this publication being a game changer for many. *I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from Nelson Books through NetGalley. When I first saw the title, I knew there had to be something in the book that was going to connect with me, especially due to my life choices. I have quite a testimony and truly know how gracious and forgiving my Father God is and despite the bad choices we make he is still giving us the very best if we trust Him. This book just happened to be right on time as I had been out of work for months, needed to go back to work and needed to buy a home. It was quite stressful to say the least. Christine always talks about how much God loves us and wants to give us the very best. I have learned to realize this is so very true. He gave me the perfect job because I prayed that His will be done in my life and I gave him that to take care of. Although several offers on homes were not taken due to the craziest home market right now I have peace as I know God has something far more better. This book was perfect timing during this trying time in my life not to mention all that I experienced with Covid in the last year. It also allowed me to let go of wondering "How did I get here" at this point in my life. I realize now that God's hands were in it all along and He always makes good out of difficult situations no matter what they may be. I highly recommend reading this book, no matter where you are in your life story right now. It will definitely connect to your circumstances.

This is where Christine Caine's book How Did I Get Here? finds us. Christine wrote this book when she was in a place of chaos, uncertainty, and ready to quit. How Did I Get Here? is a book on drifting in our faith and our relationship with God. Based on Hebrews 2:1-4 this book deals with 8 ways that point to drifting in our faith and away from God - such as "You Know You've Drifted When...You Stop Healing and You Start Seeping or You Know You've Drifted When...You Stop Praying and You Start Talking." The chapters contain personal stories, personal revelation, Scripture, encouragement, and ways to get back on course in our faith. This book is an inspiration and encouragement to me letting me know I am not alone when I drift in my faith, doubt God, and find myself frustrated or disappointed in my life. I recommend this book to everyone - those who are lost or disappointed with their lives, those who are ready to quit and ring the bell, and even those who are confident and satisfied with their lives. We can find ourselves in these categories at different times or seasons of our lives. This book can help us be aware of when we get off course in our faith and guide us back to where we are called to be in life and our relationship with God. I received an advanced copy of this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.

In a season where so many of us have felt isolated or alone, Christine’s book encompasses humour, biblical truths and personal anecdotes. It is incredibly inspiring, insightful and relevant to the season we are in right now. It poses the simple question many of us have asked at one stage or another of our lives - “How Did I Get Here?”. I was unable to put this book down and found myself highlighting many passages and scriptures for future reference. Through reading this book, I realised that I was also drifting in this season. This book reinforced that no matter how far we may be adrift, we can always find our way back to God. By the end of this book, I no longer wanted to “ring the bell” and knew that my anchor is firmly secured to Jesus. I highly recommend this book to anyone who feels like they are in unchartered waters and needs an alignment to stay or get back on course.
