I recently finished reading “The Archives of Her Mind” and just had to write a review. It was really good! I don’t know how to characterize it...it wasn’t quite a novel, not really a psychology book, but something in-between that was very unique. It reminded me of the HBO show “In Treatment.” You are present in a therapist’s office as the patient slowly reveals her innermost experiences and feelings over time. I tried to analyze the main character Sophie as her therapist Nathan learned more about her. Then I spent just as much time examining my own behaviors and experiences in a new way, and looking at my dreams (and nightmares) with new insight. This is a thought-provoking story with a character I liked and could relate to, even though my personal experiences were not the same as hers. The author made therapy so accessible and almost enjoyable. (Now if she could only point me to a therapist as good as Nathan...) I was so sorry when the book ended and Sophie left Nathan’s office for the final time. We need a sequel to find out how the rest of her life turns out!

Kirschenbaum creates a compelling character that takes us along on her journey of acceptance. Acceptance of herself and acceptance of her family (faults and all). The author has created a character in Sophie that is relatable and pulls you into her struggle. I wanted to jump into the story and take care of her family issues for her! One last point: having all the "present time" scenes in the book take place in the therapist's office, gave the book a stage play feel for me. In my mind, I could totally see this playing on the stage as I read along.

Amazing how our mind can play tricks on us and protect us by suppressing painful memories. Sophie’s silence in her early years is something a lot of women can relate to—it’s heartbreaking. I love the woman she became. Couldn’t help but feel extreme sadness when I saw how she was treated as a child. Scary how a single hateful person can cause so much damage to an innocent victim. Unfortunately, too many people will be able to relate to Sophie’s sadness.

Well-written story of emotional abuse and toxic relationships. Sophie Libusier could easily have lived as a victim because she was a victim. But instead, she persevered and lived her life victoriously.

Sophia's journey through therapy with Dr. Russell had me completely involved. I always looked forward to her next therapy session, even though it was shocking to read about the traumas she endured and suppressed. It's so encouraging to follow her progress and personal growth through the sessions. You'll love this book. Sophia's journey through therapy with Dr. Russell had me completely involved.
