"The man was committing all sorts of crimes here. Thievery of her heart. Kidnapping of her common sense, and maybe even first-degree murder of her righteous anger." Such a delightful debut novel from Andrea Christenson. I'm a relative newbie to Deep Haven so it was a fun adventure meeting some of the characters from Susan May Warren's Deep Haven novels and her Christiansen Family novels and getting to know Ella and Adrian who are also relatively new to Deep Haven. Add in the premise of a Cinderella retelling and you have a perfect contemporary romance to snuggle up with. The writing flows smoothly, the plot moves at a great pace with tons of misunderstandings and hilarious scenes, the characters are lovable, and Ella and Adrian's faith journey is heart-warming. If you're looking for a sweet contemporary romance with all the feels, look no further. Creative, passionate, and determined Ella is our contemporary Cinderella, who is literally in the cleaning business and looking to change the world one cleaning solution at a time. Adrian is our Prince Charming, whose expansive family business builds hotels and water parks. When Adrian attempts to build one of their hotels in Deep Haven, his insecurity, past failures, and desperate need to succeed in this venture clashes soundly with Ella's focused passion to make the world safer by reducing chemicals introduced into the environment. Their unique jobs makes the story stand out in the sea of contemporary romance novels and I enjoyed learning about production of organic cleansers and the process of commercial development. Their friendship and blossoming romance is so lovely and sigh-inducing. I am totally loving this new Deep Haven Collection and can't wait for the third book in the series! I received the book from the publisher and also via JustRead Publicity Tours and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are solely my own.

Susan May Warren has handpicked some new authors to write stories that take the reader back to the fictional Minnesota town of Deep Haven on the North Shore of Minnesota. Susie has introduced us to Deep Haven and the residents therein in two of her previous book series: The Deep Haven Series and The Christiansen Family Series. Ella Bradley and Adrian Vassos couldn’t be more opposite. She is living on a shoestring, and Adrian appears to have access to unlimited wealth. After a first meeting, where Adrian lies about his identity to Ella, she wants nothing more to do with him and his party-boy reputation. Except, through a series of unfortunate events and misunderstandings, both Ella and Adrian are thrown together again, this time fulfilling community service hours in Deep Haven. Of course, sparks fly, but will they turn into a burning fire or dying embers? Can’t Buy Me Love is a story about forgiveness, trust, and letting God be in charge. I recommend it! *I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

I really enjoyed this story. For the author’s debut it was well rounded story with characters to love and root for, and had my adrenaline pumping at one time. The author did a great job of bringing the same feel to Deep Haven that Susan May Warren had, especially with bringing back some beloved characters - I did not feel a different author was writing their voices. Another thing I've discovered is that love is precious. You have to hold on to it for as long as you can." I enjoyed the theme about finding out who you are in Christ. Do you want to please me or trust that God has the best in stored for you. Ella, I don't have all the answers. But one thing I do know is that God cares very much. He wants good for you, not bad." I've found all the scenes with making cleaning material using more natural products and essential oils very interesting, since this is currently a journey I’m on as well. The only thing weird for me was the name of the male lead, Adrian - my aunt’s name is Adrienne so was difficult to picture a male version of this name. 😳 - but that was just something personal to me. I hope to see more of these characters in future books of Deep Haven and looking forward to more books by this author. *I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author/publisher. It's a precious and special place and it was so much fun to connect with old friends who live there and have been featured in previous books of Warren's. Andrea Christenson has added to the Deep Haven Collection series with a wonderful and well written book that is just a delight. She gives us characters that are so well fleshed out they seem real. Andrea Christenson does a great job making characters you want to stand up and fight for. Her modern day Cinderella story was a sweet read with lovable characters. She will have you turning pages to see how the characters learn to trust in God and rest in His love while also falling in love with one another. Thank you Sunrise Publishing for the advanced copy. Can't Buy Me Love is a cute Cinderella retelling! I love how author Andrea Christenson keeps the spirit of the fairy tale while making the story all her own. It was also fun to see other Deep Haven residents playing a role, particularly Grace Christiansen Sharpe and Derek Christiansen. (And there's lots of name dropping of people from other Deep Haven novels, as well.) I appreciated how Ella and Adrian each had to go through their own journeys before they could have a stable relationship - she had to deal with her anger toward her late father, and he had to decide if he truly wanted to follow in his father's footsteps. And they each found a stronger relationship with the Lord in the process. I will admit that I found something that was teased throughout the novel to be a bit anticlimactic upon its reveal, but otherwise, I enjoyed every second I spent reading this book. Can't Buy Me Love is an excellent, highly recommended entry in the Deep Haven Collection. 4 stars Disclosure of material connection: I received this book from the publisher. I'm ready to pack my bags and move to Deep Haven, MN! I'm not convinced it doesn't exist even though the authors are clear that it's a fictional town. Listen, this Minnesota gal gets all of the "Minnesota nice" vides in this story! I haven't ever read any retellings, and while Can't Buy Me Love has a light touch of Cinderella, it's ALL Deep Haven! Ella has made her way to Deep Haven to make a new start. Unfortunately, that start has hit some snags and it's hard to not feel sorry for her. Ella has made her way to Deep Haven to make a new start. Unfortunately, that start has hit some snags and it's hard to not feel sorry for her. It was so fun to notice the underlying retelling, but not have it stick out as we got to know her. It's cute that her father was the "King of Clean" and she's starting her own environmentally friendly cleaning line. Her meet-cute with Adrian was pretty funny, but it all blows up in his face. Top off that meeting with her "wicked" stepsister entering the scene and the meet-cute ends up being disastrous. Honestly, it was easy to have a quick soft spot for Adrian. Yes, he's got a not-so-glowing past, but he's resolved to change that. Of course, that plan is to take place in none other than Deep Haven! Just when you think Deep Haven is the place to escape to and start all over, people are being handcuffed, put in jail cells, being "defended" by someone who doesn't seep to give a hoot, and a judge who seems to not give one whit about finding out the truth. Hence, the shared community service both end up committed to. As we all know, Deep Haven is full of friendly, God fearing folk who come along just in time to lend a hand. I'm here to tell you again, like I did in Still the One's review, Minnesota nice is truly a thing and tends to shine brightly in small towns. I love when Deep Haven characters from other books show up in these stories. There's a cohesiveness that can't be beat! And just like any good Minnesotan, Adrian has meddlesome ladies in his life in the form of his mom and cousin, Athena. hahaha They're both interested in his love life and he's not so interested in their input. Athena is not subtle in any way and definitely does not take a hint. Adrian and Ella are on opposite sides of the fence when it comes to the waterpark he wants to build in Deep Haven. You can understand why he wants to prove to his father that he's a good businessman, but at what cost? Ella and he are out to show the world that they can be successful in their own right and it will take a wing and a prayer for them to figure out what God really has for them! While you get the sense of Deep Haven running through this story, you can see how Andrea's writing is different than Rachel's, but you still feel Susan's tether that keeps them tied together. With the sampler of book 3 at the end, I'm already looking forward to book three! *I received this book from the publisher. This is my personal opinion.

WOW! OH WOW!! I instantly fell in love with Ella’s and Adrian’s Cinderella story. From the big city elevator to the north woods cabins and campgrounds, I was enchanted! LOL. The romantic in me just loves the idea and I must say that Andrea Christenson does a good job of blending a contemporary love story in a classic fairytale complete with a "glass slipper". Spurred on by the tragic death of her mother, Ella Bradley is someone who wants to make a difference and has found a way to do that with the cleaning products she developed. She sets out to make a deal with the hotel conglomerate she owns a half-share in but is thwarted by a malfunctioning elevator. However, she finds the hour or so stuck with a handsome stranger a big plus until she finds out his true identity is not just Roger but Adrian Roger Vassos, the notorious but charming son of the man she plans to make a deal with. Meanwhile, Adrian's lie may have long-lasting consequences if he wants to pursue a relationship with the beautiful and intelligent Ella Bradley, who he can't seem to get out of his mind. His waterpark resort proposal must pass so he can prove to himself and his father that he is not a failure. When Ella discovers he plans on building that monstrosity of a waterpark in her own town of Deep Haven, she gets even more frustrated with the man. Misunderstandings and circumstances ensue and bring the two back together to do some community service in Deep Haven while Adrian and Ella try to convince each other that their own ideas are better. However, spending so much time with each leads to heartfelt conversations and realizations, which neither could confront before. Will misunderstandings continue to plague this would-be relationship? Can Adrian find his true purpose for being in Deep Haven? Can Ella escape the shame of her past and find a way to pursue her dreams? Wow. I always love a good Deep Haven story. I was excited to receive an advanced copy of this new book. Although Andrea Christenson is a new author to me, I felt she did a good job of writing the beautiful love story with its fun quirks and antics. I found the spiritual parts not quite as emotional as Susan May Warren's writing but they still held really good biblical truths that were relevant and genuine. I loved getting to know her new characters as they were introduced to the magic of Deep Haven. The misunderstandings that occurred with Ella and Adrian were hilarious as each just kept getting worse and worse. I enjoyed reading about the beauty of Deep Haven and the different activities available to tourists. (I wish I could go visit this beautiful place). Highly recommend if you enjoy clean, Christian romance with humor and heart. My thanks to the publisher for providing me with an ARC of the book. All opinions expressed here are entirely my own. Definitely recommended to sweet inspirational romance readers and fans of Deep Haven. I really loved both of the main characters from the start! The meet cute was so much fun! Getting stuck in an elevator for a little bit definitely allowed these characters to share parts of themselves and also produced some great banter. I loved how Ella had dreams to really change the world in her own way and the down-to-earth woman she was. I also loved how Adrian was fun and charming, but also had a level of integrity and desire to do what was right. They both had baggage so there were some things that they had to work through to find happiness in the end. I also loved the setting in Deep Haven with all the small-town charm and lots of cameos from favorite characters. The story had some great moments, both of friendship, of romance and of introspection and faith. Then there was the plot of a this big-city wealthy guy, Adrian, who doesn't think he'll be staying in the town long, who wants to build a resort and water park to prove something to his dad, and finds that the town and one girl in particular has stolen his heart. Add in Ella's role of trying to find herself and make a life doing what she believes in, who has her own self-doubts and anger towards her deceased father, and a town that has become a home and found family to her. It was an entertaining story that kept me turning the pages from beginning to end. I did have a few minor issues with the story here and there. Nothing too serious. Some parts felt a bit too unrealistic. I also wanted Ella to actually have to fight for Adrian. She got a bit crazy and I wasn't completely sure she actually deserved Adrian so I wanted her to have to make it up to him more than she did. In the end, was it what I wished for? This is a delightful story, set in a charming town, with wonderful characters. Lots of feels with this one and a story that will leave readers inspired and happily content. Add to the story that she has been lied to by the people who should have been the most trustworthy and you’ve got the beginnings of quite the story. I mean it is based on Cinderella but with it’s own twists and turns and they really make the book. But it gets better, or worse as the case may be when she meets a handsome man in the elevator. They’re trapped together that is. Unfortunately, he decides to not be the most truthful to her and so the story begins! He’s really not who he says he is. She’s in love with him as who he says he is. But what happens when she finds out the truth? This was a fun read. I like fairy tale retellings and this was a great one with quite the twists and turns. A prince who pretends to not be a prince. Community service and time together. Lots of fun and laughs but also some hard truths to be read about as well. I highly recommend this book and the entire series. Oh and a side note. I loved this integration of old and new characters! While Adrian feels like someone from a fairy tale, Ella fits right in to Deep Haven. She’s quirky and intense but friendly and likeable, and I love her business idea! I felt horrible at the things that kept happening to her in the beginning of the story – because it really felt as if it was all happening to her without her really having a say in it all – but I loved her attitude throughout. It’s hard to remain positive in the face of adversity, but Ella’s character has much to say, both verbally and through her actions. The authors made great spiritual connections with the Cinderella premise. I love the way that the story was told in such a way as to be fun but with flawed characters on a journey that everyone can relate to. By the end of the story I was totally on board with Adrian and Ella. I love their story and was sure that I knew how it was all going to end. Sadly, I was wrong; but I think that some of my incorrect ideas are going to connect to the next book in the series, so it will be really cool to see how those things play out. As for the others? Christenson will definitely keep you on your reader toes for this one. All told, Can’t Buy Me Love is a fun read for those who want to return to Deep Haven. Can’t Buy Me Love by Andrea Christenson and Susan May Warren mixes a modern-day Cinderella story with some unique plot turns, moderate character development, and a sweet romance. Ella and Adrian’s initial meeting snagged my attention and set the stage for much of this novel and its unusual predicaments. Christian fiction rarely harbors stories involving community service and this novel offered refreshingly original scenes. Having worked in the legal field, I found some of the legal procedures (or lack thereof) questionable, but I suspended my cynicism in favor of giving the story a chance. The creativity in Can’t Buy Me Love shined, but when I finished the final page, I wished the story had been deeper. Ella and Adrian’s personal issues linger through the story until they resolve quickly toward the end. I cheered when these two had their breakthrough moments, but longed to see the benefits/consequences play out. It felt very much like they grasped a truth, took an initial action on it, and then the story was over. Can’t Buy Me Love by Andrea Christenson and Susan May Warren lands as the second installment in the Deep Haven Collection series. While this novel integrates characters from Warren’s original Deep Haven series and Christianson Family series, Can’t Buy Me Love works perfectly fine as a stand-alone novel. I have read some of the original books, but not all, and I enjoyed catching cameos of prior characters. Fans of the original series will likely enjoy visiting Deep Haven with these new characters. Can’t Buy Me Love was a cute story. Although it was a nod to Cinderella, this novel definitely had its own twists and turns, which kept it unique. The way Ella and Adrian met was a good way to quickly throw together two people from very different backgrounds and helped to create a connection between the two. Whether it was a good connection or a bad connection remained to be seen. It was definitely a comedy of errors that landed these two doing community service together. I must admit that the handling of their cases had me cringing and a bit angry with the mismanagement. However, it all worked for the good of the story and I thought the way these two bonded as they began to get to know each other was very sweet. There was angst and misunderstanding along the way, as well as some emotional and spiritual growth that had to occur for both characters as time passed in the story. Although I liked these characters, I did not connect with them on the same level that I have with many of the other characters from the various books set in Deep Haven. But, all in all, Can’t Buy Me Love is a fun addition to the Deep Haven Collection. I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own. The two become unexpectedly stranded in a broken elevator. As they wait, Ella shares her dreams with Adrian, having no idea who he is, while she also disparages him as the irresponsible playboy of the family. (He'd given her a different name.) When they're finally rescued and the truth comes out, Ella is shamefaced. And the rest of the evening goes about as well as the elevator ride. Facing poverty, Ella returns to her Deep Haven rental. Adrian goes there as well, planning to get the city council on his side for the water park. They unexpectedly connect again. Will they overcome their bad beginning, their own misguided heart wishes (Ella's, to redeem her dad's name, and Adrian's, to capture his father's admiration), and the messes their families get them into, to see that they truly could have a fairy-tale ending? "Can't Buy Me Love" is a charming and delightful addition to the inspirational Deep Haven series. You'll love watching Ella's and Adrian's story unfold, as well as getting to visit Deep Haven and see its familiar characters again. Wonderful! Can’t Buy Me Love is book two in the Deep Haven Collection. This book is co-authored by Susan May Warren and Andrea Christenson. Ella is a housekeep that uses natural products she makes herself. He and Ella spend time together with their community service. This is a great story. I just love being able to “visit” old friends in Deep Haven and see how the characters’ lives have changed. I enjoyed the importance of family that Ella has as well as how she works to develop safe cleaning agents as a result of her mother’s death. It was fun to see how the two stepsisters felt about each other and their background that made them who they are. It was also interesting to see how Adrian and his brother dealt with business dealings so differently. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. Can’t Buy Me Love by Andrea Christenson is a charming contemporary Christian novel loosely based on the Cinderella story. It is the second book in the Deep Haven Collection series. I usually don’t read books that have a “rich guy/poor girl” theme, because those types of generally stories don’t appeal to me. But I have enjoyed other books in Susan May Warren’s “Deep Haven” series. Based on that, I gave this book a try. And I have to say, I was entertained all through this book. Their “adventure” in the opening chapter of this book, when they first meet, would fit perfectly in a movie on the Hallmark Channel. Even though there’s a huge disparity in their financial status, they are both dealing with insecurity from things that happened with their parents as they were growing up. Adrian’s trying to win his dad’s approval; Ella’s just trying to find a place to belong after years of disappointment and struggle with her dad. Both have major plans as to how to be a success in life, but events throw them off their planned schedules of success. One of the things that I appreciated most about this book was the faith aspect of the story. Both Adrian and Ella needed to learn to turn to God in their times of trouble and trust Him to direct their paths. This book is sweet, clean, and encouraging, and I’m looking forward to reading more in this series. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. A delightfully Deep Haven Cinderella story. Engaging from the beginning, once I picked it up I didn't want to put it down. I loved this book from the very beginning. I giggled over the meet cute, knowing what was really happening, and who both people on that elevator actually were. It was exactly how I wanted it to go! It’s not always easy for an author to draw me in on the billionaire love story, but this story had me hook, line and sinker. It was believable. She had such passion for her cause, and one I honestly didn’t know much about. But it makes me see things in a new perspective – such as chemicals in our world today and the effect they have on people. I’m sure it’s no mistake on the timing I read this book either, as my daughter is currently researching how to have our home have less toxic products. Now obviously the author had no idea the timing of this, or even who my daughter and I are, but God did. And I believe He would have the author put these words to paper so that we can see from yet another source that we are headed in the right direction. Contemporary romance fans will be delighted with book two in the Deep Haven novels. There is plenty of sigh worthy moments, tension (my favorite), and wonderful character growth. Not exactly. CAN’T BUY ME LOVE has everything I love about the Deep Haven series. A town that treats everyone like family. (Well, except for Ella’s landlord, that is.) A gentle romance that grows organically. Chocolate chip cookies. A spiritual growth arc. The only sad thing now is waiting for book 3, CRAZY FOR YOU, out in May. Adrian and Ella's story is a modern-day Cinderella retelling but the misunderstandings almost crippled their romance before it could get off the ground. I loved Ella. She was a dreamer who wasn't afraid of hard work. At the same time, her past made for some interesting beliefs about herself, God, and others. She had to learn that God loved her and would provide people and resources to help her. Adrian was a great lead. He had made a bunch of mistakes in his past but he had to get over it.
