𝗠𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 When time comes, will he choose his art over a second chance at life ... I remember while ready Courting Poppy Tidemore having had a thought for Tristan’s sisters and the scandal they faced and its effect on their future. I felt like at the beginning Claire was like a puppy waving its tail while seeking retribution for good deeds from its master but only gaining scalding, so it was trying again and again with no success, just to be even more trashed. A glutton for punishment. All the while she appears as a queen on her pedestal, rather haughty and sufficient in appearance. The perfect impersonation of a member of the peerage. Sure the fall will be all the more harsher. I even wondered if she was so much unaware of the ways of life or simply stupid. She presents herself as so certain of everything being due to her, she puts herself willingly on the path of more and more dangers. At time, I was torn between believing her daft or admiring her pluckiness. Because whatever muddle she does, it is with her head held high and her spirit in tow. It takes guts to go through all the barbs and insults thrown at her head or whispered in her wake. She confront everyone’s scorn with disdain and gall. Caleb is much easier to like and even love, he had been robbed of so much, his plight and disdain are understandable. Than he sees Claire as a target to express all his frustrations and angers because of what and whom she impersonates, is perfectly comprehensible. He is man torn between his painful past and his present circumstances. He hates where he stands by now but can’t or refuses to go back. So much make do and find a new path. As an artist everything he feels is even more emotional, raw, painful as his sensitive soul sees beyond the horrors to a different level. He is à vif spirit why he had drowned his sorrows and anger in gloomy dramatic compositions. Until he felt like left behind by his own art, betrayed by his true self, felling like he has lost a part of himself by his present inability to now express plainly his inner turmoils. Their journey together is one of discovery, like a coming of age as they let go of their misconceptions and false expectations to free themselves from society’s judgment. He helps her shred of her society’s garments to give free rein to her true self while she heals his damaged spirit and on the course of his recovery he finds again his muse, her. Yet while I reached the last leg of their journey, I realized the coward in this tale was not Claire but Caleb, it is gruesome what he lived through but he is the one running away from his pain while she faces head held high the many challenges fate has in store for her. One more hit with this first in a series, and while I would have loved an epilogue, I suppose it will come when the series will reach its final course. 5 stars 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 onscreen detailed foreplays and lovemaking scenes. I have been granted an advance copy by the author, here is my true and unbiased opinion. https://www.facebook.com/429830134272...

This one was just okay for me. What I liked: 1) I liked the character of Claire. I felt really bad for what had happened with her family, and I felt like she was a good character. 2) The hero was American (!!) and an artist. I love me some class differences, especially when Claire was raised as an earl's daughter. And it's just fun to read books set in this time period that aren't always about the lords and ladies. 3) Caleb was definitely a fan of enthusiastic consent. And it's just fun to read books set in this time period that aren't always about the lords and ladies. 3) Caleb was definitely a fan of enthusiastic consent. There aren't any "blurred lines" here. 4) The book is unapologetically feminist, and I love that. Claire talks about how women are constrained by society and how she wants to break free from those constraints and to be able to make her own decisions that affect her own life. Caleb is also a feminist, because after he stops being a jerk to her, he supports this. (view spoiler)[I also love how he doesn't try to hem her in at the end, when he finally goes after her, and just asks to be able to accompany her and her chosen art instructor on her travels. (hide spoiler)] What I didn't like: 1) I really didn't like the character of Caleb for most of the book. He had some bad shit happen in his past, true, but that didn't give him cause to treat every English person in the book (except Poppy) like they were beneath him. He deliberately went out of his way to discourage Claire's artistic pursuits by insulting her work without even looking at it and lashed out at her at numerous times because he was hurting and wanted to take it out on someone. I didn't like this at all. 2) All of the focus on Poppy, Claire's sister-in-law. While I appreciated that Caleb was good friends with her, it was really weird to have another woman mentioned so much in a romance and mostly by the "hero." 3) The pacing was a bit off, and it often felt like nothing was happening except a rehashing of feelings. 4) I really felt like you need to read a couple of series before this one to fully enjoy the book (the lost lords one for sure, as well as Poppy's book). I don't like it when you have to read an author's entire back catalogue to feel like you can understand a book in a new series. Old characters making cameos? I'm okay with that. Huge plot points that were developed in other series and keep being referenced here? Not so okay with that. 5) I didn't get the initial pull between Claire and Caleb. I'm not sure that I would have if I'd read prior series (see #4 above), but I'm guessing maybe it might have been easier to get? As it stood, it kind of felt like it came out of nowhere. I do plan on picking up the next book in the series, because I want to see what the author does with Faye.

Amazing how Christi brings the dark to light and the despair to happiness through the incredible pages of her imagination... Who will be next?

One of the marvelous things about Ms. Caldwell's books is the chance to visit with friends. This is no exception. We met Caleb and Claire in The Lost Lords series. Each is looking for something, never truly knowing what it is. They need each other to pull back the layers and bring out the raw hurts, angers and frustrations. Ms. Caldwell is such an expert in gracefully aiding her characters to see the lightness, the hope and the love that is awaiting them, if they have the courage to grab hold. Claire is so strong and determined, but lacks the personal knowledge that she deserves all her dreams to come true. I liked that she took her destiny into her own hands and set out to find her place and her life despite the Ton. She has a quick wit and sometimes too quick a mouth, but that is one of her endearing qualities. Taking on the shame of her parents is hard not to do when the very society she grew up in turns on her and her siblings. I was glad there was not a lot of her mother in the story, just enough to remind you that greed and sense of entitlement has always been alive and well. I devoured this book. This book is the first in a new series and I am anxious to see who we meet next. The characters are so well written and have such rich conversations you can't help but enjoy the journey. Ms. Caldwell explores the lives of those who are thrust into scandal by the very people who are supposed to protect you, parents. These children have grown up thinking their lives are one way only to be striped of everything and vilified by people once thought of as friends. With a light touch Ms. Caldwell helps both Claire and Caleb see that their points of view, while valid, were still clouded with emotion. I give this 4.5 stars. DISCLAIMER: I received a complementary copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review. This has not affected my review in anyway.

Amy ~ Love At 1st Read

“Sometimes when you’re searching too hard for something, you direct your gaze outward so much that you miss what is right before you, the beauty to be captured.” The New Year just started with a bang! With as many historical romances as I read, I find so many of them often blur together. Same trope, same plot, same characters, etc. That’s why I love Christi Caldwell. She always puts a fresh spin on every story she writes. She always puts a fresh spin on every story she writes. If this first book in her new Scandalous Affairs series is any indication, this series will be absolutely splendorous. A great cast of characters and some truly funny scenarios all wrapped up into a beautiful romance. I adored Claire and Caleb. Both had events in their pasts that had altered the paths they’d thought their lives would take. For both, art was their one constant. Their solace. One would think they’d instantly fall in love. One would be wrong. These two were like oil and water. And that’s exactly what made the whole story so incredibly fabulous. Caleb couldn’t help but needle Claire and she couldn’t resist baiting him. So when these two are thrown together through the most splendid comedy of errors, you know their journey to love will be un-put-downable. I loved watching these two going from being adversaries to establishing an ease neither had thought to know again with another. Where anger had once come so easily, soon it was impossible to hold tight to that sentiment whenever the other was near. Claire opened his eyes to the narrow way he viewed the world and Caleb showed her she need not continue to own decisions she’d no control of. This story had me giggling and tearing up at the same time. The matchless banter was delightful. And all that sexual tension stewing under the surface kept me up reading well into the wee hours of the morning. I can’t wait to see what’s next in this series. Finally, 2021 is looking good.

Determined to make her own way in the world away from polite society’s scorn and not be a burden to her beloved family she tries to enlist the help of Poppy’s art instructor the taciturn Caleb Grey, our reluctant hero. They are brought together by chance and it forces them each to face their painful pasts through their joint love of art. Through a few bumps along the way love blossoms and they each find the muse once thought lost forever. Just when I think she can’t possibly get better Christi proves me wrong and delivers a book of the highest quality. Her writing goes from strength to strength. I can say with all honesty no one comes close to her in regency romance, her characters have depth and a rawness to them. The subject matter has a realness to it which can be difficult to read at times but again this is what sets her apart and in a class of her own. I cannot recommend this book enough, you don’t have to read the Lost Lords to understand this book but after you read this you will want to.

I love the Lost Lord’s series and now to see what happened to a family whose life was destroyed by the scandal is insightful and a great story! We find Claire a social outcast by the very people she once felt were her friends. Caleb Gray is teaching her sister-in-law about painting and Claire wants lessons too. Caleb is an angry American who hates most anything British especially entitled aristocrats. She approaches Caleb Gray about artist lessens, but the man is very rude, arrogant and he refuses to even look at her artist sketch pad. Claire decides to take her own life back and decides to have a life she wants and not be a burden to her family and strikes out on her own, but who does she meet in her travels. Caleb and Claire are fiery together, their chemistry is explosive and the story is too. I love their witty banter as they try to insult and antagonize each other, but when the sparks fly so does the attraction they can no longer deny. I have voluntarily read and reviewed this excellent story.

I enjoyed the heck out of this book! It was definitely Christi Caldwell's most steamy, and I am 100% here for it! I liked this book more than I expected to. I wanted to shake him a bit, but I also understand that he is mentally in a very dark place. I don't hold it against him. ;) The ending was quick. I wish that it had stretched on a bit. As I have said many a time before, Christi Caldwell doesn't write the common historical romance, she writes the books that we didn't know we needed in our lives, she writes for the spectrum of abilities, for beyond the bounds of social hierarchy, and opens your eyes and helps you to fall in love.

Every once in a while, you come across a story that just grabs hold of your heart and soul. Claire and Caleb's story is one such tale. Claire is suffering because of the evil actions of her parents. She is lost and trying to keep going. Caleb is angry, hurt, suffering because of the evil actions of being impressed by the British and its consequences. I don't want to spoil this story. It's so well written, every emotion you have will be torn from you. Christi Caldwell never ceases to amaze with her plots or her deep understanding of the human psychology. And every time she brings life and light to broken souls. Claire and Caleb are no exception, yet there is such a newness to their characters. They hate each other with such intensity, and then they love each other with so much fierceness! The passion in them burns strong in bold colours of red, orange and yellow! An exceptionally beautiful story, which should never be missed.

Claire and Caleb This one was a bit heartbreaking. I had no idea of how it work out until the very end. I've been wondering how this write keeps upping her stories, making them better each time. I'm not sure how she does it but this is better than the last book I read! Caleb is perfect as the hard-hearted painter with what he thinks is a black heart. Claire see's the world with her eyes wide open ready to take on her own life, with both having as their first love - painting. Great Read! A Groom of Her Own, the first book in Christi Caldwell’s Scandalous Affairs series is a truly great read! Her characters Caleb, an American artist and Claire, a disgraced debutante with an artist’s soul, whose family is responsible for kidnapping a child to steal his title, are like fire and oil, and when they get together, boy do the sparks fly! I love the way Christi Caldwell has blended together the characters and back story from two previous series, to create this new series, but Great Read! This is another great book by Christi Caldwell. We have met both Claire and Caleb in Poppy and Tristans book. Claire is Tristans sister and was left trying to figure out how to be happy after the scandal their parents where involved in. She is fiery and strong yet sweet. Caleb is a bit of a grouch after the terrible things he lived through. The two test each other and never back down from sharing their opinions with the other. Claire just wants to paint pictures and preferably get lessons from artist Caleb. Caleb is an American who hates the English and sees Claire as an annoying spoiled girl. When Claire takes matters into her own hands and agrees to answer an ad in a newspaper for a bride, she ventures out to meet her groom. Caleb tries to prevent her from making a mistake by marrying someone she doesn’t even know. This was a great story. It took me a few minutes to remember the characters from previous books but then it all came back to me. The h is naive and spunky and the H is closed off and haunted. I did like how the story unfolded and the interaction between the two characters. It was a little predictable but a great ride. This is a story you just need to sit back and relax and enjoy! Winner for this first book in a new series for our author. This book has everything you would want in a romance, will there be a HEA or not. The emotional roller coaster is well worth taking, to the conclusion. A triumphant first book in series This is a triumphantly written first book in what promises to be a great series. The plot is one of emotional turmoil and a woman overcoming societal pressures. The characters are brilliantly crafted, with the hero full of fears and the heroine having the strength and determination to achieve her goals. This is a great book that would be suitable for anybody who loves steamy historical romances.

Oh goodness this book is boring. So much inner dialogue that you start to lose focus on numerous occasions. The bickering between the H&H is annoying especially when there is a huge lack of chemistry. I couldn't take the boredom much longer so I stopped at Chapter 14 where absolutely nothing exciting happened up to that point...I was just taking time away from reading another book. Sorry to the author because I like some of per previous books. Oh goodness this book is boring. So much inner dialogue that you start to lose focus on numerous occasions. I was excitedly anticipating this book as I enjoyed Claire's and Caleb's banter from "Courting Poppy Tidemore;" however was very disappointed in their interactions and development in this book. They spent way too much repetitive time fighting. I love a good enemies-to-lovers when written well with great chemistry. This book fell short on all accounts! Oh and as an American I was offended by stereotype because we all say "yeah" instead of "yes" just like Caleb character who is American....
