This was so beautiful and sweet and just what I needed. I devoured this story. The connection between Cole and Laney was immediate and right from the first chapter I was hooked. He is sexy and offered plenty of swoony, heartfelt moments between he and Laney. It was beautiful the way he breaks down her walls. Cole and Laney’s time in Rome was a whirlwind but can they make it last when they are back in New York? They had their obstacles around their jobs and family but in the end I was left with happiness in my heart for them. I love the message of family, hope and new beginnings. I can always count on Layla Hagen to deliver on her romance and this one was no different. I highly recommend it to romance readers that love the family dynamic and a sweet, low angst love story. *Advanced reader copy received in exchange of an honest review.

***ARC Provided by the Author*** 3.5 Stars I enjoyed this book. In a lot of ways, it felt like an easy and happy read. Yes, there were some serious elements and things that happened, but I also liked that both Cole and Laney were fairly open about how they felt and what they wanted. It made this a book that was just pleasant to read, without a lot of angst but all of the romance...and sometimes that is nice. I loved the idea that they met as a pseudo set-up while both of them were in Rome. I loved ***ARC Provided by the Author*** 3.5 Stars I enjoyed this book. While this is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone with minor spoilers regarding the couples in previous books (but, we all know they got their HEA, so is it really a spoiler?). I enjoyed and recommend this title.

I have to say Layla Hagen has become my number 1 author for the swoony romance story. I know if I am looking for a romance novel that isn’t angsty, doesn’t have a lot of outside drama and will take my mind off of things for awhile....Layla’s just the author to do that. This book is the 4th in this series and is a stand-alone novel told in Dual POV. This is a family saga series so you will see interconnected characters but I don’t think these books have to be read in order. I thought the flow and pace of this story was perfect. I loved Cole and Laney. They are such a sweet couple and their chemistry was off the charts. Laney has been through something traumatic in her past so she has thrown herself into her work as a doctor...that is until she meets Cole and he shows her there is more to life. But can Cole break down Laney’s walls and get her to open up fully to him? Will they get their HEA?? Read this story to find out. I would definitely recommend this book to all romance readers!!

4⭐️ This is my second ARC from Layla Hagen. It's a second chance, sort of love at first sight romance. It reminded me a little bit about When You're Ready by JL Berg where our heroine was struggling with the guilt of moving on. I love how she grew and developed as the pages turned. Dealing with grief has no timeline. I love that Cole was persistent in breaking down her walls. I love Cole and Laney's story. It's heart-wrenching and heart-warming at the same time. It's sexy, sweet and swoony. 4⭐️ This is my second ARC from Layla Hagen. It's a second chance, sort of love at first sight romance. But now he misses her and desperately wants to see her again. What's a guy to do? Call on his family for advice, that's what! Laney misses Cole too, but she can't let herself get caught up in what was just supposed to be a favor for a friend. She's got baggage and isn't sure she's ready to put her heart back on the line again, even for a gorgeous, charming sweetheart like Cole. Except, the more she's around him, around his large, welcoming family, her heart keeps getting in deeper. Perhaps she can open herself back up to love, if Cole and the Winchester clan are the ones offering that love. I loved Laney and Cole! She's so sweet with such a compassionate heart, the perfect doctor. And Cole is just so sweet and persistent that it's no wonder Laney couldn't resist him. This is definitely my favorite of the series, so sweet, so passionate, and the Winchester siblings and the ones they fall in love with are fabulous. I love that they meet by chance in Rome, and an instant connection and fast friendship that later developed into a passionate romance. This low-angst book is filled with lots of sweet moments as these two get to know one another when they are both back in their hometown of New York. We meet the Winchester family in previous editions of this series, as each of the siblings finds love. Although I have read the other books and highly recommend them, you could jump in and read One Beautiful Promise as a standalone. Lanely is smart and confident, but vulnerable and hesitant to begin a relationship as she was widowed at a young age. Her work and education have become her focus, but she can’t help but be smitten by Cole and all of his never-ending charm. He sure knows how to make the moves and is a first class hot and handsome gentleman to boot, with a dirty mouth and eyes only for our hardworking heroine. I love how genuine and caring she is, how she gets to know his family, and how easily they all get along. It’s refreshing to read a series that is just enjoyable and hopeful, without all the drama and tension. One Beautiful Promise will put a smile on your face for sure as Lanely lets down her guard and lets her heart fall in love again.

Cole being a tourist and Laney being a tour guide seemed like a great way for them to get to know each other initially without any real pressure. I really enjoyed the realistic pacing of their connection once they were both back in New York. And, Laney really impressed me with how compassionate she was as a surgeon and doctor. There was a nice mix of romantic tension and moments that made me smile. My top favorite scene was the first time they fell asleep together. Charming, cute and lovable; that’s what truly resumes this beautiful story!

Cole And Laney Find Passion And Romance In Rome In This Steamy Story About Family! This book is the fourth in a New York-based series about the Winchester family. It is Cole Winchester and Laney Smith’s story. It is absolutely a stand-alone; however, fans will appreciate learning more about this close-knit family by reading the series in order. That extra Cole And Laney Find Passion And Romance In Rome In This Steamy Story About Family! This book is the fourth in a New York-based series about the Winchester family. It is Cole Winchester and Laney Smith’s story. It is absolutely a stand-alone; however, fans will appreciate learning more about this close-knit family by reading the series in order. In the first book, much was learned about the downfall of the Winchester family and their Caldwell cousin, who works to redeem his family name. That extra insight adds depth to later books, as the family members are shaped by their past. It makes Ryker's leap from irresistible bachelor to commitment-ready beau all the more real, explains Skye’s hesitations in a relationship, and Cole’s reluctance to allow anything to distract himself from achieving financial security and ensuring his family’s well-being. From the first book: Powerful and headstrong Hunter Caldwell, thirty-two, owned one of the largest real estate development companies in country. The Caldwell name was famous in New York. While Hunter's professional success and generous charitable efforts defined him as a powerhouse to be reckoned with, many remembered his late father's success and subsequent failure in real estate development, quietly sneering about parallels and gleefully anticipating Hunter's downfall. Hunter was driven by the desire to avoid the downward spiral that destroyed his family and hoped to restore the family's good name. Hunter's life had changed at age fourteen when his father died and his mother returned to her native England. Hunter didn't want to leave America - the country he called home since the tender age of four - and it worked out that he earned a scholarship at a private boarding school. Hunter's Winchester cousins experienced a similar downfall at the same time, which resulted in their father abandoning the family and eventually remarrying, leaving the children scarred. Months after Hunter began at his boarding school, his Aunt Amelia relocated to the same area, along with his four cousins, and he felt the warmth of family again as they pulled him into their family circle. Amelia, his maternal aunt, became a second mother to him and his cousins felt like siblings. They became an important part of his life. Josie Gallagher, thirty, is on the brink of achieving her life's goal of becoming a partner in her law firm. She misses her family in Montana (siblings Ian, Dylan, and Isabelle), but she loves her life in New York. She hopes to be married and have kids one day, but none of her relationships have gotten too serious - perhaps in no small part due to her devotion to her career. She is thankful for the Winchesters, who make her feel so much a part of their family. And of course for Hunter, her best friend of fifteen years. Her relationship with Hunter is complicated. She crushed on him for a long time before mostly accepting that they will only ever be friends. Still, sometimes her hopes have her wondering if maybe Hunter has feelings for her, too. In book two: Thirty year old Ryker Winchester is the laid back Winchester brother. He is smart, loyal, fun, and hard-working - and nicknamed the Flirt. Director at The Pearman Fund by day and playing guitar at Northern Lights by night from time to time, he is equally comfortable in a custom suit or a leather jacket and jeans. Ryker is great at compartmentalizing, which aided his meteoric rise to Director of a big venture capital firm. The outlet for all that concentration and pressure is performing on stage and collecting guitars. All his extra time goes to his family, and he is always there to help out when needed. Ryker is fiercely protective of them, and they all appreciate what their mom went through to raise four children on her own. Which is why Ryker has no tolerance for men that don't respect women. Ryker hasn't ever had a serious relationship himself - his relationships are casual - but he is honest and honorable. He expected that he, his brother Cole, and Hunter would be eternal bachelors, but Hunter just got married to Josie and things are changing. Heather Prescott, twenty-eight, is building a career in journalism at a national newspaper while raising her seven year old daughter, Avery. When she meets her boyfriend at Northern Lights one night, she has no idea that her life is about to change. From book three: Skye Winchester, thirty-two, recently took the leap from employee to entrepreneur. She had been a biotech major in college and worked in R&D for several years. But that hadn’t fully prepared her for becoming a business woman and lingerie designer. Soho Lingerie had started as an online store that she and her sister Tess started together, but after years of juggling a day job and the web store, they took the leap and opened a brick and mortar store in Soho. Several months back their investor had jumped ship, causing them to rethink their plans, but with the help of her tight-knit family they have been able to trudge forward. Robert Dumont, thirty-three, is returning to New York after four years in L.A. as CEO of Dumont’s West Coast restaurant chain, and taking over as Dumont’s East Coast CEO. He wants to live near his newly-divorced sister Anne and his eight year old niece Lindsay, who are both struggling with the change in their lives. When Robert looks at yet another home in the suburbs near Anne’s home, there is something about it that calls to him, though it isn’t quite everything he wanted. And the woman showing the home as a favor to her neighbors has captured his attention. In this book: The story opens in March, when newlywed Skye is seven months pregnant. Cole Winchester, roughly thirty, is the youngest of the Winchester clan. He is nicknamed the charmer, and for good reason. He plays a good game and knows how to win the girl. He never gets serious, though. His commitment is to his job, his family (to include his mom, cousin, and siblings) and to his bachelor lifestyle. He had been the last remaining member of the bachelor pack, but had since reformed the club to include Josie’s brothers, Ian and Dylan. Cole remembers how difficult times were when his parents divorced and his mom struggled to raise him and his siblings, and he never wants to see his family struggle again. When Hunter started Caldwell Real Estate and asked Cole to be his partner, he had jumped at the opportunity. For Cole, it is about the money and the security it represents. He loves landing a new deal, but he also wants to ensure that his family is taken care of, even if they are too stubborn to accept help. He and Hunter make a great team. Hunter’s focus is strategy, while Cole is a problem solver. He is the Chief Operations Officer. As he and Hunter look to expand their business holdings to Europe, Cole finds himself in Rome for a tough but rewarding week of negotiations with Delimano, their new partner in a Rome shopping cener. Laney Smith, probably about twenty-eight, is a surgical resident at The Liberty in New York. She is taking full advantage of every minute of her off time during her two month assignment in Rome. She had jumped at the opportunity and hasn’t regretted it for a moment. Since her arrival, she has come to love the city of Rome and its riich history. She has one week to go before retuning to New York, her home for the last two years. She had gone to college and medical school in Philadelphia, but had needed a change after Ryan died. There were too many painful reminders of her late husband there, so she had opted to move elsewhere for her residency. Her job keeps her too busy for much of a life, which is a good thing since she isn’t ready to move on. Fortunately Isabelle just followed her to New York, and she won’t feel so alone anymore. Isabelle, her best friend of twenty years, and her brothers Ian and Dylan, were like family to Laney, having all grown up in a small Montana town together. So when Isabelle’s sister Josie asks Laney to meet up with her cousin-in-law Cole who is in Rome for the week, she doesn’t hesitate to agree. Cole and Laney meet for dinner in Rome, neither expecting to feel sparks. But when it turns into two days of exploring the ancient city with one another, they both feel something inside shift. Nevertheless, neither is looking for a relationship, so they agree to leave it at that. Cole expects to keep his end of the bargain since he has never wanted more from a woman before, but by the time Laney flies back he understands that there is nothing normal about how he feels for her. Cole’s charming ways help to nudge Laney along as they explore what it is that they might feel for one another, but she still hesitates to move on. Cole’s cool confidence helps him to seamlessly shift from devoted bachelor to patient admirer. Laney’s desire and joy for life return to her when Cole enters her life. Her passion and consideration for others elevate her in Cole’s eyes, who can see her fitting into his close-knit family. Their maturity and sense of family contribute to a sense of realism (wealth aside). There is very little unnecessary drama as Cole and Laney get to know one another and put their past hang-ups behind. The couple earns a happy for now ending. Cole and Laney’s story is a sweet romance that brings Josie’s family even closer into the Winchester circle. Though Josie had left Montana years ago, Isabelle, Dylan, and Ian are close, and Laney is like a sister to them all. Tess is now the only remaining single Winchester, though there are extended family members and friends that could conceivably get their own stories as well. One issue metis mention. It seems unlikely that Josie hadn’t been in touch with Laney for the past two years. Though busy, certainly the Winchesters would have met Laney or have known about her prior to Josie asking Cole to meet Laney for dinner. Cole and Laney find passion and romance in Rome in this steamy romance about family. The story is well-written. The plot is realistic. The characters are well-developed. The story is written in first person. The POV alternates between Cole and Laney. I rate this book four stars. I received an advance copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

If you’re new to the Very Irresistible Bachelors series of which this is the fourth book, don’t worry, this book can be easily read as a standalone. The series revolves around the romantic lives of the Winchester siblings Tess, Skye (Robert) Ryker (Heather) Cole (Laney) and cousin Hunter (Josie). The Winchesters are a very tight knit family so even if you haven’t read the other books you’ll get to see all of them and their significant others in this story. This book focuses on Cole the youngest sibling and the last single and most confirmed bachelor of the three men. The sibling’s father abandoned their family, devastating their mother when they were young which left Cole not believing in love and marriage and not wanting to be a party to messy breakups. So now in his late twenties or early thirties Cole’s dating life has been limited to very brief hookups with no emotional entanglements. One of the things I really liked about this story is that the author didn’t take the predictable, easy way out for a story about a confirmed bachelor and make it about Cole being attracted to someone but fighting his feelings for her, refusing to admit he even had feelings or was falling in love. No, as this story opens Cole is in Italy for a business deal. Cousin Hunter’s wife Josie’s younger sister Isabella has a BFF Laney Smith, a doctor who has been working at a hospital in Rome for the past several months. Isabella suggests that if Cole has time, he meet up with Laney who knows Rome well and can give him some tips on what to see before he returns to the States. This relationship between Isabelle and Laney is a brilliant way to keep Isabelle prominent in this story as I’m certain she and her two brothers will be the subjects or their own future books. In fact, the entire Winchester family has embraced Josie’s siblings making them part of their extended family. So, they all appear frequently in this and the previous book. None more so than Isabelle who now has the dual role of being both Josie’s little sister but also Laney’s sister of the heart. Best of all it doesn’t feel like Isabelle has been forced into the story just so we become familiar with the character so we want to read her story. Very cleverly done Layla! Cole the confirmed bachelor is immediately smitten with Laney Smith the beautiful surgical resident who as it happens will be returning to NYC shortly after Cole does to continue her surgical residency at Liberty Hospital. Instead of being a story about Cole refusing to acknowledge the depth of his feelings for Laney, this is the story of Cole trying to win both her heart and her trust as Laney struggles to put her sad history behind her. I like that Cole isn’t shy about expressing his feelings to Laney. In fact both Cole and Laney are pretty open in sharing their feelings with one another. The problem here is our good doctor as she tells Cole early on has some serious emotional baggage along with a career that doesn’t leave her any time for a social life. Laney married her college sweetheart right after finishing medical school. Six months into their marriage he dies of a heart attack caused by an undetected heart condition. It’s been two years now and Laney hasn’t done anything but bury herself in her work. Which isn’t difficult considering the demands on her time as a surgical resident. She hasn’t even thought of dating. The idea makes her uncomfortable. Until she meets the stunningly handsome and charming Cole Winchester whose family nickname is “the Charmer.” Maybe it’s a “guy thing” but if I had to read Laney say, “Oh that man” one more time I think I might scream. Which is one of the very few complaints I had with this story. My other minor complaint is the seeming inconsistency with Laney’s income. On one had she lives in a shoebox of an apartment and talks about getting something better when she finishes her residency and makes more money. She says the same thing about being able to afford to send her parents on nice vacations. On the other hand she buys two expensive coffee makers as gifts while she’s in Italy and has enough money to offer to loan Isabelle money to cover her first and last months rent on an office space. Despite them agreeing to “what happens in Rome stays in Rome” (not that anything really happened) Laney is ever present on Cole’s mind after he returns home. Within a week he calls her and asks her out. Laney also hasn’t been able to get the handsome and charming Cole off her mind so she accepts. They flirt and share some hot kisses. Understanding Laney has baggage (although she’s yet to reveal what it is) Cole tells Laney they can go as slow as she wants to. Again, this is a major sea change for Cole whose M.O. had always been one-night stands. Laney pretty quickly finds her libido over ruling her fears of intimacy and they have plenty of steamy sex. Laney is quickly adopted into the Winchester family where as an only child she relishes becoming part of this big loving and supportive family. As a reader I keep waiting for the inevitable “other shoe” to drop that will cause the couple to struggle before they can live happily ever after. (view spoiler)[ My only real complaint about this story is Laney freaking out at the gala when Tess says she can now see Cole as husband material. My first problem is that Laney can’t understand why the idea of Cole as a husband causes her to freak out. She’s a doctor who has been through therapy to overcome the loss of her late husband. It doesn’t take Sigmund Freud to understand it stems from her unexpected loss of her first husband. Then Cole who has promised her they can go as slow as she needs to and they’ll take it one day at a time is upset at her reaction even though he’s aware of her history. She’s already confessed to him that she’s madly in love with him (which IMHO is huge) and even confessed to imagining them together raising a family. Why does he have to get bent out of shape because she had a momentary freak out when Tess brings up the idea of marriage? (hide spoiler)] In actuality this event is pretty much low on drama and angst and is resolved rather quickly. Ultimately One Beautiful Promise is pretty much everything I want in a contemporary romance. There’s plenty of romance, plenty of sexy times, there’s the happy feels that come from the inclusion of a loving supportive family. The characters from the previous books in the series make plenty of appearances which is always a big plus in my book when I’m reading a series. The drama and angst is minimal. The H.E.A. is sweet. While the author does use the opportunity to set up future characters stories it’s not overdone and doesn’t dominate the epilogue and take away from our current couple’s H.E.A. as some authors do devoting entire epilogues to the next book in the series. Now only the oldest Winchester sibling Tess (a wonderful character) needs to be rewarded for her eternal optimism about love and find her forever love. I am so looking forward to Tess getting her H.E.A.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars Cole Winchester is one of the very eligible bachelors of the Winchester brothers. He’s is the youngest of the boys and yet is very protective of his family. He’s driven and focused and is fine with random, casual relationships. He was in Rome on a business trip when a mutual friend of theirs somehow set them up to hang out. Laney Smith took on a short residential exchange in Rome that coincided with Cole’s trip but she really works as a surgical resident at a hospital in New York City. She is beautiful, hardworking, and smart. She has been living and breathing her career so meeting Cole at a foreign country, referred to her by a good friend to show him around, came as a pleasant surprise. The story is from both the main character’s POVs and readers will enjoy how each one rationalizes the moments together and how they approach the relationship. There is a realization on both parties about each other – some insecurities, uncertainty but somehow there are no “rash decisions”, which is a big relief for me. This is a first time read for me with the author and it was a really good experience. I enjoyed the characters and the plot. They were all easy to relate to and love from the beginning. This book is part 4 of the Very Irresistible Bachelor series but even coming in the middle of the series did not give me any problems with jumping to the plot immediately. This is wonderful since there were books in the past that didn’t work for me on this. I came in excited that sustained till the end of the book. I love the tight-knit relationship of Cole’s family members and their rules of “no secret between family members’. It is a good rule to abide by a family so they can help out anyone before it’s too late. Cole’s siblings are very supportive that is why everything seems to work out well for Cole in his career (with Hunter at the office) and in his personal life (with Tess and Ryker). This is how families should be…supportive and loving. Sometimes you were too close to your own problems, and it helped to have the family’s perspective. We knew each other so well that nonverbal cues were enough to pick up if something wasn’t okay. — Cole, One Beautiful Promise The chemistry of Cole and Laney is good. It has a good pace for me, not the insta-love that a lot swoon over but an attraction based on wanting to know more about the person. I like these types of romances since it brings some rational thought and consideration. There were not crazy emotions going all over the place and both Cole and Laney are a good match with their personalities. I’d always been the type who liked to keep things casual and not tie myself down, and yet now, all I wanted to do was fight Laney’s fears, fulfill her dreams, anticipate her needs. She’d become an integral part of my life, and I wanted to keep it this way. — Cole, One Beautiful Promise There is some drama of Lacey finally getting over her past and moving on…the timing couldn’t have been better since meeting Cole but there are still a lot of things that she needs sorting out. They met in Rome without committing to anything even if the attraction grew ...but Cole then sought her out when she got back to New York since he was having strong feelings about her by then. There was something about Cole that brought back the “fire” in Lacey after the tragedy that she went through. She thought she lost it and will just carry the burden. The characters are easy-going and honest with each other. Both are willing to take time to ‘wait’ for the other to disclose details on their own time. I miss books like these that it’s decently “smooth sailing” that is rarely offered to me. I love the flirtations going on between both characters. There is so much witty and sweet banter that even the critical readers will not consider them as “too cheesy”. The ending was perfect since I love how it turned out. These are both smart people so don’t expect much irrational’ outbursts. I am delighted with everything how everything turned out. I think I’m turning into a “softie” for these types of romances. There is some 'self-doubt', not too much be frustrated. I love the gentleness and passion all rolled into one for both Cole and Laney. Perfect…just perfectly for me! My very brave man who’d bared all his emotions to me. I hadn’t been prepared for all his beautiful words. They touched me so deeply that my eyes were misty. — Laney, One Beautiful Promise I highly recommend this book to readers who love romantic stories with caring family members all around. The story is sweet and gets you all positive from start to finish. It’s a great read with relatable characters that will surely make you swoon, just like the cover! Also, I would like to recommend the series because there were hints of the other characters that got me interested in what is in-store for Tess or Isabelle.

I received an ARC of One Beautiful Promise by Layla Hagen for an honest review. I can truly say that the books in this series keep getting better and better, and I think that One Beautiful Promise is my favorite, I have said that after I have read each book in the series. Layla Hagen has once again shown that she in an amazing storyteller. One Beautiful Promise is the fourth book in the Very Irresistible Bachelor series. I loved every page of One Beautiful Promise and could not put it down. Layla Hagen definitely did not disappoint with One Beautiful Promise. I really enjoy how she writes her stories in the first person from the perspective of the main characters. I love knowing what the main characters are thinking and feeling. I love the lighter moments where I found myself smiling and laughing. My favorite moments are the ones that cause me to sigh, say aww to myself with tears filling my eyes. One Beautiful Promise is the love story of Laney Smith, general surgery resident and Cole Winchester, the Charmer, COO of Caldwell Real Estate. Laney and Cole first meet in Rome. Laney is there doing a rotation in general surgery and Cole just completed a deal with an Italian company for a partnership. Laney is the best friend of Isabelle Gallagher, Josie’s sister. Isabelle set up the meeting between Laney and Cole. They enjoyed their short time in Rome together, but left each other saying, “what happened in Rome, stays in Rome.” When Cole returns to New York, he realizes that he wants to explore a relationship with Laney. Both Laney and Cole, work long hours, but begin spending time together when they can squeeze in. Their relationship quickly escalates to a sizzling romance, but they want to take things slowly, and not make too many plans for the future. Laney continues to deal with her feelings regarding the sudden death of her husband two years ago after only being married for six months. Cole loves that Laney always takes care of others and put their needs ahead of her own, especially when Skye suffers complications with her pregnancy. Laney and Cole admit their true feelings for one another, but Cole is concerned about Laney’s reaction when Tess teases him about being husband material. Cole confronts Laney and lets her know how he really feels. I love Laney and Cole's story and the descriptions of the Rome and NY settings. One Beautiful Promise felt like a family reunion and catching up with all the other characters from the other books in the series. I love the characters and the family dynamic in One Beautiful Promise, they feel like family. I enjoy all the interactions among the Winchester siblings and meeting the Gallagher siblings, it feels like real family love and makes me laugh at their teasing, I especially love the Winchester family "no secret" policy. One Beautiful Promise is filled with all the elements that I have come to love and expect in Layla Hagen stories. I love the bittersweet and poignant moments, as well as the surprise plot twists. One Beautiful Promise was a wonderful story. So glad that Cole found his one, and his happily ever after, even though he really was not looking for one. I especially love how the book title is integrated into Cole’s proposal. I cannot wait for Tess to discover her irresistible bachelor.

Cole and Laney are charming together- and who doesn’t love a love story that begins with a romantic Roman interlude? When in Rome! . Our youngest Winchester, Cole, is a renowned charmer- he knows just how to soothe ladies. While he’s committed to his job as a real estate developer and his beloved family, he’s not been interested in a romantic commitment- he’s been the consummate bachelor- in part because of some of his life experiences with his own parent’s divorce. In his partnership with Hunter, they decide to look into expanding their business into Europe- leading Cole to romantic Rome for important negotiations. By chance or fate, he crosses paths with fellow New Yorker, Laney a surgical resident who is soaking up all of her time in Rome. Laney has had a rough few years- recently widowed, she’s been immersing herself in work and a new home to deal with her grief. Through some mutual friends and connections, she ends up meeting Cole while they are both in Rome- and there is an immediate spark and connection- that magical romantic jolt. But they both have reasons to avoid a long lasting connection, so they decided to let Rome stay in Rome. But best laid plans never pan out- and neither is able to deny their beautiful chemistry. Their connection follows them back to New York, where they really start to explore their feelings. Cole charms Laney and is patient as she tries to open her heart to someone else, and Laney slowly starts to find her happiness again through her bond with Cole. Their romance is so incredibly sweet and low angst- the kind of romance with a quiet, tender, and carefully meted connection that grows organically as these two evolve. Like Cole, their love story is charming and so endearing. Plus we get more time with the delightful Winchester crew from the prior books. I loved both Cole and Laney. Laney is such a wonderful heroine- she’s smart and self-assured, but she has a softness to her. She’s so genuine and empathetic and supportive to others- and she’s passionate and driven in her career. And Cole is just so swoon worthy- he’s a gentleman with a dirty mouth and it is oh so sexy. He has charisma ,and the gentle and supportive way he loves Laney is so sweet. I love Layla Hagen because we always get a sweet and hopeful depiction of low- no unnecessary drama, no contrived obstacles, just a realistic and tender depiction of what it looks like to get to know someone, the quiet and intimate way people fall in love. Her books always warm my heart- they are equal parts sexy and sweet- and I always think “this is how romance should be.” Her characters are always likable, relatable, and well-developed- the kind of characters you root for and understand. This series has been such a delight!

One Beautiful Promise is the fourth installment of the Very Irresistible Bachelor series. This is the story of Cole and Laney. She offers to show him around Rome and they have a great time together while away. They decide to enjoy each other, but only while they’re in Rome. Laney is getting ready to go back to New York and continue her surgical residency where she has no life because she works all the time. She has recently lost her husband of only 6 months and is avoiding her grief by hiding in her work. Once they return home they have no plans to see each other again, though they spend a good amount of time thinking of the other, Laney runs into Cole at the hospital when Skye is rushed to the hospital due to pregnancy complications and the whole family goes. They are both so happy to see each other and they decide to spend some time together, though they don’t have much free time due to very busy work schedules. Their relationship slowly moves forward as they develop a friendship that blossoms into more. There’s no angst or drama, just a sweet friends to lovers to more story. They each have some baggage that they need to deal with in order for their HEA, but each decides that the work to do so is worth it. I very much like Cole and really like him with Laney. She is just the absolute right person for him because she makes him work for it because she doesn’t want marriage again due to the pain of her previous experience. While he is trying to win her over, he comes to the realization that a long term relationship is exactly what he wants. Cole is just right for her because of his patient determination to help her learn to trust again and open up her heart for something long term. One of the things I like best about Ms. Hagen’s stories is her focus on family and the family dynamics. The Winchester family is so tight knit and I love that they all show up in each other’s stories. The teasing and strong support of each other is so real and you kinda wish you were there with them! I absolutely LOVE the whole ‘tell the truth at all times’ idea. If more families had this concept, maybe there would be less misunderstandings and better relationships. This concept shows up in every book and is a pivotal point for the character. Loved Cole and Laney and can not wait for Tess to find her mate! Maybe Isabel, Dylan and Ian will get their HEAs too! I have always thought Ryker was my favorite but I think Cole may have unseated him! Definitely read this story, it is so sweet and hopeful that you can’t help but fall in love with both characters. I received this story as an ARC and this is my unbiased review.

Each book of this series has introduced us to one of the Winchester children (plus Hunter, their cousin). With four of them plus Hunter, there are stories to be told, and Hagen has done a fine job of crafting this series within her book universe. With this story, Hagen gives us Cole Winchester. Nicknamed “The Charmer,” everyone believes it will be a long time before Cole finds his soulmate. In fact, Cole takes pride in being a single man with no encumbrances. He is the Winchester most known to tease his cousin, brother, and sister for their journey into loving relationships. On a trip to Rome for business, he’s encouraged to meet Laney, a medical resident studying there for a time. And it is there where she captures his heart. At its core, One Beautiful Promise is a story about second chances. This isn’t the second chance trope that we’re used to reading. Instead, OBP is predominately Laney’s story as she must overcome her past in order to find a present and future with Cole. In it, Hagen shows her readers how to fall, how to embrace new opportunities through her characterization of Laney. We find that hiding behind work or anything else only presents a life with little meaning. Through the course of the story, we see her transformation, and that occurs because Cole shows her how to live an abundant life. Yes, Cole is a confirmed bachelor, proud of his meaningless hook-ups. However, as the story progresses, Cole’s character suggests that the right woman can turn any man into a “forever” kind of man. One Beautiful Promise is very sweet. It isn’t angsty, and it’s easy to see how Cole and Laney fall in love. For me, it’s my least favorite of the Winchester stories because it feels a little one-note at times. For all of his singleness, Cole falls pretty fast for Laney, and he never looks back. I would have liked to see him struggle with that a bit more. But this story is what Hagen does best: offering up romance that allows you to feel good all the way through it.

'One Beautiful Promise' is one beautiful swoon worthy story. I once again walked the streets of Rome as Layla Hagen brought the sights, sounds and tastes of that great city to life at the start of another smash hit by this talented writer. I can feel the limoncello sliding down my throat and taste the Lemon as it explodes on my tongue and once again as Cole and Laney did I remembered the wonder at gazing upon the beautiful Trevi Fountain as I threw my coin into the water and made my wish!
