RIP. Deeply saddened to hear of Anna's death today after a year-long struggle with cancer. I loved reading her books to my son, and he loved them too. These stories, and her wonderful illustrations, will always mean a lot to me. They are perfect reading material to share with your little ones. RIP. I absolutely love reading this one aloud to my daughter, Therese! The rhyming is so perfectly cadenced and she always giggles at the scrunched up mad face little llama makes when he is sooooo tired of waiting on his mama. A fun, fun read and good to remind "baby llamas" that mama is always there. I absolutely love reading this one aloud to my daughter, Therese! Even though this is a children's board book, I am including it in my adult shelf. Because I think this book might have saved my bacon. My two-year-old has not been sleeping well. She fights off sleep at bedtime, asking for "more song" and "mama sleeps too" and "mama sit," and no matter that I do what she asks, she immediately wants the opposite. And heaven help me if I just *leave the room*. But when a different family member takes the point on naptime or bedtime, she lays down quietly and falls asleep on her own. It was pretty clear to me that it was something about Mama -- either her knowledge that if Mama said it, it would be so, and she's in a period of exercising her independence, or an anxiety over Mama being "not right here." The fraught bedtime translates in to a fraught night. Waking up after just a couple hours, and spending a couple hours wanting to redo the bedtime routine. Lots of tears. Llama Llama Red Pajama is the story of Baby Llama, in his red pajamas, who reads a story with his Mama Llama....you get the idea. Mama Llama goes downstairs to get a cup of water for Baby, and is distracted by dishes and a phone call. Baby Llama freaks out that Mama Llama is GONE. Mama Llama rushes back in a frenzy and reassures Baby Llama that "Mama Llama's always near, even if she's not *right here*." Girl Child was entranced by this book. Her favorite page, of course, is the one where Mama Llama comes back. As Child and Daddy read this story together at bedtime (after I'd already read it twice with her), I deliberately went in and out of her room as much as possible sorting laundry and picking up toys to illustrate that Mama always comes back when she leaves. And then the bedtime routine began. She climbed in bed. We sang one bedtime song. She asked for another. I said I was going to go sit with Daddy for five minutes and if she was awake when I came back, we'd sing another song. She nodded. I went, set a timer, and then returned. She was awake, so we sang a song. She asked for another and I said I'd be back in five minutes. She nodded. I went and set the timer again. After five minutes, I went in and rubbed her back. I don't know if she was awake or asleep. I suspect awake. But she didn't make a peep and she slept straight through til 6:30 this morning. We are going to try for a repeat of this miracle tonight. Our first solid night of sleep in OVER TWO WEEKS!

This review is on behalf of my toddler who has gone back to this book time and time again while we’re under the stay-at-home order. Nothing makes her happier than the little stuffed llama throughout the book and the kisses she gets on her head whenever we read about Mama Llama giving kisses. Also, I wanted this book on Goodreads because I am counting this book in my 2020 reading challenge under the prompt “Children’s Book.”

I don't get why this is so loved. Baby llama has separation anxiety at bed time and has a tantrum. Mama llama reassures him that she'll always be there. The end. Anyone with kids knows that one reassurance won't change behaviour. And, if your kids don't already have separation anxiety at bedtime, DON'T READ THIS TO THEM! Baby llama's anxiety is illustrated dramatically and will definitely put the idea in their heads. I don't get why this is so loved. Baby llama has separation anxiety at bed time and has a tantrum. I love this book! I chose this book because I read this book to my kids. I absolutely love how accurate this book is when it comes to bedtime and kids. Never fails this is how my children behaved at bedtime. I like how its a book of reassurance to kids and they can see it. They can see in the book that mama sometimes is doing other things, it doesn't mean she is gone. I love this book! I chose this book because I read this book to my kids. The llama drama for the mama llama is enough to soil the red pajama, but in the end baby llama learns to keep everything shama-llama with the ding-dong. "Baby llama don't cause such a tizzy, sometimes mama llama's busy!" Gets better with every read. Oddly enough, I did not view a video containing the entirety of the text of the book being read aloud and some of the pictures being shown for any reason having to do with my brother's imminent baby. That said, it's probably a lot more enjoyable when you do have a small child around to experience it with you! I love the cadence that this is read at and the message of patient for toddler's to master. The Washington post recently did a list of books to read each year between 1 and 100 and this was the 2 year old installment (the Hungry Caterpillar is for one year olds and Where the Wild Things Are is for three year olds, in case you are wondering). Highly recommended. I love the cadence that this is read at and the message of patient for toddler's to master. My husband, daughter, and I all love the Llama Llama books, but my husband and I refuse to read this to our 2.5 year old. In the story, Llama Llama pretty much has a temper tantrum when his mom puts him into bed and goes to the kitchen to get something. Although Anna Dewdney always includes a little lesson in her book (about patience, for example), we feared that our little one would just focus on the bad behavior and not see the desired behavior. To be fair, this book is a fun read, filled with rhyme, relatible thoughts, and great illustrations. Perhaps we'll bring this book back out in a few years. Or perhaps we'll just focus on our other Llama Llama favorites. To each their own, right?

This book was one of my first favorites when I started working at a daycare. The infants and toddlers loved hearing this story over and over again and again. I think what they children loved most was the expressions illustrated in the story. You can see the many emotions little Llama and Mama Llama feel such as worry, anger, impatience and contentment. While reading this book aloud I love to emphasis those emotions. The rhyming in this story make it a fun and catchy read a loud.

I didn't read this, exactly. And even though I labelled this in my shelf of audiobooks, I didn't exactly listen to the audiobook either. But! I did listen to Ludacris rap it, sooooo that counts, right? http://www.scarymommy.com/ludacris-ra... Update: I actually read the physical copy. And listened to like...5 other rappers "read" it.
