As a mom of three special needs, kids on the Autism Spectrum home storage have been relegated to the last item on my list of concerns. However, I went ahead and read this book and was amazed at how many comfortable things I could do along the way. When we had fewer kids, we did strive to get a 3-6 months' worth of supplied together in our tiny condo, including storing a small emergency kit in the car and at work. But, as soon as our kids started exhibiting food sensitivity issues, the basics required in most food supplies (i.e., flour, oats, sugar, powdered milk, legumes) no longer made sense for our unusual family. But the beauty of the Crisis Preparedness Handbook is that it is a comprehensive easy to read tool to help modify self-reliance to meet your family's needs. It is well organized, has clear explanations, personal/relatable experiences from the author, and covers everything you might ever worry about in being prepared. You do not have to read the book straight through. You can identify the areas that you want to work on and focus on those specifics. Every section has room for notes, tables to help you calculate your family needs, and links to more information or tools. For our family, I focused on Section 2, which has four chapters covering water supplies and filtration, and was pleased to note I was ahead of the game. The book helped me identify additional water sources around the home, store water, and a specific section on the difference between filters, iodine tablets, and more. While the food storage information was helpful, I chose not to focus on that at this time as we are still trying to normalize our family's diet. However, I have bookmarked those chapters to return to when I am better positioned to focus. I am fascinated by the details included in growing and harvesting your own food for storage as we have had our own raised garden beds in our postage-stamp-sized back yard for years. Yes, my kids might not eat a lot of what I grow, but my husband and I do. So, I loved the information that reaffirmed what I already knew and yet gave me several options to expand and modify in the future. I have also tagged the sections on Communication, Transportation, and Protection for a Crisis to reread more thoroughly. I want to make sure we are up to date on what we do to identify new ways our family can prepare. The Crisis Preparedness Handbook really is a plethora of valuable information to help prepare for all kinds of emergency situations. I highly recommend this handbook to everyone as a staple in their home. After reading this book, I have marked what our family can work on for the moment without being overwhelmed. I have a friend that works for the National Red Cross that had told me I should store a bit of cash in a safe place each payday in case of a long term power outage that takes out ATMs and anything we'd usually pay for with a debit card. This book reaffirmed that need. Now when I go to the story, and the self-checkout machine asks me if I want cashback, I click on "Yes" then store it in a safe location in the house for times of need.

This 3rd edition of "Crisis Preparedness Handbook" is a great addition to anyone's library. I'd always tried to practice and believed in the importance of being prepared with food storage, having raised a family with 8 children. I LOVE the worksheets that I can download anytime, tables, checklists, and other tools the authors give in this book. I even found the table of contents to be extremely helpful because I was able to go straight to the sections that I knew applied to me right now. There are a lot of things to do to be completely prepared for any crisis, but I like how this book lays out the steps we need to take in a very logical and easy to use format. It even suggests areas I had never really thought about experiencing (like pandemics). I think considering the unexpected ‘surprises’ we’ve all seen in today’s world, we should never discount anything anymore. Worksheet 2.1 puts that in perspective. I also really liked the alternative livelihoods section. When the time comes you need to survive in a world that’s gone crazy, a loaf of bread can be worth it’s weight in a pound of gold. Many scintillating thoughts to grow there. Even though I thought I was prepared, I couldn't put it down. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to everyone that wants to get better prepared for any kind of emergency or crisis we may face. Whether you are a beginner or an expert in preparedness, there are useful tips and tools in this book and you'd learn a lot. There may be one or two of these under family’s Christmas trees this year.

Understanding that not every reader will be a hardcore survivalist, the book lays out varying levels of preparedness depending on the level of effort you are willing to exert. As the book itself states, it's intended to be first and foremost a reference guide, and readers are encouraged to pick and choose the parts that work for their lifestyles. Not every reader will need every bit of information in the book, but it's safe to say every reader will benefit from its advice.

This 3rd edition of "Crisis Preparedness Handbook" is like an encyclopedia for preparedness. I was definitely not prepared in January when a crisis hit our family, nor when another hit in February, and another hit in March. I have a busy business, and a busy family, so trying to get prepared all at once was previously too overwhelming for me. Now, with this book, easy steps to take, worksheets to help me along the way, and check lists to help me know where to start first, I feel like getting prepared for crises is something I can manage. I know I have a long ways to go to be fully prepared for most things, but at least I'm heading in the right direction now, and I have a path to follow.

With all the craziness in 2020, when I saw "Crisis Preparedness Handbook" I thought it would be a good idea to get it. I've never really been a prepper type person, but I know I need to get better prepared for emergencies. I was a little intimidated by it being such a long book, but I'm so glad I got it! I love that the authors put in at the beginning of every chapter "5 Things You Can DO Now." And I also really appreciate the checklists worksheets to help me get started. I never would have known otherwise what preparedness products to buy, but now I have some great ideas. I recommend this book to everyone, no matter where they are on the preparedness scale.

This book is very beneficial for anyone who seeks to become prepared for all types of natural disasters. There’s so much helpful information and it’s categorized in such a way that we can read in order of what’s most important for us at this moment, in terms of personal prep work. The best part is that the author has added “Personally Speaking” segments to each chapter, which gives us a view of her personal experiences with the content and makes it very relatable. This book is definitely meant to be reference guide. I don’t recommend reading from cover to cover if you haven’t really thought through at least some of the concepts described, or it could be overwhelming. Just pick a topic you have thought about, or even worried a little about, and follow the rabbit hole. The book is well done, written in a way most everyone can follow easily, and full of practical knowledge. Overall a great tool for your knowledge toolkit.

I don’t like to give spoilers on the books that I read. I believe the blurb on the back is enough for you to decide if you will read the book or not. If you choose to read, enjoy!
