This is a Romance Suspense, and this is the 6st book in the Heart of Texas series. I hate that this series is said to be a romance book because they are not. It is more suspense then romance, and this book is not a cute romance book by any means. There is some hot and steamy moments in this book. The characters in this book is great, and this book is very well-written. There is a big twist at the end, and I have to say I really did not see it coming. 3.5 Stars I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. While this book is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone. Jace is still trying to struggle with a broken heart since Taryn walked away five years ago. His friends try to help him move on, but he just can't. He thinks his dreams of her are feeling too real but realizes he's not dreaming because he spots her and soon they are reunited. Jace should feel angry at Taryn for leaving him, but she explains to him that 3.5 Stars I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Jace's history with the military could prove to be an advantage given what Taryn is up against and he soon recruits his friends who also have special military skills. Jace and Taryn's reunion confirms that their feelings never changed and they vow to do everything they can to build a future together, but they have a big dangerous hurdle to deal with. There is a surprise twist to the plot that adds to the intensity of the plotline. I rtead this story in one sitting and it had a good pace with suspense and urgency. I'm not sure how much "cowboy" was in the storyline, but it was still entertaining.

I can't believe we are now on Book 6 in Donna Grant's Heart of Texas seies! The fans of the series are going to be very happy to revisit Clearview and see the familiar characters. There's also a new love story- this time it's Jace's turn... Jace's friends are worried about him. It's been five years since his girlfriend Taryn left him. He never got a closure. All she left was a hurried note...His family all disappeared leaving their possessions behind. But Jace just keeps thinking about Taryn. All she left was a hurried note...His family all disappeared leaving their possessions behind. But Jace just keeps thinking about Taryn. Sometimes there is really just One woman for you and that's it. Now it seeems that his imagination and his broken heart have been playing tricks with him- he thinks he might have seen her in a car in Clearview. Five years ago Taryn's life turned into a nightmare (view spoiler)[ when her father and her brother got addicted to drugs. They got so indebted that a drug king pin kidnapped the whole family to keep them in virtual slavery and force them sell drugs on the streets. Taryn's father and her brother got killed in front of her. Taryn's younger sister Payton is the only member of her family left and Taryn will do anything to save her, including getting a hefty sum of money, a price for their freedom. Even shady criminals won't lend her the money, once they catch a whiff of who she is indentured to. (hide spoiler)] Taryn is tired and scared and can only think of one man who has never let her down- Jace. Can the book be read as a standalone? Yes, Donna Grant provides a brief recap of the challenges the previous five couples faced on their way to happiness. Having said that, I think at this stage it is almost too much of the backstory for a new reader to enjoy the book fully- it is better to start from the earlier books. The series is all about friendships, loyalty, families you are born into and families you make. It is about strong, protective men and strong, independent women.(view spoiler)[ Taryn has sacrificed everything for her father and her siblings, so you can see how she fits in this close-knit group of friends. (hide spoiler)] Loyalty is her main characteristic and, to be honest, we don't get to know her that much beyond this. Jace is clearly the One for her as she is for him. After all, they spent five years pining for each other...There are some very steamy scenes, once they get back together, so if this is not your kind of thing, you can skip them. I would have prefered a bit more dialogue, more emotional catch-up, but I guess there are different ways of showing you care. The book is fast paced and there's a lot of action, especially towards the end, which is understandable, since Jace and his friends are all either ex-military or are in the law enforcement. There are a few twists that I didn't expect at all. If you have been following the series, you are probably going to read the book in one sitting, and then will start waiting for the next story. Ryan's? or perhaps Ryan's mysterious cousin is going to get his own book? Thank you to NetGalley and St.Martin's for the ARC provided in exchange for an honest opinion. 3.5

I have read several of Donna Grant's books in this series, so I was prepared for the hot ex-special-forces cowboys coming to the rescue of someone in a tough place. What I was not prepared for but loved was the intensity of this story! Jace has been torn up for the past 5 years or so since Taryn left town one night with her family and no explanation, just as Jace was going to propose. When she shows up again at his door is when the story takes off. Excellent, excellent read!

ARC received for review Well, I was looking forward to Jace's story, but it just dragged in places plus I wanted to know all of his back story from his time in the service. Then there was all the drama with Taryn. I just wanted to slap her upside the head several times. There was no lack of heat, sex, drama or angst between these two. There's lots of help from all the previous peeps, and there are a couple more guys to get HEAs. She will do anything it takes to break the bonds for her freedom but will she put Jace in the line of fire? Can she even stop him? I loved Jace and Taryn together, they had great chemistry and worked well together. This story had a major twist that I can honestly say I didn't see coming and that is a rarity. I have added the previous books to my TBR shelf and I'm not sure if this is the last of the series or not but there are a couple of other characters I would love stories of but I can see the author breaking them apart for a different series so only time will tell if that happens. Loads of action and a sweet romance. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ One thing about this series, I wouldn’t go into thinking that it is simply a cowboy romance. These books, and this story, is so much more than that. This is a story about a group of ex-military guys that go all in to protect their own. This book is not as much on the cowboy part as it is on the ex-military part. Protecting their own is number one for these guys and Jace is especially all in for this romance when we swears he saw Taryn in tow Loads of action and a sweet romance. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ One thing about this series, I wouldn’t go into thinking that it is simply a cowboy romance. This is a romantic suspense with a wild twist at the end that really blows your mind about family and friends! Grant balances the right amount of romance to suspense which turns this book into an engrossing easy read that totally satisfies all of your senses! While Taryn was not a favorite character at certain points for me, Jace was a hottie that perfectly fit the bill. Kind, loving, uber protective, and a bit of a bad ass! What I love about most standalone series is that you get a great group of side characters that follow along in each book until most of them become a main character. I've enjoyed him as a side character and I really liked him as a main character. His love for Taryn never went away even years after she just upped and left town on him. His dedication to her is always what I'm looking for. Taryn was put in a very tough spot when she disappeared and I really didn't see how she could have done anything else. Sometimes second chance love irritates me because of the reason of the break up but that is not the case in this situation. Actually, I ended up being very angry on Taryn's behalf when a few truths come out. Now there were a few unbelievable things about this story, but it is a story. Besides those things, I did enjoy the overall plot. The strong heroine who has survived for years but at a point of desperation she goes to the one man who she can count on the most. The fact that Jace didn't even hesitate to step in and was willing to do anything he could to get her out of the danger and back in his life. It was all a very compelling love story.

A Cowboy Kind of Love by Donna Grant is the sixth novel in the Heart of Texas series. This romantic suspense offered plenty of heat and surprises. This story belongs to Jace Wilder, and while this is sixth in a series, each book has its own storyline and romance. With the help of his friends he has been trying to move on with his life… but there have been stumbling blocks, like the anniversary of the night they first met. When Taryn Hillman returns, she comes seeking help and the story she tells has Jace calling his friends. I loved returning to Clearview, Texas and seeing the men and women whose stories I know. Jace is a sweetie who has had a tough time. This second chance romance pulled at your heartstrings. Taryn’s story for leaving is a dark one, and she and her sister are in grave danger. It was fun seeing the gang come together to aid Jace and Tarayn. Grant delivered plenty of suspense and did so while throwing in twists, secrets and jaw dropping discoveries. Despite the incredibly fast-paced tempo of this story, Grant made this second chance romance feel genuine. She delivered heat, tender moments and allowed the reader to feel connected. Topics addressed include PTSD, drug lords, trafficking, and special ops. I am looking forward to returning to Clearview for more stories. This review was originally posted at Caffeinated Reviewer

If you enjoy second chance romance then this book will hit the spot. If you want steamy romance then this story has plenty of that. Fancy the idea of hot, ex service guys coming to the rescue ? There does seem to be a lot of nasty, bad guys in Texas because every book in this series has the characters tripping over new ones ! This book like it's predecessors has hot romance, suspense, action and of course those gorgeous military types who always have each other's backs. If I'm honest I didn't really like the heroine and at times I found it difficult to believe that she was apparently so successful at her 'job' that keeping her working was so important. However I really enjoyed the twist at the end although obviously my lips are sealed. So this is book six and as it ends there are other characters introduced so clearly there are at least two or even three Heart of Texas books still to come so saddle up because there's still riding to do ! The pacing pulled me into the story from the first page to the last. Ms. Grant adds greatly to the story with her suspenseful scenes! Taryn Tillman is the heroine in this tale. She hasn’t been back to Clearview since she took off five years ago. I enjoyed her character a great deal, even though I questioned several of her decisions. Jace Wilder is a great hero, and I quickly became vested in his character. He’s ex-military and hasn’t forgotten how to plan or how execute a covert operation. His loyalty and love for Taryn is amazing, even though I questioned why he was still carrying a torch for her after so many years with no contact. The romance between Taryn and Jace heats up fast, and they pick up where they left off. I enjoyed them as a couple, but I struggled with believing they both fell into each other’s arms so easily after five years. Jace gets over his anger and hurt very fast. Nonetheless, I did want them to find their happy ending. If you enjoy contemporary romances with a good bit of action and nail-biting suspense, then you will love A Cowboy Kind of Love as much as I did. I’ve enjoyed the Heart of Texas series. Happy reading!

There is so much I want to say about this story but can’t because it would all be spoilers. She is living thru the middle of a many-year nightmare of a life. It will take all Jace has, along with all his friends and their families, to get Taryn out of her life nightmare but it is an amazing story that will take your breath away. Love, love, love Jace! He is perfect for Taryn.

Jace depends on his friends’ assistance to help Taryn from her predicament. What dangers await Jace and his friends? Will their military skillset be a match against a dangerous crime boss? Taryn Hillman’s life is a living nightmare. She must sell drugs for a ruthless criminal kingpin to save her sister’s life. Taryn hatches a plan to escape, but first, she needs money to buy him off. There is only one person she can turn to; however, she has misgivings about involving Jace in her mess. Will Taryn finally escape Boyd Walters for good? What sacrifices must she make? Does Taryn dare hope for a happily-ever-after with Jace? Jace is such a delicious, damaged knight-in-shining-armor with a heart-of-gold. There is little he would not do to help his friends and family, even at great risk to his life. Jace has demonstrated this throughout the series. I admire Jace’s ability to acknowledge some difficult facts about himself before they turned into a serious problem. He makes no excuses but owns up to them. What I adore the most about Jace is his thoughtfulness towards his friends. He does not want to intrude on their happiness with their significant others with his mental and emotional troubles. I could not connect with Taryn. For some reason, she just irked me. I empathized with Taryn for all she had to endure for her family’s sake. She willingly sacrifices her happiness and future to protect and aid them. What I like the most about Taryn is her reluctance to involve Jace and his friends. As much as she needed their help, she did not want to jeopardize their lives. A COWBOY KIND OF LOVE is book six in Donna Grant’s romantic-suspense series, HEART OF TEXAS. The story can standalone, but I suggest reading the previous five books to understand the heroes’ strong and unshakable bond. I love how the couples from the prior books show up intermittently throughout the story, especially Abby and Clayton. The only nitpick I have is the trope. The second-chance element really killed my excitement for Jace’s story. I guess I wanted something more for him. A COWBOY KIND OF LOVE is a suspenseful tale of two people overcoming incredible obstacles to be together again. I cannot wait to see who will be next! Ryan or Cash.

Great storyline I liked this story, it has love, action and great characters. All the characters is developed in to different personalities I especially liked that the story is more about the situation itself than packed with love scenes. The author had me curious about a couple of characters and if they would have a happy ending Good dialogues and lots of them. And what an unexpected twist in the end....... 5 star for good entertainment I received an ARC of this book and give my honest review

I cannot get enough of these characters! Each one is their own individual gold but together as a friend group it just a masterpiece. There's nothing like the man who can take care of business unless you get a woman who is strong enough to do it as well. Jace is every woman’s dream. Except he only wants Taryn, who gutted him when she left him 5 years ago without any explanation. She’s been through hell and back when she reappears in his life. He demands answers. I love this series. Strong men with covert ops backgrounds means action packed reading. I loved how intense Jace was in his feelings for Taryn. I’m a fool for reading that kind of emotion. And it was satisfying to read how good triumphs over evil. I’m a sucker for those stories too. The Jace is every woman’s dream. There's something about a hero how loves his heroine long after she's gone because he KNOWS she's his one and only. That alone will make a reader swoon and want to know more. Jace can't help Taryn alone so the whole cast is back in the macho toughness tagging along wives and kids. Taryn's dad's and brother's pasts caught up with her when she disappeared all those years ago. Through no fault of her own, and because she cared too much and felt to obliged to be her family's savior, she's spent this time away from the one man she will ever love committing crimes she's hates. Her return to Clearview is to get the money to finally set her free but in addition to the funds she's found herself an entire group of the best former special forces operators willing to do whatever it takes to put the man terrorizing her behind bars. Or in the ground. I enjoyed both Jace and Taryn. I'm a sucker for love that transcends time, place and situations. Grant paces the action well and keeps the story tense and engrossing. I wasn't sure how she'd get Taryn and everyone else out of this predicament but she did and did it well. Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the ARC.

This story stands alone, but we have appearances by all the prior couples. I need a flowchart to keep track of everyone! Jace Wilder, former Marine Raider and POW and now a rancher, is still trying to get his life back together five years after Taryn Hillman, the love of his life, disappeared from Clearview, Texas. He never heard from her once she left...but now she's back, and in serious trouble. Her life fell apart the night she was forced to leave Jace, and now that she may have a chance to free herself from her horrifying situation, she heads back to Clearview. The years apart have not dimmed the deep love and affection they have for each other. Jace vows to do everything in his power to protect Taryn. But will they survive to have the opportunity to finally have the life together they so deserve? Once again Donna Grant returns us to Clearview, Texas, a place that now feels like home. The series still feels fresh, and like the previous books there is excitement and action as well as deep love between the hero and heroine. I loved Jace and Taryn as a couple. They loved each other when Taryn was ripped away from Jace's life and that love still exists despite five years apart. Jace would do anything to help Taryn take back her life and escape from the horrible situation she was forced into. Their physical attraction is still strong as ever, and we are treated to some lovely steamy bits here throughout the story. As much as I liked the romance, however, it was Jace's relationships with his friends that I found the most touching. They had been brothers in arms, and now they could not be closer than actual brothers. As Jace would do anything to protect Taryn, his friends would protect the two of them no matter the consequences. My only problem was keeping their names straight and trying to remember which man was with which woman and their stories! But still, I had a blast reading this. There was a twist near the end that totally surprised me; it's great to still be surprised after so many installments in the series. I'm so, so hoping that Sheriff Ryan gets his own shot at love. Pretty please? I received an ARC of this book courtesy of the publisher and NetGalley. I received no compensation for my review, and all thoughts and opinions expressed are entirely my own.

A Cowboy Kind of Love is the sixth book in Donna Grant's Heart of Texas series, and while I liked it more than most of the previous novels in the series, I had mixed feelings about this one, which I'll get to, but at best, I can only give this novel 4 stars. I liked it but didn't love it. First, the very misleading title--if you're looking for a cowboy romance, this isn't it. Aside from a couple of horseback rides, this novel has absolutely nothing to do with being a cowboy or ranch life. I liked it but didn't love it. First, the very misleading title--if you're looking for a cowboy romance, this isn't it. Aside from a couple of horseback rides, this novel has absolutely nothing to do with being a cowboy or ranch life. Instead, it is a a dark, steamy, novel that combines insta-love, a second chance romance with graphic sex, and it's more a novel of suspense and graphic violence. The hero, Jace, a former Special Ops team member, one who was captured and tortured, Once retired from his military career, he was devastated when the woman that he fell in love with at first sight, Taryn, and her entire family disappeared from town 5 years earlier. He's spent a lot of that time looking for her, moping and drinking himself into a stupor. His Special Ops buddies, who all seem to live in and around the small town of Clearview, Texas, have tried to help him, but it hasn't worked. In the previous novels, these men all found their perfect partners, and it was easy to assume that Jace would do the same. Then suddenly, Taryn, reappears in town, but she isn't forthcoming about why, nor does she seek out Jace--she's looking to score $500,000, but is unsuccessful. When her last straw is asking Jace for the money, they reconnect and reaffirm their love for one another, verbally and sexually, there's still a lot going on that Taryn is unwilling to discuss. What Jace doesn't know about her situation is a lot, but he's about to find out. While I felt that the early part of this novel didn't have much forward momentum, when Taryn finally comes to Jace and asks him for the money, the pace picks up and all the Special Ops, undercover, local and state police and FBI friends get involved in Taryn's predicament and rescue, but there's more than one curveball I wasn't expecting, and the last third of this novel was so suspenseful and dangerous to all concerned that it had me riveted to this story, and just when you think it's over, it isn't--there's still one more curveball. There was one other problem I had, and it was with the way Taryn was introduced. I believe I would have appreciated more character development. All we know was that it was love/lust at first sight for both of them, but aside from waxing poetic about her beauty and physical perfection, what was it about her that Jace loved so deeply? What did she love about Jace? These are questions that I would have appreciated the author expanding upon. Taking the novel as a whole, I certainly think the title was misleading, the character development could have used some more attention, but as romantic suspense novels go, while it took a while to get going, it ended up being a rather well-written, engrossing and exciting read. I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this novel. The opinions expressed are my own.

I've read all the books in this series, so I was excited to finally get to read Jace's story. This book was high on the suspense and not so much on the romance. Honestly, it didn't bother me this time since the thrill of all that was going on kept me engaged and eager to finish the book as quickly as possible. But for some, you may miss the romance. This book was high on the suspense and not so much on the romance. Honestly, it didn't bother me this time since the thrill of all that was going on kept me engaged and eager to finish the book as quickly as possible. But for some, you may miss the romance. It's still there, but Jace and Taryn fell in love years before, so their love story was only put on pause for the 5 years they were apart and we miss the gradual build-up to love that you'd normally get in a new relationship. Jace was always the happy-go-lucky, food-addicted and loyal man with a tortured (literally) past we grew to love in previous books. I don't recall much being spoken about his past before, so it was nice to finally understand what he went through when he was in the military and why his heart was broken. Jace and Taryn were in love for a couple years and had already planned on getting married and starting a life together before she vanished with her family one night without much explanation. All Jace received was a text saying she had to leave and she ended things with him. What we didn't know until this book was that Taryn was forced to leave with her family by the leader of a huge Texas drug kingpin. Her father owed him money, her brother was also a druggie and they (including her younger sister) were all forced into servitude to pay off the debts. She's been holed up for 5 years now trying to pay off the debt and break free from the hold Boyd has on her and her sister. Now she's back in Clearview to try and gather the $500K she needs to buy her freedom. What she doesn't plan on happening is having Jace and the merry band of honorable and bada** men assist her. If you've read the previous books, you know how they work and that they'll stop at nothing to protect those they love. So you should expect nothing less from the group this time around. Only this time, we get even more than bargained for when some new players step up to help. That was a welcome surprise! The plot twist towards the end wasn't really a surprise for me. I honestly called that from early on in the book. Maybe that's why I read so quickly since I wanted to have my theory validated. It certainly didn't disappoint, although the whole scene in which it was revealed wrapped up way too quickly for my liking. For the first time in this series, the ending actually felt like ending and not an open-ended HFN I've come to expect with Ms. Grant. It was actually quite nice to get that closure. I do think there will at least be a spin-off, if not a continuation of the series with Ryan and Brick's stories (and maybe even Cash?). I can't wait to hear more about Brick! I think it's a toss-up as to whether this book or Clayton/Abby's book was my favorite. This one definitely had the better suspense. But both are still 5 star reads.

Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. Told from several third person perspectives A COWBOY KIND OF LOVE follows the rekindling romance and relationship between Jace Wilder, and Taryn Hillman. Five years earlier, Taryn walked away from the only man she would ever love leaving a heart broken Jace Wilder in her wake. Fast forward to present day wherein Taryn Hillman returns to her hometown of Clearview, Texas, desperate and searching for help. Enter Jace Wilder. What ensues is the rebuilding relationship between Taryn and Jace, and the potential fall-out as sins of the father have targeted our heroine. Jace Wilder struggles with issues of PTSD having survived torture and imprisonment while stationed overseas. The only balm to his pain was Taryn Hillman, the woman who ripped out his heart, never looking back. With Taryn’s return to Clearview, Texas, Jace battles between head and heart knowing he will forgive Taryn for anything including destroying his soul. Taryn Hillman is in trouble, and believes she can find a solution in Clearview, Texas but Taryn struggles with what was, and what will never be, including her one-time relationship with our story line hero. The relationship between Taryn and Jace is one of second chances. Taryn never wanted to walk away from the only man she would ever love but walking was never her choice when all she wanted to do was run back into his arms. Jace Wilder has struggled since he received the text from Taryn breaking his heart but Jace never expected Taryn to return, and never expected her to bring the wrath of h*ll in her wake. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text. There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including most of the previous story line heroes, all of whom are former or current members of law enforcement or the US military branches. We are introduced Taryn’s sister Payton; questionable yet powerful businessman Boyd Walters, and his right hand man Brick. Donna Grant has introduced several new characters with the potential for many more stories. A COWBOY KIND OF LOVE is a story of suspense, intrigue, betrayal and vengeance. A story of power and control, love and hate, forgiveness and acceptance. The character driven premise is haunting and edgy; the romance is captivating ; the characters are tragic, animated and spirited but if you are looking for a ‘cowboy’ feel to your story line, this is not the book. The story line is first and foremost a story of romantic suspense, the cowboy aspect is virtually non-existent. Copy supplied by Netgalley

His door was unlocked, which didn't concern him at the time, and as he made his way to the living room where he saw a shadow that appeared to be Taryn, then she was gone. After stopping at an intersection, he swore that Taryn pulled up next to him, and he attempted to follow but lost the vehicle. Thinking he was seeing things, he returned to the intersection where he last thought he saw her and traveled down the back roads discovered the vehicle parked at a hotel. He follows her to a restaurant, and after five years comes face to face with her. He didn't get the answers he sought. Taryn didn't want to leave five years ago but didn't have much of a choice. Now she's back in Clearview on a mission, Taryn is in trouble and requires a lot of money to complete her task. She calls a man, that she never wanted to see again, except she fails miserably at the task he entrusts her with. All her cards are exposed, where even the guys she is willing to turn to for help, send her on her way. There is one man that she knows will help her, although she is fully aware of the risks of him doing so. She is out of options and heads to see Jace. Once Jace hears Taryn out, he realizes that Taryn didn't abandon him, and he's going to get her the cash but despite her protesting, Jace is going to see her through this because he lost her once and he's not going to lose her again. It's become his mission and his friends who are more like his brothers put a plan together. Despite the risks to themselves, it's all for one and one for all! Jace and Taryn's love is enduring that despite all they've gone through, each never forgot the other. I love how the others jumped on board while accepting Taryn as one of their own. It goes to show that family doesn't always have to be blood. The ending hinted that the others were going to play matchmaker for Ryan, who after his divorce doesn't want a relationship so I'm hoping that means another book in the series! I requested and received an ARC from NetGalley via St. Martin's Press and I have voluntarily reviewed this book.

Rich description and character development draw readers right into the story, which is a quick read once the suspense and action kicks in. While the suspense elements are nicely developed, the romantic conflict between Jace and Taryn feels like it may be resolved just a little bit too soon before readers can really connect to both characters and their relationship fully. However, readers who don’t care for unnecessary drama may appreciate this. The novel can be read as a stand-alone, but characters and references to prior storylines do appear in this one. Readers who love emotional romantic suspense that is a bit dark in content, should like this one. Jace Wilder is still trying so hard to move on with his life, but how can he when he’s still yearning for the love of his life Taryn, who mysteriously disappeared with no warning? Especially after she returns to town years later just as suddenly, hiding dangerous secrets tied to her disappearance, her life in peril. Even though he knows he shouldn’t get involved with her again, how can he not? Seeing her again brings all those emotions and desires that he’s been trying so hard to bury – with work, alcohol, anything – rushing back to the surface. On the night that Taryn Hillman left the man she loved behind in Clearview without a word, her whole life and world fell apart and she couldn’t tell a soul about it. Not even the man she loved. After all this time, she takes her one chance to free herself from the horror show that her life has become, returning to her hometown and to Jace. Though she is reluctant to involve him, possibly endangering his life, she finds she doesn’t have much choice. She needs his help…she needs him. Can theses two trust and rely on each other and take a second chance to rediscover love? Grant makes a convincing case in this entertaining and surprisingly dark, suspenseful, contemporary romance.

But in my opinion, this felt more like a military romance / romantic suspense with a man that now lives in the country/small Texas town and wears a cowboy hat. Jace is a former Marine Raider and POW. He was in love with Taryn and had planned on asking her to marry him…that is until she left without a trace in the middle of the night through text. All communication devices were turned off and five years passed. Jace is still not over the one who got away. But what if the one who got away didn't run but was forced to leave. What would happen if she suddenly appeared back in Jace’s life? Would he understand? Would he forgive her? Would he be able to help her? Taryn is in a great deal of trouble with some unbelievably bad men and when she exhausts all avenues for help, she desperately reaches out to the only man she knows can help, the one man she shouldn’t get involved in her problems and the man she hurt so many years ago. This book is filled with suspense, a talented group of former SEALs and Special Forces type Alpha men, all willing to lay down their lives for their brother in need. But can this small group of men take down the evil threatening Taryn? I enjoyed each of the characters both MC and secondary characters. The story line was intriguing and the twists and turns kept me up way past my bedtime. The plot twist at the end was totally unexpected and I never saw that coming and normally I can peg a plot twist fairly easily so Bravo Ms. Grant Bravo! I enjoyed this book and will now read the previous books in the series! Great read, definite recommendation!

This book is the sixth book in Donna Grant’s Heart of Texas series. Technically they can all be read as stand-alone titles, but there are many minor characters in each book that don’t feel so minor, and the relationships and backstory can get a bit confusing. Technically they can all be read as stand-alone titles, but there are many minor characters in each book that don’t feel so minor, and the relationships and backstory can get a bit confusing. I’m still going to go back and read the entire series in order at some point in hopes that it makes a bit more sense when I do. For the sake of full disclosure, though, I have to admit that I feel like each time I pick up a book by this author, it’s a bit of a gamble. I’ve loved some of her books, and I’ve not cared for some of them. That seemed to be true in about equal measure. But it’s enough that I keep going back. The previous book in the series appeared to be the tie-breaker, and this book tipped the scale to the side of “I like most of this author’s books” even more, so I imagine I’ll keep reading them until the scales tip in the other direction. Jace and Taryn’s story is definitely a second chance romance. Jace is amazing. He’s continued to love his woman even when she (seemingly) stomped on his heart, never to be heard from again. But when Taryn returns with a heartbreakingly violent excuse, he can’t let her go back into the fray alone. This book felt more emotional. As in, the emotion was better conveyed in each chapter. It felt like the relationships and backstories were a little more cohesive, as well. While I can’t say it was necessarily realistic, we all know that sometimes truth can be stranger than fiction, so I’ll let that be. What I can say was a pleasant surprise, though, is that the twist was NOT one I saw coming until I was in the middle of reading the big reveal scene. So, while I was able to put this book down and walk away for bits of time, when it came to that, I was a bit floored (and that is a good thing!). All in all, I felt that this was a better story than the previous book, so they all seem to be improving as this series goes along. NICUnurse’s Rating: I give A Cowboy Kind of Love by Donna Grant 4 out of 5 stars!
