I received a sample of this cookbook from netgalley and look forward to reading the complete cookbook in the future! I love that more of these recipes use less of the processed ingredients. I also really enjoyed the Scripture references that are included. In just the small sample of recipes, there were many that I was interested in trying. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the arc. The opinions are my own.

Having read many of the author's Amish books, I was excited to see this cookbook made for healthier eating. I am often looking for ways to reduce the sugar out of our diet, and add more fiber. I was also excited to find recipes using the super foods, and this book gives me a lot of different ways to incorporate them into our diet. This is a very nice cookbook. I went through the book twice after I received it making notes as to the ones that I really wanted to try! I really enjoyed many of the recipes in this book and definitely plan to make a couple of them for my family. I like the information at the beginning that gives insight as to different herbs and foods to eat along with their benefits. I do wish there had been more recipes in the book but overall, the book is very informative and can’t wait to take advantage of some of the recipes!

WHY was I denied writing a review for this when I have reviewed all her previous cookbooks and bought every single Wanda book for our library?????? Well, I know people who know people who loaned me a copy of their sampler... and the publisher's loss, really, as I loved the book. Adored the book. I especially loved that the recipes were HEALTHY as a lot of Amish and Mennonite food is what I call farmer's food: hearty, calorie-heavy and yummy as it keeps one going during the manual labour outdoor and in. The sampler was much too short as I wanted to read and cook my way through the entire book. The recipes are well written and understandable by cooks of all levels and the photos make the food very appealing to myself and other lovers of food out there. There are some great tips in here for anyone looking to be more healthy and eat more healthily. What I especially love about the book is that it uses mostly whole ingredients instead of pre-prepared and packaged foods. I do draw the line at making my own cheese beyond a quickly-made mozzarella, and canning tomatoes but the more "ingredients" you use the better. My one nephew says that I never have any food in my house, only ingredients --- that is why I cook so much. I also refuse to eat or cook with Frankenfoods such as "chick'n" and its 88 ingredients vs. 🐔chicken🐔 having one!) As always, I try to find a reason to not rate with stars as I simply adore emojis (outside of their incessant use by "🙏-ed Social Influencer Millennials/#BachelorNation survivors/Tik-Tok and YouTube Millionaires/snowflakes etc. " on Instagram and Twitter... Get a real job, people!) so let's give it 🍲🍲🍲🍲🍲 This book is also cross reviewed at http://www.facebook.com/janetsbookcorner and https://janetcousineau.wixsite.com/we...

Wanda takes it a step further and has made a wonderful cookbook that is, for the most part, allergen-free. Many people have food allergies these days and are quite limited on the foods they can prepare at home. This cookbook takes allergen-free recipes to a whole new level. Foods and beverages that are healthy and tasty. Just what you need to keep your family happy, healthy, and feeling well. A 4 ingredient Peanut Butter Cookie recipe that is dairy-free and gluten-free. They taste wonderful! The book may not cater to your exact food allergies, but you can adapt the recipes to suit you, even easier than you could with a regular cookbook. For instance, I am allergic to dairy and cinnamon. I haven't found a replacement, so far for dairy, yet, but I use allspice in my baking to mimic the flavor of cinnamon and my family likes its flavor. Our household does not have gluten allergies, but I can substitute white flour for another flour that is in the recipe. There's a section on home remedies, there is a disclaimer that cautions you to use your own judgment, for them, because there really is no replacement for common sense. I like the Bible verses and adages spread throughout the cookbook, meant to uplift your heart while reading or creating delicious recipes. My most sincere thanks to #barbourbooks #barbour @barbourbooks for the complimentary copy of #wandaebrunstettersamishfriendshealthyoptionscookbook I was under no obligation to post a review.

Cons: - I find myself wishing there were more pictures. - Has a lot of religious mentions which makes sense given that it's an Amish Cookbook but may not be for everyone. - There isn't a huge selection of recipes. Usually about 4-5 per category. Would I recommend it? I'm on the fence about this one. The recipes do look yummy but there aren't that many of them and there aren't a lot of recipes that I don't already know how to make. If I was looking for a cookbook to buy in-store, this wouldn't be the one I would go for.

Who can turn down tested recipes that are actually good for you?! While this cookbook has the standard categories — main dishes, salads, breakfast foods, etc. — it was the snack options that grabbed my attention. It’s not that hard preparing healthy meals; my issue is not consuming yummy snacks that go straight to my hips 😉 . I chose No-Bake Energy Bites as a test. No-bake means easy in my book, and they were. They were also very tasty. I’m taking these along on a weekend road trip. Sorry convenience store candy bars! I look forward to trying more great recipes. There are plenty that are gluten free if you need that. Some I plan to try are Nutricious Baked Oatmeal, Cabbage Rolls, and Peanut Butter-Chocolate Granola Bars. Here’s to healthy and delicious eating! Recommended. Audience: families. Suggest you purchase this as you will be grateful for all the valuable information it contains.

I was not acquainted with a lot of the ingredients nor knew where I could find them except at a health foods store. At my age (70+), I am comfortable with my own tried and true recipes. Thanks to Ms. Brunstetter for going the extra mile for those in need of these kinds of recipes. I received a print copy of this book from Barbour Publishing but was not under any obligation to post a review. You can find this review on my blog at https://wp.me/p2pjIt-Cw. This cookbook is very well made and easy to use. I love that it is a spiral book that you can flip through the pages easily. The pictures that accompany recipes are vivid and make you want to run to the kitchen to start cooking. It is nice to have a cookbook that is a healthy option which includes scriptures. I am making the Southwest Skillet Supreme for dinner tonight which you can find on page 85. The recipes are easy to follow and most of the items needed are probably on hand in your pantry. With over two hundred recipes you are sure to find many you will want to try out. It was hard to decide what to cook first so I went to the main dishes first. I am a terrible cook, but with easy and simple ingredients and instructions I was able to make several home cooked meals. I recommend this to all those who love to cook and looking for a healthier choice in cooking. This is a great little cookbook with some neat options. I like the section on Super Foods and the Beverages which are unique and healthy. I have already tried the Berry Detox Smoothie and I love it using different berries all the time. Since I have a sweet tooth, I’m also looking forward to trying the desserts that swap out sugar and butter and use other alternatives like applesauce, black beans, almond flour, coconut oil, and more. At the end of the cookbook is a Home Remedy section which has recipes for everything from toothaches to insect bites. There is also a recipe for Vanilla-Lavender Bath Salts that I can’t wait to try. This is a delightful Amish Friends Cookbook with some great information and yummy pictures!

Thank you to NetGalley, the Publisher, and Author for the Arc of this book! As this was only a sample of the cookbook, I cannot speak of all the recipes contained therein. However, the ones I could read were quite fascinating. I'll definitely have to try some of these out! Perhaps the most interesting aspect to me was the beginning, where the different health benefits were discussed. I mean I knew Fruits and Veggies were good for you, but Wow! This cookbook was truly wonderful, and I highly recommend you check it out! God bless

Wanda Brunstetter's Amish Friends Healthy Options Cookbook is something unique in the fact that it covers great information on super foods, and health benefits from each fruit and vegetable. The index covers recipes by main ingredient or by section. My favs so far are Pumpkin Spice Latte, the Beverage section, Honey Mustard Chicken, and of course snacks & desserts. The bonus for me is the Misc. section that covers Natural Food Colorings, Jam recipes, Sauces & Dressings, Electrolyte Drinks, and H Wanda Brunstetter's Amish Friends Healthy Options Cookbook is something unique in the fact that it covers great information on super foods, and health benefits from each fruit and vegetable. The recipes I've tried so far are new to me, but I already had the ingredients on hand (most people will) & I was eager to try. It's a very nice way to shake up your food menu with new and great tasting foods that are healthy. I found this cookbook to be full of interesting recipes that I look forward to trying. Some will require me to buy a few healthy ingredients I don’t have in the house, but they are used in small amounts and can be used in many recipes. I like how the book is laid out not only in chapters by subject but then labeled dairy free, gluten free, nut free, etc. These labels are in different colors, making it very easy to recognize for use. So helpful for those of us who need to watch for different dietary needs. I will say I raised an eyebrow at the Home Remedies section. While some I can see as plausible, and even a few I use, others call for ingredients I would never use and border on dangerous. But it was still interesting to read. If you enjoy cookbooks, and want one that is different then most, then I recommend you give this one a try.
