I thought my life was over at forty. Turns out, it had only just begun... There’s nothing like experiencing delayed ‘magical-puberty’ at midlife, but that’s where I am. One world-altering secret revealed and my safety bubble snapped into thin air. Discovering I’m the next descendant in a long line of witches was eventful enough, but it’s nothing compared to finding out t I thought my life was over at forty. Turns out, it had only just begun... There’s nothing like experiencing delayed ‘magical-puberty’ at midlife, but that’s where I am. One world-altering secret revealed and my safety bubble snapped into thin air. Discovering I’m the next descendant in a long line of witches was eventful enough, but it’s nothing compared to finding out that I’m also the only half-fae-hybrid in existence. At least it got my mind off my divorce. Now, with my newfound abilities, the impossible seems possible and the world around me has come to life in ways I never imagined. But with every new blessing, there comes a curse. The Fae don’t like me. The Hunter’s Council is searching for me. And my sometimes-enemy, sometimes-crush, Hunter, has disappeared. I’m not sure I’m ready for what’s coming, but I’ll be damned if I let the next chapter in my life, be a short one. Divorce, Divination and…Destiny? I agree with Shannon. It's irritating when a 40 Year Old professional woman thinks and reacts like an adolescent. I found her to be more irritating and childish in this book. Perhaps that would be a normal reaction to the circumstances, but still.... I will keep reading to see if she snaps out of it. I agree with Shannon. It was good, as a piece of a book:/ I mean what happened?? They lost the book and they got it back. Way too short! And there were problems with the plot. They said the fae could not be more than 4 feet away from the book; yet he went deeper into the forest to find the two talking... without the book, as 1 example:/

I found it a struggle to finish this one. I just don't like the main character and I don't like the writing. It feels likes there's way too much explanation, and over explanation. It really takes me out of the experience. I especially noticed a particular example where there's a couple lines of dialogue that made the point very clearly. But then the next paragraph is the same idea explained - just really unnecessary. The mom and grandmom pretty much feel like caricatures, as does the main character actually. The middle-aged teenager discovers to her shock she has magic and she's also super special and super powerful; can pretty much do anything it occurs to her to try. And she falls in love immediately with an annoying man - and I just don't see any charisma. The narrator tells me it's there, that they're both totally taken with each other. But I'm just not seeing it. I think it might have been improved if it had been tightened up and was just a short story - there really wasn't enough in here for a novel. I don't know if it's gonna get any better but I'm not gonna bother reading anymore. My reading list is to long to force myself through a series I wanted to like.

So not as good as the first one. I read this online and I remember looking at how far I was into the book, 85% completed, and I thought something better happen soon. The story carried on from the first one fairly well. Two things bothered me in this story through. 1) Shannon is a 40 year old district attorney who in the story really acts like an impatient 20 year old. Not sure Shannon’s age and life experiences work well with her current character. 2) had high hopes for their non-magical part ti So not as good as the first one. Not sure Shannon’s age and life experiences work well with her current character. 2) had high hopes for their non-magical part time staffer but again, the age of the character doesn’t really go well with the others - why hire a teenager....Shannon’s 40, her mom is in her 60’s and her grandma 80’s. Another 40 year old character might have made more sense. Maybe the intro and removal of the character will have a purpose in future books. I’ll continue reading the series, as it’s still a bit different then other magical cozy mystery books. Fingers crossed the next one makes more sense.

I'm enjoying this series a lot. I love watching Shannon come out of herself and let go to just be her true self now that she knows the family secret, it's endearing she has lived her life not knowing she is part which and part fea so she conformed to what society thinks a ‘normal women’s’ life should be basically a career and a husband but that life never felt fully right for Shannon even though she dived in and gave it her all... With everything going on the store becomes an afterthought at times. Shannon gets put in charge of human resources. She has to hire a human to work on a real magic store, because nothing could go wrong there. Lol. Shannon does a lot of moping over Hunter. For reasons she thinks are true. However, she is way off from the truth. You get to see Grams acting like a teen. And Hunter pops back into Shannon's life. With an idea that just might save Shannon's life. A Lot Of Fun Shannon sucks at learning magic even though she has powerful fae magic. She just doesn't know how to use it. Enemies plague her and threaten her loved ones. Why does she have feelings of longing for Hunter even though he disappeared? I like the action, humor, and approach/avoidance romance. Will she find out how to use her powers? I look forward to the next book. A Lot Of Fun Shannon sucks at learning magic even though she has powerful fae magic. She just doesn't know how to use it. Shannon continues to learn more of herself Shannon finds out she's got both witch and fae heritage. She wants to explore more on both, but her family doesn't know anything about fae life. Hunter isn't all bad, but his disappearance is strange and hurts her. What needs to be done is still a somewhat mystery. Mystery Shannon takes some getting used to. Half of her is a bit boring and logical. The other half is passionate and it is interesting to see her deal with it. I am interested in this Council that wants her dead. It is a huge mystery. I am still fairly clueless about Shannon's new world too as is she. Mystery Shannon takes some getting used to. Romance, magic, mystery and a 40ish heroine discovering who she is on her own. This series peeked my curiosity and has been a wonderful read. This book is 2 in the series and walks you through the main character finding herself after a divorce and returning to live with her Mom and Grandmother. The characters are great, the story line is easy to follow and truly is an enjoyable read.

Another great story Second one down, ready for the third. I love Shannon's spunk and character. She knows what she wants, even if it takes her a bit to figure it out and she goes for it. A missing Grimoire Shannon McCarthy hasn’t got very far in her quest for magical knowledge. I suppose we have to wait for that. That’s the problem with a serial book, you read a few chapters and have to wait for the next book.

Short story It's a good story with engaging characters but it cannot be called a book. I will get the next one as I want to know what happens. If I didn't have KU, I would not be buying these. Another Great Read! Thank you so much for this, Melinda! Shannon is such a Spitfire. I love her. Why is it that a MAN is always at the base of our problems? Hunter was the block to Shannon's magic? Unreal! Another Great Read! Thank you so much for this, Melinda! Shannon is such a Spitfire. I love her. Fun This book is a pleasant mixture of flirting, magic, mystery & politics. All that equals fun. It's not the deep, dark tome that will make you ponder mysteries of life, it is just fun. Easy enough to enjoy in an afternoon, I really like it. 8/10 unicorns 🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄 Fun This book is a pleasant mixture of flirting, magic, mystery & politics. All that equals fun. Good follow up Well we learn more about Shannon but still not a lot. This books are very quick reads which is why I like them. The are more paranormal than anything but still unsure where this series is leading to. Though I'm still entertained so I'll continue reading. Dangling Love Marcella. Hope they can find a spell to separate Hunter from the Council. The story of losing and regaining their grimoire is told here but leaves you hanging on whether the spell they need is in the book.
