All three books are independent of each other, rendering it easy to read in any order one desires. The reader got her first glimpse of Braxton and Tala in the previous book and wanted to learn more about them. Therefore, the opportunity to read and review Lethal Protector was met with absolute delight. Tala, a former soldier, and single mother lost a leg while on duty. Being a strong and determined woman, she would not allow an injury to hold her back, and so she began training to become a biathlete with her eye on becoming a member of the National Masters Team. Braxton Hilliard is a sergeant and an elite sniper in the Canadian army. He and Tala shared a special bond that was further strengthened the day she lost her leg in an explosion four years ago. He would love to share more than friendship with her, but believes she deserves better than him, given his track record with relationships. Despite his futile attempts to distance himself from her, he could not stay away, especially when he learnt she reciprocated his feelings. I admired Tala’s strength and determination, which was further put to the test when both she and Braxton unwittingly found themselves in the crosshairs of a killer while trapped in a snowstorm. This aspect of the story had me on the edge of my seat. Braxton’s protective nature and his alpha side revealed itself during these harrowing moments. He did not have the best of life in his younger years, which played a major role in his doubts about being emotionally available for Tala. Their team effort when facing down a cold-blooded killer while trying to survive in a raging snowstorm was admirable. I enjoyed how their romance developed and loved how they worked through their issues, which arose due to distance, insecurities and fears. The author’s portrayal of the characters’ emotions and reactions added to the story’s authenticity. She made it easy for the reader to relate to their fears and struggles. The story wrapped up nicely, leaving me satisfied and looking forward to read more from the author. Looking for a heartfelt, friends to lover’s romance with suspense in the mix, get yourself a copy of Lethal Protector. This review was originally posted on Totally Addicted to Reading

We really felt bad for him and with his struggles of pursuing a relationship with Tala one was because of his job and the danger that comes with it and from his perspective we understood the push and pull thing. Overall this was a really fun fast-paced read that we could not put down you got to love a story that turns from characters from being on cloud nine and then in the next blink of an eye...

Friends to lovers is a basic romance trope. I generally enjoy it a lot. What I don't enjoy about this trope is the endless angst and the pining that comes with it. That can get old, real fast. And it did, get old that is, in this book. The trademark action scenes that I love about Kaylea Cross books didn't disappoint, but having to wait soooo long for the romance payoff got . . . old. Tala Baldwin is a single mother, a wounded warrior whose right leg below the knee is now a prosthesis and a woman with the goal of making the Paralympics team in the biathlon. She has been working toward that goal since her daughter, Rylee, left for college. She isn't even pausing her training while in Rifle Creek, MT for the holidays. In fact she hopes to pick the brain of family friend, Braxton Hillard, a master sniper, to give her some tips on shooting. She has had a thing for Braxton for years, but is firmly in the friend zone. 3 1/2-Stars These two have a lot of history as friends. Braxton feels he just can't take it any farther than that, though he soooo wants to. He feels that with his awful childhood and his commitment to his military unit, he just isn't relationship material and a fling is out of the question with Tala. Tala is dead serious when she says she wants a man who will put her first and after everything she has been through, she deserves that. What starts out as a fun day of training for Tala and Braxton, cross country skiing and shooting, turns into a nightmare as a blizzard descends and a wanted killer is shooting at them. They are forced to confront their feelings and try to stay alive with both the murderer and the blizzard trying to kill them.

Seriously, I devoured Lethal Protector in one sitting—much to the consternation of my family and dogs because I didn’t pay attention to anything else! I loved the friendship between Braxton and Tala. How they both tried to deny their feeling for each other, that they didn’t want to ruin their friendship if they didn’t work out romantically. But, man, when they finally gave in to their feelings—finally let their lust take the reins—wowza, the heat definitely ratcheted up quickly! But their obvious spark and connection wasn’t the only thing that greatly increased my heart rate. Nope, it was how they worked together when the blizzard struck and they were too close for comfort with the wanted killer while also fighting the elements. Two words: page turner. I’ve loved my time spent with the gang in this fantastic Rifle Creek series and I’m really hoping there’s more to follow! ~ Missy, 5 stars

LETHAL PROTECTOR is the third instalment in Kaylea Cross’ contemporary, adult RIFLE CREEK erotic, romantic suspense series set in Rifle Creek, Montana. LETHAL PROTECTOR can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous instalments is revealed where necessary. Tala is Tate Baldwin’s sister LETHAL EDGE #1. Told from several third person perspectives LETHAL PROTECTOR follows the friends to lovers relationship between thirty-five year old, Canadian Forces soldier Sgt. Braxton Hillard, and thirty four year old, single mother/ former solder, amputee and para-athlete Tala Baldwin. Four years earlier, while on deployment in Afghanistan, Tala would lose her leg to an anti-personnel mine, and Sgt. Braxton Hillard, was the first on the scene to save his best friend’s younger sister. Fast forward to present day wherein, the Christmas holidays finds Braxton a part of the ever expanding Baldwin family, and the attraction between Braxton and Tala does not go unnoticed. In preparation for an upcoming biathlon, Tala asks Braxton to help with her target practice, help that brings Braxton up close and personal but a cross country ski trip finds our couple facing down a shooter, a gang-banger on the run, and our couple may be his next target-wrong place at the wrong time. What ensues is the building relationship between Tala and Braxton, and the potential fall-out as our couple cross paths with a killer on the run. Tala Baldwin is a single mother whose time in the military was cut short by an anti-personnel mine, and the loss of her leg but Tala never forgot about Braxton Hillard, her brother’s friend and business partner at Rifle Creek Tactical, and the man that stirs something deep within our story line heroine. Braxton Hillard struggles with family and friendships but most of all in his relationships with the opposite $ex. Believing himself unworthy, Braxton refuses to move forward with our story line heroine but the palpable sexual attraction and need outweigh Braxton’s negative thoughts about his own happily ever after. A day of skiing finds our couple on the run, one step ahead of a man desperate to take down anyone who crosses his path. The relationship between Braxton and Tala is one of immediate attraction but Braxton is Tate Baldwin’s business partner and friend, and in this Braxton battles between head and heart, fearing to cross the proverbial line of no return. Tala has lusted after Braxton for as long as she can remember, and in this she struggles with Braxton’s refusal to move beyond a possible one-night stand. The lone $ex scene is passionate and intense, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text. The secondary and supporting characters include Tala’s daughter Rylee, as well as Tate and Nina (Lethal Edge #1), Mason and Avery (Lethal Temptation #2), nosy but well-meaning spinster sisters Bev and Pat, and Reggie, the fainting goat. LETHAL PROTECTOR is a story of family and friendships, relationships and love; a story of desperation and loss. The fast paced premise is intriguing and exciting; the characters are strong-willed and energetic; the romance is a slow build to a happily ever after. www.thereadingcafe.com

I've been kinda waiting for this one for a while now...the slow burn between Tala and Brax throughout the rest of the books in the series finally came to a tipping point in this story and I was very eager to get my hands on it! It didn't disappoint! The slow burn of the previous books was maintained throughout most of this one, but we got to learn much more about Tala, her injury, and her desire for Braxton. Likewise, we got to learn more about Brax, his family, and his past. It made the suspense give their romance a bit of spice! However, I found the suspense angle rather weak. We didn't learn much about the people involved in the suspense side of things, and we only had one motivating factor for the whole thing! While it did lend a hint of danger and urgency to the declarations of romance between Brax and Tala, it didn't feel like an integral part of the story to me. In fact, it felt rather tacked on! All things considered, this was a great read to cozy up with on a cold winter's day!

I do love a strong heroine and that is exactly what we get in the form of Tala Baldwin. She served well in the armed forces and was gravely injured to the point of losing her leg. Saved by Braxton Hilliard, Tala was able to survive and do even more with her life. Braxton continued to serve his country. It is years later and Tala's daughter is soon to go to college, and Tala is training as a biathlete. Despite wearing a prosthetic leg, Tala really has not slowed down much. Braxton continued to serve his country. It is years later and Tala's daughter is soon to go to college, and Tala is training as a biathlete. Despite wearing a prosthetic leg, Tala really has not slowed down much. When Braxton comes back into town, she asks him to help her to train. There is one significant factor in their story, however. Not only did Braxton save her life previously, but they both are carrying a torch for each other, yet neither of them is willing to confess their feelings. During their training the pair get trapped by a blizzard - and by a manic killer who will go to any length possible to kill the both of them. Not only to they have to fight the elements, they must manage to stay one step ahead of the determined killer. The tension ratchets up as the danger increases. Moreover, the sexual tension between the two rises to an all-time high. Will they survive the very dangers they are experiencing long enough to explore their growing feelings? What an exciting book! I enjoyed this book as much as I did the second book in the series, Lethal Temptation, as the combination of danger, survival and passion make for a nice, enthralling combination. This exciting book was impossible to put down and I am eager to read any additional books in this series. Many thanks to Kaylea Cross and to InkSlinger PR for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

What another fantastic book in a not so small town series that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Been looking forward to this book as knew Tala's journey especially would be awe inspiring and I wasn't wrong. On top of that you had the main characters fighting mother nature and a killer. Talk about jamming a book full of white knuckling suspense! As usual definitely recommend. What another fantastic book in a not so small town series that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Lethal Protector is book three in Kaylea Cross’s Rifle Creek series. As a long-time fan of her writing, this book did not disappoint. It can be read as a stand-alone title, but as a series junkie, I always recommend reading the entire series in order. NICUnurse’s Rating: It feels like I’ve been waiting for Braxton and Tala’s story forever, so I was more than excited to dive into this book. With tantalizing glimpses into each of these characters in the previous books, my anticipation level was at an all-time high, and I was not disappointed by any stretch of the imagination. And I honestly don’t think she could have done these two main characters any better justice than she did. Both Tala and Braxton are heroes in their own right. They’ve overcome so many obstacles separately. But put them together, and they were a force to be reckoned with and no match for this villain, no matter what he (or nature) threw at them. Braxton and Tala complemented each other so well, and I’m glad they both figured that out eventually. Lethal Protector was hands down one of my favorites of Kaylea Cross’s books to date. Maybe it’s because I’d waited for what seemed like forever for this book, but I think it’s more because I don’t think a story has ever fit any of her characters better than this one fit Tala and Braxton. Don’t get me wrong. I’ve never felt like she’s done her characters in any of her books any injustice. But this was just so much more. It was a bit of a slow burn between these two, and neither one was pushy with the other even once their feelings for each other were out in the open. They were honest with each other, and despite all of her feelings toward Braxton, Tala was unwilling to compromise what she wanted for her future. I would have been more than disappointed in her if she had. I’m honestly sad to see this series end because I genuinely fell in love with the entire cast of characters and would love to see Rylee get her own book in the future. Kaylea Cross is at the top of my 1-click author list and one of my top go-to romantic suspense authors for a reason: she writes such wonderful characters and does suspense so, so well, no matter what world she’s creating. I’ve read and re-read so many of her books since I found her and will continue to do so. You can’t go wrong with any of her books, in my humble opinion. And each series she’s written is more than worth your time and money invested into it. And the Rifle Creek series is no exception. But if you have to pick just one book in this series to read, this would be the one to choose! I give Lethal Protector by Kaylea Cross 5 out of 5 stars!

The book starts with a bang! Very rarely does a book grab hold of me from the prologue but in Lethal Protector did 😱🥺 it was a heart-rending start, and I could feel every emotion. From that moment on Braxton and Tala’s love story captivated me, their friends to lovers journey was an Oh so sweet slow burn. Tala was such a strong character, she has experienced life changing events but it hasn’t stopped her from going after her dreams, she has a loving daughter, wonderful family support but she’s missing a partner, someone who she can rely on, she admits that at times she’s lonely. Braxton is a master sniper in the JTF2 Canadian armed forces (yes, I googled them and Yes they are totally bad ass in real life! From 🇬🇧 to 🇨🇦 total respect ✊🏼) being a master sniper is everything to who he is, he has a ‘so called’ family and he’s had girlfriends but when it comes to the ‘career or me’ conversation he’s always chosen his career, it’s who he is, it’s what he knows best. Braxton is use to being alone, he likes the solitary life...until Tala opens his eyes to wanting more. Braxton and Tala have been friends for a long time through Braxton working alongside Talas brother Tate (who we saw in book 1) Tala doesn’t want to settle for less when it comes to a relationship, she know what she wants, is Braxton willing to give to get what he wants too? What are they both willing to give for love? This was a enthralling read, the suspense kept me engrossed with what would happen next, as Braxton and Tala race down a mountain, will they survive against the sniper chasing them? Will they survive the horrendous weather conditions? will they admit their true feelings? Ohh.M.G. so much happened in this book and let’s not forget the heat building throughout the story nearly set my kindle on fire near the end 🔥 H.O.T! Highly recommend 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

At least until RCT is up and running. It's the present that's pulling at them both, Tala wants to take their friendship further but not if he's going to re-up. She doesn't want to be second to his career. She also wants his help with her shooting, she's training for Biathlon and she needs to place well in order to make the National Masters team and then hopefully qualify for the Paralympics. He's the best to help her since he's a Canadian JTF2 sniper. Brax's feelings for Tala go much further than friendship as well but he is reluctant to take things further. His track record with relationships isn't good and mostly because of his frequent and often prolonged absences. Tala wants to be put first and until he's ready to retire from active duty, he can't give her that. We have some interesting developments involving the death of a gang leader and the person suspected of the crime and a couple of avalanches. It's clear that being close is torture for Tala and Brax, circumstances will change that but not without cost. I loved the scenes with him training her for the shooting portions of the Biathlon. Even more so when they simulate both parts of it. Friendship, laughter, survival, tears and a simmering relationship that bursts into flames. I'm sorry to see this series end as I love these characters, but I know I'll love the new one that's coming soon!

Braxton Hillard has had more than friendship feelings for Tala for over a year, but he’s terrified to say anything that would ruin the great friendship he has not only with her brother, but with her as well. He’s bad at relationships. And, being an elite military member, his job always comes first, and Tala deserves more from him. When Tala asks Brax to help her hone her shooting skills for the biathlon she is training for, they both get more than they bargained for. As they finally admit their feelings for one another, they also find themselves stranded in a blizzard being chased by a cold blooded killer. With both Tala and Brax being pushed to their physical, mental, and emotional limits, they’ll need to depend on one another for not only a chance at their romance, but a chance at survival as well! I really loved this couple! Brax didn’t have a great childhood, and I totally get why he was afraid of losing the close friendships he has. But, I’m so glad he was ready to give Tala a chance! And, Tala is tough as nails! She does not let being an amputee slow her down at all. Actually, I feel like it makes her push to be even stronger to succeed. I’m also glad she kind of forced the issue with Brax to get the ball rolling, because man, their chemistry, even from afar, was hot as could be! Lethal Protector was a pulse pounding and harrowing adventure once things took off in the woods. Very fast paced, but also taking the time to highlight just how much these two cared about one another as they fought to survive. While I’m sad to see this series end, it was a phenomenal ending to our time in Rifle Creek and I can’t wait to see what Kaylea Cross has in store for readers next! 5 stars!

Tala and Brax are the epitome of long simmer passion! These two friends have seen each other through the worst things. Tala's injury, however, has put her at a disadvantage - Does Brax's continued contact with her mean he likes her as a friend, an injured colleague. Or does he have deeper emotions in play? Tala doesn't want to risk her heart to her best friend. She does a damn good job of working, training for the Biathlon, and raising her daughter. Barx may have been there when Tala was injured and through parts of her recovery. He knows exactly what she has lost but he has never seen her as anything less than Tala - with or without her appendage lost in Afghanistan. But Braxton has big decisions of his own to make - re-enlist, join his friends at Rifle Creek or go off and do something else. He's enticed by working with his friends but he doesn't feel done yet with the military. He may want Tala but can he put her before his career, just as she deserves? After a training session goes wrong, Tala and Brax are on their own in the wild trying to survive a gunman. Will they make it out alive? Tala and Braxton are perfect together. Tala comes over as gung-ho, take no prisoners, my disability will not impair me. But she does have a soft centre and her emotions over the loss of her leg are still quite raw. Braxton also has to decide what's most important to him. I loved the way they were determined to be together. It may not have been anyone else's version of HEA but it totally suited these two independent warriors! I do hope Tala's daughter gets a HEA she has been such a great character throughout the books and endured her own harrowing events.

Lethal Protector, book 3 in the Rifle Creek series is another awesome edge of your seat story about two friends who have always been there for each other but have been hiding their true feelings for one another. But they were put in a situation where danger surrounds them and their feelings were no longer able to be hidden. Tala and Braxton are such a fantastic couple, but it is Tala who I admired the most. After losing part of her leg while in Afghanistan she did not give up. She worked hard in her recovery and now she is training to be a biathlete. As for Braxton, he is at a crossroads, he can either re-enlist in the military or officially take part in Rifle Creek Tactical, where he is the third partner of. He is in town for a bit to try to figure out what he wants to do, while also trying to keep his attraction to Tala hidden. He feels he is not good enough for her and can not give her what she wants and deserves. With Braxton in town, Tala asks him to help train her in the shooting department. During one of the training sessions they were forced to seek shelter and hide from a wanted fugitive. Put in such dire conditions, they have each other’s back and their hidden love for one another is finally revealed. Overall I did enjoy Tala and Braxton’s story. It was action packed and the suspense had me on pins and needles. When they finally were able to be honest with each other about their feelings, it was fantastic to see. Lethal Protector was a great addition to a wonderful series.

What The Heart Wants!!! Tala Balwin, Tate's ( LETHAL EDGE ) sister whom we've met through out the series. As a single mother of a teenager who was off to college, she knew a lot about sacrifice. He has always been there for her, no matter what, she doesn't know when things changed between them but she saw him as more than friend if only he would see her the same way. Braxton Hillard, a Sergeant and an elite sniper who was able to keep his emotions away. Well except for when it came to Tala Balwin, he'd always loved her since the day she'd walked into his life. But he decided to keep his distance for years cause he thought he wasn't good enough for her. Well he didn't know how wrong he was until she put all her cards on the table. They found themselves trapped in the mountains, there was no more denying what was happening between them. As they did everything in their power to stay alive, they also had to face a new threat in the form of a serial killer. They were ready to do whatever it took to get down of those mountains alive. Loved how they had each others's sixes. LETHAL PROTECTOR is the third and final installment in Kaylea Cross' RIFLE CREEK series. It was fast-paced, beautiful and fascinating. Kaylea Cross did a magnificent job. Two thumbs up!

4.5 stars of heart pounding suspense with a side of sweet, slow burn romance. This series has been full of romantic suspense and the last book does not disappoint. Braxton and Tala have been friends for years, yearned for each other for years, but distance and the military have kept them apart. Now they are both in Rifle Creek for the holidays and Tala is training to be a biathlete - which is an impressive feat considering she could be a Paralympian. I really liked her character and enjoyed getting to know her through Tate's story and this series. Everyone is back if you've read the previous books although you don't have to. Brax is a committed military man and isn't ready to give that life up yet. To add to the story and bring the suspense - there is a fugitive on the loose that is on the mountain at the same time Brax and Tala are training. Those scenes were so well done and my heart was beating so fast with the elements of Mother Nature and the fight for their lives that ensued on both sides!! "I feel like I've been waiting for you my whole life." "Same. And I promise to be worth the wait." - so sweet! This is a great suspense story on its own, but the romance between Tala and Brax that grew out of friendship and the toughest day of Tala's life...until now - really resonated with me. I love these stories and am looking forward to Kaylea Cross' next series. I voluntarily requested and read an advance reader copy.

Let me start by saying get this book! Don't even second guess that choice. I have read every book by Kaylea Cross and have never been disappointed. Not only is this book amazing but it is now officially my favorite of hers. The story pulled me in from page one and didn't let go until the end. I loved our heroine who was a beautiful combination of strength and vulnerability that made feel like I really understood her and wanted to know her. And our hero - wow. Such a wonderful man who in many ways mimicked the strength and vulnerability of our heroine. But while Tala has a physical limitation she has learned to accept, Braxton suffers from emotional distress that he has just absorbed and allows to affect him. Nonetheless, Braxton was just wonderful as the loyal, protective alpha - I definitely would love to get to know him! The romantic and sexual tension between the couple is beautifully mirrored by the life and death tension they face on the mountain. Their struggle to survive the elements and a killer hunting them was a vivid picture - the descriptions of them skiing were so clear I felt like I was there. If you love romance or even if you are just into suspense you will not be disappointed with this book. I can't wait to see what Kaylea Cross's next book is like.

If so, will they find their HEA? Or will they each go their separate ways ? This was a wonderful addition to the series , and a story that will keep you on the edge of your seats. It is definitely a stand alone, but your reading experienced will be enhanced if you read the previous stories. Lastly, I always enjoy that the author gives us strong female characters . I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

Wow!! What a fabulous conclusion to a series. Braxton and Tala were so worth the wait. I was drawn to them immediately. Their chemistry was amazing and they were so in sync both as friends and lovers. At the same time, my heart went out to both of them as they both had baggage holding them back from each other. Her use of complex character arcs, emotion-filled dialogue, and love scenes that melt your reading device make her one of my very favorite authors. I give Lethal Protector 5+ stars and highly recommend it to everyone, especially those who love to read about hot alpha military guys who worship and protect kicka$$ women. There is action, adventure, hot steamy chemistry and best friend banter. I am Already looking forward to the next book in the series.
