This was an absolute BLAST! To say this was just a delight to read would be a crime! Delight doesn’t even begin to cover it! It was so, so, SO much more! This truly is a book that you will NOT want to miss! There’s an ever- present sense of anticipation & excitement delivered through a plot filled with constant twists & turns... and had me on the edge of my seat the entire novel! Kit is constantly finding himself amidst trouble, and his charming & witty persona had me swooning and cracking up the whole way through! I admit I was a little unsure about how a male protagonist (as opposed to having a female main character, as the other two series do) would fit into the Guild Codex fray, but Kit more than holds his own as a lead, & in fact, he cast a spell on me from moment one! His sense of humor is ever-present, & is unapologetically himself, flaunting his love of great films, pop culture references, & a signature brand of adorable, yet incredibly sharp & witty sarcasm, any chance he gets. Oh my GOODNESS, and I cannot express how giddy the craftily placed references to previous Guild Codex books made me! Uh... and who knew Kit Morris was going to be so freakin’ swoon-worthy?! I near-melted, oh who am I kidding, I was a damn puddle on WAY more than one occasion ! Looks like I have found the newest addition to my list of Guild Codex crushes ! *swoons dramatically* *fans self* What?! He’s a witty, one of a kind, certified HUNK of a man, okay?! No shame whatsoever here for admitting that! I’d let him warp my mind any day of the week... 😳☺️😏 Annette Marie has done me in again, folks. As has Rob Jacobson! This debut with Annette was absolute perfection; they truly are a dynamic duo ! I loved that this felt so on brand for Marie, but I could definitely still sense Jacobson’s unique hand as well— their writing complements each other PERFECTLY and the result is a more perfect fit for the Guild Codex Universe than I could ever have dreamt of! This series is nothing short of a stroke of genius (true to form), and dazzles endlessly, & effortlessly at that— It exceeded expectations & more! What a beyond impressive, SOLID new addition to the world of The Guild Codex that 100% fully lives up to the other novels in the franchise AND holds its own! Other than that, my lips are sealed! 😉 Wouldn’t dream of spoiling any of this WONDERFUL work of genius for anyone. Here’s lookin’ at you, kid! 😉 *swooning indefinitely* Damn it... where’d I leave my fan?! ______________ AARRRCCCCCCCC! Yay! 😊 ______________ GAAHHHHHH I ABSOLUTELY CANNOT WAIT for this collab between Annette Marie & Rob Jacobsen! ANOTHER SERIES in the GUILD CODEX UNIVERSE? Um, YES! To boot, it’s a novel from the perspective of Kit Morris; He’s mysterious, known for his pop culture references, & AND he’s an MPD Agent ?! YES YES YES, PLEASE! I have a huge suspicion that you will not want to miss this. I certainly cannot wait— from what I have seen through other books in the The Guild Codex Universe, Kit is absolutely hilarious, and SO fun; his one liners and pop culture references (especially at the most inappropriate times) drew me in from the very first time he was introduced ! I absolutely adore him & cannot say enough how excited I am for his first full-length novel debut! There is most certainly going to be trouble & thrills abound! WOO! 😊💛😍

I love reading about my favorite characters and places in other books =D For those who have read the Guild Codex series, this book takes place immediately after the events of Three Mages and a Margarita. And it is just SO MUCH FUN. Kit is such a witty and enjoyable character that you can't help but fall for him a little. His mystic powers are incredible as well....probably my favorite type thus far. I'm really looking forward to reading more about Kit (and of course, Lienna!) in future books....and maybe a few more cameos? =D ————— ARC! 🥳🥳 ————— I am soooooo excited for this!!!! 😁😁😁

I love the idea of the intertwining stories the Guild Codex has going on but I really don't gravitate towards books with a male lead and that's where it started off on the wrong foot for me. Kit was actually a very interesting character but his pop culture references were useless to me and didn't add much to the story. Out of every 10 references he made I got 2, maybe 3. Though I understand why he went back after all I can't help but think what if he hadn't and have his story end there and leave Tori, Robin, and the gang to solve whatever mess comes up. Those are just my wishful thoughts because I don't want to have to put myself through Book #2 of this spin-off series. I didn't see the appeal that Lienna had. She's a rookie bad*ss with awesome spells she comes up with. Other than that she's mostly deadpan or maybe that was how the narrator made her seem to me. Considering I already wasn't a fan of hers this book didn't help much to change my opinion. The ending was an interesting surprise! I appreciated the suspense that led to all the questions of how he was going to get out of the MPD situation this time. I'm glad things worked out and I'm interested to see how Kit's story intersects with the overall Guild Codex storyline. The Audio Book: The narrator pick could have been much, much worse so yay? This narrator didn't grate on my nerves but I've also heard better (that's just a personal annoyance of mine and shouldn't be taken into account). Due to the fact that I've been listening to the past books in the series, this narrator pronounced a few keywords to the universe of these books differently than the female narrator for past books and it did take me out of the story here and there.

“Kit Morris.” .... “You are indeed a rare and fascinating mythic” I couldn’t agree more. It’s been years since I read a book from a Male only POV. I have to admit I quite enjoyed it! Did I also want to read from Lienna’s POV? Well yes but then I also want to read from Zylas POV in “Hunting Demons” too so that doesn’t mean this is lacking in any way. Is the male only perspective the reason behind the co-authorship perhaps? This is another shoot off from the ever expanding Guild Codex world. Is the male only perspective the reason behind the co-authorship perhaps? This is another shoot off from the ever expanding Guild Codex world. The world itself has so much potential it’s not surprising the stories keep on coming. This one features a criminal, Kit who has been taken into custody after his guild was ousted by the Crow & Hammer. He has insider knowledge into his fellow guild mates plot to ”take over the world” and so ends up unwillingly helping the MPD agent Lienna in her investigation. Cue adventures in the wonderful world of Mythica Kits unique selling point is his magic, it’s pretty fun and makes for some entertaining reading. He has a love of films and there are more pop culture and film trivia references included here than you can shake a stick at. A little more quick paced on the romance than Tori and perhaps not as exciting as Robin but it has potential! Overall it’s a really entertaining and enjoyable read. Easy to read too, it’s one for those lazy Sundays when too many brain cells have been killed the night before with a glass too many. It should be fun to see where it goes, given the ending the possibilities are endless. I expect every new release will be it’s own little “episode” maybe? All of which makes a nice change from the rest of the Guild Codex series. but still #Robin&Zylas4eva

Kit's voice is actually quite awesome and he's more than just likable, he's down right lovable. Annette and Rob did a phenomenal job giving us a starting point in which we delve into the MPD side of the universe which should, I suspect, result in a plethora of adventures our brains can barely start to conceive. And now we ask, will we see the other C&H members appear in this book? What went on in Kit and Lienna's minds with that report after Zylas and Robin fought that demon? Will we go beyond Vancouver and adventure with our favorite Magipol duo? I look forward to having all of these questions answered!

Brand new Guild Codex book! This time it's a male protagonist, with a slightly different perspective of the mythic world. Kit Morris is different than Tori and Robin and he's absolutely refreshing! The fun thing about Warping Minds & Other Misdemeanors though, besides the non-stop action, fast paced story, and numerous laugh out loud moments is it's a great starting point for new readers. Especially if female leads aren't necessarily your thing. But check it out! If you're already neck deep into Brand new Guild Codex book! Character crossovers? ✔ Kit really speaks my language! So much sass and pop culture references for days! He highly values his freedom, but would choose to do what is right at his own expense. Love his powers, too! Kit's a hero you can root for from the very start! Need more Warped, please!

*I have received an ARC of this book for an honest review* I have read all of Annete's Marie books, and none have let me down. Now, I didn't know what to expect from a book co-authored with a guy, but I've got to tell you, I was pleasantly surprised. The book flowed well, the characters were amazing, the plot thrilling. Annette Marie is one of the few consistent authors that delivers top notch writing with each of her books. They are always perfectly edited, not even a spelling mistake. The world building is fascinating and it makes you want to take residence in her head. I can't wait for more, because this made me love Kit so much, and I'm a huge fan of Lienna and her penchant to kick ass and take names. I already ship them so bad.

First things first, because I am nothing if not predictable in this regard: Kit is hot. There! I said it. Moving on. Annette Marie does not disappoint. Before I even get to anything else, can I just say how seamless that writing was? Warping Minds was written by both Annette Marie and Rob Jacobsen and they’re clearly a power duo already. Their writing flowed together so easily and had humour and action as all the other Guild Codex books. I can’t wait for more of this series by them! I absolutely adored Kit! He was funny and while I may not have gotten most of his movie references, he’s quickly become one of my favourite characters from this world. There’s definitely a lot more than meets the eye with him and I’m so excited to find out more. Not to mention that his narration? Absolute chefs kiss. I loved reading from his point of view and highlighted—and outright laughed—at so many of the things he’d said and thought. Kit is easily one of the most fun characters I’ve read and I adored every bit of this book namely because of him. Each of the series sort of highlights a different aspect of the Guild Codex world, so you’ve got Tori’s guild and Robin’s demon, and now we have MagiPol! This is another thing I wanna commend the authors on: this exploration. I love when worlds expand and we get to see things from different aspects so this book definitely brought on a new lens to the world for me and I LOVED that. It’s so different from the kinda thing Tori and Robin Do in their respected series. I’m really curious if they’re going to intersect at some point, or if we just get more cameos and Easter eggs throughout. It’s so fun when one pops up. A big focus of this book was definitely Kit’s magic and not gonna lie, it sounds pretty damn cool. Paired with Lienna’s brand of magic, I’m especially interested in how these two will play things out. It’s so different from what the other series touched on, magic wise, so I’m very eye emoji over it. Aaaaand I think that’s it from me! I’m so looking forward to the next book—in this series and this world overall lol. 4 stars!

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. Compared to Robin and Tori, I didn’t enjoy this one as much. Tori had three guys, Robin had a demon and Kit had his own wit. Kit felt limited in what he could do, with both the ignorance of his own power and being a criminal on a leash. Saying that, his power has a lot of potential and when he was free to use it, the stuff he could do was awesome. As a character he fell into the grey area, not minding what he did as long as he had a place to belong, which was pretty sad. Favourite part was where he spoke up for her. I hope someone tells her what Kit did. An interesting start and the next one sounds like it’ll be chaotic. Will be interesting to see what Kit does on the right side of the law.

I've liked other books by this author, books that are set in this same world, but this one, was a bit meh...for me. Part if it was that I didn't like Kit, he came off as a woe is me, my crap doesn't stink, and odd combo. It seemed like with every person he met his first thought was how can I use them. And for most of the book it seemed like he was bumbling around from one thing to another. I may check out the next book, but it will be a make or break book in this series for me. Those two were adorable and I approve of the realistic enemies-to-friends relationship development. Their contrasting personalities balanced each other out, but at the same time, their compassion for the people around them brought them closer. Thank you, Annette Marie and Rob Jacobsen, for giving me another potential favorite fictional friendship!

I liked Kit and found his backstory and intro to the magical world to be fascinating. He has a unique skill set and witty personality that I immediately liked. I am quite curious to discover what else our new friend can do. Now Agent Lienna Shen is a magical prodigy working for the MPD and I loved her. She is snarky, tenacious, clever and a kickass mythic. We learned little about her in this first installment, but I found her to be trustworthy. I absolutely loved the dynamics of these two working together and watching trust build and sparks fly. It will delight fans of the Guild World to know we cross paths with the members of the Crow and Hammer Guild. Warping Minds & Other Misdemeanors delivered a fun, addictive tale and I am eager to dive into more adventures in the Warped series. Whether you are new to the Guild Codex or a fan, you cannot go wrong adding this to your shelf. Iggy Toma narrated and captured the voice of Kit perfectly. This was a departure from Cris Dukehart, but with a male POV it worked splendidly. It took me a bit to warm up to his female voices, but he became the voice of Lienna. I put off starting this book for almost a week after I received an ARC because I was nervous about reading it. I was nervous because it wasn't Annette Marie. It was Annette Marie and Rob Jacobsen. In short, it doesn't really. The Guild Codex world is the GC world. The plot and execution are as tight and enjoyable as all the others. It feels like an Annette Marie book... BUT it also feels other. You could attribute the "otherness" to the fact it's a new character (Kit) and it's told exclusively from a male pov (which the other books are not) but that's not why. The "otherness" is most definitely Rob Jacobsen and it hilarious, weird and wholly enjoyable. As I mentioned above, Guild Codex: Warped is not a guild based series but an MPD (think magic police) based series but I can already tell it's going to be unlike any kind of law enforcement series I've ever read! Kit is a wonderful character with unique and interesting magical gifts. He's technically a criminal but still a good guy with a good heart. His backstory hit me in the feels and made me want to hug him while he simultaneously had me snorting tea out my nose at his one-liners and whacky observations. I'm super curious about what's to come for Kit and as to what the full scope of his magic actually is. Lienna Shen is more of an enigma. A magical prodigy working for the MPD. She seems fierce, smart, kind and loyal but despite spending an entire book with her, I feel like we know next to nothing about her. I guess this is because Kit knows little about her, and we only know what he does. I'm excited to learn more about her and I'm already shipping her and Kit... The book isn't a romance but these two have awesome chemistry! Warping Minds and Other Misdemeanours is very much an introduction... An origin story if you will. I was utterly engrossed throughout, it was super fun and easy to read, and I finished it wanting more but I have no clue where the series is going or what the overarching plot of the series will be. I know from the other Guild Codex series that somehow Kit and Lienna's paths will cross with the Crow and Hammer more than once but I don't know why. It's all very exciting. If you have a love for magical adventures, quirky characters and weird humour and would like to escape reality for a few hours, give this a read! Seriously, I doubt you'll regret it. I have a new obsession.

Warping Minds & Other Misdemeanors Guild Codex: Warped, Book 1 By: Annette Marie, Rob Jacobsen Narrated by: Iggy Toma This starts an exciting new series with magic of all kinds, cops that deal with magical crimes, and magical artifacts, and our main character who is caught for working for a magical con guy. It is a fun read, great characters and fun fantasy! I am going to enjoy this series! Great narration too!

By far the most mediocre book by Annette Marie I've read so far. I was less than delighted by "Lost Talismans and a Tequila" already but this was so much worse. It could be that the co-author is the source of the mediocrity. Or maybe this might be a perfect example of an author starting as an idealistic enthusiast and ending in writing as just a job to earn a living? I really can't tell. Or maybe this might be a perfect example of an author starting as an idealistic enthusiast and ending in writing as just a job to earn a living? I really can't tell. The magic of the main character is the worst piece of magic in a book by Annette Marie I've seen so far. The power of it might be one of the strongest in the entire series but never makes it much above average in practice because of the lack of imagination in using it and on top of it all the mc has the gall to mock others for their lack of imagination in applying his power. I was really tempted to dnf right there. This is not to say the magic in the guild codex world is particularly well defined but usually, all the possibilities of how a particular kind of magic can be used are held in check by admittedly sometimes somewhat contrived limitations. Normally, the author thought about it. You can tell there went a lot of effort into preventing plot holes. It's usually a prime example of how to do a soft magic system right. Not this one. The new magic in this one is a dumpster fire. I couldn't have written a less original plot if I tried. Gone are the complex and nuanced characters and motivations, say hello to shallow and onedimensional clichées. All of them. Gone are political intrigue and varying and clashing personal interests between individuals and groups. Here is a spoilery list of eye-rolls. (view spoiler)[ - The baddie is bad, wants artefact because he wants to do baddy bad things. - The misunderstood goodie-two-shoes is good but misunderstood and has to save the world anyway. - The abusive police is abusive towards the poor MC for no reason except some extra sympathy points. - Let's go instalove. - The moment a critical situation is falling apart the unexpected reinforcement consisting exclusively of badass women shows up and saves the day. - Maniac Villain laughs maniacally because he now can enslave humankind or something? (We never even learn his precise motivation apart from being evil.) - In the final critical moment within the climax, the mc manages to extend his powers to a level he never had before and saves the day. (With the power of loves or something? oh, and special snowflake alarm!) - And as a cherry on top the MC is being unjustly enslaved to work for the magic justice system under threat of death. I am at a loss for words. (hide spoiler)] I just feel betrayed. Usually, I am pretty guarded towards a new series because emotional investment really affects me. If a book lets me down with careless and bad writing after I let myself be drawn into a world, it feels like the author trampled over my feelings. I lost this guardedness towards books with Annette Marie's name on it. No more. Not again. Despite this scathing sounding review, it's not all that bad really. It's on par with the average self-published UF novel but that's worlds away from what I expect from a book with Annette Marie's name on the cover.

4.5 Stars... Meet Kit Morris, a charming, witty, cunning, compassionate, sexy... criminal? Maybe, but he is also a mythic of unknown ability and power attempting to set the record straight... It's another 2020 Annette Marie release (yay!) and it's another series in the Guild Codex universe (double yay!) and as per what I have become accustomed to, the world building is amazing and the characters are ones that I can totally root for. This is the first co-authored entry into the Warped series in the Guild Codex world and I have to admit - I had no idea what to expect. What I didn't expect was for it to flow so smoothly and seamlessly right from the get-go. I assumed that this duo would take some time to get into the swing of things. Silly me. This one is entirely from a male POV, and I have to admit that I enjoyed Kit. He wasn't immediately my favourite character but he definitely grew on me. He's a morally grey character but at the same time, he's a perfect cinnamon roll and the more I got to know him and his nature the more I rooted for him. "I'm an overall likeable guy - unless you're a soulless crumpet who loathes pop culture, in which case I'm your worst nightmare" The other main protagonist is agent Lienna Shen and I resonated with her almost immediately. She's a pretty kickass mythic, specialising in a unique kind of magic but at the same time she didn't seem entirely confident and nor was she arrogant in any way. Her willingness to help Kit, even though his character was a grey one and they were officially on opposing sides, was also endearing and I love loyalty to friends. There's still a lot of her background that is unclear, but I liked the mysteriousness and I look forward to some more reveals. I have a feeling there's a lot more to Lienna than meets the eye. We have met Kit and Lienna in previous Guild Codex books which definitely piqued my interest in this series, however this series, as with Spellbound and Demonized, can be read as a standalone. In all good conscience though, I can't leave it at that and I have to recommend you read all the books - they're too good to miss! "Now was not the time for wisdom. Now was the time for charging headfirst into the lair of a dangerous criminal!" I have loved exploring this large and intricate universe and now not only have we explored Guilds and running on the other side of the law with Tori and Robin, now with Kit we are getting to explore the magical policing system of the MPD. I love the way the universe expands with each series and also being able to see the cameos and easter eggs from the other series. In short, if you're a fan of The Guild Codex, or even if you've never picked up a previous book before, this is a series that you don't want to miss. It's another one full of the action, snark, wit and adventure I've come to associate with this world.

It's a 4.5 stars for me! Kit's book reminded me of Tori's: hilarious, curious, and a sense of mystery for the main character who's seemingly stepping into a new world of magic. Kit's already had a jump on Tori but I love that he still has so much to explore. About the world or himself, both are beyond entertaining. Kit and Lienna's relationship is hilarious because it's the classic "bad guy" and "good cop" spiel, but seeing it from Kit's point of view, someone who's just had a bad start in life, m It's a 4.5 stars for me! Kit and Lienna's relationship is hilarious because it's the classic "bad guy" and "good cop" spiel, but seeing it from Kit's point of view, someone who's just had a bad start in life, makes it a little more interesting. The MPD agents kept a good 'bad cop' motto and it did a lot to change the mood of the magical world, making it different from Tori and Robin's set worlds despite all being in the same place. And knowing that we're going to get a closer look at the MPD themselves is exciting in itself, but just being able to see new characters who can expand on this world that Marie's created is one of the main reasons why I love these books so much. It never gets boring and there's always more to explore. This installment was a nice introduction to Kit's stories and I thought it was a pretty good total package: adventure, danger, romance, comedy, and the mushy memories that make you wanna cry in your hot cocoa. The Crow & Hammer get a little spotlight in here so if nothing else I've said has convinced you, I hope that does! Seeing references from Tori's series made me want to reread her books again to see if Kit's anywhere in the background, and this is for sure a series I recommend you pick up.

"The whole thing was insane. You could write an entire book about that shitshow." 4 stars I. Love. Kit. Here. I said it. Another GC guy who has captured my heart within the very first pages. I love how the authors explors more and more of the universe and honestly, each book feels differently and I love it to explore the universe out of different eyes - be it from Tori, Robin or now Kit's perspective. Each of them entered the mythic world differently and seeing now how the MPD works from Kit's perspective makes me screaming to get the second book asap. Kit Morris is probably the most hilarious character I've ever met. Sadly, I didn't understand all of his movie references (he makes a loooooot of movie/tv show references), but nonetheless, this dude is soo funny and intriguing! We get a glimpse of his past and I am so excited to learn more about him and of course about Lienna and the MDP. Without nothing more to add: I loved this new addition to the Guild Codes Universe and I need the second book now!

What I really liked: - Kit and Lienna - I definitely think this is the funniest Annette Marie book I’ve ever read - Learning more about the MPD - I actually enjoyed a male POV. If this is your first introduction to this world this won’t be an issue - I have a hard time getting into books where I know that certain characters will be fine. Some of the suspense is missing because I know that certain characters make appearances in future (in the timeline) books (Guild Codex, Demonized) Overall I’m super excited about this series. For the next book I’ll be sure to reread some of the books from Guild Codex/ Demonized so I don’t get caught up in trying to remember the details that I might’ve forgotten.

This book was awful. I'm surprised it was written by Annette Marie. I've enjoyed her books, especially her characters. The characters in this book aren't likable, fun or interesting to read. Kit big surprise super power reveal reminded me of certain X-Men villain. I won't read the other books in this spin-off. I will get cliff notes for whatever things ties to the other series. *Really a 1 star book for me but added another cause I really like this world and set of series.

Kit Morris what a fantastic addition you are. Here lies the story of how Kit Morris becomes apart of the MPD. I’ve been geeking over this story since we were given an excerpt at the end of one of the Guild Codex: Spellbound books a while back. & it’s spot on. Kit is hilarious, charming, self aware psychic mythic whose just trying to get out of dodge. His pop cultures references and movie trivia are second to none and his limits are pushed while he’s trying to escape custody. With Agent Lienna Sh Kit Morris what a fantastic addition you are.
