An inspiring story of hope and resiliency  On April 6, 2018, sixteen people died and thirteen others were injured after a bus taking the Humboldt Broncos junior hockey team to a playoff game collided with a transport truck in a rural intersection. The tragedy moved millions of people to leave hockey sticks by their front door to show sympathy and support for the Broncos. Pe An inspiring story of hope and resiliency  On April 6, 2018, sixteen people died and thirteen others were injured after a bus taking the Humboldt Broncos junior hockey team to a playoff game collided with a transport truck in a rural intersection. The tragedy moved millions of people to leave hockey sticks by their front door to show sympathy and support for the Broncos. People from more than eighty countries pledged millions of dollars to families whose relatives had been directly involved in the accident. Crossroads is the story of Kaleb Dahlgren, a young man who survived the bus crash and faced life after the tragedy with resiliency and positivity. In this chronicle of his time with the Broncos and the loving community of Humboldt, Saskatchewan, Dahlgren takes a hard look at his experience of unprecedented loss, but also revels in the overwhelming response and outpouring of love from across Canada and around the world. But this book also goes much deeper, revealing the adversity Dahlgren faced long before his time in Humboldt and his inspiring journey since the accident.  From a childhood spent learning to live with type 1 diabetes to his remarkable recovery from severe brain trauma that astounded medical professionals, Dahlgren documents a life of perseverance, gratitude and hope in the wake of enormous obstacles and life-altering tragedy.  The author will donate a portion of his proceeds from this book to STARS (Shock Trauma Air Rescue Service).

Even if you’re not a big nonfiction reader (I rarely read nonfiction). Even if you think it might be too sad, or too hard to get through. The second half is his life afterwards. He has such a gift for writing, and his strength, resilience, and never-ending positivity are absolutely life-changing. This is a book that is going to stay with me forever. I feel like I’m walking away from this book with so many different ways of facing the challenges life brings. I feel like Kaleb, in all of his 23 year old wisdom, has taught me valuable lessons. The best part of that is those lessons are things he learned from each and every one of the people that were lost that day. As a middle-aged mom, it’s hard to believe that I would be able to relate to Kaleb, but I did in so many ways. Kaleb describes how he was always the “mom” of his teams, and that’s exactly who I am. I’m the “mom” of my friends group, the “mom” of my workplace. I’m the one who always takes care of the rest of the group. So is Kaleb. Yes, I was in tears through much of this book, but I feel so blessed and grateful to Kaleb for allowing me the chance to get to know him, the Humboldt survivors, and the Broncos that were lost. I was one of those people that put my stick out after that crash. That left my porch light on. That wore my jersey to work at a bookstore on jersey day to show my support for Humbolt. But I had NO idea how important those small gestures were to Kaleb, the survivors, and the town. I hope this book sells millions of copies. I know that I have mine preordered, although I was lucky enough to be sent an ARC. Thank you so much, Harpercollins Canada, for providing me with an ARC of this beautiful book. I hope to one day meet Kaleb to thank him in person for having the courage to put his life, pain, and recovery onto paper.

Wow!! This book has left me with all the feels and emotions. It chronicles the life up until this point of Humbolt Bronco's bus crash survivor Kaleb Dahlgren. "Tell me I'm dreaming" The first words Kaleb says to his parents following the crash. For 4 consecutive days. On April 6,2018 Kaleb and his team mates would be involved a crash with a semi truck en route to a playoff game that would claim the lives of 16 team and staff members and critically injure 13 others including himself. It was a day that shook a nation. Having been diagnosed with Type 1 diabeties at the age of 4, Kaleb is no stranger to adversity but this would test even his resilience. He have have survived the crash but he sustained multiple life threatening injuries including : broken neck, fractured skull, a brain injury, partial de-gloving of the scalp and a puncture wound to the skull. Crossroads tells an amazing story of recovery, resilience and reflection. We are let into the life of an absolutely inspirational young man who has over come yet faces it with such grace and humility. And aims to take a traumatic situation and better himself and the world. " I needed to live big, because they can't live their lives. I need to live my life big- for me and for them" And he shows his commitment to this statement with his drive to try and continue playing competitive hockey, maintaining deans lists University grades and the continuation and growth of his charity Dahlgren's Diabeauties. This vulnerable memoir is a must read, whether you're a fan of the game or not. #humboltstrong

I liked that the book focuses on Dahlgrens life as a young kid getting into hockey, his relationship with his parents, his work ethic , his dreams and hard work in pursuit of goals and dreams while always giving back to community. The second half of the book focuses on the accident and life afterwards, capturing universal themes such grief, recovery, determination, character, acceptance and moving forward. And 13 very injured survivors. Broncos assistant captain and Crossroads author Kaleb Dahlgren takes us into the story we experienced through the headlines. But more than that, he gives of himself to the reader. Simply stated, this is an incredible story. We meet Kaleb's parents who met in nursing school. Learn of Kaleb being diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of four. The near-fatal illness of his beloved father. And through it all, the unwavering love of playing hockey and being part of a team, of a family. All of which led to the tragic events of April 6 and the aftermath. It's so evident through this book that Kaleb is a talented, compassionate and humble person. His openness and positivity ensure you can't put this book down. This is such a worthy read and I can't recommend it highly enough. A portion of proceeds from book sales will be donated by the author to STARS Air Ambulance.

Dahlgren faced so many challenges growing up as a young child being diagnosed with diabetes and having his own father recover a difficult illness while being away playing hockey. Dalhgren used his life as a diabetic to give back to the communities he was a part of and cared so deeply for those around him, not just his own professional gains. It is heart wrenching to hear Dalhgren's stories about his Bronco family but this is a huge part of recent Canadian history that spread around the world. I remember writing a final in university wearing my VGK jersey on April 12 for jersey day in support of the Humboldt Broncos. I see the signs and sticks out in the communities around me where members from the team grew up and will never get to return to. Every time I see a Humboldt Strong sticker on a passing car it makes me think about all of the young lives that were lost and drastically altered that day. This is a book everyone needs to read.

On April 6, 2018, the hockey world stopped when news of the bus tragedy that so deeply affected the Humboldt Broncos hockey team. This book, the story as told by player Kaleb Dahlgreen is quite powerful as he shares his memories from before the accident and his recovery and growth after. To say that he is a miracle is likely an understatement. He suffered a serious, traumatic brain injury and neurologists were both shocked and amazed that he was able to walk, talk, express himself... apart from a loss of memory from the accident to four days later, Kaleb really is quite remarkable. He demonstrates a sense of determination, struggle, frustration, hard work and recovery - against all odds. There are reasons miracles happen in the world--- people like Kaleb have a purpose that needs to be fulfilled. Kaleb is sharing his story by also honouring the "sixteen angels" who watch over him each day! He is dealing with the trauma and pain of loss... but pushes himself to be the best he can be! Kaleb Dahlgreen is an inspiration!

Tears ran down my face as I recalled my own trauma while reading about Kaleb’s. As he says, wounds heal but leave scars. How true. The result of my illness was a physical scar from my sternum to my waste, some mental refuse, and becoming a diabetic for the last 36 years. Yes, I identify, but even at the age of 70, Kaleb’s story has given me additional valuable perspective. Thank you for sharing, Kaleb. It is an important book.

I recently finished reading this book - it was a real eye opener and did nothing less than amaze me. I would 110% recommend. The strength, courage, and resilience Kaleb proves to have is absolutely mind blowing. You learn about his life, and how he honors those 16 lost in everything he does - he lives on for them - just as I’d imagine they’d want him to do. All in all, AMAZING and would highly recommend!

This is a book that one word describes - miracle! A miracle in the telling after a day when people not only in Saskatchewan paused to take notice and remember. I didn’t know much about this story other than what was in the headlines at the time but Kaleb has turned his tragedy into positives and written a lovely book celebrating the teammates he lost.

This book is a very good read. This young man is mature beyond his years. It is a gripping recount of being part of a close knit “hockey team family” that faces the heartbreak of losing 16 members of his hockey family in a horrific bus crash on their way to a playoff game. It will make you cry and wonder how such a tragedy could happen. It will also show how Kaleb’s inspiration in dealing with this life changing event and how he has the courage to carry on with his life. I encourage anyone to re This book is a very good read. All the reviewers seem to love this book, however, I felt like it didn't tell me much more than I already knew from reading numerous news articles since the bus crash. Would have liked to have learned more about how he and his family have coped and endured from so many incredibly difficult setbacks (seems they have taken more hits than any single family) should ever have to endure and more discussion of triumph and never losing hope. The book is mostly a description of events. Read this in one day. I could not put it down. It was beautifully written. Kaleb not only shares his story of the accident but his life leading up to the accident. His journey after the accident and all of the events that happened after. I will say I cried a few times. We all of course know of the Humboldt Broncos but hearing it from Kaleb’s point of view will help you understand the pain of the loss even more. Definitely 5⭐️

He is so genuine and real, and makes notice that we all can get through the tough times. Definitely worth a read for anyone & everyone. Such a good book for all ages.

Inspiring, profound, gut-wrenching, uplifting and honest. Kaleb’s life story of facing adversity of Type 1 diabetes, his Dad’s life threatening illness and surviving the Humboldt Broncos bus crash that killed 16. If you need a boost of positive thinking and a dose of resilience, I highly recommend this read.

This was a tough book to get through. Many times I had to set it aside to wipe the tears from my eyes. As someone who is born and raised in Saskatchewan, this book really represents what we all as a province went through on that tragic day. A must read for everyone.

If you pick up a book this year let this be the one. You will laugh and cry. Even if you don’t like hockey or remember what is was like riding as a team on a bus. The power of the human spirit is remarkable and this book will uplift you spirit. All the stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Amazing. Inspiring. Gut wrenching. Dahlgren’s journey, his attitude and the amount that he gives back to his community make him truly one of a kind. So glad he decided to share his story. “Enjoy the Grind”.

Very good read. Well written by a young author that chose to focus on the positive after experiencing a life altering tragedy. I can’t even begin to imagine how you would be able to move forward after an event like this. Don’t complain about the little things !!!
