Alexa, why are men? Seriously… reading the men in this book makes you wonder if we should do without them. Okay, okay…I know not all men are like this, but in this book? Holy crap! I guess this could best be described as an urban domestic thriller filled with so many trashy people. Out of all our main characters, I liked two: wife #3 and wife #2 (in that order). The rest – well, you know what you do with trash! The story moves very quickly and the author does a good job of getting us thoroughly in Alexa, why are men? Received this book as an ARC from Net Galley. This was my 1st read by this author but won’t be my last. From the very 1st chapter I was captivated by the characters. This book was full of lies, secrets and suspense. I can’t wait to read the next installment.

Well, well, well, what do we have here??? A delightfully engrossing and fun book about one wealthy businessman and his unsuspecting three wives. Someone has shot Cyrus Grey and when two of his wives’ rush to the hospital they get more than they bargained for - the knowledge that their husband was a bigamist. The you-know-what is going to hit the fan! Vanessa has been married to Cyrus for eleven years and they have three children together. She knew things were not right in her marriage, heck even she is up to no good on the side, but she was shocked to hear another woman say she was married to Cyrus. Noelle, a former model, believes her marriage to Cyrus is solid. She desperately wants a child and would like to know why Cyrus does not want to have a child with her. She is flabbergasted when she rushes to the hospital and hears Vanessa say she is married to Cyrus. Diamond is also married to Cyrus. He saved her from her former life. She is having her pretty woman moment, but her former life draws the attention of the police who believe that she may be a suspect in her husband's shooting. How will she prove them wrong? Oh, how deliciously fun this was! You can feel the deception dripping from the pages! If Shelly Ellis is not on your radar, she needs to be! This book is full of conniving, tomfoolery, sex, lies, anger, planning, scheming, and danger. So good!!! Try to put this one down! I dare you, try it! The characters are interesting and the plot intriguing. I kept trying to wrap my mind around how he pulled it off. How do you have three wives - not sister wives - but three wives, three residences, three set of bills, lifestyles, etc. HOW does he do it? Why are the women not suspicious? He cannot spend that much time with any of them. How much traveling can a businessman do? Will you like all the characters? Will you feel sorry for any of them? There was one I felt sorry for. Sometimes I have a hard time with a book if I cannot feel for or root for the characters. But Ellis has created characters who you would like to dislike. Each is unique and has his/her own issues and things going on in their lives. This book is like a nighttime soap opera and I mean that in the best possible way. This book is marketed as a thriller, but I see it more as a domestic drama with suspense and the central mystery of who shot Cyrus and why or should I say who would not want to shoot him? This was pure escapism reading and I look forward to the next book! This book is not too heavy nor it is too light, it is just perfect when you want to kick back and be entertained. Thank you to Kensington Books and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own. The Three Mrs. Greys was a fast-paced read full of secrets, drama, and lies. It was a juicy story! What happens when a wealthy businessman thinks he can have it all? What happens when the lives of three women are turned upside down in the blink of an eye? Who can be trusted? While I did not find the storyline to be the most original, there was definitely enough spice and adventure to keep the reader engaged all the way through. This was a fun one.

More often than not, people like this have jobs where they are constantly "traveling" so a business trip is spending time with their other wives. In the Three Mrs. Greys by Shelly Ellis, we meet our husband Cyrus Grey and his first wife - Vanessa whom he has been married to for 11 years and they have three children. Vanessa has recently been having an affair with her son's sports coach as she has been craving attention her husband no longer gives her. His second wife Noelle he has been married to for four years and is a little unstable but dreams of being a mother however Cyrus keeps changing the subject on her and then we have Diamond - a former drug addict and sex worker whose former pimp and boyfriend is in prison. Diamond has been married to Cyrus for a year. While out with Wife #3, Cyrus is shot and rushed to the hospital - here they call his next of kin which is Vanessa, meanwhile, Tariq who is Cyrus's business partner calls Noelle. The two meets at the hospital and soon discover that Cyrus kept a truckload of secrets and read as they unfold when the pair of them discover that he was shot while with his 3rd wife - Diamond. The Three Mrs. Greys by Shelly Ellis was a fast-paced novel that kept my interest as I loved reading their reactions when they discovered one another. This book does end on a small cliffhanger, so I am looking forward to the direction that Shelly will take in Book #2.

Fast-paced story that keeps the reader guessing. Whodunnit? Was it one of the three women married to the same man, or was it one of their “friends” or one of his associates? With excellent characters, the author has a great plot as well and a winner on her hands. I received an advanced digital copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

It’s not out of the question for there to be three – or probably a whole lot more – Mrs. Greys in the Washington DC/Baltimore megapolis. But Cyrus William Grey is a considerably less common name taken all together. While it’s still possible for the man to have had three wives one after another – divorce is certainly a thing, after all – for three women to all believe that they are CURRENTLY Mrs. Cyrus William Grey is a bit of a stretch. That they all had a reason to kill him – or to have him killed – after their mutual discovery isn’t actually a surprise. That one of them may have attempted to do the deed before she found out about the other two is what makes this story so fascinating. The story of the three Mrs. Greys is really about the falling of a house of cards – and just what happens to all of those cards once they’ve crashed to the ground around the builder of that house – in this case Cyrus William Grey. At first, it seems like the story is all about the women – and just about the women. Mostly because Cyrus is laid up in the hospital after taking three bullets to the chest and is in a medically induced coma. He’s not “there” to keep his house of cards from crashing. That’s where things get interesting, as the three Mrs. Greys reveal who they are, or who they used to be, or a bit of both, without Cyrus there to keep them guessing or placated or too busy to notice what the man behind the curtain is doing. Who might not be, or might not only be, Cyrus Grey. Escape Rating B: I don’t want to say too much about the story, because this is one of those stories where layers keep peeling back, not just the layers that Cyrus deliberately put in place, but also the layers of secrets that his three wives managed to wrap around themselves during all the time when they thought he was away on a business trip. After all, if each of them was only getting about a third of his time, that means they each had another 2/3rds to spend alone. Or not alone, as at least one of the cases turns out to be. The story is told through alternating points of view, day by day, for the week after Cyrus Grey gets himself shot. And he certainly did get himself shot. Not that he set himself up, but that he wasn’t keeping track of all the messes he left in his wake as he danced between his wives and his not-quite-successful-enough business. Supporting three separate households in the style to which they wished to become accustomed is an expensive undertaking. One that threatens to send Cyrus Grey to an undertaker – one way or another. This isn’t a case where the reader has to like one – or honestly any – of the protagonists in order to get caught up in the story. No one has clean hands in this one, and everyone has secrets that aren’t as secret as they thought they were. But the whole thing is utterly fascinating. The reader – along with all three Mrs. Greys – can’t help but marvel at the whole thing. It’s not a surprise that it fell apart, it’s a surprise that he managed it as long as he did. So The Three Mrs. Greys is that kind of deliciously scandalous story where just desserts get passed all around. And it’s so satisfying in the sense that the whole thing couldn’t have happened to a more deserving bunch of people. (Not quite like the Thrombey family in Knives Out – but comparisons could be made) It’s also not over yet. The author plans to continue the story in further books. After all, nobody’s dead yet. Considering just how big of a mess this is, somebody’s going to be a dead body before the last of those just desserts is finally served. One final note: when I was growing up, Cincinnati was not as big as the Baltimore/DC metro area is now, but it wasn’t exactly a small town, either. We used to regularly get telephone calls for the other Joe Harris who lived in Cincy, whose wife was also named Shirley like my mother. It’s probably a good thing I wasn’t old enough to be interested in books like this one, otherwise I would have been VERY suspicious!

Three wives - the first being married 11 yrs. and nobody had a clue there were two others. Ok, ladies I married the King of this mess and trust me there's clues. Check the bank statements, see the work schedule, check in with colleagues, you know those late night get together dinner meetings, or those DC end of the year parties, how about the DC night life at the local hotel bar? Did you check the mileage on the vehicle , monitor the phone calls, oh the darn blackberry always held clues to the whereabouts. When the finances don't add up that's your sign. When the clothes are suddenly fashionable or out of the norm - you know when you go from neutrals to pastels -that's your sign. When you smell a new scent around his aura of charm and bs you know that's the sign. New shaving cream, new workouts, new gym wear, come on now....We must stay vigilant - this gal did - and after 11 yrs of marriage I uncovered a treasure trove of information from phone calls, to meetings, to screwing the intern of only 8 month visit-Thankfully she's back in Arkansas and not running and or jogging with my husband. Now, ladies when you contact her she won't wish to speak so let me tell you how this goes..."Oh, shiite your wife just called." You know that reminds me I'm still waiting for my award of wife of the year for putting up with it all while raising our three kids alone and doing so 5 states away in poverty but I digress -do enjoy that 75 k a year job while we beg for food at the local food banks and volunteer for scraps. Now, please we must know something is a bit off center but these ladies each possessed something that enticed and in fact gravitated this narcissist to them. They smell desperation, they smell isolation, they smell lack of self worth and self esteem like a meatball hoagie at Subway. They know when to come and get it if business is open. Shut it down! As if this wasn't enough the latter of the three women has a shady past and Yes, I'm speaking to you -Diamond because girlfriend shiite's going downward fast. Stand up ladies and take control. You can't let this ass-hat take you for a ride. Noelle if you want a baby go to the damn sperm bank -trust me it's less expensive, less aggravation, and at this point you might even get to choose your type. Vanessa - don't go running to the hospital when you here your cheating man is in their but rather run for your life and get a different name entirely. Enjoy Cy Jr coach and play on. Or was that-Play BALL! Darn my memory fades from all these revolving door scenarios but ladies remember the queen of cheating men knows this all too well - if you ain't lovin' yourself first you'll never find it out there. Take care of yourselves and entertain yourself because the wrong people will find you and they may just use illegitimate ways to gain a foothold over you. Much love.

Doctors induce a medical coma in the hopes it will help his recovery. In the aftermath, three different women rush to the hospital to be by his side: Vanessa, a stay-at-home mother who enjoys using her husband’s credit cards; Noelle, daughter of a drug addict and former model who has opened a women’s fashion boutique with her husband’s backing; and Diamond, whose recent marriage saved her from her life living as a prostitute under the thumb of her pimp. All three women believe Cyrus is their husband and are incredulous that they missed the clues to his deception. But do the lies go deeper? And who wanted to shoot Cyrus—someone connected to one of the women or business associate from a deal gone wrong. It’s easy for the women to hate each other, but working together might be the only way they can protect themselves. I devoured this racy domestic thriller, the first book in a new series, in a day. The three main characters are all so different, and their few direct interactions are combustible! Although Cyrus binds them, the women, of course, have different social circles (and social norms) and seeing who they trust—and take advantage of—is fascinating. The pasts of some of the characters intrude upon their plans, and I especially felt for Diamond who finds herself in an untenable position. 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘛𝘩𝘳𝘦𝘦 𝘔𝘳𝘴. 𝘎𝘳𝘦𝘺𝘴 did a great job introducing the characters and setting the stakes. There are lots of loose ends and unanswered questions that make me eager to read the next book, but that aren’t so extreme that I felt frustrated. Additionally, I am excited to have a thriller with Black characters written by a Black author. The genre needs more diversity!

She has a distinctive style that I love, where one plot point piles on another until you're not sure how the characters are going to untwist the knots. Sometimes I can guess but I delight in being wrong. The Three Mrs. Greys is the story of one man and three women. Some of my fave Lifetime movie plots are the ones where one character is leading a double life and I always secretly wonder where they get all that energy (and money!!) from because DANG. Cyrus had three whole wives and none of them knew about each other–until Cyrus is shot and they each show up at the hospital to care for her husband and find out that they're not the only Mrs. Grey. So what do you do when you find out your husband has not only been cheating, but he has two other wives? Like, not just girlfriends, side pieces, chicks he's messing with but WIVES??? I mean, I can say what *I* would do and it might involve shooting him if he wasn't already shot. I see that a few reviewers have said they knew who shot Cyrus but *shrug* despite reading a lot of mysteries and domestic thrillers, I didn't guess... mostly because at least one of his wives (or her... associate (s) had reason to get rid of him and there were a few clues to point us elsewhere-- Bilal? Julius?) If there's a super dramatic option, I'm going to go for that one. Already looking for book two, because I need to see how this three wives situation pans out. I'm guessing... not well. And I'm READY FOR IT. The Three Mrs. Greys is well paced, well written, full of patented Shelly Ellis domestic drama and a supremely entertaining read that leaves you wanting more. ASAP.

As he remains in critical condition, secrets that both he and his wives were keeping begin to be revealed. I love the premise of this book and the characters are very interesting, but for the most part unlikable. I think Noelle is trying to do the right thing in an unimaginable situation and I felt sorry for Diamond who is trying to make a better life for herself. Most of my problem with the book is my expectations. I was expecting a domestic thriller, but the book is more of a romantic suspense about who shot Cyrus and that answer becomes evident fairly quickly. I was surprised by the number of steamy love scenes in the book. In addition, the book’s description states this is the start of a new series, but I didn’t realize that nothing would be resolved in this installment. The story ends abruptly with everything in limbo with a note to stay tuned for the next entry in the series. I don’t know how many books are planned in the series or when all the questions will be answered. The book is fast-paced, so it depends on what you are looking for. I was looking for a thriller with at least the main plotline resolved by the end, so I was disappointed. Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books for this ebook. An advance copy was provided to me at no cost, but my review is voluntary and unbiased.

She cannot seem to shake her past when she finds herself in the line of fire, literally. Now she is being questioned for her husband's shooting. I liked the drama and suspense of the storyline. I would've like to have a bit more about why Cyrus had three wives, his end game. If you think this review leaves you with unanswered questions, that is how I feel. I can only hope that more will be coming soon. If you enjoy a love triangle with a twist, drama, and suspense, this is a must-read for you.

There are three Mrs. Greys, Noelle who is a model and is wife # 3, Diamond who is wife # 2, a drug addict, lady of the evening who Cyrus saves from her pimp and she wants a baby and then there’s Vanessa who is wife # 1 and she and Cyrus have three children; and she is having an affair with her son’s coach because she is lonely and Cyrus isn’t spending very time with her. How could he with 2 other wives. Messy, messy. Each, woman thinks she’s the only wife. It’s a mystery how Cyrus was able to pull it off. I was hooked from page one and could not put it down. But I needed sleep. Cyrus and wife # 3 are together and he gets shot and is rushed to the hospital. Now all of the drama begins and the next of kin who is Vanessa is called to the hospital and Cyrus’s business partner Tariq calls Noelle; now all three Mrs. Greys are at the hospital. This is oh so good and I hope that it comes out on audiobooks and I will be able to hear all of the drama with all of the characters. Shelly, hurry up and write book # 2, why a cliff hanger? Thank you Netgalley and Dafina Kensington Books for giving me an ARC. I’m voluntarily leaving my review.

Noelle is also married to Cyrus for the last two years. She is contacted by her husband’s business partner Tariq who tells her that there is a third wife named Diamond who was with Cyrus when he was shot. He also promises her to tell her more truths about her husband when she is ready to hear them. Diamond is the youngest of the wives and the one I personally found the most sympathetic though I wanted to shake her. Diamond was working as a prostitute in her past life and her former pimp has been released from prison and she is sure that he is the one who targeted them. With Cyrus in a coma, each of the wives has a different reaction and not all are hoping he wakes up. The characters of the three wives is well done and the story is fast paced but I did not care for the racial epithet used frequently through the book. Readers should be aware this ends in a “ to be continued” with none of the issues resolved. If you are looking for a light entertaining read with characters to both hate and root for, you may enjoy this.

”What other secrets had Cyrus kept from Noelle? But in reality, the story drifted a little too far from believable, and there was definitely more focus on the love triangle (love quadrangle?) and “how could he *do* this to me?!” than on any real intrigue or suspense. It was over-the-top dramatic, which may really appeal to readers who love a good catfight, but I didn’t connect with any of the characters enough to care about their stories. I didn’t feel like I got to know any of them, beyond their collective desires for a rich husband and to oust the other ladies vying for his affection. It was a light, quick read, which was nice, but it got a little crass at times. Not a bad book, but not my favorite. —— Thank you to Shelly Ellis, Kensington Books, and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review! —— Follow @letteredlibrary on Instagram!

All three of them are married to Cyrus Grey and none of them know that they aren’t his only wife. The premise of this book intrigued and hooked me from the very beginning. I kept asking myself HOW COULD THEY NOT KNOW? THE THREE MRS. GREYS is the perfect exploration of what happens when the truth comes out and secrets are revealed. Every single character is flawed, seems real, and has their own reasons for wanting their truths to stay buried. Personally I was a fan of Noelle, but I really enjoyed how the chapters alternated between all the women. I also really liked how the book took place over exactly one week as it’s broken up into sections with days ranging from Monday-Sunday. Being that it’s the first in a series you are left with a lot unanswered. I think it works though because it leaves you wanting more. And there were definitely a lot of surprises and twists from beginning to end which helped to make this a fast paced read. I’m excited already for book two and hope that you’ll give this one a try! 4/5 ⭐️

I legit don't know what I would do if I ran to the hospital because I found out my husband was shot and then get there and find he has two other wives. I certainly hope there's nothing that can be used as a weapon near me though..... Of course the women talk, there's more to the story behind each of them and drama bubbles up page after page after page! I am here for all of it. I did feel that the "twist:reveal" left me underwhelmed. I saw it coming but it was almost too simple - especially for the reasoning. Just my opinion because if we were going to get all this build up, then I needed something better than... well, y'all are just going to have to read this if you want to know. 😉 Come for the steamy scenes and fill yourself full of drama. As a first-in-a-series, it lends well to getting the reader to know the main characters and put a base on a continuing storyline. Despite some misses, I was thoroughly entertained and absolutely will need to see where this goes. There's no rest for the wicked... or the reader who loves to read about them.

Fighting each other proves to be futile when the shooter is still at large and the police have their reasons to suspect each wife. This book was explosive from chapter one. It drew us in quickly as we got submerged in the mystery of who shot Cyrus Grey. There was no lack of twists in this novel. From Vanessa’s questionable behavior, enormous stupidity, and loose lips as an older woman, to Noelle’s nosiness and sweet spirit, to Diamond’s naivety and misfortunes, this book was steeped in suspense and good old-fashioned DRAMA. What was off-putting was the incessant use of exclamation marks. It made it appear as if the characters were always yelling even during calm conversation. Also, there was a bit of predictability at one point with Tariq. In the end, the book is a power punched read that will have you eagerly flipping page after page. Thank you NetGalley for this book and we are voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Delicious guilty pleasure book that is much more “domestic” than “thriller,” but I enjoyed the heck out of it. This story is about three Black women in three very different marriages....three marriages which, they learn at the beginning of the novel, are to the very same man. And of course, they find all this out when their husband is shot. (By a man hired by one of them? Or by someone else entirely?) I loved all three of the wife characters who at first seem very different - Vanessa, the somewhat spoiled, bored Neiman Marcus shopping housewife who was married to Cyrus for over a decade and who is having an affair with the kids’ much younger soccer coach; the younger, softer wife and fashion model with mental health issues; and the feisty, somewhat troublesome Diamond who has an ex-boyfriend fresh out of prison, and who seems to be Suspect Number One in Cyrus’ shooting. The book is juicy and sex and drama is plentiful. The author, Shelly Ellis, is very funny and gives me Lolita Files vibes. I liked the mystery but really enjoyed getting to know these women even more. (Wish I could say the same for Cyrus and the low down dirty friends of his who helped make his three marriages possible.) I would happily read another book about these characters and it looks like one might be in the works. Recommended! Thanks to Kensington Books, NetGalley and the author for this fun read.

I find stories about people who live a double life fascinating. In the case of Cyrus Grey, he is living three different lives. The first live seems to be the most normal. She's a recovered drug addict and an ex prostitute So when Cyrus is shot while out with Diamond, the three wives come together at the hospital. The story is a story of Who Done it? Did one of the wives manage to do this or was it some of Cyrus's shady associates? All in all it was a great thriller who kept you guessing and invested throughout the whole book. I quickly realized who was responsible for the attack and their motivation. Once it was confirmed I was annoyed by the simplicity of it all. The detectives investigating the shooting seem to have no clue what is going on and seem to only exist for the purpose of harassing and scaring the wives. They are rude, unprofessional and just plain dumb. Unfortunately, most of the characters are unlikable. Quite honestly it was hard to care about 3/4 of them. They are not well developed and it's difficult to care about their fates. The plot could benefit from more time and attention if not in this book perhaps in the next installment. Too bad I won't get any closure, but I do not care enough for these characters to stick around and find out.

I know every person alive in this world have their issues, but in a book I expect someone to come to the front of the story as having some redeeming features and you can root for them. I didn't find anyone in this telling that I wanted to root for. Mostly I disliked everyone. Oh so so many stereotypes. Again, I am not the target audience, but reinforcing stereotypes is not going to win me over. I kept reading just to see where this story was going. It stops at a cliff hanger. I have not formed any attachment to the fate of any of the characters so I do not plan on continuing the series. Now go find your GoodReads.

But the Three Mrs. Greys’ worst offense is that has no real conclusion. It moves seamlessly into a teaser chapter for the next book in the series set maybe a month after the ending of the previous book. I hate that! For that reason, this book receives only 2 stars from me. Thanks to Dafina, Kensington Books and NetGalley for a copy in exchange for my honest review.
