Cheer Churchill. Vote Labour: The story of the 1945 General Election

A fascinating read. In particular, what I found interesting was that Churchill was attending mass rallies which were attended by thousands of people across the country - people would cheer his name everywhere. It gave the Conservatives a false sense of security as the election result showed the mass rallies didn't translate into votes.
It kind of reminds me of a more recent political leader who was under the impression that mass rallies where people would chant his name translated into mass votes A fascinating read. It kind of reminds me of a more recent political leader who was under the impression that mass rallies where people would chant his name translated into mass votes and was subsequently shocked on election day. Who can name this leader?
