Going into this book I wasn't sure how I would feel about a book from Inara's point of view. Let me just say, that this ended up being one of the best books in the series! I read most of it in one night, and because I just couldn't put it down, I ended up not going to sleep until 3 0'clock in the morning! Part of the reason for that is the fact that so many things are revealed in this book that I've been waiting for answers for. Another part is that I genuinely liked Inara for most of the book. And of course there is always the fact that Bridget Baker does such a good job at sucking me into her stories. The scope of this book is huge. Many years are covered, and we get so much background on Inara and some of the other characters. I loved that about the book. I thought Inara's character was well developed and it made sense why she made all the choices she made, even if I didn't agree with all of them. I understood how she got from point A to point B in her life, and I had sympathy for her up to a point. My one little quibble is the insta-love thing that happens at one point in the book. I do need to add that I have since finished this series, and after reading the next book and learning more about how the berserker thing works and how certain feelings can happen for certain reasons, the insta-love made more sense, but at the time I read this I just didn't understand it, and I spent a good part of the book in disbelief. Despite that, I feel like overall this was an excellent book, and after finishing it I had to immediately start the next one! Thanks to the author for providing me with an ARC of this book. Book 6 in this brilliant Birthright Series is as good as any of the others, it continues to expand on who the various characters you read about in the previous books were and the plots that come forth keep you guessing right through to the last page, even then you want to continue reading this superb story line. Inara is one of the older daughters of Enora and Althuselah and she is a very confused person .She wants the love between herself and parents, particularly her father, however, doubts always come forth on her thoughts and feelings. She is very conflicted over this and often actions and comments from Enora her mother fuel Inara's uncertainty's. Her mother Enora acts very differently to what Inara expects from a mother and the greater love and caring seems to come from her farther instead, meaning she grows closer to him during her growing up to adulthood. Her mother has always been a ruthless ruler, mainly promoted by the type of people Evians have become and always acted towards everybody, other Evians and humans. Enora has particular disregard for the human race so she does not really care what happens to them. This has also affected Inara's attitude towards them as she grows up amongst this attitude. She is involved in many conflicts promoted by other people and in particular her mother who uses Inara to sought out problems for the families role as rulers. One day when Inara is outside training with her father to become a better fighter, they are challenged by a number of fighters from another ruler sent to cause some problems to the Alamecha Royal family by causing them grief through death. During this encounter something happens within Inara and she learns of a terrible secret she has and she is quite terrified by it through lack of any control she has over this affliction. The end result on this occasion was very welcome because it meant her and her father were safe, although, one serious event during this occasion was just avoided, meaning they were kept safe this time. However, the overall meaning had a very serious affect on her life, there was something near impossible to control that she had to learn how to if she was going to be able to continuing living her existing life in peace and in control with those she loved. Not doing this was beyond thinking about and it terrified her. Inara was again sent on a mission by Enora to negotiate a peace deal with another rival family, but one of the personnel representing the other family she meets seems to be the absolute love of her life and is just so blown away by her feelings which are reciprocated by the other person too. The two of them find it hard to believe the feelings that have burst upon them and their minds are full of what the future holds for them together. Because of this persons status, Inara brings them back to her home as a refuge to meet the family and in particular mother Enora, daughters did not make a move of plans without her approval. Her intention was to seek mothers approval to possibly take this person as her consort, it was felt because of her age she should have been working towards this anyway, so Enora made known. Because of various events that kept arising Inaras intention to advise Enora of her wishes to name this person as her consort kept being delayed and this caused her much trepidation to making her wishes known. One day Enora dropped a bombshell on Inaras life and she was wiped out by this announcement. How could her loving mother do this to her and especially how could the love of her life do this to her. Inara, being a strong person kept on with her life, but she had no joy or pleasure from it and as a result she became very unstable and her thoughts kept on being confused by her feelings for some family members, not always the kindest thoughts too, she was very bitter over her betrayal and as time passed she changed dramatically and became a deadly enemy unbeknown to many. She maintained her family image but only to really help her put her plans into action to get where she wanted to be, "Head of the World". Inara becomes a person to fear and her guile is bought into the story by the author in a superb manner, there are numerous plots and strategies she adopts and these keep the interest and the What's Next thoughts flowing in a most interesting and arresting manner. The continuing saga of the Alamecha family and the many ever arising conflicts keep a reader on edge as to what is going to happen next and the writer, B.E.B, has done an absolute superb job of keeping this story so interesting and the reader sought of can't read fast enough to see what's next. After so many books in this series to me the interest is still bubbling and I will miss not having such an exciting read to look forward to after reading the last book, no doubt B.B has plans to keep us busy. I have written this review of my own accord without any incentive or enticement from any person or company.

Oh my goodness she has done it yet again. I just finished this book and am in shock. What a great book it has you hooked from the beginning and keeps you on your toes. I have read every single one of the books in the birthright series and they just keep getting better. Inara is one tough woman who doesn't just take life laying down. To stay true to one's path for 200 years and being the pawn without breaking is incredible. But sometimes enough is enough. Bridget E. Baker has a way with words that are incredible. If you enjoy a book that will keep you entertained, that will make you question yourself, something that is intriguing but still entertaining even with some hardships this is the series for you. I don't want to give away anything but this is a must read not just for girls but boys as well. Do not take everything the way it has been given to you fight for what you believe and what you think is right. Make yourself be heard because you owe it to yourself. Bridget E. Baker is a must read and auto-buy in my eyes because no matter what she never disappoints.

This one started off as my least favorite and then it started connecting all the dots. I got so excited I just couldn’t put it down. I did feel like from the point Inara was on the beach with Chancery through the end of the book it was so rushed. It just plowed right through to the end so quickly. I know if it had been detailed out like the rest of the book it would have been soooo long, and maybe it will fill in gaps in I really love this series. Couldn't put it down! I don't like spoilers in reviews so I will try to avoid it here, but Inara -- GAH!! The books by Baker where we see the villains' perspective are usually my favorite. Maybe that's partly why I'm a social worker -- I rarely think that people are all bad and I understand self-destruction. Following Inara down her path was so painful. I loved meeting Althuselah as well and enjoyed how Baker intertwines the Evian story with actual historical events. So good! Couldn't put it down! Just wow! I could not put this book down. It gave me so many feels. I cried so much. Inara has had such a twisted life and she’s about to crack. Everyone she loves get taken away from her. She’s always the go to sister, the one who supports, comforts, and encourages. However she gets little in return, only one tragedy after another. I am very interested to see how this series turns out. There have been so many surprises along the way. Nothing is as it ever seems.

I don't know how she does it, but somehow, Ms Baker manages to make a thrilling and exciting story based on side characters. I have to say that out of them, Inara's was my favourite so far! Inara's story featured so many twists and turns, ones that shake you to the core and make you pause reading in disbelief (it's a good feeling btw, it is like an adrenaline rush and gets the heart pounding) I loved this 🥰 I don't know how she does it, but somehow, Ms Baker manages to make a thrilling and exciting story based on side characters. I know I said the last book was my favorite but that was until I read this one. Oh my goodness was this amazing. It tied everything we've been wanting to know together. Wow...Inara...I am at a loss for words with her story and her decisions and what led her to make those decisions. This book was just simply amazing. Amazing writing, storyline and backstory. Did not like Inara, so took a star off because I just couldn't like her even knowing her history. We are all given opportunities to make choices in life and I really don't like her choices and think she blames others for her own decisions. Clean story. Amazing writing, storyline and backstory. This book was so good for filling in missing pieces that I didn't even realize were missing along with moving the story forward in a way that left me hungry for more. Once again, the genius that is Bridget E. Baker has flipped the script! Just when I think the antagonist's actions are UNFORGIVABLE, we switch POVs to delve into the complicated and twisted backstory. We find ourselves rooting for her and empathizing with her even in her darkest deeds. This is a stunning penultimate story that I'm sure is leading to an even more gripping finale!
