In his new book Odyssey, Justin Camp offers a practical, scriptural field guide for men who are ready to walk this ancient path. The book is built around six short biographies, real-life stories of great American astronauts. A fantastic challenge for men regardless of their current position or status in life. Camp does a pretty good job in bringing in micro-histories from NASA astronauts who have encountered God in order to lead us through different phases of our journeys with Him. Turning each page and reading about these men of courage and valor made me want to keep turning pages. Connecting these stories and their themes back to my life and my walk with God makes me want to drop everything and go on an adventure. Truly a book that makes you introspect and realign you’re priorities toward the one who invites us into a relationship with Him.

This is Jill’s husband and I wanted to post a review on Justin Camp’s newest book, “Odyssey: Encounter the God of Heaven and Escape The Surly Bonds of this World.” I received an early e-book copy and I have been reading it with my 14 year old son. I find it a very good book for any guy and I believe it will challenge them to truly see what their relationship with God is and how it can be deeper than they ever imagined. The book shows us how other men have walked out their faith, in their day to day lives, and challenges us to live our lives from God’s true perspective of us, and not how we fear God is looking at us. That fear of how God may see us, keeps us from being in true relationship with Him. I will even say that fear keeps us from being in true relationship with others in our lives in our lives as well. I have never written a book review before but I can highly recommend this book to others! It is never too soon, to be in true relationship with our Father.

I enjoyed both his first book and this one. Justin writes well and weaving the story of the astronauts was quite amazing. Justin often wrote about his trips away to gather his thoughts and the like. Most men reading his book do not have that kind of luxury and I felt at times, I could not relate to what he was saying. Most men do not have the means to not work for months at a time and leave the professions. I am not saying Justin's life is not fulfilled, good for him for having the opportunity to do what he truly loves, but he wrote often about getting away for some quiet time (maybe 30 minutes or more), even that is hard. Though our clocks and lives are different, the lessons in this book and his prior one were good. Nice to hear writing from people at least who have worked in the non-Christian world to give insights.

It’s been an honor to be on another book launch team that was for a well written, well thought-out, impactful piece of literature by Justin Camp of The Wire for Men devotionals. This book is about journeying with God, he cuts out most of the religious attributes that can hinder your encounters and the exercises at the end of each chapter are superb. Can’t recommend it enough. The stories about the six astronauts, their backgrounds, and their encounters in space and on our planet are phenomenal.

Odyssey is the story of six men, astronauts, sojourners in space and in life as they sought a closer relationship and walk with God. Justin captures their struggles, failures and victories, not only as astronauts, but as husbands, fathers and disciples of Jesus Christ. I was blessed to be apart of the launch team and read this book prior to the launch. I highly recommend this book for me who are trying to build a stronger relationship with God. Odyssey is truly a journey that is well with the read. With each chapter, my desire to draw closer to God grew stronger. This was a timely and necessary read for me and I pray it become a blessing for all who read it.

Odyssey is a book that has challenged me in my walk with God. Spotlighted in the book are six astronauts for the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo programs that were on a spiritual journey not unlike ours. Each section has questions to challenge our spiritual odyssey. The book has help me to become closer to my Lord and Savior and I can not wait to share with the men my church.
John Hotchkiss –
Truly challenging. Nearly all books, Christian or not, leave you without issuing calls to action. Odyssey is a specific and compelling call to action from Justin Camp. Men, go beyond the intellectual pursuit of God. Put your feet on the ground, on the road. Put your FULL trust in Jesus. Follow him. Here is the why and the how.

Such a great book! Love to read the biographical stories of astronauts woven into this challenge to seek a deep, personal relationship with our Heavenly Father. Look forward to following the Lord’s leading in my own “Odyssey” and walking alongside other men as they pursue theirs.
