There is a magisterial and complex portrayal of Elizabeth I in Unicorn's Blood. Finney chooses to keep her two main characters mostly separate, a flaw in the design for me, though perhaps not to her. I've never read a more believable depiction of Tudor England. Glad I stumbled on these! The first two are incredible, the last a little over the top.
