This is an OK mail-order bride romance, but I did have a few issues with it. It gets 3 stars from me. First, it was just too short to have enough character development. I wanted more backstory on both Olivia and Robert. I had trouble liking Robert. He was so determined to stay angry at Olivia, even after he found out she thought he was dead. He should have given her a chance to explain why she married his friend so soon, rather than just assuming she "got over" him immediately. He should have given her a chance to explain why she married his friend so soon, rather than just assuming she "got over" him immediately. Olivia should have told Robert sooner that Chloe was his daughter. She was afraid to tell him, since she wasn't sure he loved her anymore -- but he had a right to know. His reaction when she finally told him, though, was absolutely awful! I didn't blame Olivia for leaving him after that. The attitudes toward women with children in this series continues to bother me. Many women with a child (even widows) are treated as if they have done something wrong. What is wrong with a widow having a child, and why does that somehow make her a bad choice for a man's wife? Maybe that was actually the way lots of people felt in the Old West, but if it was, then that is a terrible shame. This is a clean romance, with nothing but kisses. If you only want to read romances that do not include sex scenes, this one might work for you. My rating system is below. 1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it. 2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws. 3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating. 4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one. 5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.

Novel in a Novella I was a huge fan of this author's Brides for Seven Brothers series; I read every one. I'll admit that I was a little sad to see the series go, but I have been interested to read her other historical Western romances. Unfortunately, I am disappointed in this book. What it feels like to me is a novel with a story that’s been shoehorned into a very short novella. As such, the slow build of the romance and even clarity at times has been sacrificed. What it feels like to me is a novel with a story that’s been shoehorned into a very short novella. As such, the slow build of the romance and even clarity at times has been sacrificed. The hero and heroine have a deep and complex backstory, and while I never like an information dump in any book, the author still has to give enough information at the right times for everything to make sense. That didn't happen here. I felt confused by their backstory and what was happening in the present right away, and I didn't feel it got resolved quickly enough. Even when I finished the story, I didn't understand the hero's vehement reaction to the heroine at the beginning of the story. The reasons given didn't seem to be enough to warrant his massive reaction. When they decided to take their marriage physical, it seemed so abrupt after what both had been thinking not that much prior. The author actually created great characters. But I just think they needed more time to truly develop their relationship in a way that is not confusing and is more satisfying to the reader. I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review. My book blog: https://www.readingfanaticreviews.com

This was a story that grabbed my attention right from the start and had my interest right till the end. Olivia thinks Robert has died and later marries his best friend, Harry. They eventually come face to face and each of them needs to confront the misunderstandings and betrayals. Robert advertises for a mail order bride but he's not sure that's what he really wants. Olivia saw Robert's ad and told him when to expect Olive Brown. She's determined to find out why the love of her life pretended to be dead and is now advertising for a wife. He's about to be surprised by her as well as her baby. Will Robert be upset with her for marrying his friend? What really happened? Will Olivia tell Robert the truth about the baby? It wasn't what I expected exactly. Such a powerful tale. This was a heartwarming and such a powerful tale it is hard to imagine it is such a quick read. The characters were outstanding. Both Robert and Olivia had been lied to and manipulated in such a way that even when happiness was right there for them to grab it was so hard for them to take the chance. I loved this book and I highly recommend it. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

Outside forces conspired to keep Olivia and Robert apart, but she is determined to confront him for his lies while saving her daughter Chloe and herself from threatening men. I was exasperated by Robert at times for his attitude and the way he was with Chloe. It was nice to catch up with the Mason brothers and their families from the Seven Brides for Seven Brothers series.

Robert and Olivia This is a short, sweet, mail order bride love story written by Kathleen Lawless. Lives second chance is some times hard to get right. Olivia and Robert Talk about miscommunication! Robert and Olivia excelled at it. However, it was a great story of redemption and renewed love. I did have a hard time liking Robert for a good part of the story. For loving Olivia as he had in the past, he sure didn’t trust her much. But he redeemed himself in the end ❤️

Deceit and Misdirection I enjoyed this story that involved deceit and misdirection from more than one source attempting to keep two people who love each other apart. Good characters, and insight into the feelings each felt as their relationship grew. A good read.
