3.5 "oooooh baby love" stars !! When I saw this children's book on Netgalley I just had to have it. Thank you to Netgalley, the authors and Quatro Publishing group for an e-copy in exchange for my honest review. This will be released in January 2021. This picture book is aimed at 4-7 year olds to give a little background on these lovely talented ladies, their ability to reach their dreams, their friendship and their links to civil rights. I found the story to be of an average-good 3 star status and the pictures a delightful 4 star status. I am not sure how many 4-7 year olds will connect to the Supremes....perhaps with their music playing in the background. I really, really, really love the cover (yes, three times the word, more the fun because I had so much fun reading this short illustrated book on the Supremes!). I had no idea before this book that such a powerful all-girls band existed in the 1960s. The group sounds so inspirational. They didn't believe those who didn't believe in them. I love the friendship between the three main members of the group. Yes, when we women come together and uplift each other, I say, nothing can bring us down. If you're seeking a non-fiction, picture book read then this book is it! Especially if you love music, and Motown music at that! We Are the Supremes by Zoe Tucker is a delightful read all about the famous Motown band. Mary and Florence decide to start a girl group, and my gosh did they ever. Diana joins them and makes for one incredible singing group. They will rock the charts! Their history is shown throughout this book, which will go nicely if you blast a few tunes off your favourite music str If you're seeking a non-fiction, picture book read then this book is it! This is a great way to introduce music history to the young generations. Or, if you're an adult that just likes dipping into picture books, this one will fit too! The illustrations are simple and classic and the story is marvellous. This is a great little read and I highly recommend it! Why didn't I have more books like this when I was younger? A book full of emotions. It talks about the power of friendship, the strength to conquer our dreams and racism. It is one of those books that inspires us, that motivates us to follow our dreams without fear or fear. A book that demonstrates the power of friendship, as well as the power of being able to stand up after being told that we will not succeed. "We Are The Supremes" is one of those books full of claw and where the word feminism is printed on every page. No doubt I recommend this book. A A book full of emotions. I’m sure most of you are familiar with The Supremes, but many young readers have yet to learn much about America’s most successful vocal group. We Are The Supremes by Zoe Tucker is a perfect introduction, while also making for a great read for children who are already fans. Starting from Mary Wilson, Florence Ballard, and Diana Ross’s beginnings at the Brewster-Douglass public housing project in Detroit, all the way to their global success with Motown Records, We are The Supremes tells the story of the rise of this successful music group. This book is a celebration of the success of three Black women who became international superstars during a time when many record labels turned away Black artists. The hard work and determination these women showed make for a great example to encourage young readers to work hard at the things they love. I think my favorite part has to be the illustrations by Salini Perera. They are absolutely fantastic! I particularly love the all the outfits. Every illustration perfectly captures the fashion from the 50’s and 60’s. I also love that this book doesn’t shy away from some of the disagreements within the group, showing young readers that friendships often take work and encouraging them to resolve their disagreements with friends through communication. I want to thank Quarto Publishing Group for generously providing me with a digital review copy for this title. Blog | Instagram | Facebook | Goodreads | Storygraph

I previously reviewed another entry in this series; that one was about the Beatles. This time, the featured group is the Supremes. First of all, I loved the illustrations in this title. They were bright, colorful and evocative of the time when the women of the Supremes were growing up. The story of Mary, Flo and Diana is engagingly told. Readers see the evolution of this girl group from high schoolers, their time as the Primettes and their eventual fame as the Supremes. The group came together during an era of prejudice. For this black trio, gaining the attention and help of Berry Gordy made a huge difference as readers will see. They will also read some fun facts about the group like that a song by the Supremes was played when a space craft was returning to earth. This is a well told story of three girls with a dream and how they fared. It includes additional information on the group at the end of the book. I recommend it . Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher. All opinions are my own.

Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group for kindly providing me with a digital copy of this book for review. This is a book aimed at very young readers that details the career of The Supremes. It states it the blurb that the aim of the book is to show “how togetherness, respect, and friendship can make the world a better place.” This is a sentiment that I can fully get behind, and aim to emulate with my own children. I think this book is both inspiring and educational for young children and really does a good job of showing how difficult it was for a group of 3 black girls to get their start in 1960’s America. I really enjoyed the artwork and was particularly pleased to note that there were many different skin tones illustrated- I think sometimes in children’s books the skin tone is either one shade of white, black, Asian etc- it’s not always reflective of how society actually is. Really enjoyed this and would definitely recommend.

I grew up on Prince through my mom and cousin both enjoying his music. I can't wait to introduce my kids to Prince through this book, it was concise but enjoyable. I think Prince would have loved the way he is portrayed through the illustrations and story. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my digital review copy. This was a very basic introduction to The Supremes including how they formed in high school and how they got signed to MoTown Records. I was hoping for a bit more detail and information, but this would be great as a story read to younger readers (3rd grade level). The illustrations were well done and this was an overall good intro.

This is a lovely twist on a picture book biography to tell the story through the lens of friendship. The book is aimed at 4-7 year olds and perhaps not many children that age will be familiar with the real history of The Supremes (or even know the music), BUT I think that because the narrative connects the reader/listener to humanity through something we all resonate with (friendship), any child could appreciate this story without having the historical background an adult might have.
