"In the 1950s, a succession of films, dubbed 'creature features', were being made in response to people's fears of The Cold War. Most of these films, often black and white, were made quickly, and with a very low budget. In 1959, a film called 'Attack of the Giant Leeches' was released. In it, a pair of humanoid-leeches terrorize a swamp in the Florida Everglades. People were killed-completely drained of their blood-and eventually, the leeches themselves were killed, and the swamps were at peace.
