This one short read consists of many layers. This story tells of overcoming fears and anxiety, remaining true to one’s self, and the importance of ignoring assumptions. The unconditional love and understanding of a parent provides a solid base for his child to stand on. This story tells of overcoming fears and anxiety, remaining true to one’s self, and the importance of ignoring assumptions. The unconditional love and understanding of a parent provides a solid base for his child to stand on. As the new girl in town, D.J. would much rather climb back into bed than attend her first day of middle school. Making new friends is never easy. Asking those brand-new friends to try something completely different from the norm is frightening. To the ancient Greeks, mythology was used to provide answers to unanswerable questions. Mythology was also used to explain social situations. After the loss of her mother, D.J. found Persephone to be the perfect Goddess to help guide her through her social fears. D.J. was able to use the trials experienced by Persephone to navigate through her own insecurities. As humans, we yearn to grow and expand our horizons. The difficult part, however, is accomplishing this without closing the door on an important part of your being. Through their talks, D.J. found the courage to power through her fears to remain true to herself. Another pitfall of being the new kid is becoming the recipient of everyone’s well-meaning but misguided opinions. You never know what you’ll miss out on if you believe a teacher is unapproachable or a fellow student is singularly focused. View others with an open mind. Decide for yourself if you want to interact with them or not. I thoroughly enjoyed learning the various lessons expressed through the imaginings of the author. I look forward to reading her future work.

This is such a heartwarming story about a girl starting middle school in a new town, new school and without her mom. The book is well-written and to know it was written by a ten-year-old is mind-blowing. The messages are powerful in this book. 'Be yourself no matter what' is a strong message. My hat is off to the young author!

D.J has recently transferred schools and is very nervous about her first day at the new school. She meets May, a bubbly girl in her bus, and instantly feels a sense of security with her. She then meets Payton and Lexi who will later become her friends for life! As the story goes on, Persephone The Goddess of spring visits D.J and they both instantly bond as they share their common love for gardening. They talk about their life and how D.J picked up her love for gardening from her mom. D.J is sad to hear about the story of Persephone and how Hades tricked her into staying in the underworld where no plants grow. Although D.J had made friends on her first day of school, she is nervous and feels like she doesn't belong with them. Mainly because of the video games that the girls love but D.J has no interest in. She is scared to express what she really feels and thus is made to play games with the girls. So, one day Persephone and D.J make a promise that each one will stand up for themselves. And D.J overcomes her anxiety and fears and finally is able to communicate with her friends and also the cute guy Hudson she had a crush on! And Persephone on the other hand convinces Hades to let her plant the house plants that required less sunlight! This is a pretty neat and straightforward story especially when it's from an eleven-year-old. The story was short as apparently, it is a part of the series. This was a good read and I liked it mainly because it had the greek mythology stuff which I love.

These novels often portray real life implications through anecdotes, and as such makes it easier for us to understand the complex aspects of life. Moreover, reading these novels at regular intervals can actually help the reader to develop a positive outlook towards life, which eventually proves beneficial for good character development. Daisy, Bold & Beautiful by Ellie Collins is a well-crafted contemporary coming of age novel. The story had every element a good story should have. A solid and captivating plot, attention to detail, but best of all fleshed out, well-written and well-rounded character development. There’s plenty of imagery in the writing style that makes you feel like you are right there in the story, and that’s something I really look for in a good book. The book description itself gives a sneak preview: ‘D.J. and her dad moved far from the small town and only home she ever knew. Now she’s starting middle school in the city with kids she’s never met. She tries to make friends, but they all appear to be slaves to screen time. D.J. just likes to garden, nurturing plants, watching them grow and thrive. D.J. really needs some ideas, or she might never find her own place in a complicated world.’ Now, if that’s not enough to get your curiosity juices flowing, I don’t know what will. But if you want to find out what happens, you’ll just have to turn the pages for yourself! However, I will say it was well worth the read. It’s always a pleasure reading a debut novelist. But what makes this even more exceptional, is that it was written by a young author who was turning eleven and just beginning sixth grade! Captivating and commendable, this work had me immersed from the beginning. It’s a unique and whimsical fiction interwoven with true-life teenage drama. The story flowed from scene to scene with ease, and the author shows exceptional ability when it comes to storytelling. There are plenty of witty and fanciful moments in this page turner that will take the reader on a truly enchanting and fascinating journey! It’s one of those books that come along occasionally that makes you want to read it non-stop until you get to the end. I’m giving nothing further away here. And this, I hope, will only add to the mystery and enjoyment for the reader. If this book is anything to go by, I’ll certainly be looking forward to reading more from Ellie Collins in the future. Not because it’s my particular type of genre, but because young talent should always be encouraged. I would have no hesitation in recommending this book. It also has a distinctly cinematic feel to it and I could easily see it being adapted to the Silver Screen. Perhaps food for thought for Miss Collins? A well-deserved five stars from me.

This book is not only good for mid-school age but also suitable for older ones, even an adult. I strongly recommend it to anyone who wants to have a good read and find a dose of fantasy and inspiration.

I really wasn’t expecting to like this book as much as I did! “Daisy” was a sweet and charming book to read! It’s always tough being the new kid in school, and the author has written DJ’s story in a very positive manner. She shows DJ’s vulnerable side by highlighting how she tries to adjust making friends than being socially awkward. I actually enjoyed the fantasy element where DJ meets Persephone for help. I’m sure the pure history buffs of Greek mythology might roll their eyes on how Hades is mentioned, but it was hilarious thinking of the Greed Gods as teenagers. My favorite character in the story is May. This girl is so upbeat and positive in life that she would make anyone comfortable to be her friend. I also liked Lexi’s trivia knowledge randomly mentioned. I was expecting someone like Payton to be more negative and hostile towards DJ. It would have been interesting to see a negative character in the book and see how DJ deals with her. Ellie Collins has wonderful job in writing this novel! Wait a minute, the author is just a teenager? Holy cow, that is amazing! When I was reading this book, I thought it was written by a 20 or 30 year old professional! I can definitely see Ellie Collins going a long way, and cannot wait to read her future releases! Her style of writing is so smooth and simple, and the plot is easy to understand and follow. I would love to see her try another genre such as a more mature young adult theme. The primary reason I didn’t give this a 5 star rating was because of the cover. Firstly, who is that supposed to be in the cover? I suspect it is Persephone as she looks mature based on her stature. Why didn’t they just put an illustration of DJ with her friends, as she is the main protagonist? Secondly, if it is Persephone’s garden, it is supposed to look lush and vibrant. Instead the cover looks dull, and so does the character. It’s such a shame because the cover doesn’t do justice to the lovely story. Had I not received this for a review, I don’t think I would have picked it up based on the cover. It makes the book seem like this is a book for preschoolers. Overall, this is a sweet and light-hearted middle grade book to read and I rate it 4/5 stars.

A wonderful story about DJ (Daisy) starting at a new school, moving into a new home, and facing the challenge of making new friends. I loved how Ms.Collins brought in the mythological character, Persephone. Very creative how plants, gardening, mythology, friends, and games were woven together. Well-written and edited. I might be far older than a teenager, but I sat down and kept turning the pages.

I loved the character progression between their friendship too with them growing and learning to adapt in their interests and really getting to know each other better. Persephone was such an interesting character and I loved how she was written in so creatively. Anytime DJ fell asleep with a Greek book open she got taken into a beautiful garden where they both helped each other with their struggles and enjoyed the beautiful garden they were in together. I am so incredibly impressed by this story, it was so creative, I felt so many emotions whilst reading and felt like I was right there with the characters. All the characters were incredibly likeable, it was paced perfectly, the story was engaging and enjoyable to read. Can I also note this was written by an eleven year old. That is utterly impressive, she has such a mature way of writing, knows how to plot and create a fantastic and engaging world. She is so incredibly talented and I hope she never gives up writing she has been blessed with a gift and I’d hope she’ll always continue making these wonderful worlds. Now I really want to read the next two books in this series and this one was so incredibly good that I know the next two will be aswell. Thank you so much to booktasters and Stephanie and Ellie Collins for the ebook to read and review.

What if all the cool kids at your new school invited you to join the popular clique, but their interests differed wildly from your own? What if your three new BFF's were expert gamers, talking about the latest strategies 24-7--and you didn't even own a television set? Daisy is a lovable 'tween who faces all of these challenges when she moves with her single dad to a new city, right before the beginning of her first year in middle school. Shy Daisy is immediately welcomed into the popular girls' group, but is scared to admit she'd rather be planting seeds and growing beautiful flowers than punching buttons on a complicated handset and shouting at a screen. Then the Goddess of Spring, Persephone, enters Daisy's dreams, teaching her life lessons while offering advice. The two discuss everything from asking a cute boy in Science class to the dance, to finding the courage to face your fears and develop self-confidence. Daisy Bold & Beautiful teaches young readers wonderful life lessons without ever being preachy. Kids who read this book will learn that you don't have to change who you are to fit in. That you should stand up for yourself and your beliefs, while also learning to compromise. That there's a life beyond playing video games, like enjoying the great outdoors and planting a secret garden. The then eleven-year-old author, Ellie Collins, did an amazing job of integrating these themes within a fast-paced and entertaining story.

The new friends are nice but they are all video gamers and D.J. doesn’t even own a game console. That evening, after falling asleep reading about Greek mythology, D.J. finds herself in a beautiful garden chatting with Persephone. The Greek goddess offers insight into being a true friend. Can D.J. become a part of this new group at school? Will she be accepted by others at school? Death of a parent, moving, middle school, and making new friends are difficult topics. D.J. struggles to deal with all of the changes in her life. Her characterization is excellent and she is very understandable and believable. The situations are realistic and meaningful. This is a book that will be enjoyed by young readers, parents and grandparents. The author of this book was 11 when she wrote it. Fantastic! She has done a wonderful job telling a relevant story. I hope she continues her writing career and look forward to reading her next book. Well done Ellie Collins!

I believe every mother should read the book to school age children often enough that they remember the book . Its all about changes in life and things that happen to every one and how to handle these things. The book is well written, colourful and in most things touch on life. Congratulations on a book well written and hope there will be others

I received a copy of this book through BookTasters. I am providing this review voluntarily. TRIGGER WARNING: Brief mention of death of a parent Daisy, Bold and Beautiful by Ellie G. Collins was a book that had fallen into my lap completely unexpectedly. Although I was actually planning to read a totally different book, I received this one and decided to give it a try. It was definitely one of my better impulsive choices. The story seems pretty simple at first — a young girl is starting in a new school partway through sixth grade and is feeling anxious about it. I began to have doubts that this was the right story, since this sounded like a familiar story to me. But the similarities ended there. D.J. ends up going to school and meeting up with a girl who is friendly right away and introduces her to some other girls. They absorb her into their social circle, and I liked the various personalities of the characters. They’re witty and smart kids. The only problem is that they like to play video games, while D.J. likes to be outside gardening. I enjoyed how this isn’t what I usually see in books: girls aren’t usually portrayed as Xbox gamers, and kids aren’t seen gardening too often. The story only got more interesting as I got further into it. Middle grade isn’t a genre that I’m particularly fond of reading, but this one was a really good story. The characters were quirky and intelligent, and I found myself chuckling out loud as I read it. It incorporated the issues I recall from middle school (dealing with teachers, stressing over homework and tests, freaking out about making friends and talking to boys), and even worked in some elements of Greek mythology. Imagine my surprise when I finished the book and discovered the blurb about the writer. It was written by someone when they were turning 11. I was really impressed — i’ve read books written by adults that weren’t this well-written, engrossing, or humorous. I couldn’t possibly be more impressed with this book. I’d definitely suggest this one for not just middle grade readers, but adults as well.

Storytelling is difficult, and it's commendable when a middle-schooler did it with a hold and authority. At the age of stories listening, the author Ellie Collins did an exceptional job by writing on pre-teen facing issues in such a way that anyone can read and grab it easily into their minds. It's a story of DJ, a teen girl who struggles to be accepted in the new place and her fight with her social fears which can be related by many growing up children's and adults. DJ's fight for her individuality and her perspective towards all new things enough attract readers attention. It also deals with today's gaming culture in kids. The pace of the story holds the readers perfectly and Ellie Collins wrote the characters in a very interesting way that the become very familiar to you in no time.

Ellie collins's novel Daisy, bold and beautiful is a very impressive and inspirational book for young ones to withstand challenges in their lives firmly. She beautifully addresses meaningful issues of life that anyone can compare with oneself like peer pressure, how to adopt changes in life, loss of a parent, uncertainty, and fear of change and motivation to overcome, etc. Also, it is always difficult to be the new kid in school and make new friends but DJ deals with all this in a very positive ma Ellie collins's novel Daisy, bold and beautiful is a very impressive and inspirational book for young ones to withstand challenges in their lives firmly. The girl is so positive and optimistic in her life which makes the book more absorbing. Greek mythology is very nice and the Persephone part = like she is around her beautiful garden was amazing. But this book must be a little longer.
