The Written Review Those who knew him couldn't have imagined that the young troublemaker would one day grow up to be one of America's Founding Fathers... Alexander Hamilton is one the most famous Americans - he fought (and help win) the Revolutionary war! He was at the forefront of the founding of America - but he was not always that strong, confident man that history remembers. Once he was a kid (just like you!). This lovely little biography tells you all about Alexander's early life. It goes into the decisions (and adventures) that led him to the person he became - the war hero and founding father! While many people were happy for Alexander's success, others were very jealous that Alexander got so much praise. All in all, I quite liked this book. I've read quite a few Biography Books for New Readers and I always enjoy my time between their pages. Normally, I seem to gravitate to the biographies about women but I absolutely loved this one. His adventures were so exciting and the love story was so sweet. I actually learned quite a bit about him and now I really (really) want to check out some more biographies about him. As always, the illustrations are perfect - truly perfect! Such a great book, and such a fabulous series! YouTube | Blog | Instagram | Twitter | Facebook | Snapchat @miranda_reads

Very nice kids biography of Alexander Hamilton. The details of his life, accomplishments, and death are well laid out for children. If you want to read some short, educational books to your kids, this would be a good one. I received a free copy of this book from Callisto Media. My review is voluntary.

I loved how the author included jump in the think tank and the myth/fact charts within her chapters. Young readers will find this helpful for critical understanding of the text/inferencing skills and to synthesize information. The author also included a short quiz (answers supplied) and a glossary. Overall, this was a very well organized, beautifully illustrated, and educational book for this age group. It should be included in classroom libraries. An ARC was given for an honest review.

Thanks to Netgalley for an ARC of this book. I really, really liked this biography for young readers which is saying a lot because personally, I am not much of biography fan. This book was great in so many ways. The length is perfect. Not overwhelmingly long. It was especially helpful to have thought-providing questions posed throughout the chapters — thinking questions that will help children stop and ponder things like: what must life have been like when… ? There are also side sections like “Myth & Fact,” an illustrated family tree, famous quotes, and maps to remind the reader where things took place throughout Alexander Hamilton’s life. Comprehension questions are also posed as a quiz at the very end with an answer key provided. The book concludes with a glossary and bibliography of books, government websites, and historical sites that can be visited. One thing I noted during my examination of this book was that the ARC has a family tree where it indicates Alexander’s birth as 1775, so hopefully that will be corrected in the final print copy. First sentence: Alexander Hamilton was born on a small Caribbean island called Nevis. As a boy, he loved to read. He also liked to play tricks on people. Those who knew him couldn’t have imagined that the young troublemaker would one day grow up to be one of America’s Founding Fathers and help form the government. Surely Alexander never thought his face would one day be on a ten-dollar bill! Premise/plot: The Story of Alexander Hamilton is a chapter book biography for young readers. What you see is what you get, a biography written in chapter book format geared towards an elementary audience. It is packed with details that are appropriate for the audience. While the biography would include other details if intended for an older audience, I think this is a good balance all things considered. My thoughts: I definitely enjoyed this one! I don't think I had an idea of who Alexander Hamilton was when I was in elementary school. I don't think the peanut butter chewing GOT MILK commercial came out until I was in junior high. Then I became curious about Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr. But I did enjoy biographies when I was young. And I looked for two things really PICTURES and BIG PRINT. It's hard to tell font size on an e-book, but I definitely think this one would have proved just right.

This is a book about the life of one of America’s founding fathers, Alexander Hamilton. From his birth on a Caribbean island and being orphaned to coming to America, getting married, and having children, he became George Washington’s aide, a lawyer who served in the Confederation Congress, and framer of the Constitution, dying due to a duel. The final chapter includes ten multiple-choice questions and three “what if” scenarios relating to his life. ~ Why ~ I love children’s books that teach young ones, especially if they are about American’s past history. The educational story flows easily with the added drawings, charts, questions, and myth and fact sections. Plenty of facts are included that could be used for a book report. ~ Why Not ~ Some children will not like a read about a famous historical American figure from the past. Others may not care for the details of Hamilton and his son being killed in duels. The book may be hard to understand for some six-year-olds. Beginner readers may have trouble with some of the three- and four-syllable words. ~ Wish ~ Online it states the age group is for third and fourth graders but mentions six- to eight-year-olds (which may be in lower grades still), so it may be noted to be read by older children. I hope further books about famous people are being written by the author. ~ Want ~ If you are looking for a biography on Alexander Hamilton for elementary-school-age kids, this may be an educational source, but be aware it does contain illness and death. Thanks to Callisto Publisher’s Club and the author for this complimentary book that I am under no obligation to review.

So it feels very like a school book, but not in a grim way. There's definitely a moral philosophy behind the writing; like a textbook (and like me) the book is proud of American values of democracy and freedom, approves of the American Revolution and the Constitution that Hamilton helped write, and disapproves of slavery and the cruelty it encompasses. The last chapter has a quiz to see if the reader was paying attention and a bibliography. This would be a good early biography and an easy book to read for kids in their first years of reading independently. Kids like me would enjoy the quiz and thinking questions, although I suspect most kids would skip it. Alexander Hamilton--a pivotal figure in American history--was born on a small island in the Caribbean. Despite a turbulent childhood, by the time Alexander arrived in the United States as a teenager, he was already a gifted writer and speaker. He studied hard and had a keen interest in politics. He was a great proponent of freedom who opposed slavery and fought bravely in the Revolutionary War. He became an aide to General George Washington, and after the war, he helped to found the basis for America's new government. He served as Secretary of the Treasury under President Washington, and he worked to establish the new nation's first bank and currency system. Alexander accomplished much in his life, but he did not live to see his 50th birthday. Shot during a duel with his longtime political nemesis, Aaron Burr, he died the next day. His legacy lives on, and many of his ideas are still being used to this day. Throughout the book, there are "think tank" questions to prompt readers to further explore elements of Alexander's story, and a quiz is included to spur your memory of what you've read. You will also find a helpful glossary which explains terms such as "abolitionist", "colonizing", "militia", and more. Book Copy Gratis Callisto Publishers

I chose to read this book after receiving a free copy from the publisher. All opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased. Alexander Hamilton was one of our Founding Fathers. This is a nice biography on the life of Alexander Hamilton. I actually didn’t know much about his childhood. I’ve only read things about his adult life and his role in our nation. Very well written biography of Alexander Hamilton. A complete account of his life written so children understand and will be engaged. I really liked that it included his entire life from childhood to becoming one of America’s Founding Fathers. Highlights how his work changed our world today. A lot of information but easy to understand. This beginner reader offers a Glossary, timelines throughout the book, Think About prompts, Myth vs Facts boxes, and an end of book quiz. I’ve been very impressed with this “The Story of” biography series. This is the second book written by the author and her books are outstanding. Wish these were out when my kids were in school and when I ran a childcare. Great reference book and reading book.

This book has great graphics, fact checks via myths and facts and a multiple choice quiz.. it strikes me as the perfect design for today’s young students. The appeal of the interaction is a key to kids who spend much time learning and playing via technology. Since the movie of the Hamilton musical will be showing soon, this book could be great preparation to enhance enjoyment and understanding of that production for school age children. I plan to try it out on several of my grandchildren! #NetGa This book has great graphics, fact checks via myths and facts and a multiple choice quiz.. it strikes me as the perfect design for today’s young students. If you want an excellent book to introduce your children to the life of Alexander Hamilton, this is it. It is basic, but still has enough to give them a timeline of his life. Because HAMILTON, the musical, is gaining a new audience since being released on Disney+, educating kids beforehand about the man Hamilton will help them understand the musical better. And, musical aside, it's simply a high-quality kids book about a largely forgotten man who played an important role in our country's history If you want an excellent book to introduce your children to the life of Alexander Hamilton, this is it. I thought this was a fantastic and informative book. I learned a lot about Alexander Hamilton that I did not know before, and I am sure students would greatly benefit from reading this. I would like to use this in a classroom as a supplemental book when learning about the Revolutionary War or as a suggestion for students who enjoy history. I enjoyed that this book had questions throughout for students to think and reflect on and the myth or fact sections as well. Thank you Callisto Publisher's Club and Rockridge Press for this free book! The following review contains my honest opinions. This book is a good introduction to Alexander Hamilton. The chapters are very short and concise. There is a timeline that runs through the book and a quiz toward the end. My favorite feature was the "Jump in the Think Tank" segments that asked questions to enhance creative thinking. Thank you Callisto Publisher's Club and Rockridge Press for this free book! Hamilton appears on the ten-dollar bill, but today he is more known for the Lin-Manuel Miranda play. Now young readers will know what all the hoopla is all about. Platt has crafted a book just for them, highlighting the events in his life and how he influenced the United States. Biographies are a great way to learn history. This series for young readers does our youth and future a great service. This book is well written, and the illustration are spot on. The major events in Hamilton’s life – both good and bad – are accented. The chapters are short, and the words are easy to understand. New words are bolded, and a glossary explains their meaning. Upon request, the publisher, with no preset conditions, sent me a copy of the book to review.

This is a fantastic book for younger fans of Alexander Hamilton. It explains his life as well as the world he lived in on a level a younger reader can understand. There are tons of little “tidbits” to think about scattered around the book - as well as really good info graphics and timelines. I read this with my 8 year old and we both thoroughly enjoyed it.
