Chicken Caesar Salad Cups, Bacon-Wrapped Asparagus, Mediterranean Chicken Skewers, Deviled Eggs, Homemade Onion Dip...these recipes aren't exactly going to take the world by storm but they are all easy, approachable, and the kind of things most of us actually serve when we entertain. The most important reason I can't give more than three stars is the lack of photos. The ones shown are fine, not fantastic, but they are much too far and few between. I had hoped the recipes were more on the exciting side however The Easy Appetizer Cookbook had interesting takes on some standard recipes (flavored popcorn, salad cups, skewers, deviled eggs, etc. It makes a great gift for someone not used to the kitchen. The recipes are simply laid out with numbered instructions (yes!) and variation tips. Being a chart and list person, I liked 'How to Assemble a Cheese Board'. I've never thought about a cookbook club as the author describes (how perfect is that?!) and again, while not the most exciting cookbook, it was fun to see the slightly different take on appetizers that are fairly easy to make for a dinner party.

I requested a DIGITAL Advance Reader Copy of this book from #NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I was denied. I am reviewing the book anyway on Goodreads and Facebook. as it is already in our library and in heavy rotation taken out. #yourloss :-) I BOUGHT it as my job revolves around healthy food, researching food/recipes, food deserts, community kitchens (so everything about food) AND literacy/getting people to read novels instead of cereal packages. This is a great book out right in time for the holiday season - stop buying frozen appetizers from the store and make your own! The recipes are well written and appear easy to make. I’m a good baker and an okay cook, but I’m not great at getting the party started. Yes, I am talking about appetizers. I can throw some veggies and store-bought dip onto a plate. I can buy a bag of popcorn. I can cut some cheese and put it out with crackers. But that’s about the extent of my appetizer game. So I was really happy to find The Easy Appetizer Cookbook. But that’s about the extent of my appetizer game. So I was really happy to find The Easy Appetizer Cookbook. This short-but-sweet cookbook offers ideas for sweet and savory starters, for dips and snacks, and offers ideas for party planning as well. Food writer and blogger Sarah Walker Caron offers something for everyone, from light snacks to fancy bites. With tips on how to stock your pantry, how to plan for any length of party, how to serve these appetizers, and even how to pair drinks with these tasty bites, Caron has thought of everything. Her light snacks include Gourmet Parmesan-Herb Popcorn, Rosemary-Thyme Parmesan Crisps, and Roasted Vegetable Kabobs. She has a chapter on dips and spreads that entails an Avocado, Mango, and Pineapple Salsa and Sun-Dried Tomato-Garlic White Bean Dip alongside classics such as Chunky Guacamole and a Spinach Artichoke Dip. Finger foods include Crispy Oven-Roasted Party Wings and Mediterranean Marinated Chicken Skewers along with Chicken Caesar Salad Cups and a twist on everyone’s favorite, Deviled Eggs, Three Ways. Savory Plates covers slightly heartier snacks like California Turkey Burger Sliders, Sheet Pan Party Pizza, and Mini Taco Bites. Then there are the fancy bites, like Mini Quiche Lorraine, Raspberry Baked Brie on Croute, Salmon Fritters, and Crab-Stuffed Mushrooms. And finally (speaking my language here), something sweet, in the form of Double-Chocolate Brownie Bites, Cinnamon Swirl Mini Cupcakes, Chocolate Chip Mini Cheesecakes, and S’mores Tarts. These ideas can help keep the parties going for years! The Easy Appetizer Cookbook may not be the fanciest or the most comprehensive cookbook, but it’s an excellent place to start to get new and tasty ideas for holiday parties, tailgating, cocktail parties, birthdays, movie nights, any about any get-together for family and friends. And it’s small size doesn’t take up too much room on your shelf (or device). A great addition to any kitchen, and just in time for me to plan my holiday shindigs! A copy of The Easy Appetizer Cookbook was provided to me by Callisto Media, with many thanks.

I enjoy collecting recipes for specific social occasions like potluck parties or book club/knitting gatherings. I don't do actual parties so much, but if I did, and for those who do, this book is full of appealing finger foods and small bites. The book has an accessible, easy to follow format and the recipes are arranged thematically by category: light snacks, dips & spreads, finger foods, savory plates, fancy bites, and something sweet. There's also a very good introduction and planning chapter which includes suggestions for party planning and choosing recipes. For Kindle Unlimited subscribers; this title is available in the KU subscription to borrow and download for free. It's also worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links and references throughout. I've really become enamored of ebooks with interactive formats lately. I do wish the book included serving pictures for all of the recipes. I would estimate approximately 10% are accompanied by one or more pictures. The pictures which are included are appealing, clear, and illustrative. Each of the recipes include ingredients in a sidebar (measurements in US standard units), and step by step instructions as well as yields, prep/cooking time, and other notes such as dairy- or nut-free. The ingredients are mostly relatively easily sourced and should be available from any well stocked grocery or large supermarket. The cooking instructions are easy to follow and with a careful read-through, I found no glaring mistakes. The book does include a US - metric conversion table at the back of the book. Four stars. There are a lot of appealing recipes included here which should keep finger food aficionados happy for quite a long time. Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

This book came at a great time for me because this Valentine's Day I'm in charge of the appetizers. While most of the recipes are for larger groups than the three of us, the basics of each recipe are helpful whether I want to make it for less or more people than the recipes' 8 servings. I think it is interesting that each is for 8 servings but I think that shows the care that author Sarah Walker Caron put into this book. I think it is interesting that each is for 8 servings but I think that shows the care that author Sarah Walker Caron put into this book. I like that index is by major ingredient but the six chapters are by category of food -- Light Snacks, Dips & Spreads, Finger Foods, Savory Plates, Fancy Bites, and Something Sweet. While I like that the prep time and cook time are listed they may not be 100% accurate simply because of the individual cook's experience and tools. I also appreciate that unlike other books which require using specific tools or pans, this one has recommendations but not requirements. Most Rock Ridge Press cookbooks only have photos at the beginning of each chapter but this one had an additional image for what I found to be the most useful part of the book: "How to Assemble a Cheese Board" which is useful because it helps me see how different types of foods might pair up. That pairing then allows me to adjust other recipes in the book to counter my family and guests allergies and likes/dislikes. I was sent a copy of this book to review by the publisher; no other form of compensation was received for sharing my experience with it.

Thank you NetGalley and Rockridge Press for the opportunity to read and give an honest review of this book. Oh my goodness! What tasty recipes were included from savory, to fresh, and then on to sweets! I wanted to taste each and every tantalizing bite made from these recipes. Even though I have a good imagination and could picture each finished recipe, I would have loved a picture of each. That would have made this cookbook beautiful as well as especially tasty. I collect cookbooks and do not like overly involved recipes with too many ingredients. This book would fit perfectly in my collection. The food included had simple ingredients, could be made quickly, and seemed as though it would be great for a party or appetizer buffet. I plan on making several recipes from this cookbook to take to our family’s New Year’s Appetizer Potluck. I am betting they will be a hit!

The Easy Appetizer Cookbook by Sarah Walker Caron is free NetGalley ebook that I read in mid-November. There's definitely an East Coast vibe to these easy-to-prepare snacks and starters set against a light grey marble countertop backdrop to make the vivid, yet muted colors of the foods shine through. Walker Caron suggests anywhere from 3-6 appetizers per party and highlights the duality of something salty, savory, herby, or spicy paired with something creamy, citrus and sweet.

The title could not be more accurate. This book offers appetizers from fun & informal, like Chef's Salad Skewers, to fancy schmansy, like Rosemary-Garlic Whipped Ricotta Crostini with Prosciutto. All appear reasonably simply to prepare. In addition to recipes, the author offers information on planning cocktails & how to assemble a cheese board. The title could not be more accurate.
